If you love sweet and savory, this sandwich is for you! The ingredient amounts (also in grams) are right in the description and the print recipe is linked there as well. As always, thanks for liking our recipes and videos and sharing our family table each week.
I thought I did everything right but I am not sure. The outside of my sandwich was not crispy enough so I put it in the oven and flipped it to get it hotter and crispier. It was excellent but I will bet it wasn't as good as yours!
I love James! What a great kid! This entire video is so positive. I don't know how old James is, but he expresses himself with a clarity that many adults today do not have. When he says, "I love this." it makes your heart sing.
OMG. Whatever you are feeding this kid is making him grow by leaps and bounds! I like his idea of him doing the cooking. You knew that day would come! Love your videos
Im a serious sandwich guy. Monte Cristo is in Top 10. I like it best with a mixed-berry jam I get which includes cranberries. That + a few dashes of Tobasco in the jam. Just so damn good.
You could also add instead some dijon mustard to the cranberry jam ! That would be Cumberland sauce ! Also spicy and sweet! Oh sorry ! Other way round: sweet and spicy ! @@houngandave
I found him around 1K… amazing how quickly he grew. Very impressive… I think it’s all because of his ‘taste tester’! I’m enjoying watching James grow up!
Oh my goodness, the taste tester had me at the sound of that crunch of his first bite. I’ve never had this before! Seriously yumalicious! Thank you, it’s on my list of must haves.
Unlike some kids who will only eat a few things and hate everything else, James is learning about all kinds of food and expanding his palate. Good food is one of the great joys in life.
Jim, Same as last week when I worried when you skipped adding a new video on Thursday, again it happened this week. I've caught wind of some other chefs I watch who are complaining that UA-cam is no longer giving you chefs your "fair share" and may be making it difficult for you to produce as often as previously. If that's your reason for fewer videos, it's a real shame. I love your presentations and your whole family's participation. I hope you continue as often as you originally promised, at least once a week. I loved today's Monte Cristo video along with James's wonderful comments and ideas. He's a gem! Thank you all.
I LOVEEEEEEE sandwiches and sandwich videos! I love this channel and your sweet family working together. I just wish the videos were longer coz I can't get enough lol!❤❤❤
@SipandFeast I love that you're branching out and doing recipes outside the Italian umbrella, been enjoying your videos for the past couple years. Helped me get more in touch with my heritage. Would only ask that you do a video or two on traditional italian desserts, like maybe an episode on panettone, etc. Just a thought! Love the vids!
Yes! I am here for chaning the roles! James cooking, Dad filming and Mom taste testing. That would be a good idea for the upcoming 1 mio subscribers. 😁
Two things! 1) James definitely should cook next episode! Maybe a Sip and Feast 2 channel on the horizon..James as cook, Mrs. Sip and feast a taster. 2) Another user suggested a LIVE question and answer video and that’s a great idea! It’d be a huge hit❤️
I'm looking forward to seeing James make his Sip and Feast cooking debut. The Monte Cristo sandwiches and a salad will make a perfect dinner for us. Your sandwiches look beautiful and delicious.
One of the many things I enjoy on this channel is the Long Island way you talk. After a lifetime in Jersey and working often on LI, here in FL you sound like home. So when you added an "r" to the end of "spatula" I was over the moon. Plus the sandwich looks mighty fine.
Baking some brioche bread right now to make this tonight!!! I have watched over a dozen spins on this and I think your son is right!! Can't wait to dig in!! Let him cook I would love to see it!!!
Best compliments when your kids say 'I love it!'. And a 10 on top! I will definitely try this, thank you for sharing, your videos are always lovely to watch and learn from! 🥪🥪🥪
James seems like a great kid. Agree he is coming into his own. As the father of three teenage boys (19, 16, 14) I see so many commonalities in the emerging personality, confidence, and overall maturity of that young man at his stage. Great banter with the folks. Recipe is killer too.
Monte Cristo is my favorite sandwich. Haven't made it in forever. I think the "bread" is the star of the sandwich. I use a Hawaiian bread 😋 It sounds like it would be nasty, but it's not. Also I use blackberry preserves.
As a teen, there was a restaurant in Glendale (now gone), and they did a triple-decker Monte Carlo served with maple syrup ... SOOOO GOOOD. Now that I'm old and fat, I couldn't eat it, but my 20-something-year-old-self LOVED (love loved loved) them.
First and only time I had a Monte Cristo sandwich was at a restaurant in the 'Sears Tower' in Chicago. Long time ago.. Thank you for sharing the recipe! Now I know to make myself, what a treat.
You are such a pleasure James and I really appreciate you and all your wonderful recipes, videos, and insight, so PLEASE take care of yourself and my wish is for you to live past your 86th birthday to enjoy your wonderful family! Buon appetito!
The only thing I might do a bit differently, is put the cheese between the turkey and ham. Just happens to make a nice internal thermometer, cheese is soft/ melty, it's probably done. Great vid, and a good idea by James. Switch thing up.
that looks really good.... i think i would put one slice on each of the bread pieces so it 'sandwiches' the meat. i like the idea of the jam.... good idea.
Not a fan of chain restaurants but definitely enjoyed my share of these at "Bennigan's" back in the day. You've inspired me to give this a try at home.
Exactly as I make them - except I put one slice of cheese on the bottom, and one on top. Thanks for the video, and now I have to make them for dinner tonight!
It's a classic knife n forker sandwich. And my localised version of a nation-wide grocer in Alaska has several varieties of gruyere on offer. I'm glad the U.S. is finally getting to the point of having more than american, cheddar and low moisture mozzerelle on a regular basis.
Montes are my absolute favorite sandwich! I haven’t had one in a long time, you really don’t see them on diner menus anymore. Def will make this at home!
Nothing but smiles watching this. Adorable family!! I've never heard of that kind of sandwich, probably not something I would eat but it was sure fun to watch👍😊👍
My spouse would love this sandwich. Thanks for the great tutorial. We live rurally so don’t always have the best quality cold cuts, but we’re going to try this. 💜
Never fails to impress- will be making this for sure . Spot on regarding Boars Head and thin slices ,same with “air pockets”. BTW , I love YOUNG SHELDON and I’m a 65 yo male think the show is awesome and ALL of the characters are great !!!!
I knew it! He is going for your job! Watch your back! I have made M.C. sandwiches from a video on UA-cam of BENNIGAN'S (I used to love their M.C. sandwiches before they closed up) and it turned out great. I am going to try your recipe soon because I LOVE them! Thanks!
Thank you so much for the video and recipe! Thank you, James, for the great switch-up-video idea! That would be a wonderful to see! I've tried this type of sandwich with using a wet batter and it turned out pretty good, but I am definitely going to try this recipe. Thank you all so very much! 😋💖🙏
Again, Love your videos and your family. James has had a growth spurt for sure! I like the idea of him cooking and you and Tara do the taste testing. Love a good Monte Cristo.
I make sandwiches similar to this but never knew they had a name. I only make something like that when I’m extremely hungry but don’t really want to cook. TFS.
We make this recipe as a modified club sandwich. We make the french toast first; then prep the layers with gruyere and broil in the oven until melted. We add raspberry compote on the top bread at the end. Wickedly decadent.
My favorite sandwich! I don’t recall it having turkey, but it’s been years since I’ve had one. Kudos on the raspberry jam! That’s the best dip for this sandwich. I order a raspberry jam/jalapeno jam from Amazon that I make wine with. Definitely time for another Monte Cristo 😋
You can buy commercial bread pre-sliced in thick slabs; it's called Texas toast. Meijer is one of the grocers in my area, and they carry 2 brands: Aunt Millie's and Lewis Bake Shop.
My all time favorite sandwich. We had a restaurant here in Memphis called Fred Gaines. It is all I ever ordered there. Served with their own multi berry jam. Oh My! So very good! Bennigan's in Memphis also has a good one.
If you love sweet and savory, this sandwich is for you! The ingredient amounts (also in grams) are right in the description and the print recipe is linked there as well. As always, thanks for liking our recipes and videos and sharing our family table each week.
I've never had a Monte Cristo but savory and sweet is right up my alley! ❤😊
I thought I did everything right but I am not sure. The outside of my sandwich was not crispy enough so I put it in the oven and flipped it to get it hotter and crispier. It was excellent but I will bet it wasn't as good as yours!
Any other jam options? I was thinking about blueberry
I love James! What a great kid! This entire video is so positive. I don't know how old James is, but he expresses himself with a clarity that many adults today do not have. When he says, "I love this." it makes your heart sing.
James is 12...
@@oaklakeman Are you sure? He looks 15
(Trouble is) Every time I watch ur vids I want to scrap whatever I already had planned and MAKE THIS. Looks awesome !!!
Same here!!
Could not have said it better😊
your son is getting tall!! He is well spoken and adorable!! We have had a fun bonus of watching him grow up ....xoxxox
💯 agree. He seems like a great kid.
James is a genius! I love his idea of him hosting/cooking a recipe!!
Also LOVE it with a Peach Jam and/or Orange Marmalade. Try adding Sweet and/ or spicy pickled cherry-pepper rings to sandwich ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Well, now you've got to tell us what your #1 sandwich is.
tabasco and/or horseradish. mmm.
You could also add instead some dijon mustard to the cranberry jam ! That would be Cumberland sauce ! Also spicy and sweet! Oh sorry ! Other way round: sweet and spicy ! @@houngandave
That's awesome. Would you share what your other top 10 are?
Edit: seeing in replies other people are wondering. Now ya gotta do it!
I'm a firm believer that mise en place helps make cooking an enjoyable, stress free experience.
And a James episode would be great!
Have not had one of these in 45 years. You have reminded my tastebuds !
dang i remember when this channel was like 80K, james got big
I found him around 1K… amazing how quickly he grew. Very impressive…
I think it’s all because of his ‘taste tester’! I’m enjoying watching James grow up!
Oh my goodness, the taste tester had me at the sound of that crunch of his first bite. I’ve never had this before! Seriously yumalicious! Thank you, it’s on my list of must haves.

this family is so wholesome. I love the recipes, but the interactions at the end keep me watching till the credits.
Definitely need an episode with James cooking! These look incredible as always, Jim!
Liked just for the "french toast with coldcuts". Also, daaaaaaaamn that first bite crunch. Perfect!
Yep. I worked at a deli for a while, and Boar's Head is easily the best for its price range. Thanks for sharing!

Your channel is single handedly teaching me to cook 🥹💪
James is adorable ❤
What a fine young man
Congratulations to his wonderful parents
Jim and Tara
Love that wholesome family vibes
I LOVEEEEEEE sandwiches and sandwich videos! I love this channel and your sweet family working together. I just wish the videos were longer coz I can't get enough lol!❤❤❤
James, that's a great idea you had....Dad has to video and you and Mom cook 💯
I'm a total believer in mis en place 🙂
As a chef friend of mine once said - “ Mis en Place - saves my a** “ 😊 - he worked in an 2* Michelin restaurant
Nice crunch with James's first bite.
So cute, this family.... Thanks for showing this, certainly a favorite!
@SipandFeast I love that you're branching out and doing recipes outside the Italian umbrella, been enjoying your videos for the past couple years. Helped me get more in touch with my heritage.

Can’t wait for James’s spaghetti and hot dogs!
Your ‘taste tester’ is almost as tall as you Dad!! I remember when he was just a wee sprout! 😂😂
I love Monte Cristo sandwiches at a restaurant, but I really just need to make them at home sometime. Your son definitely needs to cook for us! 💙
A great recipe and you put a smile on my face … winner winner!
One of the many things I enjoy on this channel is the Long Island way you talk. After a lifetime in Jersey and working often on LI, here in FL you sound like home. So when you added an "r" to the end of "spatula" I was over the moon. Plus the sandwich looks mighty fine.
You're the best Jim!! This is one of my top 4 sammiches. Reuben Cuban Muffaletta and the Monte
This channel is so awesome.
I like the " roughly exactly" kinda measuring too. Makes the food taste way better.
Thanks for all the great content...
Baking some brioche bread right now to make this tonight!!! I have watched over a dozen spins on this and I think your son is right!! Can't wait to dig in!! Let him cook I would love to see it!!!
When you flip the sandwiches, make sure there's butter underneath! If not add more butter. That way both sides will look and cook the same.
Best compliments when your kids say 'I love it!'. And a 10 on top! I will definitely try this, thank you for sharing, your videos are always lovely to watch and learn from! 🥪🥪🥪

Hawaiian bread would be amazing!
Going to try this. We used to go to Bennigans a couple times a year for their Monte Cristo. I miss that.
This is my FAVORITE restaurant sandwich -- but usually fully battered and deep fried -- so I'll be trying this at home!
To the Taste Tester; I’ve been thinking exactly your suggestion! Go for it, you’ve got my vote 😂
Like the idea of butter in a pan. Results are just as good as original recipe but better for you.
Going to make this for my husband who loves them, somehow your process looks doable and delicious. Miss the podcasts
First and only time I had a Monte Cristo sandwich was at a restaurant in the 'Sears Tower' in Chicago. Long time ago.. Thank you for sharing the recipe! Now I know to make myself, what a treat.

Would you ever consider a live broadcast where we could ask questions ? I think a lot of people would like that
The only thing I might do a bit differently, is put the cheese between the turkey and ham. Just happens to make a nice internal thermometer, cheese is soft/ melty, it's probably done. Great vid, and a good idea by James. Switch thing up.
the best cooking channel on youtube.
that looks really good.... i think i would put one slice on each of the bread pieces so it 'sandwiches' the meat. i like the idea of the jam.... good idea.

I worked in restaurants for years and this guys "has it." That is, you can tell he's "been there." Good job. My wife's favorite sandwich. Thanks!
I never knew how to make these. thank you.
The Monte Cristo sandwich is a true delight. The combination of sweet and savory is just perfect.
I love their dynamic.
If this channel gets anymore wholesome I'm gonna knit a damn sweater that says "Right Now." on it
Ain't it the truth!! ❤
Exactly as I make them - except I put one slice of cheese on the bottom, and one on top. Thanks for the video, and now I have to make them for dinner tonight!
It looks delicious. You can hear the crispness
Monte Cristos and Reubens... my two absolute most favorite sandwiches! Yum! Looks wonderful. Will do this on the weekend. 💗💗
My absolutely favorite sandwich. Benaginns had the best. I like it deep fried
It's a classic knife n forker sandwich. And my localised version of a nation-wide grocer in Alaska has several varieties of gruyere on offer. I'm glad the U.S. is finally getting to the point of having more than american, cheddar and low moisture mozzerelle on a regular basis.
I’ll do this one. I love the recipes.
Sourdough bread makes it even better.
Montes are my absolute favorite sandwich! I haven’t had one in a long time, you really don’t see them on diner menus anymore. Def will make this at home!
One of my all-time favorite sandwiches. Thanks!
WOW - looks awesome! Almost want one - but... Oh how I hated having to make these all summer working at a golf resort kitchen.
Nothing but smiles watching this. Adorable family!!
I've never heard of that kind of sandwich, probably not something I would eat but it was sure fun to watch👍😊👍
That "crunch" sold me. Great job.
My spouse would love this sandwich. Thanks for the great tutorial. We live rurally so don’t always have the best quality cold cuts, but we’re going to try this. 💜

My favorite sandwich ever; TYFS! James! Love your episode idea with the changing places!
So cute… I used to LOOVE that sandwich at 3am,in a Restaurant in San Francisco, after a long night working in the night clubs…the good ol’ days!
Get this guy on the Food Channel with a show!
Absolutely marvelous sandwich. Thank you.
I knew it! He is going for your job! Watch your back!
I have made M.C. sandwiches from a video on UA-cam of BENNIGAN'S (I used to love their M.C. sandwiches before they closed up) and it turned out great. I am going to try your recipe soon because I LOVE them! Thanks!
One of my favorites!❤️ There is an amazing deli in Palm Springs that puts a fried egg on theirs. It’s so good!
This is one of my favorite get it all the time at the diner. Looks delicious 😋
Thank you. I like your version. My favorite sandwich.
Looks amazing, hope you hit 1 mil subs soon!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the video and recipe! Thank you, James, for the great switch-up-video idea! That would be a wonderful to see! I've tried this type of sandwich with using a wet batter and it turned out pretty good, but I am definitely going to try this recipe. Thank you all so very much! 😋💖🙏
Love the family dynamic
Great recipe❣️
Never heard of this sandwich. Looks amazing. Mmmmm
Again, Love your videos and your family. James has had a growth spurt for sure! I like the idea of him cooking and you and Tara do the taste testing. Love a good Monte Cristo.
Thin slices of cold cuts are a must for any sandwich
I make sandwiches similar to this but never knew they had a name. I only make something like that when I’m extremely hungry but don’t really want to cook. TFS.

Thank you. One of my favorite sandwiches. Carolyn from Maryland
Love this sandwich. I'm a sandwich guy. This is on my top 5. They have, I get. Everytime.
That's one hearty sandwich! Love it!
I love Monte Cristo's! Especially w/Maple Syrup or a good Fruit Jam.
"a spatuler", love it!
Great recipe and cannot wait for the Sloppy Joe's. One of my favorites.
Your son has grown so much! I haven't watched your videos in years.
