The False 9 in Football Explained

The role of a number 9 has changed drastically in recent years with more and more additional requirements.
The false 9 revolutionised by Messi and Firmino is the latest role demanded by the modern game.
The false 9 requires a player who is more capable of assisting a teams build up and progression play. Using a false 9 has many rewards. It can disrupt an oppositions defensive unit and create pockets of space for inside forwards or midfielders to exploit.
