    I just got one from Amazon. It also works with a propane canister using an adapter (Lixada). Looks just like a candle, which is very nice for meals and hanging out at the campsite. It's fine to use indoors if you use common sense

      Does it come with a tube or something to protect it when transporting it?

    I have one. They are super awesome.
    I would note that they are basically a way of turning butane/propane into a candle flame. Nothing more.
    The best way I can describe these kinds of lanterns is from a review I saw. "I thought my canister was almost empty but I could power this off it for hours".
    As long as you know how weak these units are you are golden. They are candle wicks using gas...... and they work forever.

    Thanks for the review. I think this Lantern, apart from the light, is also ideal for generating some extra heat, to warm your hands, or maintain a bit of ambient temperature in a smaller room, perfect for a grid down situation vs an LED battery operated lamp that doesn't.

    Simply amazing that you have to tell people to let it cool off before you touch it. I have 2 of them and they work great

    This is definatly cool. I use those tanks for my bug out stove. Didn't know they had a lantern adapter. Very cool 👍

    Great video thank you for sharing is there enough heat coming off the top of that light to heat up water or a can of soup

    I know need that thing here in Germany. It goes perfectly with the mini gas stove does not take away any space.

    Not all burning makes CO... a blue efficient flame or a catalytic flame like a mantle does not. This yellow flame surely does, but I concur not that much to worry about in most situations.

    • @herrhaber9076
      @herrhaber9076 2 роки тому

      If you want light, you dont want a blue flame, you want incandescent carbon particles. That's why the best gas to make light will always be acetylene (as in carbide lamps). The mantles work by incandescence, no catalysis.

    This appears to be an alternative to the UCO candle lantern in heating my small one man TCOP tent. Neat! Any idea of BTU output?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  4 роки тому +2

      No idea and it wasn't listed anywhere but it does put off some decent heat.

    • @alisinwanderland
      @alisinwanderland 3 роки тому

      I was thinking the same thing! My only concern would be that the top on this one is open allowing the heat to funnel upwards. The UCO has the metal deflector over the top which would mean you could probably use it in a smaller space without as much fear of setting the ceiling on fire.

    While mantle lanterns are much brighter, the mantles do wear out/break.
    What happens when you can't get any mantles (SHTF scenario)?
    You are SOL.
    With the dimmer candle lantern, at least you have some light and no worries about broken mantles or inability to get mantles.
    There is an extension pole for that light too that raises it up about 10"-ish above the tank.
    That way you are not blinded while eating your food or reading.
    I think someone ought to make a 'hat' for that (think vent cap for a home chimney in a way).
    Just clips on and spreads the heat a bit.

      In a SHTF scenario how long do you think you're going to be able to get little propane canisters?

      @@rcash3625 You can refill them with an adapter and a propane tank.
      You treat limited resources exactly like they are - limited.
      You keep the propane items in reserve for when you have no other method to light. heat, cook.

      @@crazysquirrel9425 You made the point of how to get mantles If SHTF... I'm saying the problem will be bigger then that. ..Learning how to harness Bio fuel from your waste... Or being familiar with wood gasification.. Learning to trap / Hunt / Forage for food and live without modern "convinces" is a more sound plan. for long term survival in a SHTF scenario. ... Propane would only be truly valuable to those who don't know how to live off the land they live on.

      Land poisoned by a nuke or chemical problems?
      Can you guard your supplies 24/7?
      Distilling wood gas is not easy nor cheap. Compressing it required energy too. And is usually noisy.
      And that is IF you can find wood after everyone ELSE cuts down the trees for heat.
      Propane and similar are the backup plan.
      In a SHTF scenario, there will be hordes of people after food and supplies. It won't bother them one bit to take what is yours.
      Easier to hide a few bottles of propane than chords of wood.
      I know enough to barely live off the land but still cherish propane and fossil fuels. They can come in handy sometimes.

    For emergency an Electrical light like a LED are not a good idea.
    Batterys discharge overtime and wear out, Lithium need to stored at 50% to 60% of charge to slow down the aging process.
    They can btake damage from Water.
    A Simple Gas light like this doesnt have any of this negative aspects.
    And with only 6g /hour gas consuption with a 440g tank the runtime will be over 72h.
    Light and gastank will be below 30$ this will be hard to beat with an LED light.

      Jon Jaramillo yeah bro if you google”YINGTOUMAN Split Type Furnace Head Adapter Gas Adapter Outdoor Camping Stove Convert Cylinder Canister Stove Adaptor Conversion” there’s a website called Aliexpress they have the adapter that would allow you to use propane for the butane devices like the one in the video, I also bought other adapters for example that allow me to power my coleman propane lantern on butane, reply back if you have any more questions

    • @johnmisrahi9922

      It does - very well! The other nice thing is when the butane cylinders get a bit low and aren't producing a good cooking flame anymore, they will still make the same amount of light when used with this thing..so I set them aside and use this to run them dry
