It's difficult for the younger generations to understand how fast this was compared to everything else. It really was in s league of it's own. Awesome cars.
It’s kick ass innit .
Our youth are pure ruined these days for cars that utterly rock we had tae put up with metros n the like ha ha .
The lotus Carlton was n still is some machine innit 👌🏼ah love tae see the cars ah coveted so so much as a young lad still doin ther thing n showing this new breed what it’s really all about.
The LC man awesome
If you knew you knew
@@G4RY1159 lol and we knew brother 😉
As a fresh faced 17-year-old back in 1991, this was my absolute fantasy car. So good to see one again in such good condition. 🙌🏻👌🏻
Me too bro 😎
Just imagine what could’ve happened if the world did don’t know it power restrictions on shit
1990 twin tubs 300+bhp factory lol
only Vauxhall worth looking at sapphire killer
Please bring it back when it’s been fully tuned.
Certainly will Ricky is also going to document the rolling road tuning aswell 👍👍
And some decent tyres lol
You don't turn a car of.this statue it's a legend in its own right its a proper drivers machine and requires alot of love and respect. Tuning it will.just destroy it
@@keltthomas8476 tuning it and doing what we have done hasn't destroyed it it's made the car more reliable, the ECU is an old Corvette ECU if an injector goes down or a throttle position sensor you will have the car off the road because they are no longer available and the ECU is so old it can't be tinkered with to run any other injectors, but he ECU I have in the car has many many safety features on it so that the engine is protected from loss of coolant, oil etc and also protects if the fuel goes rich or lean it's also running wide band lambda sensors as apposed to narrow band so again another good thing for safety of the engine, if have an issue with an injector failing I can put any injectors into the car and program it to run those injectors so my car stays on the road, the fact I can extract more power from the car is an added bonus, so I beg to differ with your comment of destroying such a car we have only made it better and more reliable
@@yhshah21 WHY!!! Nothing wrong with the tires on it, I don't drive it like a. C*** so don't need to be rapped for tires
This car is a legend and the owner couldn't of picked a better youtuber to do a drive. Also there is a video on UA-cam showing that parliament tried to banned this car back in the day.
How come they wanted to ban it?
@@1979jon “too fast”
@@1979jon I've been lucky enough to be a passenger in one of these, my friend has one, when he bought it it came with a newspaper clipping from the 90's saying the government wanted banned as they didn't want a road legal family saloon car being able to out do a police traffic car. Lol
Legendary cars, only ever seen one in the flesh many years ago. You're so lucky to get behind the wheel Ricky 😎
yea was a guy in manchester back in the day with a green one and the only one i have ever seen .
caught a glimpse of one the other week at a car meet, had to double take.
Thanks for the feature Paul 💪🏽
Great video. I remember being so impressed with these cars when they came out in 1990 when I was a car mad 22 year old.
Remember when you could pick these up for £1,000 as the insurance was a total nightmare around 30 years ago
Yes been waitin 4 someone to do 1 of these...
Defo a 90's legend 👌
I never knew these existed til now, now I feel like my life won't be complete without one
Love everything about this except for the seatbelt pads
What a stunning car 😩😍
One of the most underrated cars to date, beautiful motor
I'm 40 now and this is my dream car..more than a cossie
Ricky couldn't stop giggling. Love it
Just sold my e39 M5 to put toward one of these. My favourite car when i was young
I only saw 1 of these cars on the road parked up back in the 90's in my whole life.. these cars were rare back then too.. Looking at this car in the video doesn't do it any justice.. To really appreciate this cars aesthetics you really need to see this car in the flesh.. awesome looking..
Omg Ricky what a car the beast of my childhood, absolute animal my neighbour had one always garaged but one he brought it out you bloody new it great video.
Reminds me soo much of my Cavaliar Turbo 4x4.
Stunning car, that off centered steering would drive me nuts
Can't see how it's off centered it had four wheel alignment done two weeks prior to the video 🤔🤔
Audi s1 is the same ...Worth the pain 👍
Do you mean offset steering wheel?
keep doing you Ricky my man Love the content!!
Vauxhall's answer to the Cosworth, these are close to 100k in value now True legend of a car.
The only vauxhall worth owning great car.
When I was a kid in the 90’s my old man, a fellow petrolhead had the opportunity for a quick joy ride in one of these……
still bangs on about it to this day 😂
Would definitely have one in my “euromillions win” garage
Beautiful!! 😍
I don’t rob banks & it’s definitely one of my dream cars. I’ve only ever seen one in the flesh & I thought was amazing! Was maybe around 1990
That engine bay looks gash
A friends boss had 1 in the late 90s and i remember it costing £1500 for discs and pads all around back then. Used to enjoy overheating aswel lol.
It is a great car. Especially standing at the traffic light
nice the real guy has another 40ra car thats awsome
I understand 40 RA was left rotting in a Police compound in Basildon before being repaired and sold on again. Funny how the original owner is back in possession of a Lotus Carlton 😀 The one in the Canal wasn’t 40RA.
The original 40ra was rebuilt & painted a different colour
This is the magic rocking horse of the time. The thing of legends to a barnsley lad, not impressed with Italian and German design but the fruits of this country. The only car I wanted more than this is the delta integrale
The original fastest saloon out there and it is a monster what a motor fair play Ricky top work on getting the owner on
Childhood icon car .
Wow, what a beaut
I know it’s all personal preference but that gold is horrendous but I like the oe look. Fair play though nice motor
allo'.this dream car together mercedes E500 ,only mercedes ever used special porsche engine, for ONLY 1 TIME,is not only extremely power and speed, but THE CONFORT AND SPACE FOR LUGGAGE,its absolute insane.if u look the lotus engine,is like a PICASSO OR MATISSE PICTURE.connolly-leather,less electronic invasive, the value for this car is incredible after 35 years.bye.
Bro you could do with a workout plan and diet, only £50 or so a month
Who would have thought this ordinary looking Vauxhall would me made to go that quick back then
Nice one of my 3 car dream garage cars 1st carlton 2nd Ford Sierra rs cosworth 3d BMW clown shoe :)
Plot twist, he the robber
Legend of a car
Need to get a C5 RS6 on here, could use mine but it’s knackered at the minute 😂
My dream car
I can remember being 10 years old and seeing older kids robbing GSI 3000 24V GTE 16V GSI 2000 🤣😎👌👌👌
40 RA was a legend I had a replica GSI 3000 wish I still had it 🥹
Vauxhall Carlton gsi 3000 u should get one Ricky
This is the Lotus Carlton the bigger brother to the GSi 3000
What a car
Mike brewer vibes
A 4 door saloon car that could hit 177 mph in 1990 - mindblowing at the time!
Great video, lovely example of the car, really digging the gold look for it👌🏻
What a car. Loved it when I was 24.
I’m 53 now and its still one of my favourite cars. Couldn’t afford one at the time so I made do with the GSI 3000 24v after having the Astra 16v.
I must say Vauxhall run things with affordable monsters back then.
i did the same having a 3000gsi 24v and after owning a few cars {i'm 60 now} the 3000gsi is still my favourite . My girlfriend at the time liked , not for the speed or styling but for the fact that she could put all her shopping in the boot and not put shopping bags on top of each other!. So practical too .
Hell of a machine
This, the rover coupe 220 turbo, calibra turbo, fiat 20vt coupe, best 90s cars
@@richpolecat6527 yeh you have a different idea then, because these are cars i find iconic, for my own personal reasons, so take your trolling attitude somewhere else, sorry if i have mis interpreted what your saying..but they are the best cars of that generation and quite frankly i would have any of those for a price, THAN GET ANY MODERN CAR FOR FREE.
@@richpolecat6527 very sad attitude to have. You have it for a reason, but i am obsessed with the older generation cars, especially the cars youd think a typical British person would drive. Old novas, capris, rover, astra gte and gsis,.
Can tell Ricky was looking forward to this, he's done so much research before the vid. What a cracking car!
He even researched that it was based on a Carlton.
Above and beyond!
The owner is a cool straightforward dude!. 👍 😎
The Vauxhall Carlton GSI 3000 24v was also an epic car back then. The Lotus was a step up again.
My pops owned one in green. Best car he ever owned he told me. Had to get rid of when I was born
Hell of car the GSI Carlton think the police had the Senator 24 valve and they loved them.
I had 2 of the 24v Carlton's they wer awsome cars
@@ARDEN440i Yeah they were a joyriders/ramraiders favourite back then. Insurance must have been a nightmare. Seeing the police chasing stolen cars was an almost daily occurance in the early 1990's
vauxhall were killing it back then left the competition in the dust
It got 4 left side rims
No pops, bangs or whistles just speed. Exactly as a fast car should be in my opinion...
Couldn't agree more.
pops and bangs should be left for rally cars only
not shitty modern hot hatches
For me this was one of the best super salons made in the day
💯
It’s good looking even by today’s standards
I remember parking behind one in my 06 wrx just thinking wow, 14+ years later and he would still take me 😂😂 Definitely the original family car supercar beater. Just the way it sits, low and wide, it is gorgeous in person.
Man, this car is legend! This thing blew cossies away in the day. Absolute weapon! Happy days
What a beast awesome machine, my mum used to have a 3 litre Carlton gsi when I was younger and she drove it like she stole it too. Always remember the looks from the dad's when she picked me up from school in it..... Good memories
I love the Lotus Carlton. Only car guys know about them. Savage.
Bring it back once its tuned, amazing car. Also feedback, the sound levels are different throughout the video parts.
Vauxhall's godzilla
That car omg its beautiful
You defo have to get his son's car and his wife's car on 💯👍
As a 45 year old it is still my dream car. Been dreaming since 1996😪
You know man like Ricky is doing levels when he's got a Vauxhall Lotus Carlton featured on the channel
Heard and seen the cars never heard of Ricky or levels Ricky 😁
the most iconic car off all time nice car and great video
Bad man wagon. The old days UK police knew they had to give up.
Robotcop didnt exist back then.
The Vehicle description comes over the radio.
Coppers are like "Nah fuck it. We got no chance"
@@Matt-di6nb fact!!!
I remember a neighbour having one of these when I was a kid. Vauxhall had some cracking big cars years ago, my old man had a Cavalier Gsi 4x4 when I was growing up. That thing was a flying machine. Wish I had it now 😎
Booom let’s go LLF gang, man like Ricky, don’t forget to be posting them shorts brother the algorithm feeds off them!
Yo rickz dont forget the Volvo 850 t5r. I've got 1 in a estate cream yellow. Beautiful car from the 90s I must say.
But this car was a dream to drive. Lotus carlton
Get a review of it the t5r is a beast love them.
Now that’s a car!! 😎 what a weapon
Absolute weapon, way ahead of its time. Seen about 3 of these on the road, all those times the front end just lifts off and goes.
Renault 5 gt turbo next Ricky sick video tho bro 👌🏽
Legendar model last time BACK special Gran turismo car model sport 1990
Beautiful now matter what love them so much brilliant 👏 ❤️
That thicc retro sporty look, always liked it.
What a machine the fastest vauxhall
Easily the coolest car to ever appear on this channel and by a long way
You might be right m8, these things are so rare you just don't see them around (even on youtube). Amazing car with a reputation and mystique all of its own. Special bit of kit👏👏
Facts mate. My favourite super saloon ever just an absolute weapon.
Nahhh that red escort cosworth would muller this thing
560bhp and 4wd you could still lose the police in a 180mph Cosworth
@@chiefrocka8604 yeah true but the carlton was getting away from police completely standard.
GOAT saloon
The legend of 40 RA still lives on, been following it for ages
Ram raids were a big thing back in the day, from memory the fashion started in Newcastle, I still remember some electrical shops in Salford had all the items in the window chained together.
It was a nightmare for my pal lol.
Wonder 💭 who the ram raiders were. Surprised it’s not come out after all these years.
After the Sapphire Cosworth, this is one of my most sought after car's
Seeing one go past a row of traffic still lives with me as the backend squatted down and took off. Also used by a camera crew to film a diablo on the autobahn back in the day. It would be interesting to see what its like compared to a standard golf r and 140i in terms of pace.
Think once they get high end speed this will be right there with them and show them up but for sheer acceleration and handling the m140i and golf r would leave it.
Not to take away from it its a stunningly fast car from way back when.
@@johngrant8533 handling wise it would be better than the lotus carlton but on a straight I think it would be much quicker than the golf r rolling. Over 100mph it deffo would just be gone. Never been impressed with a golf r for straight line performance. Corrected the 1st sentence
@@MrAaronb400 yeah true. Just know a lot of cars at todays standards get shown up by the 140 and the golf's. Especially with them having dsg and zf gear boxes.
@@johngrant8533 dad had one of these, if u can drive ur easily out drive a 140 n golf r in this even at low speeds
@@johngrant8533 golf r’s aren’t that fast, they feel quite torquey but are lacking in power as the revs rise. That’s my feeling after being in one. A 377hp Carlton would be much quicker on any roll race.
Nice!!
Your forgetting about the E34 b10 alpina bi turbo from 89, that car did 180 mph, faster than the lotus Carlton.
I know Ayrton Senna drove one of these and said he thought it was a fantastic saloon car.
Beautiful car
Fair play for having the balls to mod such a car :)
Sick car. I remember seeing these in magazines back in the day, so cool. What about the politicians back then wanted to ban them thats how sick they were haha. Ford Australia carrying on similar theme (up until 2016) with the Falcon turbo. Also a relatively cheap family car with straight six turbo power.
Old school bad boy 👍
Nice
Wait, Ricky you put this on the wrong channel 😂🤷♂️
what a beautiful car
That is a stunning car
remember my neighbor bringing one of these home ,I'd of only been around 12 years old and was in awe, absolute weapon in 1991 and even now....
my favourite vauxhall by far, gorgeous car 👍
Mint blog... love a lotus carlton... keep ya cossie
Who doesn’t like a lotus Carlton.i mean cmon what a legend of a car 😎
Especially given the well-known story about 40 RA…
@@joshbacon8241 did a robbery outside a police station basically and still got away 😭
