Ive said before and Ill say it again. Lab Band is my deserted island music. Only one band. Yep. Its you guys because of the sheer catalogue of perfect diversity in music. You cover it all. And I apoligise for mentioning anything negative about any episode. I think I did once about low energy. Im sorry. You all are true inspirations...all of you who spoke and the 60+ who didnt. I really appreciate this 4 part doc. Thank you for the music ❤❤❤❤💖💝💖💝
The song is in the laboratory being taken apart, studied then represented to us to appreciate the music. Again, it's not about the performer or group, It's about the music. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to do this. We enjoy the behind the scenes. Also, to get to know everyone better.
I have been a musician all my life. I've written professionally, spent time vocally in some of the biggest studios. The Lexington Lab Band is absolutely at the top of their game! I have listened to so much music in my life that sometimes I have to take a break from listening to some of my favorite artists, but it's not like that with LLB. The variety that they put out just makes everything fresh again. It's not like your listening to your favorite band, it's like your hearing all of your favorites in one place and hearing them all over again from a fresh perspective. I actually stumbled on LLB from a shared post of a friend and have been hooked ever since. Saying that they are a just a cover band is like saying a picture of the Mona Lisa isn't the real thing. God bless all of LLB please do not stop what you are doing, you are truly needed!
I have been playing and listening to music all my 64 years. The love of music is a very strong motivator. It triggers memories and feelings from years past or at the moment. To hear other musicians getting that same feeling and making it happen for others is a blessing and gift. 👍
It's so interesting to hear the comments/feelings of the LLB. I doubt any of you are old enough to remember it, but these interviews reminded me of the TV show 'Queen for a day' (1950's ?). You don't get to play the music of your favorites . . . You get to BE that person/band for a brief moment in time. And we all win !! 🏆
You guys have rocked all that time. I didn’t know you from the beginning, but from whenever you came into my life, and I discovered your talent, it inspired me to be a better musician. I would love nothing more than to collaborate with you guys if God ever gave me the chance. You’re a blessing to the music community.🙏
For someone like myself, who has been a fan since I first heard LLB and mostly due to my love for classic rock music having been born in 1955 . I experienced booking acts for almost 25 years at a festival and got to see and know how rich in talent that Kentucky is, LLB is REAL. Not faking anything, the talent is just amazing. Sharing your thoughts and opinions here is special.
It's so great to hear the passion and respect that you have for each other, for the music, and for the whole project. Love seeing what you all bring to each song.
Every musician who has ever been in any level of a 'garage band' plays first because they love to play. There is always the desire and inspiration to do the songs we/they play justice. LLB is achieving the epitome of what a band is, and these musicians are the ones who fortunately get to live this.
Steve is SO PHENOMINAL on "Drive" (gave me chills) and Pink Floyd. I am a huge fan of his vocals. I'm honored that Steve remembers me complimenting him about how I enjoyed his Pink Floyd vocals because I was able to understand the lyrics for the first time.
The back story of how the band came together, the regulars, the guests, and the interviewer is enlightening. These musicians are definitely top tier, but without all the drama that has historically followed many of the bands they cover. The difference in age range of the members says they all work together, and take their musical skill sets quite serious, and combine those skill sets to produce music that is incredible. Their covers bring a fresh look to all the classics, in a way that drives the listener to keep coming back. It is really that good!
After listening to you all sharing your personal thoughts on some of the music you've performed together as LLB, it is even MORE obvious to me WHY your songs sound so fantastic. Just as I have commented in countless videos over the years, you all are having FUN doing this!!! IT SHOWS!!! When you love doing something, it's not work. When you love what you're doing, you put forth your best effort, and the result of the ridiculous hours of practice to know your part comes to bear. My heart--felt "thank you" to each of you for your candor, your talents and your faithfulness to great music.
Another great interview by Tracy. She knows how to bring out what we, as fans, want to hear. The guys are all great in their discussion of family, humbleness and lack of ego. The one point of needing a big ego to perform in the first place shows that there is no lack of egos, just that they're all kept in check. Another point I would make is that while they may not sound exactly like each member of each band every time, they never fail to capture the feeling or essence of the song. On the subject of the comment feedback, I did make a comment about a waste of their talent performing Rick Springsteen and I was quickly, but kindly, told there error of my comment. To me, that proves that they not only read them, but they take the comments to heart. These guys are impressive in so many more ways than just their music.
I discovered LLB during the pandemic (‘20). Our kids grown, my wife and I would play cards and board games listening to the songs we remember lovingly. Watching these documentary segments just makes me appreciate the music AND musicians more. Pleeease keep the LLB train rolling. God bless you, Mike, and all the dedicated music moms and dads who have not forgotten that excellence takes work!
Sincere thanks to everyone to who took personal time to contribute to this effort. If we see only one dimension of each of you, it is a dimension that fills the eye, vivid with color and motion. Rock and roll has always been mostly a guy thing. I do miss the ladies like Katie and Lauren. Amanda Carpenter's performance of "The Warrior' is a favorite to this day. There was a moment when acoustic performances featuring a full band were popular. i believe the Lab Band could uniquely call back to that era.
Hearing the group’s level of passion and commitment in these interviews has made me love and respect the Lab Band team even more. Wherever the future leads, I promise that I will be following along and looking forward to many new episodes.
Thank you all for taking the time to participate in these interview sessions. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to better know the people who make LLB such a beautiful project.
Three Dog Night was great cause they owned every cover they did. Same with LLB. Their supurb precision playing, the passion and talent behind their singing and harmonies, the incredible sound mix and the amazing video shooting and editing gives us something you can't get anywhere else. That what makes them great! Plus...knowing it's all for the music is the cherry on top! LLB is what made me pay the monthly fee to get a commercial free UA-cam! Excellent Excellent job LLB!❤
I had the pleasure of meeting several of you at the concerts at Transylvania and it really impressed me that you were so approachable and kind to speak with. I had never really listened to Dwight Yoakum until you introduced me to his songs. I'm a fan now. Mike is unbelievably good on Aerosmith and Black Crows he always nails any song he does. ALL HAIL THE LAB BAND !!!!!!!
I absolutely love this documentary series. I really don't remember how I discovered yall on UA-cam, but once I did, I think there were about 6 hours of binge watching involved!!😄 To try to sum up my fascination and appreciation for what you do is, I grew up listening to all genres of music, an 80's young teen. Country, Rock, Rap, and Blue Grass. My Aunts, Uncles and and some family friends used to do "jam sessions" in a little house out in the woods in the summer time in Alabama. It was mostly Blue Grass and Country and I was fascinated watching them play. You're videos give this back to me. Actually watching the instruments be played instead of a music video that focuses more on theatrics than performance. Seeing "everyday" ladies and gentlemen with such impressive skill and attention to detail perform these songs is once again fascinating!!! To the musicians and singers...my hats off to all you guys and girls. Keep doing what you do. You are bringing back memories and bringing smiles to a lot of faces. God Bless!!
I have recently found your channel and am loving it. You all do a great job and all the hours you spend in practice for the videos really shows in your performances. I agree that your performances often sound better than the original artist's versions. Thank you all for doing this!
Tracy is very good at what she does. Lexington Lab Band never fails to impress. The musicianship combined with the prep work results in very memorable achievements.
Thank You ! You want to thank the fans but without YOU there are no fans ! I now hear somgs on the radio ,but I visualize the Lab Band ! In a lot of cases I enjoy your version more than the original. Going to have to make a road trip to a live concert !
I recently went to your video catalog and sorted by popularity, and I was amazed that your version of Lionel Richie's "You Are" was not at the top of the list. I must have watched that one a hundred times; it makes me so happy. And not taking anything away from Mr. Ritchie, but I like your version so much more! It's one of those situations where the cover has become the gold standard for me. Is it Kevin's vocal? The HORNS?!?! The weird keyboard bass? The drums? Yes, yes, yes and yes. Oh, and the guitar - that seafoam Strat, you know the one I mean - that guy is insanely good.
I totally agree with you!! I listened to it over and over again. It put a smile on my face. When I hear it in my head now it’s Kevin singing it. I’m not putting Lionel Richie down at all. But Kevin just brought something new to it for me. Their version of Ride Like The Wind is so good too!!! I just can’t say enough good about them. They have done some songs that weren’t some of my favorite songs. But they did them very well. I just love all of their passion. ❤
These guys and gals are of one the best ensemble of musicians and singers ever put together . I think we can safely compare them to the "Wrecking Crew " .
I find it amusing that Brad was “ready to retire” after Chicago because it sounded so good. Terry Kath was one of the greatest guitarists ever & he replicated him note for note. Amazing!
One of the things that strikes me is that when I was growing up there was a lot of animus in the Christian community to rock music, until Larry Norman and others rightly ask, why should the Devil have all the good music? I don't sense any of that from these musicians even though many of them are committed Christians and even sing and play in church. For me, that's incredibly validating that I was not wrong to enjoy all this music without seeing it as at odds with my faith. So for me this is all joy and a reminder that all that is uplifting about music comes from God. BW3
When playing classical, the object is for the performer to disappear so that the audience hears the composer, rather than the musician. And to do that, the performer has to have his or her performance polished to perfection. A cover band has the same job. The object is to perform someone else's music so perfectly that the audience hears the original, and that is way harder than playing a band's own original music. Very, very few cover bands are talented and dedicated enough to pull that off, and LLB does it better than any cover band I've ever heard. As for those who criticize vocals, there is something people need to keep in mind. A musician can use the same guitar and set it up the same way as in the original, and it'll sound exactly the same. A band can go out and buy a Les Paul or Stratocaster.. However, they can't go out and buy a "Brad Delp" or "Freddie Mercury" or "Johnny Cash". No two vocalists sound exactly the same, and there is nothing that can be done about it. The vocals are never going to sound exactly like those in the original, so before you criticize, think...

Been watching you guys since the first Doobie Brothers video came out. Never miss watching every video, most many times. Question: anybody you've wished you could do, but can't find the right vocalist for?
Is there any place where I can buy the LLB music a la carte? Pick from the catalog, download, make payment, and shove that USB stick into my boat and enjoy !!!

One question. Can you do some Foghat in the future?
Moving from band catalogs to genre or even period pieces allows LLB to do some “one hit wonder” songs that keeps the fun going.
