      Dude this is the best thing I have ever witness I never thought I would see pure internet stupidity to the point where it made me laugh like a mad man.
      Like this is so silly you can't really be mad at it,more or less laugh at the absurdist nature of it all in terms of buzzfeeds Low quality.
      It basically as low quality to the point its funny as Very low level Creepypasta thats just Comes across as a weird teens angsty story rather then legitment horror.

    Adam Ellis is a great cartoonist. Buzzfeed forced him to pump out shitty comics that he ended up just putting together like a puzzle bc he pre-drew the assets to meet the impossible deadlines. He’s truly amazing and it makes me mad that they’re probably just using his idea because they technically own it, just like they do the concept of “unsolved” (that’s why Shane and Ryan can’t even say the word “unsolved” on mystery files)

      The worst thing is that isn’t even the first time Adam’s content has been taken advantage of, when I was still following him it came out that a popular Sundance movie stole from one of Adam’s horror comics verbatim. Obviously this situation is different because Dear David is under Buzzfeed not Adam himself, but I still feel bad for the poor guy, he can’t seem to catch a break. Hopefully he’s still doing great despite all of this, I’m really happy to see artists becoming extremely successful despite the catastrophic odds against them

    Adam Ellis, the artist who originally made the Dear David ARG (which I personally think is really cool and completely different from this mess) was actually a comic artist at buzzfeed when he started the ARG. One of his Buzzfeed comics is the one featured in this trailer, since they still own that IP, but I don’t know how involved he is with the project. I follow him on Instagram since he’s got some good comics here and there, but he hasn’t posted anything about this movie as far as I can tell. Buzzfeed announced back in 2018 that they wanted to make a movie out of the story, but that was so long ago and I know that any relationship Adam had with Buzzfeed has definitely soured since then

    • @nightmarefanatic1819
      @nightmarefanatic1819 10 місяців тому +17

      The problem is an ARG is fun because of the interactivity and the versimillitude granted by having them posted in the real world web. Making a cinematically shot film out of it robs an ARG of what made it so special in the first place.
      And the one time a horror movie DID try to pull an interactive internet stunt, it sucked. Yeah, I'm talking about you The Devil Inside.

    Dear David was actually a decent unfiction story, I'm kinda disappointed that the film is being made by Buzzfeed but in all honesty, I'm not sure why I expected otherwise
    Edit: from Charlie's description, it sounds like they changed the story drastically. For one, David wasn't a twitter bot, he was a ghost who would answer any question as long as you started with "Dear David". The catch is, you're limited to two questions a night otherwise David becomes upset, which was the entire base for the original story. I'd def recommend checking the original unfiction series before watching this garbage anyday

After seeing the trailer I'm a bit disappointed in how the story seems to have been changed, and how David looks compared to the photos in the original story. It scared the shit out of me as a kid so I'm a little sad to see what happened to it but as long as they had fun making it then whatever.

    i remember i was a big fan of the twitter thread during my arg phase and thinking of how we never really got a ending to it.. but now we have a movie that looks terrible so i think i’m content with no ending now

    The only way it could sell a few tickets would be to see how a Twitter thread to a movie would look like

    If they’re making a horror film about a Twitter thread, they should make a horror film about Charlie scaring his audience with his spooky jumpscares

    I actually remember the Dear David story as a kid. It was a decent story for something on Twitter, so seeing it become a movie by BuzzFeed is both sad but interesting as well. Most likely not watching it and forgetting about it a second time, and it’s not even accurate to the Dear David story.

    What sucks is Adam Ellis, the original creator of this story has no involvement. Because if he did, it mightve actually came out alright considering his other horror content like his recent (like past 3 years) of horror comics are genuinely well made and nuanced. Honestly I'd prefer half of those as a film tbh.
