Really enjoyable video. Thank you! I lived in a cabin near a tide flats in Sitka, AK. There was an old tom cat who would comb the flats for dead fish. I saw an Eagle swoop down and grab him. Before the Eagle got more than a few feet off the tide flats that old cat managed to twist in the grip of the Eagle’s talons and swipe the Eagle with his paw. The cat fell was deposited in about a foot of water. I ran out of the cabin and was able to grab the cat before he was able to run away. The eagle must not have gotten a good grip on the cat because the cat only had a few minor scratches. I did witness a few Seagulls who were not so lucky with their encounter with an Eagle.

@@mvfreedom Very cool, we have a place on the south end of Lopez and we are there almost every weekend in the summer crabbing. I will keep my eyes open for you guy's. Happy sailing
Thanks. I have been to this area several times but have never been on Sucia. I have friend who owns part of South Finger Island. Have climbed around on it quite a bit but we never went over to Sucia. Maybe on my next trip.....

Shawn, you are a really good Captain, I've learned several things as I binge watch Y'alls videos. Sorry to hear about Sandy. Although I'm new to watching your channel I noticed the intro with her but not seeing her in the videos i watched. Really enjoy watching the videos you post. BE safe
The name Sucia was coined by the Spanish captain Eliza, in his map of 1791. He called it Sucia, because the coast was full of stubble and had reefs. (Wikipedia).
Thank you! Loved the scenery. Don't own a boat. Too old to start. But born in Victoria so love the islands (Gulf Islands and San Juan Islands) Spent childhood summer afternoons on some of them. They are really the same archipelago. European royalty drew the border line between them.
Thank you for the video, it was great. My girlfriend and I are going to spend a night at Sucia in 2 weeks and I was wondering if you had a recommendation for mooring in Echo or Fossil Bay and why? Thank you!!
At 2:00, "Ironing the sheets ?! Who's gonna see 'em?" My wife when I wash the sheets. Great get away your channel is for those of us that can't. Thank You Both !
Dear Elizabeth, dear Shawn Thanks for another interesting video. We saw how Shawn masters navigation devices and how Elizabeth is a perfect navigation pilot. All so far in very calm waters. To go around the world you will have to learn to navigate in more open seas, don't you think?
Jose Carlos Alvarez Tobar yes we’ve been in some rough patches on the Pacific coast of Vancouver Island and very choppy seas in the Strait, but unfortunately during those times we don’t have much energy to get the camera rolling. If we head to Oregon this summer we’ll capture more of those seas.
Elizabeth.....you look so good at the helm. Fun to see you play with the instruments. Mr Sully is so cute. You make my day watching your neat videos. Thanks for sharing. (Forget the comments from the haters on the islands, they are selfish)
So sorry to officially learn about Sandy. I've been wondering but didn't want to ask as I've been through it 2x. I'm glad you keep her in the intro. Do you think you'll get another dog to keep Sully company while you're away from the boat. Some say dogs live longer if they have a dog friend to hang with.
NY Don thank you! We are looking for a little partner for Sully because he loves a buddy to play with, so maybe by 2021 there’ll be a new crew member! Sandy will always be the #1 boat dog of course!
@@mvfreedom Well, let me know if I need to send one of my West Coast Lieutenants, I mean Capos, or Associates, make that friends out to rough up, I mean have a courdial conversation with Shawn to mandate, er explain the benefits of getting a 2nd dog for both you and Sully. lol
I agree with pressing sheets. I have N43 035, and keep my ironing board in the salon bench. I found using a cordless iron to be easiest. Making the bed is a bad wrestling match, I am thinking about having a duvet made, as it would be easier to make.

Stay well! 😀
I agree with your assessment of the "other" boating couples. Most of them are wrapped up in the boat, not the destination. I do like the lessons in this episode, but really enjoyed the tender ride, location, and the hike.
I will be sending this vid to my son and partner as I gently teach them how to use my boat. Even though I have another electonics MFD system, the concept of - "the information you want is in there somewhere" - is helpful as a gentle tutorial. Now about that eagle took a deer story, its true but not as you understand it. I personally believe your dog is too big for a Bald Eagle. Where I live in Qualicum Beach (Vancouver Island) an area that is inundated with many Bald Eagles and dog owners with very small dogs, smaller than yours, who are totally oblivious to an eagle taking their dog, I have not heard of one dog being taken by an eagle. I do wonder about cougars, Vancouver Island has the highest concentration of cougars in the wild throughout the world. I have heard of two stories of cougars and dogs here in my area. Now back to the eagle and the deer. I am almost 100 % certain that eagle that took the deer was a Golden Eagle. I have a short video at the end of a Golden Eagle taking down a deer. There is another video of a Golden Eagle taking down a goat that was on the side of a cliff that I have not linked to. ua-cam.com/video/D1u438JAOSo/v-deo.html And here is a map of the habitat of the Golden Eagle: www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Golden_Eagle/maps-range

My aunt's Pomeranian was almost picked up by a bird of some kind right in our back yard one time. She said she saw it coming down out of the tree right towards the dog so she ran out the door and scared it away. She hasn't let her dog go outside alone ever since. Lol.
Awesome, i hadnt done this run in 40 years. Just seeing if anyone made one of these! How are facilities at sucia? Restrooms still closed? And my kingdom for an ice maker.
I may have sent this before at the time of Sandy's passing, but for Shawn's peace of mind here it is again. “Some of you, particularly those who think they have recently lost a dog to ‘death’, don’t really understand this. I’ve had no desire to explain, but won’t be around forever and must. Dogs never die. They don’t know how to. They get tired, and very old, and their bones hurt. Of course they don’t die. If they did they would not want to always go for a walk, even long after their old bones say: ‘No, no, not a good idea. Let’s not go for a walk.’ Nope, dogs always want to go for a walk. They might get one step before their aging tendons collapse them into a heap on the floor, but that’s what dogs are. They walk. It’s not that they dislike your company. On the contrary, a walk with you is all there is. Their boss, and the symphony of odor that the world is. Cat poop, another dog’s mark, a rotting chicken bone (exultation), and you. That’s what makes their world perfect, and in a perfect world death has no place. However, dogs get very very sleepy. That’s the thing, you see. They don’t teach you that at the fancy university where they explain about quarks, gluons, and Keynesian economics. They know so much they forget that dogs never die. It’s a shame, really. Dogs have so much to offer and people just talk a lot. When you think your dog has died, it has just fallen asleep in your heart. And by the way, it is wagging its tail madly, you see, and that’s why your chest hurts so much and you cry all the time. Who would not cry with a happy dog wagging its tail in their chest. Ouch! Wap wap wap wap wap, that hurts. But they only wag when they wake up. That’s when they say: ‘Thanks Boss! Thanks for a warm place to sleep and always next to your heart, the best place.’ When they first fall asleep, they wake up all the time, and that’s why, of course, you cry all the time. Wap, wap, wap. After a while they sleep more. (remember, a dog while is not a human while. You take your dog for walk, it’s a day full of adventure in an hour. Then you come home and it’s a week, well one of your days, but a week, really, before the dog gets another walk. No WONDER they love walks.) Anyway, like I was saying, they fall asleep in your heart, and when they wake up, they wag their tail. After a few dog years, they sleep for longer naps, and you would too. They were a GOOD DOG all their life, and you both know it. It gets tiring being a good dog all the time, particularly when you get old and your bones hurt and you fall on your face and don’t want to go outside to pee when it is raining but do anyway, because you are a good dog. So understand, after they have been sleeping in your heart, they will sleep longer and longer. But don’t get fooled. They are not ‘dead.’ There’s no such thing, really. They are sleeping in your heart, and they will wake up, usually when you’re not expecting it. It’s just who they are. I feel sorry for people who don’t have dogs sleeping in their heart. You’ve missed so much. Excuse me, I have to go cry now.”
Harvey604 Journeyman she’s not asleep in our hearts at all, she’s very much a part of our daily lives and likes to tell us about her AYCE chicken buffets after hours of swimming at her new place 🐶
DaddyKarn we crab although haven’t in a couple of years. Maybe this summer we’ll get back since the population isn’t as sparse as a couple of years ago.
I am not a boater but I enjoy these videos. In the beginning of this video, I assumed the autopilot was in control. Sean asked Elizabeth about that sailboat ahead on the starboard side and she said her course of action would be to steer to port. If the autopilot was in control, would it make the same course correction?
Autopilot will actually do a little more than cruise control (boats already have that, you set the throttle where you want and let go all all things being equal it will hold its speed). It will "hold" the vessel to the heading you point it at - but it won't avoid a dang thing which is why she's still sitting there "on watch" - so she can"watch" what's going on. 🙂
I expect you could buy a collision avoidance software linking radar to autopilot for a lot of money. But radar can’t see logs, kayaks, rafts, whales, etc., so you still need some one on watch always. Therefore expensive equipment to avoid running in to a large boat or ship isn’t that helpful.
Don't get me wrong; I've always enjoyed Elizabeth's narration, but recently have grown to really appreciate Shawn's comments. Thanks so much for sharing your lives and travels.

Love ur video
Hey, Shawn. Nice Superman curl.
Thanks for a warm place to sleep and always next to your heart, the best place.’
When they first fall asleep, they wake up all the time, and that’s why, of course, you cry all the time. Wap, wap, wap. After a while they sleep more. (remember, a dog while is not a human while. You take your dog for walk, it’s a day full of adventure in an hour. Then you come home and it’s a week, well one of your days, but a week, really, before the dog gets another walk. No WONDER they love walks.)
Anyway, like I was saying, they fall asleep in your heart, and when they wake up, they wag their tail.
Eagles eyeing a fresh Sully sully snack.
I was wondering about Sandy....sorry to hear she passed away.
You want to see a crazy current? Go check out Deception Pass on the north side of Whidbey island.
I didn’t know that Patrick Warburton quit his acting job, changed his name to Shaun and bought a boat.
I am very curious about something. Do either of you or both of you ever do any fishing or crabbing?
FYI: My kiddos and I so much love Mr. Sully....
DaddyKarn we crab although haven’t in a couple of years. Maybe this summer we’ll get back since the population isn’t as sparse as a couple of years ago.
Did you guys pull into the Port of Edmonds about 6:30, Tuesday the 16th?
No that must’ve been a twin Nordy
@@mvfreedom Thanks.
Do you plan a trip out to Port Angeles?
Tim Morrissey we’ve only been once checking back into the US, but possibly this summer if borders don’t reopen.
I am not a boater but I enjoy these videos. In the beginning of this video, I assumed the autopilot was in control. Sean asked Elizabeth about that sailboat ahead on the starboard side and she said her course of action would be to steer to port. If the autopilot was in control, would it make the same course correction?
no. autopilots are like cruise control in cars.
Ironing your your bed sheets? Humm, that’s not odd. 😂
you mean you're supposed to iron sheets? geez, i dont even iron my clothes!!!
I wonder if they iron their socks too....
Rod Buster 🤣🤣🤣
@@sugershakify ~ wait... are you saying you DON'T iron your socks!!???!! 😉😄
So sorry for the loss of your dog. Have you ever considered a boat cat
No, we’re more dog people
Do you have to worry about bad guys trying to rob you and how do you defend yourself from them?
I must of missed a few episodes. What happened to their other dog?
She passed away in Dec at nearly 14 years old.
What was above your right shoulder (in the sky) when you were talking about the eagle?
that's maybe a spot on the camera lens...
Its a UFO. LOL
put a heading sensor like an hs60 and get MARPA.
I am so sorry about sandy. I didn't knew she passed away.
Have a great Memorial Day Weekend 2021 : D
