Never even considered the differing size from middle cut to sizing the brick to match your laying pattern by taking out that little section for the mortar! Thanks for sharing and yes my brick oven thanks you as well!

If u cut a brick in half, u have a half brick. Well done.
If you score the brick all the way around, the crack tends to follow the score mark, less tiding up to do.
