Amazing defensive play Gabbie! It was mos def a moving screen, thank goodness the referee had the integrity to call it. Too many times they swallow the whistle on the last play. Great job Marshall you are a fierce baller‼️
2 excellent teams, not just CC vs Paige. The ref was brave to make that call, typically they let the players decide at the end. It was definitely a moving screen. It would have been interesting to see the play develop. Stuelke popped out on Paige so that left Edwards with a open shot at the FT line. Great game!
defense wins championships and Syd in the starting line up really improve their defense. Gabby has always been their best defensive player. she's got quick hands.
When I saw it live I thought it was a weak call, but when you see Edwards from the waist down in the replay it's *obvious* how egregious it was. It's sad a game ends on a ref call in such a dramatic situation, but it was the right call.
Gabbie is one of the best defensive players in the women's college game . The little things she does turnout to be huge . Best of luck going forward . Huge task ahead of them with the Gamecocks . Go Hawkeyes .
It was a great game, and both teams played exceedingly well. Regarding the call, I'm a BBall ref and my training--and the rules--make clear you can't shufle your feet out into the path of the defender, raise your elbows and initiate contact. That's a football play, not Bball. It's the ball handler's job to bring the defender to the screen, not the scfreen to the defender. And it occurred in the closing seconds of an exciting game. Not intentional. Also not gauranteed to change the outcome; there was still a pass and a shot to be completed. Congrats to both teams and their exceptional athletes.
Iowa Women has such a special team, they rally around Caitlin and all play their role to a tee. Gotta be honest I've never been this interested in the Women's Ncaa tourney, twice already I've caught myself searching for Iowa's gametime. More then i have for the Men this year but that also has to do with My hometown Lobo's losing to Clemson. Really rooting for these girls and hope they come away with the SHIP! SC is fierce and it's gonna be some great bball. I just think this is great for Women's basketball.
Aaliyah Edwards saw Marshall heading towards Paige Bueckers and knowing she is a great shock blocker went a little too far and made a football block on Gabby. And was called for the offensive foul. Bueckers was shooting about 41% and at the time ucon was behind by 2. So saying the refs influenced the outcome is ludicrous. Even if she had gotten the shot off there the odds were NOT in her favor to make it. More than likely Gabby would have blocked it.
It was obvious watching it live that Gabbie knew it was a moving screen. She had her back turned to the official and when the whistle blew she pumped her fist without even looking at the official to see what the call was. All the players knew what the call was immediately, and so did Geno who was standing probably less than 10 feet away and looking right at it. Geno's immediate reaction was toward his player who set the screen, not the official. It was an obvious call that officials make virtually every time no matter what the game situation is. If the official doesn't call it he's taking away the defender's right to play good defense.
Two questions now: 1) what are we gonnar do to shut down 6’7 Cordosa? 2) And what are we gonna do so another team doesn’t shut down shots/assists by Caitlin like W Va and now UConn has done?
@@loridobos7174 - Yeah, true ... But they shut her down nearly the entire 1st Q and then some of the 2nd Q .... They did it right (not good for Iowa) but just didn't have the talent/endurance of UCONN to sustain it adquately for an entire game.
"The green eyed bandit" strikes again, preety " GABBIE" again comes up with a BIG play for the HAWKS.She will make another big one in the final game if its close cause that's what she does....
Gabby Marshall is known for playing great defense and so people shouldn't be surprised she shut page down. Also Gabby is known for being a great deep 3 shooter too. She really a very part of the team. Caitlin Clark didn't score 40 points, and the team still won. The part the reason they won,it because Gabby played great defense in the game.
The normal TV angle clearly shows Edwards moved over with elbow up; that is a moving screen. You can’t block the defender off the offensive player. If Gabby isn’t blocked Paige, all this with clock running at 4 seconds, might not get the ball or Gabby gets a hand on ball causing clock to run out or causing a turnover or Gabby and Hannah surround Paige so no shot or Paige has to call timeout with maybe 1 second. Also Iowa has a foul to give to stop clock on any scenario causing an inbounds to put time at 1 second or Less. Now let’s talk about real Fouls not called like the 3 point attempt by Caitlin in the 4th where she had a foot put under her, which should have been 3 foul shots. But the worst is the constant fouling on Caitlin with or without the ball. It is Not good defense to body her, push her, arm bar her, hack her ect. The real question is why Bludder took the ball out of Caitlin’s hand when they Always run the offense thru her and that insistence on trying to pass the ball to Hannah at the top of the key or foul line that wasn’t there?
Gabby don’t think one nano second about what people say who have never put themselves on the line in any way especially tv talking heads who are clueless. And nba hater bullies who can’t count steps.
Gabby always shows up on defense and they knew Gabby was actually going to find away to steal the ball for that’s what she does toward the end of games then that offensive player of UConn gave Gabby an elbow and that should have been called and it was a flagrant foul period
Marshall has been fighting through screens all tournament. She moves her feet, and fast. She earned that foul, because she got by and forced the knee and arm to reach out to knock her away. That’s just solid D.

This was not a moving screen and all the big $ following Clark had to make it to the finals. The Iowa player whined and sold it to the ref. These type calls should not be made to decide a game as important as this. Also shows hat put great defense on Clark she looks pretty normal
@@kevinkilroy3909 As an Iowa fan, I’m just giddy that call has affected so many haters like you.🤣
@@kevinkilroy3909 That bad call was no more like the technical foul the slapped on CC for “throwing the ball to the stands”. Except last year Iowa fan did not go trolling LSU chats to whine about the refs haha
Caitlin Clark push off for 3 pointers was in front of referee and ref was fine with it. Bias referee.
The problem besides the moving was the lifting of the elbow that made it a foul for sure it happened at the most inappropriate time, but it was a foul. The game could’ve gone 1000 different ways with three-point shots falling or not falling one of these teams had to lose, and one of these teams had to win… all those young ladies played a great game
I never could understand how people say you can't make that call in that situation, hey if a foul is committed it's a foul regardless of the situation of the game. SMH
Well done GABBIE
Look who stepped up ! The whole team, when the going gets rough, the team gets tough. Caitlin has to love it !
This girl didn't get enough credit in this game. She's much shorter and held a great player for UCon in check. She played so hard the whole game defending a very good player. Great defense!
Abso-FUCKING-lutely!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
it was the right call regardless if it was UCONN's last possession..dont set a moving pick and they might have won..esp when Edwards elbows got thrown into Gabbie a bit..subtle yet made enough contact to draw that O foul..nice work GM
Why everyone asking her about the call? She’s not the one who committed the foul.
Amazing defensive play Gabbie! It was mos def a moving screen, thank goodness the referee had the integrity to call it. Too many times they swallow the whistle on the last play. Great job Marshall you are a fierce baller‼️
Gorgeous green eyes, lovely latte skin. Tough, ball hawk defender. Not afraid to shoot a 3 in crunch time. Gotta love this young lady. 💚💙💜
Those green eyes ❤❤❤
@user-hb6ot5vf1i pedo or odb
Yes D! BUT GABBIE HAS TO SCORE MORE AGAINST SC! Please!!!
As well do all of them for a win and championship
Kathy yes, I largely brought her up because she's the only starting five that's probably averaging 3ish points the past 5-6 games.
She can get a bit streaky with shooting. She didn’t have a good offensive game tonight so I think she’s due . Hers 3’s are a beautiful thing.
That was the 3rd moving screen called against that player in the game. All you ask is for consistency by the refs and that’s what that was.
You're awesome Gabby!
Gabbie is a big reason for a lot of their wins. Her defense needs to be talked about more.
Nobody mentions this but …Kudos for the Referee in crunch time to NOT be afraid to make the right call as they see it!
What a smart player. She knows the rules incredibly well and defends accordingly.
Gabbie coming up with some killer defense yet again. Props to her and her contributions to a team win
I don't know if it was a good call or bad call but i did hear the N.Y Jets signed Aaliyah Edwards this morning to block for Aaron Rodgers next season
UConn fans crying about the refs making a bad call... That was clearly a moving screen. They got it right. Gabby struck again!!
AGREE. the problem is that call doesn't get called consistently but it's clearly a moving screen and she popped out her elbows which is worse
Not even close
Watch the video, she stuck her left knee out to catch Gabby, had to call it!
@@mr.robert2507 what wasn’t close? This game was hella close.
When I saw it live I thought it was a weak call, but when you see Edwards from the waist down in the replay it's *obvious* how egregious it was. It's sad a game ends on a ref call in such a dramatic situation, but it was the right call.
It takes your five best. It’s not just Gabbie’s skills, it’s her humility that makes her game stand apart. Congrats to Iowa, one more.
Gabbie knew she drew that foul.
yeah its called being smart
Anyone with eyes know it was a blatant foul..
Those without eyes may see it differently
Gabbie is one of the best defensive players in the women's college game . The little things she does turnout to be huge . Best of luck going forward . Huge task ahead of them with the Gamecocks . Go Hawkeyes .
Gabbie will be missed as one the awesome members of this great Iowa team (team being the operative word).😊🏀♥️
Should have been defensive player of the year. Great job Gabbie.
that last play was a clear offensive foul. it just happened at the end of the ballgame..
Of COURSE she knew it was a moving violation! That's LITERALLY her job, and she's one of the best!! ❤❤❤
Both teams limited the other’s superstar. She did a great job slowing Paige down
Iowa Women has such a special team, they rally around Caitlin and all play their role to a tee.
That was a foul through-and-through. Johnathan Ogden would have been proud! 😂 💪🏾
Caitlin had 32 points against West Virginia.
@@loridobos7174 - Yeah, true ... But they shut her down nearly the entire 1st Q and then some of the 2nd Q .... They did it right (not good for Iowa) but just didn't have the talent/endurance of UCONN to sustain it adquately for an entire game.
It was a foul !!! I have no dog in the fight.
"The green eyed bandit" strikes again, preety " GABBIE" again comes up with a BIG play for the HAWKS.She will make another big one in the final game if its close cause that's what she does....
Prettiest Girl on the Court
Gabby defensively is tough. Held her to 17 she's averaging like 28
THIS NEEDS to be talked about more!! Gabby help make Paige a practical ghost this entire game!!!
Clutch defender!!!!!
Gabbie has been clutch all season. Without her, Iowa is at home. Go get em Hawks.
Gabbie played an AMAZING defensive game ❤
Way to go, Gabbie!! Go Hawks!!!
It was a moving screen,Foul end of story
Great game!! UConn played great D for the most part, even though I'm an Iowa fan in this game.
Yes it a moving screen with her body moving left with her elbow out and a foul is called…Good job Gabbie Marshall…❤❤
Marshall has been fighting through screens all tournament. She moves her feet, and fast. She earned that foul, because she got by and forced the knee and arm to reach out to knock her away. That’s just solid D.
My Crush 🔥🏀. Excellent team work tonight 🏀
Way to go gabby she did push it you with her elbow you played a great game now hers you chance that iowa team and you 1 I tell them we win it for our team and win it for your coaches and most of all go out your team and win it for mollie that something needs brought up for mollie ❤️ you HAWKEYES NOW NOW GO TAKE IT
What disturbs me most is the level of bias within the commentators of the WNBA. Added to that the racist attitude of past players (Swoops to be specific) there is nothing more harmful to women’s sports than what is unfolding in front of the nation. Why tarnish the attraction Reese’s and Caitlyn’s skills brought to the sport. Who gives a hoop or a holla whether they are white, black, gay or straight.
The foul was obvious. Even one of the commentators, when they replayed it, could not keep from blurting out "ouf!" when she saw it slowed down.
The OOF was because it was such a ridiculous call to make at that point, and was really tough to swallow....
@cbrend22, Gabby Marshall did shut page down. That why page team didn't win. Also you math is wrong. Page only had 17 points. You talked about a 3 and if the 3 would have fallen, page would had 22., tou need go back to school and learn to add. 17 and 3 don't add to 22. 17 and 3 add to 20. You need stop hating on Gabby Marshall. You need get your math right and not hate on Gabby Marshall
How did today go?
"Baby Doll" Marshall immediately knew what was up with that moving screen/elbow out. The refs did not cost UConn the game, Edwards did! Gino should do a better job of coaching the proper technique for a legitimate screen. Besides, if the call had NOT been made, and UConn scores,
THEN all everyone would be talking about is the missed call. Move on whiners,,,,,,
Lady Hawkeyes have "9 Lives"..!!!!!
Gabbie is such a team player that's so cool.. Her looks are incredible. Nice game Gabby
She is so beautiful
If she'd of just stood still and not lean in and put her shoulder into the other player coming around, there would not have been a call at all. The refs have been making that call all year against my favorite team.
Paige should have ran closer to Edwards.
Gabbie .. Iowa secret weapon strikes again !!!❤
Gabby the prettiest girl on the court
Looks like Edwards was an experienced Roller Derby Defenseman. That foul was so obvious when looking at full replay of Edward’s movement of legs and closeup of her arms. Apologies
should be made by ESPN post game commentaries. Otherwise fire them all. Praise the Ref. for the right call. ESPN bias…where do they get their paychecks?…Bristol, CT? hmm
I am an LSU fan....and this girl puts a G in defense..... yeah ikr
Gabbie rocks!!! So good!!!
depending what bench you sit on tough call at the end but honestly the right call … Gabby got blasted . In sports you win some close ones and lose some close ones …one play doesn’t make a game Both teams had plenty of opportunities throughout the game to make up that one play. Just an awesome game gabby and Iowa played awesome defense . I’m a Geno fan …tough season but they’ll be back. Congrats Iowa on a great win.
I thought she played good D on Paige and UConn played good D on Caitlyn and Hannah stepping up was the difference
Gabbie has been amazing all year!!
Gabbie played a real good game . her shot seemed off - her D was great. But she did hit /make a Big shot to earn the W. Her shooting well is so important to Iowa's victories. And Sunday's Game is where she MUST Knock home a few 3's early in the game
Gabby made the play of the game for Iowa. She clearly was a step ahead of the UConn player on that screen.
Just hope she didn’t get Whiplash!!
Ref made the right call
So she was staying on her hip so that nobody could set a screen. So to set that screen, it had to be a moving screen. So that's just good defense
good point, the center was literally trying to set a screen for like 3 seconds. She just wasnt able to. And thats totally not within the spirit of the game. The screene is supposed to work of stagnate screener
