I think CPL16 is now the gold standard of a small pack, packed with bunch of features that you can utilize compared to bullet is just a dump pocket, and once it’s filled out pockets are useless. This is definitely a great alternative to people like me who don’t like the aesthetic of a GR but want a clean and highly functional bag like CPL16 IMHO. 😊
@@JBOutside1@JBOutside1 Especially for years, I have been praying that Evergoods come out with an alternative to the bullet, I will not lie Bullet is appealing and had several, but the harness was not great compared to EG.
I haven't received my pre-order, however; according to my friends who use cpl16, one major issue is that items on the horizontal pockets on the front panel fall off. It's kinda useless 😅 except for the zippered part. May be adding zipper on that entire horizontal pockets will solve that issue. @JBOutside1
This is the review that made me pull the trigger on this incredible bag to replace my GR1 and I have absolutely no regrets. I use it for EDC for work and personal item for travel and works like a charm. Again, thanks JB for taking the time to do these reviews.
Just got mine the other day and I love it. I always felt the CPL 24 felt a tad bit too large for EDC to the point that I was taking extra things with me for the sake of having the extra space but not actually needing them. Now because of the 16 liters, it forces me to simplify my carry and I can't complain. My only wish was that they either offered it in a XPAC/ECOPAK material or just a couple different colors besides black. A Coyote, OD Green, or Burnt Orange colorway would have been rad.
After using TAD Axiom 24, I decided to buy smaller one for daily usage. My cpl16 is on the way for a week and hopefully tomorrow I will receive after customs processes. Using my right shoulder generously however I will try to use the left one for right hand. Great review as always. Thanks much for clear expression. Hope I will not regret it! Greetings from Turkiye.
@@JBOutside1 Loved it! By the way I may share a small tip. I removed the plastic sheet from inside zipper of side laptop compartment so the bag became softer and lighter. (I weighed exactly-122g)
Yep, that is the sweet spot for me as well, the 15/16L size bag. I do have the 24L in the OD green X-Pac, but it is just a little big for EDC. Really hoping for an X-Pac or ECOPAK with Aquaguard zippers throughout for the 16L at some point. For now, my carry in that size is the TAD Scout in X-Pac.
@@JBOutside1 Here in Portland we are walking the streets and hiking the mountains in absolute downpours for hours on-end, the X-Pac type material with YKK Aquaguard zippers are a must for us here.
Great video as always! Would you consider this a do everything (aside from rucking) bag as in could be used for light hiking or days with the kiddos? I’m looking for a more usable bullet! Thank you!
I am eagerly waiting for the CPL16 to be back in stock. I would love to see a demonstration or review of the CPL16, showcasing which pouches and accessories, such as the 8L cube, fit into it. Coool review, keep it comin...
Fantastic review, thank you! I'm holdingout for a smaller version of the CTB line, as I am one of those crazy hydration enthusiasts. I love my Griffin CPL24 for carry to the office, but I need hydration on certain occasions.
I'm now trying to decide on this compared to the CHZ22. I'm traveling to Europe and this seems great as just a nice size bag to walk around with. As a personal bag on the plane, how well would this fit a hoodie, rain jacket, some smaller headphones and a few other things (no computer) but at the same time for EDC carry a water bottle and smoothie bottle inside the bag with a small amount of other things? Tried not to write a laundry list of things in the bag but I don't actually carry that much but for the trip I will have some extra clothes on the plane.
I was just about to pull the trigger on a bullet 16l ripstop after months of deciding....and then ever goods swoops in last sec with this lol. Which to me is the same but looks better and holds more varied laptops and whatnot. Better organization.
I might use that. I need a bag while in London for the office with a different material than my heritage that got beat up in UK weather. Will that come in ecopak do you know?
Was waiting for someone to review this CPL16, YAH JB! Have resisted buying CPL24 for a very long time (latest being the Griffin) cos i find anything over 20L too big for an edc (me being Asian). When i saw this, i got to have it. Glad that its already on the way. Review is on the dot.
Unfortunately I’m unable to do that one at the moment. But it would be a good one. As for the straps they’re pretty much the same as the last several straps from Evergoods. They make a little noise initially but it goes away quickly. I don’t notice this anymore.
I really want to like this one but it doesn’t stand up by itself which a pet hate of mine. My Dyneema bullet stand up even when empty and has the QAP which is a must for me. Hoping for a release of an 18L CTB in the future
Hey! Question about the CPL16: I would need to fit a Peak Design camera cube XS with a depth of 12 cm, considering also a 16-inch MacBook Pro (1.62 cm deep) in the laptop compartment, but I wouldn't want it all to be too tight. What do you guys think? Has someone tried this?
You’re not imagining things. The CPL24 I have in this video is the EcoPak version, which has those zippers. The standard CPL24 has the same zips as the CPL16
I use the cpl 28 for work right now (it's huge) - but in the laptop compartment I keep a work HP laptop, as well as an iPad Pro 12.9 - would those fit in the laptop compartment of the CPL16?
Lot of differences and I'd say that the PLC20 has more in common with the MPL22 actually. The biggest difference is the dramatic increase in organization and laptop protection in the CPL designs. I do love that big front pocket in the PLC20 though
Good for sure, as long as the capacity is enough to carry what you need. I could make it work. Otherwise would need to bump up to the CPL24 or CTB26 (my fave)
Is the hard bottom edge that digs into my back still stiff on this version? Arc exacerbates digging. Might be my body type. CPL24 doesn’t fit me either. If yes, no go…I’m such a fan of the EG aesthetic/layout. Weirdly, the GR bullet/GR1 fits better (the bullet is 18.5”). Is the EG16 worth a try, guru?
They still are doubling down on having the key thing at the top which is so useless of a spot. I DO NOT want to take off my whole bag, set it down, then lift it up and try to open door while holding the bag, wtf? So... Bag looks great, but like the 24, have to cut out the top and have someone re-sew it in the proper place, the front side pocket so then you can sling snd open door. I never understood this.

I have to believe that if this is as popular as I think it is that other colors will follow, along with EcoPak options.
I have the cpl 16 myself. It has made me appreciate smart pocket design

Gotcha

How does the CPL16 stack up to the double compartment bullets in your opinion?
Planning a video to answer this exact question
Great video JB - what's your take: CPL 16 vs Bullet DC16? I have the DC16 - not seeing an advantage also acquiring the CPL16. Am I missing something?
I may actually do that video soon. Really all about personal preference
Dc is layed out like the gr2s. That layout to me is like travel layed out. The cpl is more daily layed out.

Nice! Glad it was helpful
Between the solution dye and ecopak , dhich fabric did you preferred?
I like the EcoPak/Aquaguard zip build personally for most of them. But as an EDC this 16L works well in the solution dyed
Which do you think is the better edc, cpl16 vs mpl22? Use case would be to the coffee shop with a laptop, snacks, and a water bottle.
The water bottle is the curveball here. Which do you need to access more frequently and easily? Laptop or water bottle?
How would you compare capacity to the Scout? Spec’d similarly but the Scout seems smaller in photos..
I'll have to take a look at this a little closer. I didn't compare them directly because they have vastly different design purposes.
Hey JB. Do you find that that CPL16 stands well on its own like the CPL24 does?
Mostly. But not as well
Nice review, thanks for that John. (Manchester United sufferer)
