      Sure the latter helped with building the defense against Wally, but the former prevented him from being manipulated by Wally like everyone else. A being that thrives upon social deception and creating seeds of doubt could not find an entrance with someone with no inclination towards socialization and is very sure of their choices

    About the "names give power" part, I think it's because a name would give an identity, and therefore would lead to more personality. Something like how nier handles its android names, if dagath had a name she would've felt more like an individual instead of a part of the body of dax warriors. Something to think about.
    Also, I love how long the umbra section is.

    • @hambor12
      @hambor12 3 місяці тому +4

      as mentioned above, i do think that’s kind of true but it’s less magic and more that the Orokin were so monumentally cruel that even the slightest bit of metaphorical “power”, the agency and individuality to give meaning to an attachment, was privilege that even the Dax were not deserving of.
      To the Orokin, a Dax had as much agency as a household appliance and as much as you can humanize a fridge or a car… at the end of the day they are not “human”. You do not expect your car to form bonds or have hobbies or wants and needs.
      Still, one needs to look at the origin of the term “fragging” to see why disregarding the humanity of your subordinates is a bad idea.

    8:50 I think with Dagath's story and the Orokin couple's rule about naming is less about power in the "magic sense" and more in the Power Dynamic sense. For the Orokin couple, The Dax that would become Dagath was their taboo little toy whose appeal was inherently because she was a Dax, a lowly bodyguard with forbidden "steamy" allure. And because she was but a servant, she obediently followed orders and played the role of this "forbidden romance partner". Her value was not as an individual but as an embodiment of a trope, a gross simplification of a character. Adding things like attachments and wants and needs outside of the assigned "role" Dagath was unnecessary complications.
    This is probably also why the Orokin couple threw Dagath away when she was turned into a warframe. There was no "danger" to their relationship, the Orokin couple figured. Yes, she'd already been doing nothing but Follow Orders to begin with but ironically it was only interesting to them when there was a Power Dynamic of a lower class servant and a royal couple. Now it was just a royal couple and their very expensive sex doll. It wasn't fun if it wasn't taboo.

      I definitely appreciate the points made here! It's an interesting theory! Thank you for your contribution to the library!

    • @WesternXC
      @WesternXC Місяць тому +3

      Yes I agree the Orokin couple only liked Dagath because it was taboo when she was a Dax warrior. Once she became a Warframe it wasn’t taboo anymore and they lost interest. Also, her Warframe face freaked them out because it was always smiling.

    • @thedoomslayer5863
      @thedoomslayer5863 6 днів тому

      Also there's the question that I'm sure R34 would love to answer being, how do you "copulate" with a Warframe? Can you even do that? And if it were possible wouldn't you risk becoming infected?
      And depending on the official answers to such questions our Wisp Warframe may end up serving......other purposes......

    Mild note on Parvos and the Corpus. The Orokin *never* like Corpus, they tolerated them since they became to big of a conglomerate for them to just squash. It's part of why Ballas made Vauban, as in his respective prime trailer. Protea was a reluctant capitulation from the Orokin, the reason why of currently unknown.

    • @LuckyTheReviewer
      @LuckyTheReviewer 28 днів тому +3

      If I'm remembering correctly, Protea was created as part of a deal between the Orokin and Parvos. Parvis had created Specters and the Orokin wanted the tech so Parvos made a deal in that, in exchange for the Specter tech, he would get a Warframe made with his design, as we found out in Protea Prime's video.
      So similar to Caliban, Protea has two creators: Ballas who made her and Parvos who came up with the design for her.

    I like to think that the lore is a strong component of why the Warframe community is one of the most kind and giving communities in gaming.
    Sure the background, almost subconscious thought of saving someone the horrid grind you personally went through is there, but i think, underneath it all, Its because we know that the characters and warframes we love,
    from the sassy "must be hard being poor" snark from Baro,
    to the "Be better than the you of yesterday" harsh lessons from Teshin,
    right down to the "you cant keep me down" attitude of the Vent Kids
    want us to be the best version of ourselves we can achieve.
    To be the best Tenno you can, you help others (Sevagoth, Inaros, Rell/Harrow, Jade probably, Neewa (not a warframe but you get the idea))
    To be the best Tenno you can, you grow and learn from your past decisions trauma and mistakes (Voruna, Lavos, Umbra, Stalker)
    To be the best Tenno you can, you sacrifice your own happiness for the joy or safety of someone else (Citrine, and many others) (Please dont give your life for things, youre human, not a godlike machine-zombie hybrid)
    To be the best Tenno you can, you dont let injustice and immorality pass by when you can do something to stop it (Mag, Grendel)
    To be the best Tenno you can, you do the best YOU can to see the future you want come to life (Gauss, Limbo)
    No one is asking you to do the impossible. Warframe teaches you to do what you can, and the Tenno just happen to be really damn good at what they do.
    Warframe and its lore subconsciously teaches its community to be Heroes. Even if only a little. Even if only in a video game.
    And I think thats cool.

    Voruna was ment to guard the tower and be obedient to that Orokin guy (i don't remember his name so let's call him Greg). But all the continuity shenanigans happened and turned out Greg wanted to use a Tenno sleeping in a cryopod as the vessel, Voruna feeling a connection to the child and wanted to protect it killing Greg and then she used the Kuva on herself to bring back the doggos, after that it's described that Voruna felt the connection to the child and took it with her, cradling it in her arms as she left.

    I feel like there's something really misunderstood about Lavos' story, or at least how it's told in this video, and I don't know if it's just me reading too much into it.
    From my perspective in the story, it's not that Javi whispered non-sense to Lavos, scribbling on the wall and Lavos suddenly figuring it out, it's that Lavos was getting taught how to use alchemy and transmutation by Javi himself in order to defect.
    The way it's told that Lavos was extremely punctual, beatings, food and water, all at the same time each day, much like a student going to class, the beatings being a disguise, Javi getting brutally beat but knowing that that was the only way it'd work and wouldn't raise suspicion, which is SO METAL and cool and gives their story such depth.
    And also Lavos' syandana in the Leverian literally calling Javi and Lavos teacher and student respectively and that Javi was teaching Lavos.

    For a fun breadcrumb trail, read some of Parvos early lore fragments about how/where he got the idea to found the Corprus. Consider that Protea's powers only transport people to places they've already been. And really pay attention when the Captain lady is "rescued" to what you hear and what you don't see. And that Loid mentions having to defend the Sanctum from Parvos "thugs" in the past.

    Dagath, im pretty sure, is based on a Celtic faery called a Dullahan, think the grim reaper meets headless horseman except this faery carries it head by its side as it rides through the night. The idea that knowing something's true name gives you power over it is a theme in Celtic myth. Youre never supposed to tell a member of the fae your real name as it could let them place a hex on you or do any number of evil things. You're never supposed to make deals with them either cause despite what they promise, making a deal with them is either like a Monkey's paw thing or they'll always want your first born child. While I don't have any theories to add to this smorgasbord of lore, I do want to shout out two honorary Tenno from other works:
    Hayden Tenno - darkSector: Literally the Tenno's namesake from a meta perspective as they took their name from Hayden's surname (and the Japanese word roughly meaning "Heavenly Emperor", which is also the honorific used for Japan's Emperor), Hayden Tenno was a CIA Agent sent to investigate a mysterious plague in the fictional nation of Lasria that he winds up infected with, eventually becoming a powerful armor set for him. That armor wound up in Warframe as the Proto-Armor Skin for Excalibur, and a boss from darkSector also became a unique skin for Nyx. Prior to a few retcons, Hayden Tenno was also said to have been the first Tenno by DE; it looks like Warframe 1999 is going to be a redo of darkSector's modern Earth setting, redressed so that Arthur is Hayden's equivalent.
    Firefly - Honkai: Star Rail: Firefly is likely one of the first examples of Warframe being used as a reference point in designing a character's lore and backstory. Firefly is an adorable little cutie patootie (...Sorry) who is one of the few, if not only, survivors of the Iron Knights of Glamoth, superpowered artificial humans created to defend Glamoth from the Swarms of Tayzzyronth, Aeon of The Propagation (think one of HSR's Gods), using powerful armor suits known as Strategic Assault Mechas, or SAMs; kind of like how the Tenno were used by the Orokin to defend Origin from the Sentients via using their Warframes to channel their Void powers. The effort the Iron Knights went through to save Glamoth ultimately failed, though, and Glamoth fell to the fell bugs of The Propagation while Firefly fled into interstellar space; eventually coming into contact with the mysterious Elio who offered to give her a purpose in life if she worked for him as an agent of the criminal organization known as the Stellaron Hunters. Under the Stellaron Hunters, Firefly would use her SAM, a cross between a Kamen Rider, a Tekkaman, the Turn A Gundam, and a masculine version of the Warframe Ember to wreak utter havoc and devastation but she was always frustrated by this as she wanted to be more - think of her as a post-Old War Tenno but without the Lotus to guide her - eventually leading Elio to direct her to go to the planet Penacony where she would wind up meeting the Nameless, followers of Akivili, Aeon of The Trailblaze and the group HSR's player-character, the Trailblazer, belongs to, and forge some genuine friendships with the group, especially the Trailblazer. Oh, also, Firefly is sick like the Tenno but instead of rampant Void poisoning she deals with something called "Entropy Loss Syndrome", a disease built in to the Iron Cavalry's human components by the Glamothian leadership so as to not have to rehabilitate them after the Swarm had been dealt with that basically means she experiences time more slowly and eventually will just fade from existence as Creation moves on without her.

    What a great way to end a video. Way to make me cry (again).
    "Sacrifice" really was a game changer. It's such a specific turning point, a huge shift for gaming (I think) and for how I approach games/stories. DE is really out here writing some of the best lore, weaving in all kinds of emotional and philosophical themes.
    And yeah, the game is still a runny-shooty-flippy sci-fi power fantasy, but the warframes themselves are also kind of like a wish fulfillment, being a big damn hero. Maybe we'll never do anything as heroic or cool as we see in game, but there's still some lessons you can take out of the game. Simple stuff, like being kind, being dependable, and don't be a podcaster or create bioweapons.

  • @sirith9157
    @sirith9157 3 місяці тому +4

    Warframe is one of the most wildest rides you can have in the world of gaming industry.
    At first it's a confusing mess, as you get hold of the systems, combat and the cycle of constantly upgrading your gear...
    But then something hit you. You learn about the story of this world, you're being constantly questioned if whatever you're doing is right. Why things like wrath are considered a "good" or "white" choice, while emptiness or lack of emotions is considered "black" choice.
    And in some quests you're hit even more. Warframe's aren't just robots or meat puppets condemned in metal coffins. They were all people. They were humans... With shattered minds, tortured beyond imagination, shunned for whatever they were at this specific point in time. It's this type of things which made us rethink some things. Was it right? Are we the good guys? Was it even worth it?
    Yes, I'm talking about the game where you slaughter enemies by millions. Burn them, decapitate them, crush, send into different reality of melt into biological pulp.
    These are these little stories which made us sit down and think: "Maybe small acts of kindness, having someone open up to you, care for you. Maybe knowing you're not alone is enough... And maybe all we need is just hope."

The only point I was iffy on is Harrow because (and correct me if i'm wrong) iirc the Harrow frame itself is of unknown origins and was believed to be a gift from Wally to Rell only for it to later become their prison. I think it's in the lore entry or somewhere around (it's been a long time) that mentions Harrow was already ON the Zariman something that shouldn't have even been feasible at the time given the warframe timeline and just showed how otherworldly and powerful Wally really was.
    Edit: also as a lore nut extremely excited for Jade's release. Can't wait to get more info on the stalker and to learn just how/why theres now a stalker....for the stalker.

    I have a theory, might be wrong might have holes but here it is.
    Parvos is the Man in the wall, or at least one of them.
    We see the Man in the wall who looks like us sitting in the chair at the end of Whispers in the wall quest. Another entity that looks like Albrecth Entrati then stands next to him, and we learned that was actually the Man in the wall who followed Albrecht into 1999, and apparently came back. So now there were 2 of them.
    When Parvos extends his hand to the Sister, we hear his voice distorted and the music is the theme of the Man in the wall, also giving out the hand kinda shows it too. Lastly in Operation Belly of the Beast, Parvos reveals he understands Voidtongue, and understood it naturally when he heard it. Plus he was in the void for how many years?
    Rambling over, thanks.

    About the Inaros story: there was an event where Alad V wanted to take Mars and experiment on a Warframe he found there. But we could also side with the Grineer in taking Mars to prevent Alad from getting his hands on the Warframe with the trade off being that the Grineer would Exterminate every colony on Mars... And well we sided with the Grineer... And with Inaros not there to protect them, we were kinda responsible for the deaths of Baro's people...

    Umbras quest is something else, despite all of the warframes lore and how they become one, umbra shows the true torture that happens, which with the 1999 update and proto frames, is interesting to see how would go forward

    One thing to note about Gara(besides her name, you actually got it right before you corrected yourself, it's pronounced with a long a) is that we know why she's the glass warframe, and it's actually surprisingly wholesome.
    Essentially the woman who would become Gara volunteered herself to become a Warframe, knowing the truth. Nihil called for her to be glassed, essentially punishing her "for her presumption". Ballas took all this and used it as inspiration for her design. To honor her sacrifice he "encased her in crystal most fine" i.e. made her into the glass warframe.

    I like how Dagath doesn't have a face as a copy. Like we the Tenno, did not look for the original schematics for Dagath, but instead settled on the damaged one. Imagine what power she had before then.

      I love how for every other frame I had some meme audio or general background noise, but for Umbra I was like "Nah, it's got to be his yell, there's nothing else that can go here."
