Totally agree. I learned that even computers, internet and cell phones (the first prototypes) were made by them. Young people today don't have the great ideas and the ability of "making things out of thin air" like the previous generations.

My husband was in the Navy in the early 70's, so I got to go aboard his ship almost weekly when he pulled duty in port. (Visitors always had to leave at 8:00, so I never did get to finish the after-dinner movie!). I also got to go on the dependent's cruise on 2 occasions before they shipped out for 6 months...that was amazing! After discharge, we were in SD as part of a vacation tour, ending up at my Sister's in LA, & I wanted to tour the air craft carrier then in the Bay, but we couldn't fit it into our schedule. Darn! So, I was excited to see you gave me a glimpse of what I missed!

I have been on the Midway tour twice. In my younger days I was stationed on the USS Constellation CVA/CV 64 1973 to 1977. We were home ported right across the bay at NAS North Island. I have also been on the USS Missouri BB 63 and the USS Iowa BB 61. When I visited these ships I noticed that the smell is the same. All Navy ships have the same smell.

Thank you for sharing this, this is the first time I have seen a ship converted into a museum rather than kept in its original state. And can you imagine how fun this video would have been if those control panels remained operational with Sarah turned loose in the ship? Thank you once again.

Brings back memories, I was home-ported in S.D.in early 60's on a Heavy Cruiser which was the Flagship for ComFirst (Fleet a Vice Admiral). I was a Lithographer and we printed tons of printed paper work for 1st. Fleet. we often had to get supplies from other ships and Carriers had a large print shop so we visited all the Carriers and Cruisers in port. I was on Midway many times and was impressed by the size for sure. Visiting super carriers was even more impressive. I am glad that S.D. has Midway for a museum. Great video as always.

Thank you for your visit to the Midway. My husbands family has great and tragic ties to the ship. Philip “Bud” Hofmann lived and worked onboard the ship. During the typical practice launches to stay ‘ready’ his plane suffered some failure and was lost, with him inside, off the flight deck in the mid 1940’s. Neither he nor the plane were recovered. Thank you to the many many people who served on board and all the families that supported the fine folks on and around the history of that ship.

Jeff when I was a kid, the USS Enterprise was in Long Beach harbor for an open house. My family and I arranged to go for a trip to the harbor one afternoon and got on board the aircraft carrier. I looked around and the place was as big as a small city.
That's a very nice sterling silver service on board the USS Midway.

It's nice to see the USS Midway again. My wife and I visited a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Our sons are both Marines and we were able to visit the USS America just before our youngest son shipped out. The USS America is quite a bit smaller and far more technologically advanced, but there are still a lot of similarities between the old and the new. As always, thank you so much for all the hard work! We really enjoy watching every Sunday morning. 👍👍

I was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in September 1989 while deployed onboard the USS MIDWAY while embarked with Commander, Carrier Group SEVEN. We were in the Indian Ocean in support of Desert Shield Operations. We rode her for 3.5 months. What an honor to serve onboard a ship that was an integral part of the United States Navy success during World War II in the Pacific Ocean. Retired as a Chief Yeoman in July 1997 with 20 years of service.

The building used to extend further down the pier, have ramps so trucks could drive up to the second level where supplies were stored and also railroad tracks going onto the pier so that military transport ships could load and unload heavy equipment onto and off of rail cars.

I went on a tour of one of these in Vancouver back in September 1995. Remember being a long line up and what bugged me the most was some of the crew members of the X-Files got to jump the queue and go right on.

That was really cool! It's hard to get a feel for just how massive and complex an aircraft carrier is until you've been on one. They are something! Thanks for taking us along with you on this adventure!

Huell Howser also visited the Hornet up in Alameda. That looked really cool too.

The USS Hornet is in Alameda at the old Alameda Navel Air Station. That's the Air Craft carrier that picked
up and quarantined the astronauts in the late 60's and early 70's and even has a replica ( I think it's a replica) of one of the Apollo space craft command modules on board.

I love the Ready Room seats!!!! Very cool. Go Navy!!! I can’t tell you how many times I was called into the XOs office to get yelled at. LOL don’t worry it was never my fault but something I had to “handle.” The flight deck is always awesome to see🤘
