Probably would have died, considering they would have been overwhelmed and without knowledge of where everything is.
I mean... we had a goddamn ODST that survived through a Gravemind-infested High Charity, that passed away as himself, letting the Master Chief use his flamethrower when he raided the holy city to rescue Cortana.
Even before being made a Spartan, Buck was one of the best troopers the UNSC had. He is excellent at improvising, he is a spectacular soldier, he is careful with those under his command, so even if the timeline went as normal and it was still the Master Chief who assassinated the High Prophet of Regret, Buck would have found a way out of Regret's ship if he turned out to be outnumbered.
Rookie is no pushover.
I dunno man we have examples of lesser known Marines and ODSTs pulling off some insane shit from a Marine who before Chief went through the Libary and died from all the wounds he sustained but went down fighting hordes of Flood before Chief to an unnamed ODST surviving everything in High Charity long enough that his body wasn't consumed or taken and we can only assume they survived long enough to it crashing on the Ark.
The UNSC had some degree of schematics for Covenant carriers by this point in time. Certainly enough detailed information to have the basic layout of the ships interior "floor plan".
Although victory would have been unlikely, Alpha Nine still could have pulled off the original mission
More content with ODSTs is always a good thing. Let's see if they all make it to Installation 05 and regroup with In Amber Clad's crew, maybe even Chief himself.
The one thing in my opinion Bungie missed out on. Was capturing the Great Schism from the "regular troops" perspective.
Instead of walking across a hallway or the underside of a bridge and getting answer
"That's classified."
I feel like that’s exactly what would happen to a normal soldier. They’d wonder what happened and anyone in the know would tell them nothing.

Makes you wonder why the UNSC didn't make weaponized drop pods as projectiles against Covenant Ships once their shields are down.
Because the UNSC would never get their shields down. Anytime the covenant engaged humanity in space, humans would need a 3:1 advantage to even stand a chance. Every space battle was either a catastrophe, pyrrhic victory, or a surprise attack. Either you're going to lose in a general engagement, or you're going to surprise them with like 3 or 4 simultaneous MAC strikes. No real in between where there's a battle long enough to land troops. Unless you have Keyes or Cortana flying your ship. Then you'll do fine.

I have a suggestion that’s similar to a previous one of your what ifs but it’s slightly different What if Nobel 6 went with Captain Keys and was in the Halo Original Trilogy.

They would’ve died on impact due to the ships shields and how would they get in before it jumps to slipspace
@Anklebiting if covenant alloy can take a super Mac round with barely damage what will you think a flimsy drop pod will do

@Anklebiting ua-cam.com/video/OvoYIZuFefE/v-deo.html that it’s way bigger than a drop this is a carrier not some tiny frigate this ship held a frigate in its hanger bay
The other ODSTs that dropped in the game were going to be hitting Regret's ship so I imagine there's some way to actually get in through some vehicle bays or weaker areas of the hull.
As for the slipspace jump: the lack of a briefing from Dare in this scenario means they might've dropped a minute or two earlier and managed to actually get to the ship while it was still prepping for the jump.
That would have been dope if they actually landed on the ship
