In 1954, my buddy Jay Carter and I were in the Aero program at Utah State. We did a project with an Aero Champ we bought for $300 bucks and trailored it to Logan. 85 hp, metal prop, glider fab with 9 coats of dope. Canvas seats, no ratio lights or extras. I flew it home to Moab several times. Once I landed on the dirt road next to the highway and got a hamburger at the cafe. Also, once I got thermals to 15, 000 ft. You guys bring back a lot of good memories with the quakies and elk. We sold it for $1800. No student loans in those days.

Bush planes are so cool! I live in northern Nevada and have been looking into building a kit plane. I can land in my backyard so airstrip no problem, taken 10yrs talking my wife into it. Great video can't wait for part two.

You flite test guys blow me away! Thanks for posting this. This is what me and my FSX friends used to live for before MS sold to LM Prepar3d. We did a flight from the southern tip of South America to the last airport in the Aleutian islands over a six week period. That was awesome. This video reminds me so much of that....

Been watching Trents video's for a while now and with him its about personality , video footage , music , timing , production quality and of course the astonishing pilot talent coupled with the whole bush thing that makes it as entertaining as anything I actually pay money for .... You guys got it too .. the ability to produce these things at a high level of cool .. fun as all get out to watch ... Good job
These dudes are having too much fun! You can tell that they're buddies for years and fly the heck out of their capable machines. Bush pilots do have a different mindset, they're not afraid... ;-)

There's a lot of truth in that statement. My dad was a Bush Pilot/Hunting Guide in Alaska through the '50s and that certainly did require a very different mindset compared to the rest of your neighbors. The hardest part was that the harsh weather up there and the technology available in the 1940s & 1950s was a whole lot different than today. I really admire and envy these guys. This stuff looks like SO much fun!!!!!

Great Video I Drove Big trucks for 30 Years fabricated stuff for heavy hall’s like these guys do with their planes I’m mostly bedridden now with spinal cord injuries and these guys generate that Spirit that my body needs Their love of flight and craftsmanship to create new things for the bush plane pushing the limit yet keeping safety in check making it even better to watch Mike and all the guys keep up the good work I would really hope to catch a ride with y’all one day

Josh went to get a ride in an F-16 and you guys got to go fly bush planes. F-16s are cool but I'd take a bush plane adventure any day over a ride in a F-16. STOL aircraft are my favorite kind. Look what you can do with them. Awesome video.
Id still like a ride in the F-16 though.

It's like comparing supercars vs. extreme rock crawlers, but rather their aviation equivalents. Both have their own special appeal.
So awesome I love those cubs... I watch alot of them flying in alaska. They are like the go everywhere plane. Like a dirt bike or atv...but airborn.

Man I suprised they sport Wilgas! The moment I recognized one in the hangar I was blown away. I'm from eastern/norther Europe, and of course, these Wilgas in the video are much nicer than ones we have here, but it's the same plane! I'm a glider student pilot, and we use Wilgas for aerotowing, and I second you on Wilgas being flying tractors.

Wilga is my favourite tow plane for my glider :-)
my uncle was professor of aviation at Chicago's Lewis U, had his 80th birthday party today. He rebuilt from the ground up a Cub J-3. My first flight was in that 34 years ago, it was like sitting in a lawn chair, surrounded by tubing and fabric and with an old VW engine for power. Scary as hell, he asked me if i wanted to take the stick, i said "no way!".

Funny, I still have an R/C plane that I made in 1984. Never crashed it, and it still flys great. I wish I had a full scale plane to compare to!

I have a story for you. It came back to me when I saw that kitfox.
Last September, we had an event called "All About Flight" at the local airport. Loads of people came out to see the event, even pilots from around the area. We had a pilot come in flying a bright yellow Beechcraft Staggerwing, pilots flying a couple Cessna 182's came in, a local with an experimental amphib aircraft came in, and a local flying a kitfox came in. Spent the entire day there talking to the folks, their kids, even the elderly who were pilots one time. I even had a nice little chat with one of the waist gunners from a B17 during the day.

Great video guys. Reminds me of a time four of us chartered a DeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver just to relieve the night crew during sea trials of a new ROV we were testing in Vancouver. Should have seen the looks on their faces when we stepped out on the floats. They thought the Prime Minister or somebody important was coming because who charters a plane to go less than 10 miles. We do.

I absolutely agree. I find it does nothing but take away from the content. Being young they think they have to fill every moment with their music not realizing or not caring that to an awful lot of people it's just bad irritating noise. I had to quit watching near the beginning of the flight as it was just ruining the moment!
