I love how the creators of sao still kept the 'spirit' of Yuuki alive. Most anime creators would've forgotten her

same goes to yuna from the movie, there was no appearance of her in the novels, but in the anime it was a real nice surprise
That's kind of why SAO fans like Kawahara Reki (SAO and Accel World's writer) so much. A lot of inside jokes and returning references.
Even when Sachi shows up again later on in the story (no she's still dead canonically) there was good reason for it.

Whenever I see Yuuki, I can't help tearing up, the memory of her departure for the afterlife is something I will never lose for it was the first time anime made me cry
her memory in the underworld gives asuna insane strength. in asunas form here she is a goddess and with that comes insane power boost.. not only did she defeat PoH she completely destroyed him. the only reason PoH did not die there and stay dead was because of all the souls the cleaver absorbed and brought him back to life. Asuna very much won this fight with yuuki because together there attack is the most powerful in all of the underworld.
Right? Her death was so moving.
Mothers Rosario is my favorite ultimate attack in all of fiction. It represents more than some 11 hit combo.
It represents a person. It represents all she wanted to be and all she was.
And when Asuna uses it, it feels like, for the briefest of moments... that person is right there with everybody, giving nothing less than her all.
Well said, and probably the reason why both times Asuna has used Mother's Rosario on screen, they had Yuuki there right beside her in spirit.

@BroFist they work together but A-1 pictures has always animated SAO well since the first seasons, they only evolved the level.

Yuuki wasn't in the show for long but her story got into everyone who loves this show and I'm glad she's never been forgotten

Seriously though, just look at those GOD TIER animations! It's like the best animation I've seen in anime... I just don't get why SAO gets so much hate ;(
GGO and ALO arcs are pretty meh and overall the harem stuff around kirito gets old pretty fast. What's more, not showing many monologues of Kirito as in the novel (I've only read the first 2 volumes) makes him look stupidly edgy for no reason sometimes.
Given that, I still think story and concept are pretty good, but the delivery (expecially in the anime) gets a little iffy way too often.
I still like the series despite recognizing some issues, I don't know why more people cannot stay in the middle and just love or hate it

@@giuseppepiuma1965 i think the ggo arc was good, i was happy that sinon had a good back story and not the classic "my parents died" ALO arc i hated it, the fights were good, but the over all story i didnt like, excalabur arc, felt like a filler to me, but it wasnt bad, mother rosario was perfect, alicization arc, "same arc of eugeo death" was a master piece, the war arc, was also extremely good, and finally the aincrad arc, i wouldnt say its the best since i thing season 3 alicization arc is better, but sao is a really good arc

I seriously hated with all my heart that Asuna didnt beat this guy, she deserved this victory, Kirito takes the main guy down and all done… 🙄
To be far in the LN it is stated she defeated him as well, she even killed him literally, but matter chopper resurrected him TEMPORARY, still Asuna won the fight and saved Kirito for the second time from Vassago in the same arc…,while protecting everyone at the same time.
Without Asuna they would have been dead, Kirito basically just turned him into a free he did the last thing even thanks to Eugeo since his fluclight (Kirito), was still weak at his waking, Asuna did like 80% of the job for Vassago’s total defeat.
Also if you read progressive and pay attention to Vassago’s conversation with Asuna, Kitito deserved the last stand against him.
For Substilizer, Kirito defeated him thanks to *everyone* , underworld’s people, SAO and ALO’s friends/nakamas , the 3 goddess and Eugeo, (a part of his fluclight was still there as his memories where in the blue rose sword), if Eugeo didn’t take the land Kirito would have lose.
Technically he did die but he doesn’t stay dead, that’s why he was turned into a tree

Technically Kirito bearing Vassago wouldn't have been enough either. It was Kirito loading his swords data into Vassago which really ended the fight, and only Kirito was able to do this.
I always replay 1:43, the way she lands is so cool, animation in this scene was top notch 👌 👏 👍

Kirito and Asuna is so parallel, like how they have someone very special to them, how they wake up in the hospital, how they protect each other, how Kirito save Asuna and how Asuna save Kirito. Also at the end SAO theme always came to the Kirito Asuna relationships.
Kirito and Asuna will never forget Eugeo and Yuki because they are like the inseparable part of their memory.

Even though I still prefer this scene in the light novel due to the fact that Asuna fights with numerous injuries and with a blade stuck in her chest, this scene in the anime maintains the feeling very well. Asuna is amazing and I get emotional every time Yuuki appears next to her. ♥
Yes i got more chill for the whole fight in the LN, not only for what you said, but also Asuna didn’t had angel wings so it was even more badass and impressive, and in the LN she had several badass, cool and very important moments that were not adapted, when you are aware of all she did this feel greater…but especially the WAY Reki described Asuna destroying him damn ; « PoH could not do anything against this attack, which seemed like a purple meteor that pierced him from all sides, and collapsed far away on the ground ». This is one of my absolute fav lines in the whole series.
Reki said the wings are Asuna’s will representation and i think it was a good idea, especially with the sakuga animation she got but the LN still is better.
I love seeing everyone cheer her on, it’s so wholesome:)

Notice how everytime Asuna has used Mother's Rosario, Yuuki has always been there and even gives Asuna a "push" to start the skill. It's beautiful everytime
She only ever used it twice. In Ordinal Scale and here. So, it's really memorable to the last detail.
I wonder if to be able to use that sword skill you need to be above a certain speed stat. If SAO had a special perk for being the fastest attacker Asuna would have had it.

Other than the fact that Yuuki made an appearance (which I'll always love seeing) theres something even more beautiful in that since Asuna is using the Stacia account and not her ALO account (which is the account that she received Mothers Rosario on), she actually does not have access to Mothers Rosario as its an Original Sword Skill. She was able to use it though Incarnation, it was her memory of Yuuki manifested by the Incarnate system as a skill that allowed her to use that skill.

As someone who loves to draw feather wings to the details of each feathers... this Scene somehow filled me with something I dont even know. Not only Yuuki show up, PoH got beaten up(even tho he end up died in Kirito's hand), the amount of details on the wings makes me happy.

Go back and watch the very first episode of SAO and you will think the animation is awful because of how much they improved it over the course of the series. This scene alone and so many others in WOTU are absolutely God tier
For 2013 that was the God tier animation and People praised SAO animation a lot ever since its broadcasting begins.

No matter what, in this fight Asuna should have defeated him by destroying his cleaver as well so that he wouldn't come back to life, since Kirito's awakening was for the next villain with another situation without wasting the heroic effort of this Beautiful Valkyrie Asuna, in my opinion this is one of the reasons why this anime is so hated despite being loved too
PD: it reminded me a bit of valkyrie profile (nibelung valesti) beautiful character Asuna
PoH vs Kirito had been a thing since the very beginning of the series. Also she functionally kills him, leaving him vastly weaker when Kirito fights him. It basically took Kirito, Asuna, and Eugeo to bring him down.

It's not plot armor...
He's didn't die from Asuna using Mother's Rosario because he was holding Mate Chopper. Mate Chopper could absorb life and convert it to HP. Because there was so much death around him Mate Chopper would absorb that life and keep PoH alive.
It's similar to what the Night Sky Sword can do. It can absorb "HP". Unlike Mate Chopper which absorbs the energy left when someone dies, the Night Sky Sword can absorb the energy of the people's life as it leaks from them. Kirito uses the Blue Rose Sword to make the Roses appear which will slowly cause people to lose life.
