- What is Polystyrene? How is Styrofoam made? From packaging, to cups, to food storage to construction, Polystyrene is used within many industries. However, what makes polystyrene so great is also what makes it so terrible for the environment. It breaks apart and sheds mirco plastics everywhere.

I have been processing Polystyrene by hand for the purposes of thermoforming applications for two years now. The material we use, while polystyrene, is not styrofoam. It's high-impact sheets of foam-core plastic. I have been breathing in the dust and fumes for two years, 60 - 80 hours a week.
I now have stage 2 Lymphoma.

Your title is misleading. Your video is about Styrofoam and only Styrofoam which is EPS foam. Polystyrene itself is a completely different topic. It's a material not a product.
Your use of the word polystyrene in the title would be like me making a video titled "Lithium" but then the video only shows lithium batteries.

@@brianbeakmann4065 No. EPS is made USING polystyrene. Hence the name Expanded Polystyrene Foam. Read my original post, again. Another comparison: Making a video titled "What are tomatoes? Why ketchup is TERRIBLE!" Then making the entire video about ketchup but never talking about the tomatoes, themselves. 🤷
@@brianbeakmann4065 I know this. I used to work for a chemical plant which makes HIPS (High Impact PolyStyrene) and GPPS (General Purpose PolyStyrene). What is your point? You have yet to make one.
How about breathing it like when the guy is sawing it ? Will this damage your lungs ?
Most materials are both great and awful. Polystyrene is great at what it does but if mishandled becomes a problem.
Any ideas why most if the countries have banned polystyrene but yet some country doesn’t ? (For example the very advanced country Singapore)
It just varies by each countries politics. We hope in the future all countries will ban certain materials.
