my average is around 90% and i was admitted, but i was looking at a page for undergrads where this guy said he landed 60% in two of his grade 12 courses and still got accepted. just do your best! that’s all anyone can ask of you
Omg i didnt know that extracurriculars is that important i now kinda regret that i didnt apply to more extracurriculars the past year (im currently at the end of grade 10 btw)
Don't worry, if you are going into grade 11 you still have two more years to build up your extracurricular activities. Many students think that extracurricular activities are not that important but they are actually a big part of the application process. So don't lose hope and I wish the best of luck to you in the future👍👍!
@@RichardHan Do you have any recommendations for extra cerriculars? I am in gr.9 rn and I am planing on becoming a ski instructor and working for my dad (retail)
I remember watching this as a 10th grader & thinking to myself “oh hell I’m never getting in” but I acc got into all my three top choices (UofT, UBC & McGill) :> It’s honestly crazy how the times change.
Hi! Firstly, I’d like to thank you for creating this video to help out people like me and it’s greatly appreciated! I just want to ask for some advice. I’ve basically finished grade 10 and I plan on applying to UBC Sauder & UofT Rotman in the future. But I kind of realize I don’t have strong extracurriculars that could really make me stand out compared to other people. Here’s what I have: - on the basketball team - Volunteers at the school & public library - Math Peer Tutor after school - Part time job at a restaurant With these, I don’t think most of these are really business related or showcases who I am outside of school, and I was hoping if you could recommend some useful extracurriculars. I’m a bit on the introverted side but I’m open to trying out new things. I also want to say that I took summer school and did pre-cal 11 this year. I did kinda average this year with a 94% final mark... I’m wondering if this can screw up my grades section for both universities as they’re prestigious? However, my overall average for my courses are 95% this year, but I’m not sure if universities look into grade 10 grades anyways. Anyways, sorry for the long comment! I really appreciate this video as it was really helpful and has me thinking for the future! :)
First of all thank you for your kind words and great question. So overall I think your grades/extracurricular activities are looking great. I don't think your grades will cause any trouble (Your grade 11 pre-cal mark is fine) and if you want to build more of a business related extracurricular activities I would recommend you to join any case competition team you can find. As I mentioned in my video the most important thing is knowing how to create a story with all your experience so really think of how you can build a compelling story. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Bro I should've done my video interview after you post this video lol. I kind of screwed up getting nervous during the last question of video interview for engineering. Even though I am with a 94% average right now but I don't feel so confident for admission compared to before.
I am sorry to hear that man😢! However it’s okay if you messed up a little, recruiters will understand that everyone is nervous and they won’t penalize you too much for that one mistake. So don’t worry about it too much, I am sure you did well. If you have any questions please let me know and I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Hey, you just answer my comment on last video , so i want to thank you and I was really worried about my grades and studying computer science in canada is a part of a big dream of a 18 years old guy
Yes I remember you! I am so glad that my videos were able to help, don’t lose hope and keep up the great work. If there is anything else I can do to help please let me know👍👍!! I wish you the best of luck to you in the future!
Extracurriculars are closed because of this STUPID covid :/ I'm an active out of school guy and this is makes it so much harder to get accepted. I'm grade 9 rn
Just know that your video was Totally USEFUL AND HELPFUL and I hope you excel during your time at U of T. Maybe Ill see you there next year haha(I'm in grade 12)
What courses did you take in highschool (Gr11 and Gr12) and what marks you got in them?!! Also can you be specific on the program that you got into:) I am trying to research different programs and requirements so I can choose the best program for me:) Thank you:D
For sure, I am in a program called Rotman Commerce which is the business school at uoft. I would highly recommend you to watch my other video "BEST BUSINESS SCHOOL IN CANADA? | EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ROTMAN COMMERCE | U OF T" ( ua-cam.com/video/lT3CRZSnjEI/v-deo.html ) if you want to learn more about my program. For your question regarding my high school life & grades, as I mentioned in my video my average was around 97% (I would tell you all the courses I took but I can't remember all them😂😂). I hope I was able to answer your questions and I wish you all the best!
“97” *cries in trying to get the scholarship with my ass grades* Jokes aside, I’m not that bad but- but still is not enough compared to this 😭 I’m still missing senior year so I hope I get better there
what about transfer students? i really want to transfer into the management and marketing program but i have no idea what the requirements are or how the entire process works...
Hi Richard! I’m currently a grade 11 student wanting to go into the science program at ubc! I know science is a competitive program, and I’m worried my 93 average won’t be enough to get accepted, as I’m sure many other people will apply within the low 90 range as well. By taking AP, and rigorous classes, will that make me stand out in any way, or is there no point in taking these classes because they will be weighed the same as regular classes? thank you, and great video!
Great question, so your grades right now are good but it really depends on how good your grades are relative to other applicants in your year. Its also important to maintain your good mark through your grade 12 year however for now 93% average should be good for UBC. As I mentioned in my video grades aren't the only thing they look for. They look for your involvement outside and beyond school (Especially UBC). They want to know who you are outside of classes, so make sure to show them who you are in your portfolio. So I definitely do think you have a good chance (since your grades are good), make sure to be as genuine as you can be. Make your portfolio stand out from others (think back to the lego analogy in the video). I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
@@_quixote i have 9.7 gpa and all i can tell you is take notes, and always search up extra information on a topic you are, i personally always did some extra research whenever i had homework in Geography and most of them where extra facts that weren’t mentioned in books (You can somehow mentions your interests, i personally always brought up chinese characters or north korean politics and that really helped me get on a good side of my teacher and then getting good grades were easy)
Guys u dont have to have a average of 97. I was a normal student with not much exrracurriculars. I ended my grade 11 with a 92 and still managed to get into.
Hi Richard! I’m currently in grade 10, and I’m hoping to apply to UBC or other universities in Canada in the near future. I think my weakest area would be expressing myself through public speaking or even just interviews. What are some ways I can improve in this area? Thanks!
First of all it’s great to see young students planning ahead for university and great question. I think it's totally okay for a student to be unfamiliar with public speaking and doing interviews. I would suggest you to practice with your friends and family first (do mock interviews). Once you get comfortable with that try doing some presentations at school. Practice makes perfect so keep practicing. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish you the best of luck in your future!
Great question, although I am sure they change the questions every year but for me when I was applying to Rotman Commerce/Sauder they asked both basic interview questions and real life questions. So they might ask about your opinion on a certain issue in the world or they might ask you to tell them what has impacted/changed your life. They can really ask anything so it's very hard to prepare for these interviews. I hope I was able to help a little and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
You are doing a great job Richard, I've a doubt, which class grades they will consider during selection process? How they will calculate the aggregate? Can you please help me?
Great question! So they will first take a look at any of your required courses if you applied for any specific program (like engineering, rotman and life sciences). Than they will take a look at courses you took that meets U of T's general admission guide. It differs by provinces, and for me (I am from Manitoba) I had to take minimum of 40S courses (Which are specific Grade 12 courses) as my general admission. They will mostly focus on grade 12 and 11 marks and I am pretty sure they calculate the aggregate using these courses. I hope I was able to help a bit and let me know if you have any further courses. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
@@kalaivanis7042 Since both computer science and engineering are very popular programs, I would guess that the average will be fairly high. To get into any programs you first need to meet the UofT's minimum required grade however getting above the minimum required average doesn't guarantee your spot. What really matter is how well you did compared to other applicants in your year. Lets say the average for this year's applicants were high, this means you will have to do better relative to everyone who applied to your program. I hope I was able to help a bit! and let me know if you have any more questions!!
Hey bro i will be applying to uoft this year but i am lil bit confused about the process of applying so can i talk to you . If you could provide me with your email or insta id. Mine id is vishalaulakh_
Hi! I'm an international student hoping to go to UofT, and I was wondering what sort of extra curriculars most students have been involved in during high school, and what they seem to like most. Thank you!
This is a great question, so yes just like I mentioned in my video doing extracurricular activities will really show the recruiters who you are beyond grades. There are so many different clubs that students in UofT have joined in high school so I will try to summarize some of the most common ones for you. Student council, sports club, musical, year book, volunteering and some professional work experience are some of the most common extracurricular actives. However you must remember that its not about what extracurricular activities to do but how to create a story from them. They want to see what you learned from that experience, so its important to find an extracurricular activity that can bring out the best of you. Tell them what you learned, and be as genuine as you can be. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Hi Richard! Great video! I had a quick question regarding AP and IB courses; what happens if your school does not offer those types of courses? I was able to find an AP Language and Composition course in an outside institution and am studying for the exam, but I don't have access to any other rigorous courses right now. What would you suggest?
Great vid! i am interested in entering the rotman school of business, but one thing i really need to know, does pre calculus not suffice? do i really need to take AP calculus? Can i take AP Macro & Micro economics instead? because im gonna be honest, the thought of taking calculus scares me a little bit. btw i go to a SABIS school in egypt, and i really wanna make it to UoT.
Great question, however since I am a domestic student I am not too sure if I know the answer to your question. I would definitely recommend you to reach out to the university about this question. I am sorry that I couldn't answer your question but I wish you all the best!
Can u please make a vid on how you achieved the average u did? My average throughout highschool is low 80. About to start grade 12 and need 90 average. Advice and tips Please
That’s a great suggestion, I will most definitely try to make that video in the future. Thank you for your great suggestions and if you have any further suggestions/questions please let me know👍👍!
Hi Richard, thanks a lot for your videos. I would like to know whether UofT or UBC consider educational credential assessment for Foreign degrees. If yes would I have to go for some courses to get my bachelor or would I get admitted to Masters? I have a bachelor degree in Management accounting and auditing.
Thank you for your question, so since I am a domestic student pursing a bachelor's degree, my knowledge in educational credential assessment for Foreign degree is very weak. So I would like to suggest that you contact the university about this. I am very sorry I couldn't answer your question but if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
I was born in Toronto but moved to Alberta and I was hoping to apply to Uoft. Do they accept repeated courses if I'm upgrading a course or 2 and finished grade 12 already? And is there a place where I can find competitive averages for admission?
epiicxrival RBX so for your first question, University of Toronto should accept any of the high school courses that are within the Canadian curriculum. However you might also need to meet the minimum grade 12 credits needed depending on your province. U of T has a website where it shows you all the different minimum requirements for each provinces. For me I needed at least 4 grade 12 courses (I am from Manitoba).
And for your second question, are you asking if there is a page where it shows you the specific minimum required grade? If not please feel free to elaborate it for me😁
@@RichardHanOh, I meant like if I had to retake a course for example like calculus, or chem for a second time to get a higher mark would they allow it or is it first time only? And yes would you be able to send me the link thanks.
Oh I understand now, if you retake a course to get a higher mark UofT will only count that as 1 credit, and you will be able to find the minimum requirements when you reach up “University of Toronto admissions requirements” (Click the first u of t website that pops up). Also I remember when I was writing my application there was a page that explained everything about minimum grades specifically. I hope this helped and if you have any further questions please let me know😁
hello richard! i'm currently in grade 11 and i'm hoping to go to ubc for the arts program (liberal, not visual). i'm terrible at math and i'm worried that's going to affect my application, even though i have no plan of going into any science or math related programs or careers. i finished grade 11 precalc with an 86%. my current grade average without the 86% is a 98-99%, but since i'm not finished grade 11 yet and adding the math grade in there will bring down the average. i took grade 12 precalc early and did terribly. i finished with a 77% and got a 57% on my provincial. i'm only taking one other grade 12 course right now which i currently have 100%, but i'm still worried that my math grades are going to affect my application. one of my courses is IB level and aside from grades, i'm involved with student council, eco club, tutoring, volunteering and i have a summer job. do you think my math grades will affect my acceptance decision? this might be a silly question considering my other grades, but i still can't help but worry over math. i hope you can give some advice!
Great question, so I definitely think your grades won't cause you any trouble getting into UBC. I think your math grade can be compensated by your extracurricular activities and your other grades (Also 86% in Precalc is not bad at all, so I don't think you need to stress about it too much). It's great to see that you got lots of great extracurricular activities, extracurricular activities are especially important if you are applying to UBC since they ask for you to write a portfolio. Remember for your portfolio Its all about how good/unique of a story you can make with your marks and extracurricular activities. So try to let them know what you learned over the years and what makes you stand out from other applicants. You got good grades and great extracurricular activities so I think you have a great chance of getting in. So try to be as genuine as you can be when you are writing your portfolios and you should be on your way to UBC. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
아직까지는 크게 accounting based 라는 건 못느꼈어요, 수치상으로만 봐도 Management, finance and economics, accounting 중에 accounting 으로 specialist 하는 학생들이 제일 적어요. 하지만 붙으신 대학들이 모두 다 괜찮은 옵션들이라서 제가 섣불리 추천을 못드리겠네요. 제가 만든 동영상 "Interviewing the smartest guy at the University of Toronto" 한번 보시는 걸 추천해드릴께요. 그 동영상에서 토론토대학의 강점을 잘 정리했거든요. 궁금한점 더있으시면 댓글 또 다시고요, 좋은 결정 내리시길 응원할께요.
Great question, but I am not too sure if I can answer this question. So I would highly recommend you to contact the university about this. I am so sorry that I couldn’t answer this question but if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Hey Richard I’m currently applying to Rotman. I’m a 105 applicant from Alberta and my overall average is around 94(including English). However, my English average is quite low at 80 which drags my overall grade down quite a bit. Do you think I have a good chance? I’d say I did decent on my supplemental application. Thank you
Hi Harry, first of all congratulations on applying to Rotman. I was also a 105 applicant and I understand how hard the application process can be. Your overall mark is very good, with your average you shouldn't have trouble getting accepted to Rotman. If you also feel like you did decent on the supplemental application that's also a very good news (many high school students have trouble in the video interviews). Now the most important question boils down to how successful you were in the application process compared to other applicants this year. To me it looks like you have a good chance of getting into Rotman. Best of luck, and I hope I was able to help a bit 😁
Richard Han hey Richard, thanks for your encouragement! I have just received my offer and I’m super excited to be going to Rotman commerce! Wondering if there’s anyway I can contact you privately as I do have some personal questions? Thank you so much and keep up the good work!
Idk tbh I think that you would have to do calculus. For Alberta we have Math30-1 which is the same as pre-calc and Math31 which is calc. From my understanding and where I come from, Math31 is needed to apply. However your situation might be different and there might be different rules regarding that. Hopefully that helps and best of luck to you next year!
How many subjects do you need to show for your UBC application? Can you pick stronger subjects and leave one or two weaker ones out to obtain your average?
Great question, I think I put all of my subjects into my application so I am not too sure if you can leave out any subjects. I doin't want to risk giving you any wrong information so I would highly recommend you to reach out to UBC about this question. I am sorry that my answer to your question wasn't very clear but if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish you the best of luck in your future!
If you were going for the most prestigious programs, and you had a 97% why didn't you apply to ivey, queens and mcgill? PMF is the best in Canada by far, but sauder as a whole is mid, and same with rotman com (rotman mba is the best in Canada but undergrad not so much)
Hi Richard , really your videos are helpful for future students, Is it undeclared engineering must for Uoft or we can choose the course directly? Expecting your reply please.
Great question, so as I mentioned in my video grades aren't the only thing they look for. They look for your involvement outside and beyond school. They want to know who you are outside of classes, so make sure to show them who you are in video interviews and supplementary applications. If you have a balance of great marks and extracurricular activities, no matter where you are from you will have a good change of getting in. So I definitely do think you have a good chance, make sure to be as genuine as you can be. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!

Great question, as I mentioned in my video grades aren't the only thing they look for. They want to know who you are outside of classes as well. However you said that you got multiple extracurricular activities and your grades are great. So I think you do have a chance of getting a scholarship, but I want to mention that it really depends on how well you did compared to other applicants in your year. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!

안녕하세요 this video really opened my eyes and I look up to what you have been doing. I am in grade 11 and just like you, I want to go into UBC Sauder business. I just have a few questions that I hope you can answer. 1. I have extra curriculars in two sports, soccer and basketball, and lifeguarding. Should I open up to more extracurriculars? 2. I stand at a 96%(precal 11), 75% (english 11), 84% ( bio 11), 83% (chemistry). If I do better in grade 12 for my english and science marks, will adminstrstors be judging from my grade 12 marks or am i screwed😭. 3. How many volunteer hours did you do? 4. Will the marks from courses that arent relevant to buisness affect my chances of getting in? 너무 감사합니다 I hope you respond because i need all the help I can get😊
First of all thank you for your kind words and great questions. 1.) I think the extracurricular activities you have are great, just make sure to explain to the recruiters what you learned through that experience 2.) as I mentioned in my video grades aren’t the only thing they look for (especially if you are thinking of going to UBC because in my opinion their application process is more based on extracurriculars & portfolios). So don’t worry too much about your grades, as long as you do better than the applicants in your year you will be fine 3.) well here is the thing, when I added every single volunteer hours I collected throughout my life in high school I had about 400+ hours. But it’s not about how much hours you have, it’s about the quality of those hours. 4.) all your grades in your transcript will be looked over during the application process. So I think yes I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Hi, Richard! I am a grade 10 student from BC (I am a Chinese Immigrants). My current plan is to apply UBC, U of T, and McGill in Commerce. What are some extracurricular I could do that is somehow related to commerce major? And also which grade's final score are they looking for, is it only 11 and 12, or 10 included? Thank You!!! This video helps me a lot since there is a UBC Sauder online presentation the day after tmr!!!
Hi, thank you for your video. I have a request. My daughter is in grade 11 and wants to become a pharmacist. I am looking for chemistry test extra practice resources. Sometimes, her teacher teaches university level chemistry lessons and there are some tests related to those lessons. I would appreciate it if you could give me some information about good resources.
I’m from America and am very curious as to what schools in Canada are good and also how much it cost? I don’t know anything and am completely new to to the idea of applying to schools in other countries, let alone schools out of my state...
Hey I’m currently in an American curriculum school outside of the US and I want to apply to a life science major in UofT. I was wondering if I should only take all the prerequisite AP courses or should I aim to go for more APs on top of that. And does it matter which year I take those APs?
Great question, however I don't think I can answer this question because I am a domestic student studying business. I really don't know what the prerequisites are for life sciences and I don't want to risk giving you any wrong information. So I would highly encourage you to reach out to the university about this. I am sorry that I couldn't answer your questions but if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish you the best of luck in your future!
Hello Rirchard, Thank you for this video. I want to ask a question, I am in Canada for 1 years to learn English, and I want to apply this year (like November, December), so if I do extracurricular activities like doing volunteer before I apply to universities, can use them? If you ask why, I studied high school outside of Canada, and I really cannot show any evidence for my extracurricular activities because in my country students do not use them to apply a university. So, let me explain my situation... I like chess and I played many match up, but no licance. I went to gym for 2 years while studying at high school, but how can I prove it? I follow F1 races, but it is not important... I played basketball more than 3 days every week, but just for fun, I am not a professional. I was in some nice organizations like preparing events, but not on paper :(. I just do not want to write NOTHING, but I really do not know what to do. If you have an idea, please let me know. Thank you for your interested.
Great question, first of all I want to say that I totally understand what you mean. Me being an immigrant as well, I was really confused and lost when I came to Canada. So I would first like to congratulate you on your attempt to write university applications. As I mentioned in my video its very important to have a compelling story for yourself. So your hobbies/extracurricular are hard to prove (since they are not on paper) but you can still tell them what you learned from it. I know it can be very stressful but don't give up. I hope I was able to help a little and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Hello, how much universities in total did you apply to? Whats the process of applying for bachelors as an international student? When should i give my Sat, Ap's and TOEFL?? I am currently in grade 10 with 95 percent avg grades and i already have lot of achievements in computer science. Please answer the questions cause you are my only saviour.
Great question, so I applied to UofT and UBC when I was in high school. Since I wasn't an IB student I don't think I will be able to answer the questions you have. I would highly recommend you to reach out to UofT about this question as well. I am very sorry that I couldn't answer your questions but if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish you the best of luck in your future!
Great question, I think both will be very good in the university application but in a different way. Taking IB or AP helps a lot when you are actually at the university. Since you already learned some of the material you will learn in your first year, it will be a lot easier for you to manage your time and learn. Getting good grades definitely boost your chances of getting accepted but as I said in my video grades aren’t the only thing these universities look for. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish you the best of luck in your future!
Hi Richard! Thank you for making this amazing video for future UofT students ! I'm a grade 11 student and currently rooting for Journalism or Creative writing in UofT. My gpa for grade 11 so far is 95%, but my biology mark was a 87. Will that affect my chance alot?.. I just heard alot of things about having to get atleast above a 90% in order to get accepted, even though the minimum requirement mark is 70%~80s .
No not really. I'm in grade 12 right now and i just got accepted to trinity college at UofT and UBC with an 89 in French 11 which was my lowest . It all depends on what program you are applying to. I had a 96% average in grade 11 and I have a 97 in grade 12 so far
Hey, I am an international student looking to go to Ubc/Dalhousie/toronto and while my grade 11 is not very good (87%) I really focused in this year and I am certain that I will get % in the range of 96 and 97%. Only because of grades (I do have extra curriculars) am I good with at least the grades even though my grade 11 grades were not the best?
Great question, so I definitely think your grade 12 mark won't cause you any trouble getting into all the universities you want to get into. I think your grade 11 mark can be compensated by your extracurricular activities and your grade 12 mark. Its all about how good/unique of a story you can make with your marks and extracurricular activities. So try to let them know what you learned over the years and what makes you stand out from other applicants. I think you have a great chance of getting in so try to be as genuine as you can be when you are writing your portfolios. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
What if you have applied for a bachelor of arts? (no specific program). How would i determine what courses are used for admission? What do you think is the average ?
Great question, so in that case you will just need to look at the general admission to get into University of Toronto/UBC. For students that wants to go into specific programs such as business or engineering, they will have to not only meet the general admission but a program specific requirement as well. I can't remember what the general requirement was from the top of my head but it was contained the number of courses you must take in high school and the minimum grade. I remember the the average to be not that high, but make sure to check it again in their admission page. I hope I was able to help and thank you for watching the video!
Hi Richard, your videos are very clear and helpful! Do you know anyone majoring in Psychology or Marketing in UBC or UoT? If so what’s the minimum requirements for grades and what kind of extracurricular helps in the portfolio?
Great question, I know someone who's majoring in psychology at UofT and he told me that it depends on how good your grades are compared to other applicants in your year. Student council, sports teams and volunteering experience are all very good options for extracurricular activities. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish you the best of luck in your future!
Richard Han Thanks for your reply😉 btw would you recommend a student who want to study Psychology or Marketing to apply for UTSC or UTM? I have heard that they offer more co-op opportunities. Is it easier to get accepted by those two campuses compared to the downtown campus?
Great question again, however since I am a student at UTSG I don’t know much about what other campuses offer. I would say that UTSG is a little more popular to students compared to other campuses because it’s considered to be the “main” campus. So I am sorry that my answer to your question wasn’t as strong but if you have any further questions please let me know!
New session for applications start around late October and ends around early December! but make sure to check because it depends on the university that you want to go to. Good luck!
Great question, since I am in Rotman Commerce (which is a business program at uoft) I don't know much about the admission for Public Relations. However I am guessing you will need math since pretty much all subjects require some sort of math, but don't worry too much if your math grades aren't that good because as I said in the video grades aren't the only thing they look for. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Great question, so I am pretty sure every year they make new questions for the video interviews (or else everyone would know what to prepare for) but for my year they asked questions like “what were some adversities in your life and how did you cope with it?”. It’s not as bad as you expect it to be, and try to be as genuine as possible with your answers. I hope I was able to answer your question and if you have any further questions please let me know! I wish the best of luck to you in the future👍
Hi i am from i dia and want to study businesses related courses ir degree My only question is that does ubc or u of t look at average percentage or percentage of specific subjects ( courcea related sun) as in my case will they look in my business studies sub grades or overall percentage in class 12
hello ? thank u for making this video for everyone who wants to study in u of t in the future. i'm an international student from mongolia . i'm currently planning to apply u of t and my average is 98% this year i have finished my high school . do you have any advice ? also do i need supplementary application? thank you
First of all it's great to hear that you are planning on applying to uoft and great question! First of all your grades look great, they shouldn't cause you any trouble during the application process. Now I would recommend you to really think about what your strengths are and what you learned throughout your life. Once you figured that out, try to convey that through your application. In terms of supplementary application, it will depend on the program you are applying for. Some programs have this but other programs don't so check if the program you are applying for has this process. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish you the best of luck in your future!
Richard Han thank you so much 😊 i’ve never expected that you actually respond to my question. Thank you for your great advice and i will try my best to follow your advice . Again thank u so much for helping people who need help I’m really appreciate that 🤗
Hello thank you for your question! So I actually wasn’t an IB student (I was an AP student) and I don’t think taking a specific class will boost your chance of getting into business school but I certainly think your extracurricular and supplementary application will. However by all means you should take a look at some of the recommend courses they listed (or any required) because taking those courses will definitely help you study when you make it into a business school. I hope I was able to help a little bit and please let me know if you have any further questions! I wish the best of luck to you in the future 😃
Very good question! So typically the university looks at grade 11 and 12 marks the most. They use grade 12 marks to figure out if you are eligible for any kind of scholarships they offer at the university, and they combine both your grade 11 and 12 marks to see if you are above the minimum average and see how well you did compared to other applicants that year. Obviously higher grades will lead to a better chance of acceptance, but make sure you are taking the appropriate courses for your university/program that you want to get into! I hope I was able to help and if you have any more questions please let me know! I wish the best of luck to you in the future 😁
Great question! So Ivy league schools such as Harvard didn't offer an undergraduate program I was interested (they only offer it to grad school students). Secondly since I am from Canada, the cost of me going to schools in the states would be very expensive (Currency from CAD to USD was Also a problem). I was also more familiar with Canadian schools and I didn't want to be too far away from my family. However school in the states were definitely intriguing and I will probably consider going to grad school in the states if I get in!
@@RichardHan Yeah I also noticed while applying this year that many prestigious schools don't offer bba programs (UCLA, LBS, etc.) So I too just went for Rotman, Schulich, Ivey, QC
Hey there, I have applied to Queen's, Ryerson, Simon Fraser, Windsor but no luck. could u name some universities which getting accepted in as an engineering master student isn't that hard?!
Great question, so you don't have to do your extracurricular activities just in school. So my advice will be for you to try to find other extracurricular activities outside of school (don't just confine yourself in school). I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!

You literally verbalize the things that I thought was important when applying to uni! The lego pieces example is very very relatable.

Here’s what I have:
- on the basketball team
- Volunteers at the school & public library
- Math Peer Tutor after school
- Part time job at a restaurant
With these, I don’t think most of these are really business related or showcases who I am outside of school, and I was hoping if you could recommend some useful extracurriculars.
Richard Han thank you for your kind advice and tips! :))

This is so helpful and you fr seem like the nicest person ever . Thank u!!

Cassidy can you tell me some strategies of how u got that good of a grade?
@@_quixote i have 9.7 gpa and all i can tell you is take notes, and always search up extra information on a topic you are, i personally always did some extra research whenever i had homework in Geography and most of them where extra facts that weren’t mentioned in books

Hi, thank you for the video, it was really informative! Do you have any examples of the topics that were discussed in video interviews?
Great question, although I am sure they change the questions every year but for me when I was applying to Rotman Commerce/Sauder they asked both basic interview questions and real life questions. So they might ask about your opinion on a certain issue in the world or they might ask you to tell them what has impacted/changed your life. They can really ask anything so it's very hard to prepare for these interviews. I hope I was able to help a little and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Richard Han thank you so much!
I wanna go to rotman, does making the basketball team and wind ensemble help?
Thank you for your immediate reply Richard . What's the percentage they are considering for computer science engineering?
@@RichardHan Thank you so much, this was so helpful! Hopefully everything goes well!
Hi Richard! Great video! I had a quick question regarding AP and IB courses; what happens if your school does not offer those types of courses? I was able to find an AP Language and Composition course in an outside institution and am studying for the exam, but I don't have access to any other rigorous courses right now. What would you suggest?
Hey Richard, Love your videos!! Does UofT require a youtube interview?

Can i take AP Macro & Micro economics instead? because im gonna be honest, the thought of taking calculus scares me a little bit. btw i go to a SABIS school in egypt, and i really wanna make it to UoT.

Hi Richard, thanks a lot for your videos. I would like to know whether UofT or UBC consider educational credential assessment for Foreign degrees.

It's definitely okay to not take AP/IB but I would recommend you to go over university level materials before going to university👍👍
hello richard! i'm currently in grade 11 and i'm hoping to go to ubc for the arts program (liberal, not visual). i'm terrible at math and i'm worried that's going to affect my application, even though i have no plan of going into any science or math related programs or careers. i finished grade 11 precalc with an 86%. my current grade average without the 86% is a 98-99%, but since i'm not finished grade 11 yet and adding the math grade in there will bring down the average. i took grade 12 precalc early and did terribly. i finished with a 77% and got a 57% on my provincial. i'm only taking one other grade 12 course right now which i currently have 100%, but i'm still worried that my math grades are going to affect my application. one of my courses is IB level and aside from grades, i'm involved with student council, eco club, tutoring, volunteering and i have a summer job. do you think my math grades will affect my acceptance decision? this might be a silly question considering my other grades, but i still can't help but worry over math. i hope you can give some advice!

I’m doing online school. Does UfT accept online school students???
Great question, but I am not too sure if I can answer this question. So I would highly recommend you to contact the university about this. I am so sorry that I couldn’t answer this question but if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Hey can you please tell me where to find the graduate syllabus for UofT
Hi Richard, the grading system is quite different in my country. What does 97% mean in terms of A*, A, B kind of grading system?
Is Calculus a necessary subject to have in order to apply to Rotman? I only did pre calculus 30 in my grade 11 year. Do I have to do calculus?
Idk tbh I think that you would have to do calculus. For Alberta we have Math30-1 which is the same as pre-calc and Math31 which is calc. From my understanding and where I come from, Math31 is needed to apply. However your situation might be different and there might be different rules regarding that. Hopefully that helps and best of luck to you next year!
Do you have to maintain your GPA at the university to retain the scholarship?
Any tips for students still under Quarantine? My pingpong and debate team are both dead
I'm an Indian with 86% in 12th grade studied in state board syllabus. Can i get into Rotman BBA?
Great question, so as I mentioned in my video grades aren't the only thing they look for. They look for your involvement outside and beyond school. They want to know who you are outside of classes, so make sure to show them who you are in video interviews and supplementary applications. If you have a balance of great marks and extracurricular activities, no matter where you are from you will have a good change of getting in. So I definitely do think you have a good chance, make sure to be as genuine as you can be. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!

Good luck!
what undergrads require AP or IB courses? Ive never seen any programs that require AP or IB in Canada. Even Waterloo doesnt require them
Hi Richard!!! Can you help me? My GPA is 94, and I don't know if I have chances to get into business. I really like UofT. Hope you can give me some advice
I’m a canadian citizen born and studying in Ecuador, my school does not offer ap or ib classes. The grading system is from 1 to 10, I have a 9,5 gpa. My extracurriculars are multiple, but I am still worried about applying. Do I stand a chance at all to get in and might getting a scholarship? 🥺
Hey im in grade 8 and plan on going into some kind of engineering field. However, i don’t understand how im supposed to pick my courses and what courses to pick to major in engineering. Also i tried finding the minimum grades for UFT and I couldn’t find it. Can you please tell me the minimum GPA for uft.
Hey I have a very good avarage grade but I did not take AP mathematics which is required can I take online classes to fill the gap or sat for mathematics? Because even though I'm in 11th grade they will not let us change them now. It would be very helpful to know thankyou.
Do I need to submit a personal profile for the course of MS Astronomy in UBC Vanc? It's not mentioned on the website, there's only a statement of interest mentioned.
hi richard! i wanna study international relations, is this program exist in UofT? anw, i like your vid!
Thank you so much and yes I believe uoft offers international relations!
@@RichardHan woah, im at grade 10 now, ill study harder to catch UofT TT btw, someone said UofT students just focus on studying and dont really want to making friends, is it real? im not canadian so im afraid its real 😅
Richard, I've little to no extracurriculars but have good grades. I want to study engineering. I would be grateful if you can give me some advice .
너무 감사합니다 I hope you respond because i need all the help I can get😊
adding on to 3. what i meant was, if i take a grade 11 and 12 of the same subject, will the grade 12 mark be what universities look at mire?
First of all thank you for your kind words and great questions.
1.) I think the extracurricular activities you have are great, just make sure to explain to the recruiters what you learned through that experience
2.) as I mentioned in my video grades aren’t the only thing they look for (especially if you are thinking of going to UBC because in my opinion their application process is more based on extracurriculars & portfolios). So don’t worry too much about your grades, as long as you do better than the applicants in your year you will be fine
3.) well here is the thing, when I added every single volunteer hours I collected throughout my life in high school I had about 400+ hours. But it’s not about how much hours you have, it’s about the quality of those hours.
4.) all your grades in your transcript will be looked over during the application process. So I think yes
I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
I am pretty sure they will look at both equally but I highly suggest that you ask the university about this as well👍👍!
Hi. I'm aiming for UBC fall 2022. You have any friends in MS Astronomy course in UBC Vanc? I actually have some questions so they might help me out!
Hello Rirchard,
Thank you for this video.
I want to ask a question,
I am in Canada for 1 years to learn English, and I want to apply this year (like November, December), so if I do extracurricular activities like doing volunteer before I apply to universities, can use them?
If you ask why,
I studied high school outside of Canada, and I really cannot show any evidence for my extracurricular activities because in my country students do not use them to apply a university.
@@RichardHan Thank you so much for your answer Richard, it was helpful for me.
Hi will an pre cal 11 mark of 85% make my transcript look bad if im applying to architecture? If i have a decent GPA of 95% ish
What kind of questions do they ask in the video interview
Will taking ib make me get a preference in my university application versus getting higher marks in normal academic? (Btw, im in Ontario)
@@maitrapatel1192hi what faculty did you apply for, if you don’t mind telling
What is the difference between B.Com from Rotman and B.com from Missisauga
With above 90% average will it be acceptable for master's program in engineering at UofT ?
@@RichardHan Thank you so much !
So bruh, what’s your real real reason to choose UBC and U of T?
When does the new session start?
New session for applications start around late October and ends around early December! but make sure to check because it depends on the university that you want to go to. Good luck!
@@RichardHan I am applying for university of Toronto this year. And when do the classes start?
@@muskan5136 It starts in September, just like high school!
I wanna study Public Relations at UOFT so baaaddd.. does math really count cause that’s the subject I’m currently sucking at😂 lmao
What did they (ut) asked in video interview and how it happened?
Pls reply
Great question, so I am pretty sure every year they make new questions for the video interviews (or else everyone would know what to prepare for) but for my year they asked questions like “what were some adversities in your life and how did you cope with it?”. It’s not as bad as you expect it to be, and try to be as genuine as possible with your answers. I hope I was able to answer your question and if you have any further questions please let me know! I wish the best of luck to you in the future👍
Hi i am from i dia and want to study businesses related courses ir degree
My only question is that does ubc or u of t look at average percentage or percentage of specific subjects ( courcea related sun) as in my case will they look in my business studies sub grades or overall percentage in class 12
Hi I have a question what if your school doesn't offer the classes you need as a requirement?
hello ? thank u for making this video for everyone who wants to study in u of t in the future. i'm an international student from mongolia . i'm currently planning to apply u of t and my average is 98% this year i have finished my high school . do you have any advice ? also do i need supplementary application? thank you
First of all it's great to hear that you are planning on applying to uoft and great question!
Again thank u so much for helping people who need help
I’m really appreciate that 🤗
Pls which courses are you supposed to take as an IB student for better chance to get admitted for business school? Which courses did you take ?
Hello thank you for your question! So I actually wasn’t an IB student (I was an AP student) and I don’t think taking a specific class will boost your chance of getting into business school but I certainly think your extracurricular and supplementary application will. However by all means you should take a look at some of the recommend courses they listed (or any required) because taking those courses will definitely help you study when you make it into a business school. I hope I was able to help a little bit and please let me know if you have any further questions! I wish the best of luck to you in the future 😃
hey can someone tell when i should apply to UofT by? winter session pls. thanks
How much do they look at grade 11 marks?
Very good question! So typically the university looks at grade 11 and 12 marks the most. They use grade 12 marks to figure out if you are eligible for any kind of scholarships they offer at the university, and they combine both your grade 11 and 12 marks to see if you are above the minimum average and see how well you did compared to other applicants that year. Obviously higher grades will lead to a better chance of acceptance, but make sure you are taking the appropriate courses for your university/program that you want to get into! I hope I was able to help and if you have any more questions please let me know! I wish the best of luck to you in the future 😁
With such a high stats did you apply to any Ivies or schools in the states?

My school doesn’t have that many extracurriculars, any advice?
Great question, so you don't have to do your extracurricular activities just in school. So my advice will be for you to try to find other extracurricular activities outside of school (don't just confine yourself in school). I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Richard Han thanks for the speedy reply, Richard! Do you have any examples of extracurricular activities I could do?
Look for volunteering opportunities from local events👍👍
