He was a soldier at heart, hated the communists and fought only against them in the service of the armies of the three countries. Is the ONLY German Waffen SS trained soldier who is buried in Arlington Cemetery.

Finland indeed was allied to Nazi Germany. It was pretty much the only option, because USA, UK etc were allied with enemy of Finland, the Soviet Union. So it was either get beaten by Soviets or ally with Germany. Finland wasn't part of the Axis (Germany, Italy and Japan)

Also good to remember that while France, UK, USA and other big allied nations condemned the soviet aggression, they did jack shit in actual help. Germany was the only option for the under equipped and under gunned small country, since they were the only ones willing to give, you know, weapons.

@@Pyllymysli Not to mention that the Uk actually declared war on Finland on December 5 ,1941, pressured by the Soviets to do so.

Given the choice of nazi germany or the soviet union, I think most any sane person at the time would choose germany.

Finland needed allies and since soviet russia was part of "allies", we had to have some.. that someone was Germany.. We asked british for help, in return, they declared war (But did send troops.. Actor who played Saruman in Lord of the Rings fought in winter war). We had no allies.. we took what we can get.. and after losing to Russia second time, Finland declared war on Germany..
Finnish concentration camps killed in percents, more than germany did.. but we weren't killing anyone.. it was mismanagement and we were killing russians.. reason why we weren't in nurnberg trials is because we had seperate peace with russia before WW2 ended.. we were absolved..
BTW, Finland is the only nation in europe that has paid their war reperations so far.

Finland was never a strong ally of the natsis. Finn just had to be "friends" with someone so they could hold back the russians that were to finns way more real of an enemy. Finland "allied" with the natsis to get back what was taken and nothing more.

There is also episode of an old TV-documentary "THE BIG PICTURE" -- "Phantom Fighters" about US Army's Tenth Special Forces Group in Europe ua-cam.com/video/HwWSwJ-2Ub8/v-deo.html where you can see quite a lot of footage about Larry Thorne as he was known in the 50's.
