Awww, I never wanted it to end. At 13, in 1985, I loved this movie so much I'd dress like Anne around the house (in my baby sister's bonnet), pick weed flowers and try and recite the Lady of Shallot just the way Anne says it. It may be a Canadian classic, but I was Anne in Australia.

Anne With An E got me, somebody who never grew up with the story, to fall in love with these characters. Now I've discovered that it was my grandmother's favourite childhood story (it's very similar to her own life story), so now every version of this story feels like I'm close to her. I'm so glad that these wonderful, magical characters have been passed down the generations.♡

She was Anne. Better than anyone else. That has always been my favorite movie and always will be. She was and still is my hero.
I was 12, unable to understand English. Every Saturday night, I stayed up, with my parents' permission, to watch this show with subtitles. I was fascinated by the story, score, cinematography, and the exquisite Canadian maritime countryside before I had the vocabulary to describe my feelings.

I remember my mom and I would check out this movie free from the library. We would check it out every week to watch over and over. We were very poor and couldn't afford to rent VHS movies (the 90s). As a child, this movie opened up a world for me, that I still remember to this day. Such a beautiful, wholesome story.

My children bought this for me for my birthday. We would watch the entire set of the Green Gables and Avonlea. We would start on Friday night and go right through to the end on Sunday afternoon. The most awesome movie EVER!!!!
I had to tape it from TV onto VHS and didn’t always get the ads cut out or start recording at the right time. But I loved it

How many movies are there from this version? I remember my math teacher in 6th grade made us watch it and I’ve always wondered how I can buy the movie set. I don’t know if it was because I was a kid that exaggerated the concept of time but it seemed like we watched Anne of Green Gables the whole school year for a portion of the class. Without a doubt, this was the absolute best Anne and also Marilla. Probably Anne of Green Gables in particular is one of the few series that I will remember for the rest of my life and every time you get melancholy. It was played so beautifully.

The first short novel i ever read was when I was 8 years old and it was Anne of Green Gables. Im an aboriginal Australian so a white ginger person is basically the opposite of what I am. (Dark skin dark hair and eyes) but I remember from kindergarten that I thought gingers were the most beautiful people that I'd ever seen and I think reading Anne of Green Gables had a very big impact when it came to that. I still think gingers are the most beautiful people and its just more proof that opposites really do attract sometimes. I eventually snagged my own ginger husband and ginger son!!! The more red and freckly the better I say!!!
This is the cutest comment Ive ever read! 😂 What you said its so true! I was white and grew up in a very mixed family full of dark skin latinos, blacks, and asians. I didnt like being white and somehow my kids got all the qualities I wanted😁My first has freckles and curly hair, my youngest got the beautiful tanned skin, and my third has the beautiful Asian eyes. Their father also came from a similar mixed background so they were just born that way. They all look alike, you can tell they are siblings but different at the same time. Its quite amazing!

I don’t ever get too much of this whole classic masterpiece. Never ever gets old. I wanted more after the 3rd one.
I don't know if this would be of any help, but there are eight books in the series, six mainly featuring Anne and Gilbert. Only three got turned into movies, but I am starting to binge the series, and whether or not you have read them before, it's so fun jumping into the series that we love so much and rediscovering moments and characters/ friends. ^-^
I just finished "Anne with an e" and I am so sad of its end that I am desperately searching for all the movies / tv series created over the years. I can't watch any other movies except with those actors! :(

The book (Ann of Green Gables) is required reading in Japan and when we were visiting PEI, they made up the largest group of visitors. I would love to own a home on the island.

And i was just watching the pilot of anne with an e, on netflix, halfway thru the episode, i felt that role of anne looks quite difficult to portray, esp for young actresses... So i decided to check other versions if any ( not anne 😅)... Glad that i found this one... Certainly looks and feels better...

I visited PEI all of the time but one year when I was at least 10 or 11 my Grandmother, Aunt and Uncle, and Mom took me to go see Anne of Green Gables the play, and a tour of Anne's actual house... it was beautiful! L.M. Montgomery was such an amazing author. She inspired so many writers. The Pride and Prejudice spin-off novel Wickham's Second Attempt uses such phrases such as "kindred spirit"

The cherry on top of the entire Anne of Green Gables series whether be the books, adaptations or Netflix show, is that it is a beloved Canadian story and different generations have had the opportunity to enjoy it. Still praying for a season 4, but will watch the movies to fill the void left in me by the cancelation of Anne with an E after 3 seasons. 😢

This serie... I am bot native to english language but I lived reading it. My english teacher loaned me ‘Anne of..’ to read. I devoured it & once I knew how to order other part from the bookstore to import, I bought the series complete. That was 32 years ago....
Then I found this series on TV. I was hooked from the start.
OMG I hadn't thought of this movie for years. My grandma had bought it, back when it was on VHS, I couldn't count how many times we watched it together. Truly one of my best childhood memories 🥲 I miss her so much now 😢
I have loved this show I didn't realize how old this show was when I saw it but a couple of days ago I watched a video that got me to see the remake this and now I found out that the actor has passed away 💔💔💔 RIP to all who are no longer with us.

Around 00:30 the trailer says “A Canadian Classic” though I would argue it’s a world-wide classic. Anne, Marilla, Diana, Matthew, Gilbert, Josie, Miss Stacey and all the other wonderful characters were my childhood here in Australia.
Beautiful movie, wonderful actors and gorgeous location. I got to visit the house in PEI in 1988; it was amazing. Wish I’d taken more pictures.
This is a trip down memory lane, I used to watch this with my mom all the time when I was little, it was her favorite movie and I really grew to like it. I'm going to have to watch it again soon, see if I can rope my mom into watching it with me, I don't think she's seen it in decades...

I first watched this in 1991 and have watched it countless times since This 'Anne of Green Gables' is suoerb. I just love the characters, scenery, the storyline and the music from that period. Love the costumes too. Marilla's peppery character is the perfect foil for Anne's unstoppable penchant for getting into trouble.
I stumbled upon AOGG one afternoon on PBS. I couldn’t stop watching. I fell in love with Anne’s story. I’m going to share it with my nieces soon. 💜

I'm a 47 yo male and proud to admit that this is my favorite book, and this adaptation was the best ever done. Casting was marvelous! Megan=Anne period.

This was my big sisters fave movie whenever she felt down or just in general. We would often watch together when we wanted to feel cozy. I couldn’t watch it for years as it made me too sad. My sister and I were definitely “bosom buddies” as Anne says. 😢❤️🩹 I’m gonna watch it again and think of my sister. Wish me luck I don’t get too sad. 😢

Check out Anne With an E on Netflix or CBC Gem (if in Canada) it’s a beautiful adaptation. Uses the characters, but not necessarily the story. It’s beautifully done.
No, it's not! It's not true to the book nor to the spirit of the story and characters. It's a horrible bastardization and serves as a vehicle for leftist propaganda. Not to mention, the acting was horrible.
It's a beautiful show for itself. But not a good adaptation, has almost nothing to do with the books. For me, has it's own charm, but not as an adaptation, as an individual series.
