What a car. Loved it when I was 24. I’m 53 now and its still one of my favourite cars. Couldn’t afford one at the time so I made do with the GSI 3000 24v after having the Astra 16v. I must say Vauxhall run things with affordable monsters back then.
i did the same having a 3000gsi 24v and after owning a few cars {i'm 60 now} the 3000gsi is still my favourite . My girlfriend at the time liked , not for the speed or styling but for the fact that she could put all her shopping in the boot and not put shopping bags on top of each other!. So practical too .

What a beast awesome machine, my mum used to have a 3 litre Carlton gsi when I was younger and she drove it like she stole it too. Always remember the looks from the dad's when she picked me up from school in it..... Good memories
Ram raids were a big thing back in the day, from memory the fashion started in Newcastle, I still remember some electrical shops in Salford had all the items in the window chained together. It was a nightmare for my pal lol.

@@keltthomas8476 tuning it and doing what we have done hasn't destroyed it it's made the car more reliable, the ECU is an old Corvette ECU if an injector goes down or a throttle position sensor you will have the car off the road because they are no longer available and the ECU is so old it can't be tinkered with to run any other injectors, but he ECU I have in the car has many many safety features on it so that the engine is protected from loss of coolant, oil etc and also protects if the fuel goes rich or lean it's also running wide band lambda sensors as apposed to narrow band so again another good thing for safety of the engine, if have an issue with an injector failing I can put any injectors into the car and program it to run those injectors so my car stays on the road, the fact I can extract more power from the car is an added bonus, so I beg to differ with your comment of destroying such a car we have only made it better and more reliable

Seeing one go past a row of traffic still lives with me as the backend squatted down and took off. Also used by a camera crew to film a diablo on the autobahn back in the day. It would be interesting to see what its like compared to a standard golf r and 140i in terms of pace.
Think once they get high end speed this will be right there with them and show them up but for sheer acceleration and handling the m140i and golf r would leave it. Not to take away from it its a stunningly fast car from way back when.
@@johngrant8533 handling wise it would be better than the lotus carlton but on a straight I think it would be much quicker than the golf r rolling. Over 100mph it deffo would just be gone. Never been impressed with a golf r for straight line performance. Corrected the 1st sentence

The limited slip diff is from the HSV ,VN Group A Commodore from Australia... which also used the ZF 6 speed gear box. Great era of cars, the Lotus Carlton/Omega will always have a place in my dream car collection.

Remember one of my old bosses mates had one of these back in 93 and he was only 25 at the time.One of my biggest regrets was not asking him for a ride in it.Car just looked the business.So rare to see on the road nowadays.Saw one a few years back on the M25 and that was the last time I’ve seen one in person.
I got overtaken by one on the A30 between Broomhall and Bagshot around 1992/3. It jumped the 2 cars behind me and the 3 in front in one hit. We were probably doing 50. Amazing, and so understated. Someone else said it. A fantasy car, especially for a young driver driving a 12 year old Volvo 345 with 100,000 on the clock 😂. It was rear wheel drive in its defence, (the 345)

I did my school work experience at Lotus in 92 went for a spin in one of these, and went round the test track in an Elan, it was also the last year they made the Excel.
Very cool, liked them back in the day and as with everything in the 90's I like them even more as I get older. reminds me of better times in the world, life and well everything! The last great decade IMO!

I had one of these in the 90s, it would do nearly 70 miles an hour in first gear.
I did my apprenticeship at Vauxhall in the 90’s and the area manager had one of these, seriously quick car in their day and still no slouch!!
