Give me some ideas below!! What would you make?!
I would make chilli but I'd split meat with lentils .lwould make lentil currie there a supperfood!
Sprout the lentils feed to the chickens! I did that so i didn't waste food, but I do not like lentils lol
I use lentils as a meat substitute to make meals stretch further. Look up some recipes for lentil burgers. You can also add cooked lentils to turkey meat or ground beef when making tacos like refried beans.
Yep use lentils to bulk meals better for you than other fillers
Beans and rice
Good evening my beautiful friend ❤
Lentil soup with ham and cabbage is so good!
You should keep a lot of these items on your counter so you don’t forget about using them
Yep I just did a video of this I put the items I my bench that had to be used it makes you use them quickly
Lentils can be used in cold salads. Mixed pasta can be thrown into soups. Flour/baking mix can be used to make dumplings on top of soup. Rice can be used for breakfast or rice pudding.❤
For the lentils. I soak overnight, otherwise never gets done. Add water and lentils and simmer til soft but not falling apart. Add water if needed. Add salt and pepper EVOO while cooking. Last 30 mins add can of rotel, and sauted garlic, onions, and tri colored peppers. For less spice, do the tomatoes with basil, garlic added. Eat with or without bread or rice. I do diced tomatoes. This is for half pound. I have done the entire pound with one can. Freeze leftovers. Reheats well
Hey there my friend and family hope you’re family is doing well
I have a stand up freezer about half the size of a refrigerator. I make a list of what's inside and tape it on the front. It makes it easier for me.
Great tip!
I watch Laura Pants. She cooks lentils with spices. Then she purees them and mixes with sausage and hamburger meat to add protein and stretch it.
Her videos are fantastic
You need to get storage containers and put all the same items into them all the rice into one, oatmeal etc. I did to my pantry and man the space I got back. Stuffed peppers and oatmeal cookies. If you make banana bread add oatmeal to it. I do a rice stuffing with chicken or sausage in it. Always was a hit with kids and friends.
Edit.. the lentils you can make hummus with or sprout then for chickens.. beans you can make homemade refried beans and vacuum seal them for future use in burritos and such. Saves a ton of space doing that..
Edit again .. I had to come back the oatmeal you can make granola bars at home, they're so easy to do. Mix granola with dry fruit bits of chicken like raisins or craisins and nuts of choice like some of those peanuts you got in the big tin and chocolate chips and honey bake for a bit and cut them into bite size pieces and store away in a container..
Thank you for keeping it real!! Can those dried beans so they are ready to use! It’s a simple canning project and it uses your empty pantry challenge jars. You will thank yourself later. Throw them on a green salad for extra protein and my grandkids LOVE refried beans!! Good luck and great job!
That is so true! I'll can some up this week! Think I can mix and match beans and can 4 different types in one jar?
@@mamabairds I don’t see why not!!
Madras lentils is a great use for lentils, and oh so tasty! If I can, I'll link my fave recipe.
Please do!
With a mixture of beans, you could make chuckwagon beans and can the leftovers.
I ended up with an entire case of lentils from a local mobile food pantry 🤭. My chickens love sprouted beans. I enjoyed your video.
I hear a lot of people are getting cases of lentils for their chickens! Haha. I started sprouting them for mine, and they love it! Thanks for the suggestion!
Great Job! I have a horrible habit of throwing "stuff" in one of my drawers....you have inspired me to clean it out!
I'm not happy with you right now... making me want to work! 😂❤... I hope you know I'm kidding.
Wishing everyone a happy day.
Oh I love lentils and rice
Maybe try some veggie patties.
Banana bread with almond Flour.
Energy Balls with almond flour and oatmeal, Peanut butter etc.
Steal Cut oat in the crock pot.
Overnight oats.
Great idea to sprout the lentils for you chickies! I bet they will love them
I think so too!
Make chicken lentil soup with the lentils. We love it. It was my youngest sons favorite meal for awhile there. He still loves it.
Lentil soup: chop and saute an onion in evoo. Crush and cook a clove or 2 of garlic. Add tomato paste, chicken broth. Bring to a boil, add 1lb of lentils. Lower heat to simmer. In about 30 min, add 1/2 lb cooked thin spaghetti, any seasoning you like. Yummy. Freezes well.
I use bread crumbs for meatballs , meatloaf, parmasean chicken , maybe u could do ur own shake an bake . For the beans id say u could can em since u have a canner an then use as neeed for recipes. Rice can also be used in meatballs, meatloaf ,cabbage rolls /unstuffed cabbage roll , stuffed peppers/ unstuffed pepper casserole, casseroles , burritos, burrito bowls .
You could cook your beans and puree and freeze dry and powder for instant refried beans. You could also sprout your lentils and feed them to your chickens. 😂😂saw that you said the same 😂😂
Thank you for the ideas!
Add cooked lentils to ground meats to stretch it. Corn bread, corn cookies, pizza dough, biscuits, bread. Bean fritters, cowboy beans, baked beans, bean soup, chili. Shepard pie, potato pancakes. You have lots of options with the contents of your cupboard! Enjoy your cooking adventure 😋
No judgment here. I just did mine last weekend and it was in the same shape. But hey at least we know what we have and what needs to be used up first.
That's right!
You should get containers as you budget permits and get rid of those bags. It will help with organizing.
one problem with food pantry items is getting stuff you think you will use and never do. my local grocery store has a book shelf in the foyer of the store that people can donate non perishable food items so once a month i go through my pantry and if i have stuff i am not going to use i donate it to that shelf.
Yep and you can always donate back to the food bank or pop it on Facebook market place and gift it to someone in need
I will never judge you, i have
been saying i will do my pantry. I will be doing mines tomorrow
Thank you my friend!
Oatmeal cookies, homemade breads, beans and rice, chicken and rice casserole, and soups for lentils and barley.
Citygirl homestead made lentils sloppy joes. She said the were awesome. I cook mine with onion and garlic and eat them as a side. Or put in soups for protein. I see a lot of baking in store for you.
cook lentils and add to dishes that use ground hamburger to make the meat stretch. I added to sloppy joe and spaghetti recently, and the family didnt even notice!
Thanks for the tip!
make goulosh with those noodles!
Oh yum! Good idea!
You could just cook the dates till soft and make scones out of them. Yummy
Great idea!!
That was fun!! My pantry looks the same!!!! Can’t wait to see what you cook with the extras!!!!! 😀
Yay! Thank you!
I also have many lentils and I don't really know what to do with them 😂😂
cook up all your rice in the instant pot and freeze in 2 cup portions
how do you keep bugs out of rice and flour
Mama, I have a ton of lentils that I don't know what to do with as well!! I just googled easy lentil recipes - I might try one or two of these recipes
please let me know if you like them! I am going to do a video on lentil recipes, so I'm researching now!
Sprout your lentils for your. It's excellent for your chickens during the winter gives them some greens and protein
#replay sorry I haven't been on. I tore the muscle from my knee to the top of my thigh. I've been in so much pain I couldn't think.. Glad to be back with you little mama.
Welcome back!
Hello Carolina-Caputo flour is renowned for making Neapolitan pizza dough
Lentals and barley make for good homemade dog food. Make in a crock pot with a meat add veggies like pumpkin, carrots and yams. I can't remember the recipe but google homemade dog food recipes
That's a great idea! I wouldn't have thought of that.
Hi!! Those lentils and pearl barley are treasures!!!
Lentil soups are so yummy!!! Just use them as you would any other bean. You don’t even need to precook them. You can just add them to your soups or stews halfway through as you are prepping your pot.
Lentils are so yummy with ham, like a red bean and ham recipe.
You can also use them in cold salads. Google them in natural food cold salad recipes. Yumm!!
You got some really solid ingredients in your cupboard!!
Yes I agree and lentils are high in protein
Use the Almond flour to make Almond Pastry Cream. It is very simple to make in a food processor. Roll out pie dough or puff pastry in a dish or on a tray, spread with cream and then any jam (we are looking for about a quarter inch or so of each) and then bake. It is a delicious easy treat. Leftover cream will last in the fridge or freezer very well. If you have croissants to use up, slice in half, slather with cream, slather the top, sprinkle sliced almonds, and bake until golden brown. Very decadent.
Wow! Thank you for sharing that! I'll have to give it a try!
Im with you on this challenge ❤❤❤❤ tnk u
The Caputo flour is one of my faves. I have a hard time with gluten and European flour hasn’t given me any trouble.
Lentil soup is so delicious. I also use lentils as a meat substitute- I’ll make a lentil “meat”loaf, or lentil tacos with taco seasoning, lentil salad with arugula and shallots.
I think I am a minimalist because this was hard to watch for me. I would’ve thrown out 90% of that. I’d know I’d never use it! ❤ 😆
I be it really feels that way to you now. After having them home all those years. But there are times children need to leave the nest. Yours is going to school. Mine was when my eldest daughter got married and left home. Yes l still had 4 at home but still didn't seem the same without her there with us. As each one left in time it still wasn't any easier.
That's an impressive pantry! Not done with he video yet..just the first shelf, lol.
Good job! I would love to see how the sprouted lentils turn out. I would can some of the beans so you will have easy, fast meals. Lentil soup is yummy, you should try making it.
If you watch weeping willow homestead her food pantry hauls show how she sprouts them for her chickens. I believe her current food pantry hauls from this year she puts that in there
Lentils can be added to soups and chilis, or made into its own soup similiar to split pea
Thank you for letting me know!
make Dahl with the lentils . it is delicious
Lentil Soup! Delish!
Great idea!
The lentils we get them at food banks here too, I use them in soup like the Italian wedding soup it’s good too! ❤ or you can spout them to your chickens or use in with meat, to use less meat they say like taco or spaghetti you can’t tell ❤️great video !
Thank you!!
You can freeze dry cooked rice for a quick add to tacos, meatloaf, meatballs, etc. I've never seen so many lentils! 😂 make biscuits from self rising flour. Can dried beans, and you can plant them in your garden this spring. You are brave. I have closets that even I'm afraid to open! 😊
You can plant the dried beans, not cooked. Check our Acre Homestead and her black bean harvest.
I feel that fear! One cupboard at a time is my goal! I was thinking of biscuits as well! Thank you!
Aren’t lentils, meat substitute?
They are technically beans, but some say they can replace meat....I'm not convinced! Aha
I wouldnt eat the canned chicken with the air space. I am not fussy, but cautious.
I don’t think I would eat any canned meat
Hello how are the kids doing in school how are you doing with them not there.
For the lentils, you could cook them (boil in water/broth) and when soft, add to ground beef seasoned for tacos. Great way to stretch ground beef! I overcook my lentils until they're mushy. ha
Good tip! Thank you!
Lentils are very tasty. And cook in alot shorter time then pinto beans.
Soak dried dates in hit water for 15mins
We all have that cupboard in our house. Great video. Thanks for Sharing .
Thanks for watching!
Carolina, my family keeps saying there's to much in my freezer so I pull stuff out of there and my pantry and it's chicken potpie for dinner tonight and no food store this week.
I absolutely love your videos. If you like a lot of cumin and crispy fried onions.....you can try lentils and rice with crispy onions. I tend to cheat with French's onions but it is heavenly. You would absolutely never miss the meat with it. Even the pickiest of eaters in my family LOVES it (and they won't touch beans from a mile away).
I have not tried it but I saw a recipe for air fried chickpeas
1 cup sugar-1cup self rising flour-1 cup milk stir together and por into 9 by 13 baking pan put a can of frit or frozen Frozen fruit on top and bake at 375 till brown.makes its own crust and very good. I put sugar in the frozen 🍑
I made lentil sloppy joes girl they were amazing bet the kids would even like it
Lentils are my least favorite bean after garbanzo but my mom came over recently and made the most delicious lentil soup. She added some veggies like mushroom, carrot, onion, and kale. She added two cans of evaporated milk and an entire stick of butter. It was fattening but the best lentil soup I’ve ever had. Give it a try if you struggle to use up your lentils. For garbanzo beans I like to make a mock tuna salad. I roughly mash the beans (not totally smashed) mix in Mayo and finely diced onion, pickle, and celery. Spread on sandwiches like you would with tuna salad. Quinoa is one I really struggle using and don’t have any good ideas for that.
That is the first time I have heard of that suggestion for lentils!! Thank you for sharing!
Monkey butter? What is in that? I keep nuts in the freezer. Happy Saturday (its my favorite day of the week)❤
Throw lentals in all your soups to add extra protein. They do not have much flavor so they blend well
I use to make taco lentils. I would cook them and add taco seasoning. My daughter didn't eat meat but she would eat those on either corn or flour tortillas with all the taco fixings. The lentils looked kinda like hamburger meat.
Sloppy Joes using lentils instead of meats!!
That’s more food than I have in all of my home.
Hopefully, not for a family of 5! You should have at least 3 months' worth of food stocked up.
With all the flours I would make pie crust, pizza crust, cookie dough and put them in the freezer as ready to use. Also the cookie dough rolled into individual balls allows you to bring out enough for a quick treat. Fresh peeled garlic process down make garlic balls, and freeze then you can pull them out individually to add to what you are cooking. I absolutely love your channel and your kids are adorable
Thank you for making it real.
You need to do what I am doing at the moment and no more food bank and use what you have 😂
What I have been doing is picking out something that needs to be used and looking for a recipe that will give me idea for a meal. I have been doing some baking to use up my stash of baking ingredients. It is too easy to forget what you have.
Sprout those lentils and feed to your chickens!!!
You can sprout 1 jar 4 days old, 1 jar 3 days old, 1 jar 2 days old, 1 jar 1 day old. Give you Chickens 4 day old sprouted Lentils. And start another new jar. One half cup of Lentils make 4 cups of sprouted Lentils.
Make red beans and rice with smoked sausage! To use up flour make cookie dough, pie crust, and freeze...pull out when needed
Hint for lentils. You can substitute them for meat. Add them into recipes where you use beef to bulk out a recipe.
Lentil soup
Use the lentils and rice to make mujaddara. So very good!
Good morning beautiful 😉 that is one packed cupboard!! It was time to go through there and discard of all of the open things... Thanks for sharing this video Carolina 👍😁
The two pack of flour I have bought that to make pizza dough.. you can add the lentils to a pot of chilli no one will know
Great thinking! Thank you!
Love your videos. Dont always comment. Blessings
Thank you for your support!!
you should consolidate things in jars so you can see what you got. also it will give you more room
Good thinking! Thank you!
My favourite way to use lentils is in lentil sloppy Joe's. The texture is very similar to ground beef and tastes amazing. Another recipe my daughter really likes is Mujadara, which is lentils, brown rice, and crispy fried rice. Both are easy to make and super cheap!
Beans and pasta together can make minestrone soup, brown rice can be used to make dirty rice.. lentils added to hamburger and pasta sauce makes a great protein packed sauce base for spaghetti or lasagna or pasta
I found out I cannot eat lentils. Had to give my stock pile of them away.
However, I discovered I love quinoa.
You could par cook a pot of lentils and freeze them in Ziploc bags to add to meat soups and sauces like spaghetti sauce or taco meat hamburgers meatloaf. . . Having it cooked and ready would make it more convenient to use in the moment.
Good idea. Mixed with taco meat would be a very healthy way to stretch the meat budget.
great ideas
Girl throw that chicken away☹️🍗, i’m not even trying to be rude it just doesn’t seem safe 😂
The one with the air space? It just cooked down as it canned..I'm going to look into it more. You aren't the first to mention throwing it away, so I'll be careful!! Thanks for commenting!!
Thanks for sharing. Lots to use up.
Love 💕 and Hugs. 💙💙💙
make a big pot of soup to use the beans and pasta. oatmeal cookies, lentil soup. rice pudding, corn bread. chilli
Great ideas!
great and simple ideas
It's always good to be stocked in back up food, for the cold months!! Yep I need to clean out my pantry cupboards to, thanks for the motivation .. 🍓🫐🥝🍅🥥
Hi Carolina , love watching your videos here are some meal ideas to help you with your stock. try lentil dall, chicken pasta bake or chicken and barley soup, try rice pudding hope these ideas help Gillian from Liverpool x
Thanks for the tips!
My kids loved hamburger soup. They told me the lentils were flying saucers 😂. They called it worm soup 🙄 because the pasta I used was curly and when soaked in broth looked worm like. Oh my. Anyway, the point is rename them something they like. Lentils isn’t very interesting. I guess neither was hamburger soup. My kids had thermos’ and took hot meals in them. Just a suggestion for lunch ideas. I also made a lot of cornbread. Usually one a week. My children were feral beasts and ran wild with the other neighborhood beasts. Fun memories
Lentil soup can be tasty. I also seen people adding lentils to bulk up mince meat for likes of cottage pies or meatballs
Lentils make madri lentil copy cat recipe or walk out give them to the chickens...they will eat them.
Now that kids are in school you will find have more time to do things you kept saying l will get to one day. Your own honey do list.
Yes!! It's a long one! Haha
Supper proud of you getting this done
Love watching your videos that was a lot of stuff good for you that you cleaned it out much love from Michigan ❤️
I would use cake flour and oats, for a delish oatmeal cake!
Thanks so much!
Looks like you could can a ton of beans! At least they would be ready to use, and more likely to get used❤️
