I built a crystal radio with my brother when I was 12. He went off to war and I never got to see him again. I'm now 47 and I still have that simple little radio. I miss him so much.
Being a Radio Amateur for 51 years, I can relate to this repair/project. built a few of those single stage recievers myself. spot on with the tube check, coil repair etc. well done and I'm sure the Mom would have been thrilled to have heard it once again but so glad her daughter and granddaugher were able to see and hear it. ECF
Very sad to hear that Rosemary didn't have the opportunity to see it restored. But glad the family will be able to keep listening to it. And keep all those special memories alive.
this brought tears to my eyes, its a huge wrench parting with a mother, the loss is immeasurable and you lose a part of yourself when you lose them. Im so sad for you losing her in the midst of the repair. I hope the radio comforts you a little. 😢❤
It’s so good that she was able to place her father in the history of the German occupation of that tiny part of these islands: many people in every occupied country collaborated, went along to get along, with an evil regime. To hear it from someone who was there, and who remembers it, and who gives their testament linked to the physical evidence of resistance, is important.
First time watching this channel, & what an auspicious introduction. My condolences to this family in their time of loss. A little piece of one family history, reinstated. A consideration that perhaps Rosemary was not far away on that day - Thank you ! 🙂
I'm sorry to hear that her Mother Rosemary died and she didn't get to see the radio working...I lost my Big Sister Rose in May and my Best Friend Micha in July so I understand how they are feeling. My Condolences to them both 😢

Well, the Repair Shop manages to ruin another historical artifact. This radio in its original state should have been studied by a professional and then placed in a museum to be enjoyed by others with a context explanation. Now it will sit on a shelf in someone's home. It will sit on the shelf admired by few, in its reworked and inaccurate form. Before you take on another project like this, please consider the object's historical value over television ratings.
It's not special. It's a war time crystal radio. There's thousands upon thousands out there and many have very similar back stories. There isn't much to study "he made a standard crystal radio" like literally that's all it is, it's the same as many many others. The value here is to the family and their attachment to it.

Oh what war if it was 35 years ago. Sorry I’m a bit confused.
@@sugarkane4830 Most likely Gulf War One from the early 90's.

What a wonderful piece of history for this family to have during the loss of Rosemary!
😢 I'd like to think that Rosemary and her Father watched that reveal together from Heaven!
God bless her. 😢
Guck God

There is always something on the Repair Shop show that always chokes me up. I watch it in Canada.
Who carries it in Canada? I couldn't find it on Acorn or Britbox.

I'm so sad for them but the radio and the history of it will continue.
This is the best programme ever. I could watch it round the clock.
Sorry that rosemary passed..glad you were able to restore it
Why?
And now I'm crying.
Love this programme. The skills these people possess and their sensitivity is a joy to witness.
Nice to see the battery covers I created ages ago are still being printed out and used today.
So sorry to hear that Rosemary passed away before she got to see the radio repaired
So Sad that Rosemary passed away and didn't get to see the restoration of her Dad's Radio thoughts with family and friends 💜🙏💜🌹

I’m sad that Rosemary didn’t live another week or so, so she could listen to the restored radio set. ❤

Sad Rosemary didn’t get to see her heirloom repaired, but at least she knew it was getting repaired.

God knows what the germans would have done if you were caught with this radio sent to work camp, shot by fireing squad, beat to death by gestapo etc
😢
Anybody else crying?
How does she listen to Churchill on the radio
The Repair Shop arranges a local broadcast of an appropriate era, I think; I’ve seen two or three radios repaired.

Someone one day down the family line might donate it to a museum, you never know......
It's a family heirloom with a lot of special memories attached to it. It wouldn't be fair to steal that away from them, would it?
It's entirely up to the family what they decide to do with the item.
Family’s possession, family’s choice. Who are you to declare what should, or should not, have been done with it?
