The bearded white dude with the sunglasses in the video is Rick Rubin himself. Jay-Z gives him a shoutout on the track - "You crazy for this one, Rick!" Jay-Z brought in Rick to produce this song when the Black Album was mostly finished. One very notable contribution of Rick's to the track - it was his idea to start off acapella and bring the beat in like a bat to your face. Rick Rubin is, without question, the GOAT producer. No competition.
@@itzjustsa3668 i think he is definitly in contention for GOAT. look at how far back his career goes and who he has produced. he not only does hip hop but rock, alternative, emo, even country.
It's good but i think today the 4th Amendment is interpreted a little differently and technically police can search your vehicle if they want to. All thy need is reasonable suspicion to pull you over even for a minor traffic offence and even if they make a mistake in their reasonable suspicion which was confirmed in a Supreme Court case in 2014 or 2015 (after this song came out). The officer can perform a pat-down and if his suspicion is conformed eg possession of a weapon or contraband can elevate to probable cause and detain occupants, search vehicle. I think they can even establish probable cause even before the pat-down if they have reason to believe criminal activity is taking place and is enough to pull you over and search your vehicle. I guess the defense attorney can later argue in court whether proper procedure was followed and whether there was enough evidence to constitute probable cause but in the end the judge would probably side with that Supreme Court hearing.
@@otj8068 Perhaps you misunderstood what I said. Maybe I wasnt clear. I'm not supporting the cops nor do I believe they had probable cause in the video to pull over and search the vehicle. Obviously it's injustice and a racially-motivated thing. My point was that today, these cops can pretty much do what they want with no consequences. We live in a police state where the authorities if they wanted to search your vehicle will do so and get away with it. The court case I was referring to was Helen vs North Carolina (2014) where a cop pulled over a couple for a broken tail light, that in fact turned out to be unlawful. The cop then used this as a pretext to search the occupants and car and found coke. This was challenged in court and initially the couple won however the Supreme Court overturned this on appeal basically saying cops can make reasonable mistakes in establishing probable cause.
Jay Z deserves ALL the success he’s had, and more. The lyrics: “you know the type, load as a motorbike, but wouldn’t bust a grape in a fruit-fight…” just so friggin’ good 🙌

The fact Rick Rubin is in this music video in a full on pimp jacket makes this already way to legendary music video beyond anyones comprehension of epicness
I used to live in this neighborhood.... impressive that he went back there to shoot the video. Im not even a big fan but I gotta say he knocked it out of the park with this video .
The best edited music video in history, courtesy of Robert Duffy/Spotwelders. And of course director Mark Romanek for having the good taste of hiring him.

Jay-Z is a genius. This song rocks. Only one complaint with the lyrics. He said "cuz I'm African" paraphrased. He is mother fucking American! And one of the best!!!
I remember when this video debuted on bet . Before the video jay z went out his way to give an advisory of the shooting scene saying he "was playing out of part" . Jay knew predictive programming and he ain't want that bad voodoo in the air. The system taught him well.
Our realtor told me what we were getting for our house last year. Had a shit-ton else going on but was happy about the sale price. Told her I got 99 problems but the house ain't one! She laughed her ass off and said she was gonna listen to this song now! Thanks Jay-Z, excellent song, and joke hook!
There's a part of me that wishes that The Black Album was truly his last album. Such an incredible experience and the documentary "Fade to Black" was the perfect Hip-Hop documentary to close out his career.
I have come to this song very late, and I cannot get enough of it. Which is saying something for me as a feminist. The beat is irrepressible, the video is lights out, and the depiction of police interference in young black men's lives never more relevant. A website about the song on "Genius" links to a law professor's take on the accuracy of the 2nd verse.....yet again affirming the intelligence Jay-Z speaks of in the song. A master class. Brilliant.
I wonder what happened to this gu...just kidding! We all know Jay Z is one of the greatest rappers to pick up a pen! I could listen to this song all day without break! Wish my generation made dope tracks like this too, but maybe I'm just too busy listening to the oldies to notice...well I'm sixteen without about 30 problems, so I still got time to find as much as I need.
Love this version. Can't stand it when songs like this get censored It's a crime against music
Against Human Culture even!!!
I can garuntee if he wasnt swearing, they'd still find a way to censor it.
Too much truth about abusive governments.
