    This is a really great video. Thank you for sharing this. The content for the subject matter is on point. Your camera work does a great job of keeping the important view in frame, and your narrative is easy to understand with just the right amount of guidance. 👍 I'm going to perform my 30k service soon and this video is a big help. You probably found out later there's a gasket around the battery compartment so they may very well be waterproof, but like you demonstrated at least water resistant.

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 6 днів тому

      From Mick: @sim8324, thanks for watching and you are correct the unit has gaskets. At time of making video I found a note saying units are IP65 rated, now I see IP67, look up the IP rating chart, 65 says good against jets of water, 67 says 30 minutes in up to one meter of water. I may dig into that some more. These seem to be good little units.

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 10 днів тому

      From Mick: @daveengstrom9250, thanks for watching. There are privacy tones which can be used when talking directly to someone, simplex. If programed, the sending unit must match what is programmed on the receiving unit. Similar to repeaters, a tone must be programmed in the sending unit to “open” repeater to receive signal

    2 questions. Can you raise the hood with the antenna installed or do you need to remove it before raising the hood? And, with the radio installed, can a passenger still ride without their knee rubbing on it (in other words, passenger comfort)? This was a great video! It looks like I can install my radio(s) easily! Hello Sir, How did you take off the old drain plug washer? Thank you

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 Місяць тому

      From Mick: @richardrodriguez5480, sometimes if / when the oil pan nut washer sticks to the pan I will use either a plastic tool or wood to tap on the edge to remove without scratching or damaging the pan. I have had to use a flathead screw driver on some old cars. Be careful to not damage the pan and especially any threads

    The correct ATF for this 5HP19 box is ZF Lifeguard 5 not Pentosin (Pentosin is used only for the power steering system on the 996) !

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 28 днів тому

      @nathandan7079 - Thank you for your comment and you are correct, Porsche recommends ZF Lifeguard 5 for OEM replacement. That said I had a very hard time finding this available without going to a dealership or ordering from Europe. I did some extensive research on what people had used and what ATF makes and fluids would be acceptable. I came to the conclusion that there are three acceptable brands that could be used: ZF Lifeguard 5, Pentosin ATF 1, and Esso (now Mobile 1) ATF LT 71141. This is MY research and what I was comfortable with putting in my Porsche. I always try to go with Porsche OEM recommendations for sure, in this case I chose Pentosin ATF 1. I would suggest that everyone should do their own research and use what they feel is acceptable - I am by no means a Porsche mechanic or expert! Thanks again for commenting so others can make their decisions with as much info as possible!

    Is there a way I can take the .programmed frequencies from another Baofeng radio and past them into the NA-K6 PC spreadsheet? I'm legally blind and fiddling around with a magnifying glass is tedious. It's easier to have the sheet on my 32-inch TV screen. 73, Bruce VE6XTC

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 Місяць тому

      From Mick: @VEGXTC, I typically use the CHIRP software to program all my radios the same. Once I have the CSV file set up for radio with the smallest number of memory channels I use that same for all (sometimes add GMRS or other special features depending on the radio). I’m also going to do some research on radio to radio transfer. Thanks for watching, good luck, 73’s

      From Mick: @BRADH-xw8sw, thanks for watching. I’ll have to go back and review this radio, I’ve been playing with several others and can’t remember what they all do anymore. I’ll get back when I’m done traveling or get a chance to look at specs online.

      @@Portie2216 I’m looking at a 2000 996 and it has the original IMS bearing and was wondering about your mileage, the car has 41k original miles and has the original IMS in it so I wanted to see what yours has. Thanks for the reply and keep up the good videos!

    • @Portie2216

      @rogereckstrom5094 - I have not done the IMS on this one either. From what I’ve read in my research the 99 & 00 both have the dual row bearing that does have a lower percentage of incidence. When I changed the oil both times there was no metal traces at all - checked the filter element as well - all good! Change oil every 6 months and make sure it’s full and 🤞🏻

      From Mick: @TateStump, I used a fogging oil to coat the carb and pistons for storage over the winter. Run the carb bowls out of gas, then spray fogging oil in carbs, run a while, then when all dead, turn over engine while spraying to suck oil spray through carbs into pistons!

    Very nice radio but there is still not enough coverage in the frequency ranges. On the farms in South Africa, we use two radios with two frequency ranges namely 66 to 69 Mhz and 400 to 470 Mhz. As a result, you either have one radio or the other one or you have to carry two radios with you because there is no radio on the market that covers these two frequency ranges in one radio. It would have been so nice if this radio could cover the 66 tot 69 Mhz and the 400 to 470 Mhz frequency range but it only goes down to 76 Mhz.

      From Mick: @suidafrikaanseboer3320 - thanks for watching and interesting comment. Can you let me know why you use the two different frequency ranges, is each farm different or both frequencies used on the same farm? I’ll have to do some digging into the lower range. Thanks again for the comment
