The only thing creeps out about the movie is when in the ending part of the film, the world resets to Year: 0001
That Dome would've collapsed inwards due to it's structural problems. It wouldn't stay and roll like that. At this point it's being held by chains of steel.

I am not an openly religious person but my question is... what were they going to pray for? If it's the end of the world and they weren't going to survive the catastrophe...

Maybe it’s because humans only recognize God’s existence when they find themselves in a life or death situation, most people would stop being atheists or irreligious seculars when death looms over them, it’s all because of the simple fact that belief in God or a Creator of our universe is part of our natural disposition, it’s intrinsic in each one of us, when we find ourselves in a desperate situation, our intuitions that an Almighty God exists come out and so we start to fervently pray towards the heavens for salvation and deliverance. You know what they say: “they are no atheists in a foxhole”. Hope this helps.
