    New to your channel, like your channel, I'm Paul from Shelby Township, Michigan. My GMRS call sign is WSGG772. I really like that new Baofeng GMRS-9R that would be a good radio for me to carry on my Sea-Doo jet ski when I'm out on the lakes. I use the Macomb repeater. Maybe one day we can chit chat a bit. I am new to the GMRS radios. Please put me in the drawing. Thank you. Have a great day.

    Ha! 14:55 is exactly the reason I went looking for various PDK vids on YT just now. I am in the middle of this service on my wife's Macan GTS and had 100% the same reaction when putting the internal filter in ("there should be a pop; why's there NO POP and why is the filter hanging so loose in it's spot when the factory filter took so much force to pop out!!!". I was in a bit of a rush and secured everything back together but haven't yet put all the fluid in yet and started getting these nightmare scenarios in my head that the filter isn't on correctly and I should drain the fluid again, remove the pan, and try to seat the filter again. But thought to see if anyone on YT had the same issue. Glad you did!! You just saved me a lot of time and anxiety. Since filters operate with suction, I bet they eventually seat on their own under load.

    I had to change the oil line and put a kit in my homelite ez last week. An old man gave it to me. It's a good overall chainsaw 😊 not as powerful as today's saws. The problem I found was the tank. Today's fuel causes corrosion in it 😮

    Maybe a stupid question, but did you consider the Aliexpress PCCM clone before you did this install? It’s like $160 and comes with wireless CarPlay and backup cameras.. just curious what the thought process was, not bashing.

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 5 днів тому

      @egyptianluvr9223 - not a stupid question at all, I did consider it I will admit. Still thinking about it for some of my other cars. Main reason is I wanted it to be as much OEM all throughout - I put OEM rims on it as well to replace the aftermarket rims that were on it when I bought the 996. Plus I really wanted to try out the PCCM+ - bummer it did not have the wireless CarPlay, thus this video! Thanks for watching and commenting!!!

    Are you really transmitting on 136.000 Mhz? Maybe I'm not seeing something or missing something but that is an airband frequency, as in, what pilots and control towers and such transmit and receive on. Also, in that band of frequencies 118.000- 137.000Mhz (especially up in the higher range where your radio is programmed to transmit) there are frequencies that are automated that computers on airplanes use to automatically navigate and course correct for landings on runways. Transmit on 146 on up to 147.99 if you want to talk on VHF or better yet look up the frequencies that are regulated but at least safe.

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 6 днів тому

      From Mick: @McGillicuddy-300 , very good question and like that you are making sure things are safe. I’ve only listened on the airbands and never have transmitted. I believe the radios should be programmed to not transmit. I have the radio on duel “watch” or listen and should be transmitting on VHF. Now that you questioned it, I’ll now double check what channel I’m on before pressing the PTT. I’m watching lots of items while making the video so hopefully I have not accidentally pressed the wrong button. Great comment, thanks for watching.

    Baofeng says 5 watt output. Is it 5 watt on vhf and uhf? I saw on gt5r (not pro) that it was 4 watt on vhf and 1 watt on uhf. The yaesu ft50r that I used to have put out 3.5 watts on uhf, and 5 on vhf.

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 10 днів тому

      From Mick: @philwood9760 , I agree, most radios seem to put out less watts then listed. But we need to keep in mind I’m using a cheap adapter that could cause power loss and I’m not using a dummy load, but a mag mount antenna that has different SWR at different frequencies, which could explain the difference. I should research how the SureCom measure power to better confirm. I use the readings to confirm differences between radios and have a close estimation of power. I think height and good antenna is most important. Thanks for watching and the good comment.

      From Mick: @Sdr-f7n , I like this model and works well. There are only two things to think about. 1) Size, if you need something small to carry with other equipment in a pack-out, it should be tested, 2). The red font on the menu is hard to read in day light, I need to see if that can be changed. These radios are so cheap, get both, then you have a spare if one breaks. What are the differences between this and the UV-5RH pro and the UV-5RH pro max?

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 22 дні тому

      From Mick: @VRWarLab, I do not currently see these models listed on the Baofeng website. The typical difference between models is the display, frequency range, NOAA, and power. These could older models as Baofeng is always making small changes. Thanks for watching and the comments

    • @VRWarLab
      @VRWarLab 22 дні тому

      @@Portie2216 that's the issue I have, I haven't found any official source. However I've heard that some company made a ham radio with X feature (something to do with the screen I believe) and so Baofeng decided to make the UV-5RH pro max which implements that feature. (Something to do with GPS? No clue. UV-5RH pro (not the max one) has GPS I believe so I don't know what the difference may be)

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 22 дні тому

      From Mick: @VRWarLab , a lot of these radios do the same things, with minor variations. I would write down the main things you want in a radio then look at the official Baofeng, Tidradio, or Wouxon sites for the best match. I need to look into GPS in these cheap handhelds. I know the big boys have GPS for things like D-Star…. I’m gonna research what GPS is currently used for. Check out our latest review of the Baofeng AR-5rm. I liked the radio. Thanks again for watching and comments

    I Can't thank you enough for this!!! this is exactly what is going on in my car, just saw the broken weld at eh back as well and going to fix this finally!! Makes you feel like you have a pos lol thank you so much you got a new follower and like on this video!!!

      @Portie2216 23 дні тому

      @AryaKiaie - glad it helped! I'll tell you it drove me batty for several weeks until I figured it all out, first it was the weld that broke and all the squeaking, then a few months later it was the vibration that was annoying - it just progressively got worse. Been driving it with the bands for 10 months now and holding on strong - no issues! Of course the permanent fix is to buy the new exhaust pipes - good luck!!!

    Makes sense now why the rockers go out so fast. But this is great I need to get mine done. You ever have issues with third brake light not seating correctly against trunk lid and allowing water in

    Hi Portie, looks great! I am thinking about making the jump to the PPCM+ in my 996 but, wireless CarPlay was a deal breaker. Quick question, though, if you had that black box, that I’ve seen in a lot of other installs, can’t you just plug the wireless CarPlay adapter and the MagSafe adapter into the two inputs? Looks like there is one for the phone/carplay input and one that is a regular USB. If that is correct, then why do we need the tap off the cigarette lighter? Also, is that black box an item that comes with the PCCM+ or is that a separate component? If so, do you have a link?

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 28 днів тому

      @LouUSMC - Thanks for watching and I'd say you won't regret the PCCM+ with added wireless! I too thought maybe you could plug the magsafe charger into the supplied "black box" or "media box" - when I did, it didn't have enough power for the magsafe charger, thus the cigarette lighter tap in for 12v power. I'm sure there are other power sources you can pull from but this was in the vicinity and worked pretty well. I'd also suggest buying the A1 midshelf from Autobahn Engineering - game changer right there! Autobahn Engineering A1 Mid Shelf = autobahn.engineering Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!

    Regarding the cross brace,I've read that it should only be removed while the front wheels are suspended,but clearly you removed and refitted it whilst on ramps,I'll be doing it your way.

      @Portie2216 Місяць тому

      @DamienH-y9g - I haven't heard that, interesting - I'll have to look into that. Nothing I saw in the Porsche repair manual had that instruction, although I could've missed it. I will say, so far so good with the change though - been a few months and several thousand miles on the clock.

    Can you go through the gears while the wheels aren't turning (on ramps)

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 Місяць тому

      @DamienH-y9g - yes you can, make sure you keep your foot firmly planted on the brake so you don't rock off the jack stands. Going through the gears allows the transmission to heat up and get the oil all around the gears and throughout the trans.

    • @DamienH-y9g
      @DamienH-y9g Місяць тому

      @Portie2216 I've been trying this but the display doesn't change from 1 (first gear) maybe the wheels have to be spinning?

    • @Portie2216
      @Portie2216 Місяць тому

      @@DamienH-y9g If I'm remembering correctly you'll only be able to hit 1st, reverse and neutral - that should do the trick! You won't be able to get higher than first unless the wheels are spinning but that is not needed. Just 1st, reverse and neutral - go back and forth every so often until you hit temp. I think I let it sit in each gear for 10 seconds or so - no magic time frame that I recall. Good luck!
