I repaired Switched PC Power supply, and we had 6 minutes per job, so open it and do some measurements, Swap 6 or 12 components test it, and then on to the next one, If we thought it would take longer, we put it in the junk pile. And when it got slow we picked a couple from the junk pile and spent a long time investigating the fault to learn something new.
Thank you mr sorin for alot of information in your videos. I did listen to you when you said : just start. I started my job fixing electronics and am doing well. God pless you and thank you very much.
Unfortunately Sorin, most businesses nowadays are all centered around the time. I fixed a friend's £1000 Samsung TV in my own time by doing exactly what you did in this video. Stripped it down completely and cleaned the liquid damage. He was over the moon, but couldn't understand why the Samsung engineers returned it as unfixable. I told him that it simply didn't make sense for them to spend hours on a job that they couldn't guarantee a quick fix. That's why so much equipment gets thrown away. 😢
I was also lucky and managed to fix the laptop just by "cleaning". In my case, however, the laptop was kept in a humid environment for a long time, so the motherboard was heavily oxidized. I sprayed the entire motherboard with contact cleaner and scrubbed with a toothbrush. After cleaning the laptop started working 😁
had this same laptop last week.. found out the gpu was defect with a little hot spot.. 13v line was good.. 3v and 5v also good..but one coil has very low resistance like 2 ohm i quess,.... We are owning a computershop but i have learned to repair now, thanks to sorin..
what about a bit of rosin under the chip, just to be sure .... if a bit of liquid is gone under the chip it could give you intermitting problem in the future ...
I keep extra usb keyboards around. When they dirty I run them threw the dishwasher, keys down, then let them dry for several weeks. AS long as you let them get dry, there will be no problems.
do you know what i say when you clean it and you say say the EC chip is dead i say first test it may be it works you did it like you are listening to me what i say and it worked wow sorin you are amazing
If you are going to use water, you should use distilled water. Using fizzy water it will leave alot of minerals on board after drying, which can cause corrosion on the long run.
Hi Sorin, good job and sametime few luck Is welcome, but what about the very expencive italian water to clean 😄... Remember a write you from Florence Italy, is not more cheaper same pure etanol alcol or the zippo u use? 😂, bye Francesco
Ideea of having different screw for battery is a poka-yoke system for the worker on the factory not to switch the screw type on production line and for the service not to put in wrong places the screw
@@RJMCafe no, is a way of not mess with the wrong screw in the wrong place... If the hole of the screw is different (can be with a different pitch) on the motherboard place from the battery place than you need a poka-yoke system for the worker and this is a way...
When I lived in silicon valley I rented apartment from this guy who worked at HP. I worked for a different company. The guy was a nut. We had to take the rent to his house. At specific time and day. It had to be in a white envelope with his name on it. You had to line up against the wall so you couldn't see inside his windows. You only had one minute for the delivery. Really crazy stuff.
I also believe that HP is messing with the screws. On an EliteBook they mark the screws as M2.5 and you would think they are M2.5, but they are M2.4. A normal metric 2.5 mm will not fit, it is too large. There are no metric 2.4 mm, but HP use them.
Pls my elitebook 840 G1 has no power . I opened it and I saw that the first mosfet is totally burnt. I cleaned out and fixed another mosfet. As soon as I plugged the charger puff it smokes again. I don't know the problem could please guide me what could be causing the problem and what I can do resolved this if that is possible. Thanks.
2 pence from me: 1. Why not invest in a ultrasonic cleaner? I use it and is great. 2. Why not charge a repair attempt fee as I do? I charge from £10-30+ parts if I need to on top of that. I work from home and we've got +150 five-star rated reviews. I've got 2 technicians and 2 apprentices, so, repair attempt fee won't kill the traffic of customers ;).
That's what happened to me. My daughter spilled soda on my expensive laptop, but didn't tell me. I took it to a shop and they said it had liquid damage and they can't repair it. I didn't know any better, so I tossed it out. If I had that laptop today, I'd open it up and clean it and see what could be done.
HP has always used Torx screws in its devices, even in PCs and servers. I've always wondered why. but in PCs and servers, the torx screws have a slot to be removed even with a simple slotted screwdriver
This is why there is no point in bringing faulty equipment into the workshop, if you know that fault is not an easy fix. Sad reality now. Time is money.
It comes down to not wanting to charge the customer a bunch of money to look at a laptop that can't be fixed, I never did board repair as it was cheaper to buy a used motherboard at that time (2014-17) and I was just happy to get my bills paid. My ovehead was almost nothing as I worked from home so one of the last jobs I did was a laptop with a bad motherboard, I told the owner it wasn't worth fixing as it was a cheap, older laptop. She asked me what she owed me and I said nothing, I spent 5 minutes and couldn't fix it. The other was an overheating laptop with a dead bios battery, told him $70 to tear it down, clean, repaste, and replace the bios battery that was not accessible . He said that was outrageous, I told him ok, whatever. People.

Sorin ... having germs of being technical and passion to get things to work is one thing and earning money is another...sort of
You are perfectly right!
Sir, you go the extra mile. And then some! Thank you 🤓
Water to the rescue, easy money for Sorin!
U can clean the MB under tap with soap.Need some time to dry but it works :)
Yes indeed, drying can be made faster with a hair dryer/hot air.

I was thinking the same
That will be true if it is exposed for long time, in the case of sorin it won't harm anything
Plus some of those drinks may contain sugars. Not sure what saccharin or similar might do if left on a mobo!

"Fixing a laptop by cleaning, this is new" - man I was laughing, go back and watch yourself when you say that - funny.

Ideea of having different screw for battery is a poka-yoke system for the worker on the factory not to switch the screw type on production line and for the service not to put in wrong places the screw
Do you mean they only allow certain factory workers access to particular screwdrivers so they only can work on particular parts of the laptop?

Hi sorin are those traces next to the CPU for GPU and VRAM or what are they for?

4:50 it’s even pointless, we all have torx screwdrivers ( it’s just to bother customers)
Or maybe the factory ran out of philips screws 😂😂

Its a big lucky what you see on video. Basically liquid damage it's a catastrophe.

60% IPA and 40% water solution for cleaning spills
The screws for the battery have probably a different length, so in order not to mix them up with the motherboard screws, they are made different.
Sir pls explain on EC chip, what the acronym meaning & what it's functions?
