What this really showed is how under utilized the Visards are in this series. They should of been the only ones able to kick A the whole arc or at the very least the 1st invasion.
This bugged the fuck out of me back in the day and did put a sour taste in my mouth. I would have been totally fine with an explanation as too why they dont, whether it was a rule to be let back in or that they were cured of their Hollow powers... Both explanations would have been acceptable, but no. We got nothing and watched the visards get bodied like they were nothing.
Meanwhile we have to watch Mayuri get all these undeserved Ws, and of course there's Zaraki and Byakuya who also get all the Ws and favorable matchups (with a few exceptions). It's annoyingly and blatantly clear that Kubo has favorites.
I thought that the whole hollowfied Bankai aspect was an indication that the vizards would play a big role since I thought that Quincy couldn't steal Bankai mixed with Hollow reishi.. Low and behold how wrong I was.
Yea, I honestly expected and hoped that the vizards and the arrancars woulda played a bigger role, considering their biological advantage against the Quincy. Guess Kubo just really loves his Gotei 13
I'm curious as to why the Vizard Captains didn't use their Hollow Mask, like there's a war going on wouldn't it be smart to bust out your best abilities that involve using ceros and stuff
@@aragaminightmare9527 someone on UA-cam said that it was probably yamamoto. Like for the vizards to come back they cant hollowfy. Thats pretty logical to me but it could be headcanon
There are so many things I completely forgot about the last arc. I'm pretty sure Kubo ran out of time / health to elaborate more about cool ideas like this and I can't wait to see whatever he comes up in the anime adaptation.
He run out of time because he was pressure and rushed to finish the manga. He actually had a plan but was not able to finish it. Hopefully anime gives him the chance to finish the story the way he intended to.
I took hyorimaru looking like that In a different way when I read it. He was PISSED.Toshiro had worked tirelessly and with obsession almost. And having gained bankai, we know that he had impressed hyorinmaru to the point of giving up dominance. He had ceded control of himself to hitsugaya out of respect. He had earned it. Then this fool Quincy comes and just STEALS him, and uses him. Zanpakuto have immense prides. And this was a moment of pure rage and hatred. Hyorinmaru had faith in toshiro, faith he could wield him with full and devastating effect. He knew the Quincy was about to get his payback.
Ik they eventually had to get their Bankai back, but I wish they used that to give us more fights with the Captains trying to utilize their shikai alone. They did so with Toshiro & Rangiku vs Bazz B and I found the way they combine their shikai in the fight to be very interesting.
I actually found that very disappointing. The way that they overpowered Bazz B to the extent that his flames are even stronger the Yamamoto's was just too extra.
I feel like Kubo missed a huge opportunity with the whole Hollow Reaitsu being poisonous to Quincy thing. Could have really given the Vizards a chance to shine a bit, considering they are already hollowfied. The fact no Vizard pulls their mask out against any Stirnritter is disappointing.
Actually Kubo clarified that it’s an application of YHWACH and the Quincy’s Sankt Altar technique. This technique was how YHWACH tried to steal Ichibei’s power.
Hm, when you think about it, that actually makes sense. Since all of their abilities come from Yhwach, it's natural that he bestowed some of his own abilities to them, like you can see with Hashwalt
@@jeepamir508 The Quincy Schrift abilities aren't YHWACH's. Kubo explained this in a Q and A. Like with the Almighty, YHWACH has an ability to see names of something people are lacking within themselves. He draws out that power within them by bestowing them that name in the form of a schrift which brings out the true potential of their soul. These Schrifts still remain with them even after YHWACH retakes the piece of his soul he shared.
@@justinpachi3707, that's not what I was talking about. Not about Schrift abilities, but Quincy's abilities in general. And Sternritter's abilities as well. That's what I meant. They cannot have the same abilities as Yhwach, since he's the Father of all Quincy. But he could've taught them how to use some of his abilities even a little bit, just like you've mentioned with Sankt Altar.
That was always my thought too. It always felt like there was supposed to be a tie in with the Vizored Bankai/Arrancar Resurrecion not being stolen. Like he had to scrap the first half because it made more sense with Kisuke working in Hueco Mundo that there was just the Arrancar connection
@@jamiew1342 Exactly, especially considering that they do get a fair amount of appearances in the arc. You have the 3 returning captains, who all get a fight, hell Rose and Kensei get to use their bankai in their fight. And then you have all of the Visored return just to gang up on Gerard. But it feels like they should've come in sooner. Like it sucks that they were defeated so easily but I feel like it wouldn't be as bad if they got introduced earlier as the "secret weapon" to use against the Quincy. Let them come in a fight against some of the weaker Sternritter with the Shinigami, give them some shine, and then after the Shin'eiyaku pills are developed, have them go after Gerard. That way they still lose to an overpowered character, but they still end up accomplishing something and don't end up looking like a complete joke.
aizen: spends years planning his betrayal of soul society and uses a god mcguffin to turn shinigami into hollows urahara: heard quincies stole your bankai so I hollowfied it in my free time
@@GutsNOnions they could be equally smart or smart enough for the regular person to not matter the difference. It is important the motivation and goals to which you use the intelligence
@@nicolaemihai3581 Aizen's self sabotaging and does random shit for no reason while Urahara has focus. Aizen really just let Ichigo be born and set up his growth as a shinigami only for him to be used by Urahara to seal Aizen himself. Aizen will do things like mentally torture Toshiro or manipulate Momo or allow the Vizards to live, while Urahara might troll people here and there he's not the type to do random side quests for no reason at all.
There where so many possibilities with the stolen and then Hollowfied Bankais. We may still see the OP Captains and others in the hell arc, especially given how utterly dangerous the hellspawn have shown themselves to be.
And most dead captains during the war were actually the most dangerous ones. I'm so anxious to imagine the immortal Unohana becomes a major villain in the future. LoL
I wish Soifon also got a little mask herself. Her Bankai literally has a little section for her to place her eye for aiming the missile. It'd be so cool to see her get a DBZ-like scouter.
They really could have done some even cooler stuff with this concept. A Quincy trying to steal the Bankai of one of the Visored Captains and failing only to hurt themselves would have been great to see! Maybe use that to give Rose and/or Kensei a win against a different Sternritter before they're wrecked by Mask. And man, I really hope the anime still gives us more information on BG-9. Not only what is K Schrift stands for and can do, but how exactly what is seemingly a robot can be a Quincy _and_ how the Hollow reiatsu can be poisonous to what seems to be a non-organic/spiritual being. So many questions about that guy lol...
One thing that sticks out to me about Histugaya getting the partial hollow mask, are the developmental tropes that have had implications on his bankai’s maturity. Hitsugaya is still an adolescent, and has not reached his prime whether that be physically or with his reiatsu. I think Kubo making it apparent that the hollow reiatsu had unique physical manifestations is a nice duality to the later use of his bankai vs. Gerard Valkyrie in which he forcibly matures his body in order to bear the full berth of his Hyorinmaru’s abilities. It really hits home how juvenile Toshiro is in the grand scheme of things, regardless of his prowess as a captain.
I always viewed the medallions as a means of hijacking the signal between shinigami and zanpakutou, allowing the quincy to dictate where the bankai manifests, when it manifests, and what it does while manifested. It's still a part of the shinigami and fueled by their power, it's just that connection between the zanpakutou's consciousness and the shinigami's that allows control that's been taken over.
I think that might be why yhwach never used yamamoto's bankai. If they are still tied to the shinigami enough to be brought back using hollow reiatsu then it makes sense that dying also cuts off that connection.
@@dylanedinger1306 3 months later, but that can't be used as reason for not using Yama's bankai cause Driscoll used Sasakibe's while he was already dead
Its also a big deal that this whole concept came very early when ichigo’s bankai could not be stolen It wasnt that it was incomplete, it was because of something we wouldnt know for over a hundred chapters It was all because his zanpakuto was hollow based
Since you mentioned that this is Military advancement for the seretei, Imagine if they bring the hollowfied bankai back for the Hell Arc. They could even have a plot develop from it where it does become detrimental to use it.
@@Rodolphin Not a huge fan of Mayuri but it makes sense. He’s a coordinator and strategist. He’s an MVP in the same way as a general in a real war. Both are huge players but seldom see frontline combat.
I'm actually honestly surprised they didn't have a vendetta against Captain Kurosuchi since he did multiple sketchy experiments on thousands, if not millions of Quincies. You would think Ywach would've wanted Mayuri to be like one of the first ones to die out of the Shinigami
I like also the idea that in the begining Yamamoto theprised that Quincies could not steal his Bankai and Ichigo's one because they don't have enough data being Yama's Bankai too ancient and Ichigo's Bankai too new but Ywach proving this wrong made me think why they still couldnt steal Tensa Zangestu, but after the hollowfied bankai subplot appear it makes so much sense as Ichigo's is literally a natural hollowfied Bankai
From my understanding, In Ichigos case it wasn't because it was hollowfied but because it wasn't his true zanpakto. "Old man Zangetsu" is also ichigos quincy aspect, NOT his shinigami/zanpakto spirit, though he recognized both aspects as his "true" zanpakto spirit. So this may also be a role. Basically in order to streal the bankai, you need knowledge of what it is and how it works and not even Ichigo had that knowledge.
@@babaG819 yeah but the hollow reiatsu still resides in it too. It's not the forefront but it is still there. So it's a combination imo. They had no idea what the hell it was, the hollow reaitsu also causes issues, and not even ichigo knew wtf his bankai was at the time
@@phantomzero1982 that might play a role but White is in my opinion essentially an asauchi/ so I'm not sure. White wasn't just a hollow but closer to a shinigami. Also any zanpakto becomes an asauchi when taken by a new shinigami. So when ichigo took rukias shinigami powers and formed a sword, which I don't think was unprecedented as it was illegal to transfer power this way, this should have served as an asauchi of sorts as well. On top of that, ishins soul was connected to masakis to prevent her death, her soul already being fused with White, so ichigo had inherited soul reaper, quincy, hollow and human "souls" at birth. The shinigami spirit being a reflection of the soul. When ichigo awakened his first true shikai with kisuke, he already had a hollow mask on his head so this was basically a substitute asauchi of sorts since it definitely awakened his zanpakto. I'm probably not entirely correct and I think you're probably right but these things were at play as well.
*Okay but imagine QUINCIFIED BANKAIS… like instead of a single-use Jakuho Raikoben, BG9 modifies it into a fucking gattling gun version… or each petal of senbonzakura spreads fear….*
What this really showed is how under utilized the Visards are in this series. They should of been the only ones able to kick A the whole arc or at the very least the 1st invasion.
I thought during the battle against Gerard; Hitsugaya's hollow form would emerge and try to take over and engage Gerard much like Ichigo vs Byakuya. Instead we got something else.
The way that I pictured it back then it was in the nature of the Quincy. They generate an amount of Reishi roughly equal to that of humans. When they fight, they absorb the external Reishi as if they were breathing. The bankai is an extremely tolling technique (the fact that Ichigo burns himself extremely fast in his first fight with Byakuya is an example), so they need to fuel it fast and Shinigamis are generally a much bigger source of reishi with their reiatsu. Captains have the highest outputs (with Zaraki having the highest, IIRC), so when the quincy use the bankais, they irony is that they are fueling the bankais with the reiatsu emitted by the captains themselves. The drug that Urahara uses temporarily attaches itself to the reishi emitted by the captains, which is then "breathed in" by the quincies. Inside the quincy, the reishi is processed through the bankai to become fuel, but at that point the "antibodies" from the quincy physiology start attacking the alien particles, which are now bound to the bankai, causing a severe anaphylactic shock. At that point, quincies are forced to remove the parts that are being rejected to survive, thus discarding the bankais that, needing a capable host, go back to their previous owners.
Not many people could explain these drawn-out chapters of the manga to me in a way that I'd stick around for, but you've consistently managed to do it in multiple videos. You're pretty good at this.
Interesting take on the hollowfication and connection of their souls and their bankai but that means that Yhwach could've never used Zanka no Tachi because Yamamoto was killed, effectively neutralizing the medalion?
Thanks so much for this. I had an “ahah” moment at the end of the video due your explaining that the stolen bankai still being connected to the shinigami as I had always assumed they were completely separate. This allowed to realize that Yhwach couldn’t use Yamamoto’s bankai, even if he’d wanted to, since he killed. Naturally, the bankai would no longer exist with Yamamoto dead.
I just noticed when you showed Stark's mask he has the mask lines that Ichigo's mask had which is interesting and I've never noticed. I honestly would have loved for full-on hollowification because an ice hollow mask just sounds amazing. Hopefully the anime rectifies the showing of Byakuya, Komamura and Soifon.
4:57 the bankai stealing medallion is obviously the modified power of yuha IMO. It even has his flowing blackness themed effect. One of his most overlooked skill is power compartmentalisation. He can share and call back percentages of his power at will. It's a weaker copy of that. Basically a mini, one-target aushcwallen.
I actually loved the hollowfied bankai. It showed growth in the Gotei. Yama wouldn't have allowed such a thing, or at least fought against it. Even though there are Visord Captains, you said in a previous video that maybe they are restricted from using hollowfication. So with hollowfied bankai, I think it's a cool look into how progressive they've become, and how the lore of Quincy's are almost opposite to Shinigami. One side is still human with spiritual power, and the other is a soul with human likeness. One kills Hollow's and they're erased from existence, and one purifies them or sends them to the proper afterlife.
I loved the whole idea of bankai stealing medallion i felt it was very well thought out and a good flip for the series.. great video and excellent discussion as always man
Maybe that's the reason Ichigo dislikes being hollwofied at the beginning of the show It was very unpleasant for him as a quincy, but not that harmful because he was a shinigami. And after the transformation, he was always exhausted.
I don't know how much extention we'll get in the anime but I really hope we get to see more of those masks. Imagine one panel with Aizen noticing the masks and making a comment 😆 it almost salt in the wound that it's alright to experiment with hollowfication as long as it's Kisuke!🤣 keep up the good work btw man! So pumped to see the channel growing daily
I’m really hoping that since the end of the manga Kubo has been able to flesh out those areas of the final arc that didn’t receive proper explanation like the Bankai stealing ability and will implement them via the anime adaptation. Although, It might be just wishful thinking on my behalf.
I would have loved to have seen Kubo show that the drawback of using hollowfication on Bankai alters it on a fundamental level and changes it in either minor or drastic permanent changes. Not just a one off activation with no negatives
The Quincy are akin to magic users like wizards that require focuses. The medallions act as a focus that they move the soul of the bankai to. This allowing them to use the bankai by focusing their reshi through, kinda like putting a colored lens over a flashlight. The Quincy acts as the battery providing the power. And the bankai is the bulb. Power+ bulb+ lens = desired lighting.
I thought that the Wandenreich tactics were really sound and smart and the way to deal with them as well. I understood that this temporally Hollowfication was not enough to make them able to tap into Hollow abilities but was enough to be toxic to the Quincies and in the case of Toshiro, manifest basic Hollow traits because of how his Zanpakuto work, logically other aesthetically flexible Bankai could also display these traits. It did make me think about what could be possible with application of the same principle but for Zanpakuto. Imagine if by way of isolating the Hyper regeneration of Hollow and incorporating it into the Asauchi creation process, you could get a Zanpakuto who's Bankai would repair itself and be impossible to stole.
Sure it would have been nice to get a full explanation to how the Bankai's were stolen, as well as seeing all the Captains who did get robbed get Hollowfied back in the day. But that just leaves more content that could be added to the anime if Kubo and the studio wants too. I'm not getting my hopes up though, but it would be cool to get.
I have a few problems with the concept and execution of Bankai stealing. For starters, I don't like how it codifies Bankai as a separate entity from Shikai and even the basic zanpakutou (which does at least go on to be important for Kyoraku and Zaraki). I preferred it when it was a sliding scale of initial to full release, as it felt more "spiritual", if that makes sense and feel like it would have been more of a shock if they stole the entire zanpakutou. For how it played out, it bothers me that it was done by Sternritter. They have enough interesting and unique stuff going for them to play with that stolen Bankai just clutters things up. Felt like it should have been another division of the Quincy army who lacked schrifts of their own.
People also are missing the obvious contradiction that is shown in the Story already If Quincy have this Violent toxic reaction to Hollow Reiatsu - how do you explain away Quilge absorbing Ayon and simply being mildly annoyed that it was ugly - Especially considering the fact he made it a point to say it Sklavarei, an ability of all quincy, not his "Letter"
IMO there wasn’t really enough of a struggle to actually arrive at the solution itself, I always imagined that it would’ve had something to do with freeing the Espada, like if Quilge survived and ichigo had to actually defeat him (maybe teaming up with grimmjow?) in order to turn the tides. Would also given Ichigo a much bigger role in the second invasion
It is interesting, what would have happened if the sternritter tried stealing the bankai of any of the vizard-captains during the first invasion? I like how Kubo just went off the scale with like, gritty and grimdark "shit has hit the fan"-moments, like the panel at 15:13
So there is some form of connection between the stolen bankai and their original wielder even if they're being used by someone else. That's a neat detail. Obviously a stolen Bankai doesn't vanish if their original owner is killed, as was the case for Sasakibe's. So I wonder to what degree that connection exists. Because as we know with Tosen, a shinigami can pick up another shinigami's zanpakuto and form a bond with it, which overwrites it in a way, but the Zanpakuto was still called the same.
After the anime coming back I’ve been obsessed with these videos ended up finding them because it was in my recommendations after watching some bleach brave souls videos keep up the amazing work 🫡
There is a detail you forgot The very beginning of the arc with the quincy enslaved arrancar attempting to steal Ichigo's bankai. It is the only time an arrancar is shown to attempt to do so via the quincy medallion, and to the one true shinigami hollow hybrid. This should have been another clue just how much a quincy could not handle a hollow's riatsu
Someone is club Kubo asked if the medallions the Quincies used was essentially taking Yhwach's ability Sankt Altar and weaponizing it somehow and Kubo said yes. My thoughts are the medallions are an extremely reishi absorbable substance that it can hold onto Yhwach's ability or found how to with something akin to kido to achieve the same result. Also since hollow reiatsu is poisonous to Quincies, it's most likely that Ebern the Arrancar was sent for Ichigo to have the best chance of absorbing his bankai since Ebern is essentially a hollow shinigami thus theoretically stealing a bankai with hollow shinigami reiatsu should theoretically be possible but unfortunately that wasn't the case.
A friend of mine thought about that too and we came to the conclusion that (in our opinion) it could be possible for a hollow to steal Ichigo's bankai with the medallion but since Tensa Zangetsu is so freakishly strong no arrancar could, realistically steal his bankai. Yhwach said so to Yama-Jii, he was the only one strong enough to steal Zanka No Tachi.
would have loved to have seen 4-1 Espadas fighting against the Wandenreich. The bulk of the hueco mundo forces consist of Neliel, Grimjow, and Harribel. Im not surprised Quilge was in charge of Hueco Mundo. Not to imply he's weak.
I just had to pause at 10:23 since you kept that panel on for a bit 😅, can't wait to see how much they censor Ichigo's mom. As for the these bankai, like many other rushed things in this arc, I hope they explain it more. Toushiro looked really good and hoped it remained like that
Oh yeah, remember when that was a thing for like two chapters? Definitely felt like Kubo was saying “nah, I changed my mind. Quincy can’t steal bankais anymore because I want to be able to reveal them without having to worry about them being stolen now.”
I’m so disappointed that we didn’t get to see Ywach use Yamamoto’s bankai after stealing it. It would have been so cool to see. I wish kubo could change this in the anime but he’s unlikely to
Awesome vid Tommo! I hope they add more to the bankai stealing sub arc in the anime it has a lot of potential to be even better than what we already got in the manga!
I love your videos! I watched the entire Bleach anime although I did not finish the Manga I am so hyped to see this last arc animated. The trailer was amazing especially the music and that last shot of Ichigo! I can't wait to watch your reviews. I bet you hit 200k subscribers by the emd of the year!
tbh this explains Ichigo's first Zonpaktuo not being an asauchi (or w/e their called) and why yawach nor any other quincy could steal his bankai Don't want to make a whole paragraph but essentially it's based on the importance of the souls. Hollows essentially amalgamations of souls and riatsu infused together rather than the soul controlling the riatsu (like the supreme guy's hand) and this prevents the Quincy from gaining the Arrancars powers. Ichigo further proves this point as his Zanpaktuo was created by him at the start, thus no Quincy could steal a part of him while all other bankai where only conduits using a third party and the medallions only transfers the power to them before being channeled into the Zanpaktuo. The pill basically forces the souls within the shinigami to hollowfy and temporarily capable of manifesting outside the persons body. This would explain why only 1 captain became some what hollofied while others didn't as his Bankai uses him as a medium and the rest are already manifested outside the body. The only difference is the sequence of channeling of power. Without Kubo explain in detail, it more or less seems like the sword infuses both powers to one and allows the communication of the host and "parasite" but the hollowfication infuses the power together before being channeled into the zanpaktuo
Im surprised you didn’t mention the connection more like the muramasa arc was sorta possible inspiration, though I don’t know much besides things from the game and aspects on how they start hollowfing bankai.
You know, Soi Fon's Bankai gives her a face mask already. Would be easy for Kubo to redesign it slightly for the anime version, give her a proper Hollowfied Bankai. Not sure how Komamura and Byakuya would look Hollofied, though. Would still like to see it though.
Hollowfied hitsugaya was awesome. I agree we should have seen hollowfied versions of the other captains as well. All of them would look amazing. I would also be interested in additional abilities granted by the hollowfication but that is probably unlikely to be revealed. Still would be cool for a hollowfied Komamura bankai move or a hollowfied Soi Fon special reveal!
I hope Kubo and the team can give more insight into the medallion in the anime.. cause the lack of information on the medallions is kind of frustrating cause they are such an important item..
Questions! 1) Do the quincies gain the x5-10 boost for having Bankai? 2) Does the x5-10 boost still exist or can the Soul reapers win without it (Overkill maybe)? 3) Are the quincies just wearing the bankai or can they activate it at will (because Yhwach stole the Head captain's bankai and you never see that again even after he dies)?
It seems the Hollowfication of captains and their bankai resulted in a forced separation from the tool the quincy used to hold the bankai.... it was gradual as the Hollowfication spread through the captain, so did it spread through the tool resulting in what we saw with the Hitsuguya fight in my opinion.
The way I see it, as you said, the quincy are experts at manipulating reishi. And the zanpakuto is a part of the shinigami's soul, shikai & bankai alike. Parts of the soul expressed using their reiatsu/reishi (never did get the actual difference between the two). So the bankais weren't actually stolen away from them, but moreso that expression/use of the bankai using reishi/reiatsu instead got siphoned from the shinigami. So they technically still have the bankai (as it's a part of themselves) they simply just lost the ability to express it for themselves as the spiritual energies required for this are actively being siphoned by the quincy. Sorta like a wire-tap. Which is why they got affected as soon as the captains underwent hollowfication.. It's an active connection between shinigami & quincy that allows the quincy to tap into the captain's very soul. Tho sasakibe's bankai still being used after his death sorta questions this. I guess that energy doesn't get entirely extinguished after death. Or at least, not right away
Stuff like this just reminds me that Soifon didn't really get to do anything else after getting her Bankai back. I know she's not really the most popular character out there but I hope we at least get to see her full fight against BG9 (who also didn't get enough time to shine) when the anime comes back.
I mean that's a bit of an issue with Kubo imo. He introduces waaaay too many characters at the start which doesn't allow much of them to get proper development.
@@maciejwucow1563 Exactly, he even abandons Chad's character despite giving him MASSIVE potential with that death punch in the arrancar arc. I'm hoping Kubo brings him back for the Hell arc.
More than Quincy vs Shinigami and/or Hollows... this is more of a conflict between the natural forces (the balance between Shinigami and Hollows) and the invasive force that disrupts the natural forces (Quincy) because one or more elements are deadly to them and the other part inherently fuels it.
I think the reason Soifon does have a mask is because her Bankai works differently from Toshiro's, with Soifon it's just her Shikai growing in size and turning into a rocket launcher, whereas Toshiro's grows around his body actively for the Bankai, allowing more wiggle room for the mask to be present as part of the Bankai, as a result I suspect Byakuya might have one as well, being made of the Senbonzakura blade "petals" and had Rukia had her Bankai at that time, her Bankai would have a mask of ice similar to Toshiro.
What upsets me is the Visored could've been the perfect vehicle to show how Hollow power is poison to the Quincy. Two of the three Visored captains have Bankais that can be used around others. Imagine if Kensei and Rose, upon hearing about the Bankai sealing, were among those who chose to sacrifice their Bankais in a coordinated effort to understand the techniqu. They're the obvious choices because they have Hollow masks to fallback on (power that's technically supposed to surpass a Shinigami in Bankai anyway). Their Bankais get stolen, they hollowfy, the Bankais snap back to their control, critically injuring whichever Sternritter they happen to be fighting. (Maybe go so far as the Sternritter themselves drop the stolen Bankais like hot potatoes when they see the masks, giving crucial in-verse evidence to Kisuke's explanation as opposed to puilling out of his ~~Kubo's~~ ass.). But its very clear Kubo favoured some characters over others. Mayuri was just.... ass-pull extraordinaire in that last arc... :/
No he knew hollow power is poison based off ichigos mom so he had a very good reasoning backing him i wish the visord just had used their masks in general in the fights but i wonder if they wore their masks wouldn't quincy also be their kryptonite? Couldn't it just be they get hit once and just die because quincy power obliterates hollows? Thats what we dont know because kubo rushed and thats the only other part i wish we get explained to us or see in a fight but im a fraid it might cost the life of one of our favorite visord boys if it is a both can one shot each other with their respective powers. And the final fight with ichigo doesnt help either cuz well ichigo has quincy powers merged with his hollow in perfect harmony and idk if a hollow powers would effect ywach the same as it would the others but thats what i hope oh and the ending ofc i want to see a better version of it. Tldr i want to see a better visord fight and use their masks during the fights and a better ending fight/ see ichigos bankai hahahahaha
I really do hope we get to know more in the anime when we get to this part. I hate the fact Kubo had to rush this final arc but I hope the anime gives us more information
I'm guessing the Bankai stealing medallions are actually old technology developed after their loss 1000 years ago but were made before they mastered Vollstandig. The Sternritter are at such a high level of strength that they don't even really need to steal Bankai's to give them an advantage. It was more of a flex on their part then a necessity, and it never hurts to weaken enemy forces when you can.
I really appreciate your content Tommo, but the fact you mentioned how the stealing of the Bankai is never really explained highlights one of my many problems I have with the final arc of Bleach. Stealling the captains Bankai is an awesome concept but really it was something that needed to be explained. Because that raises all sorts of questions. Like are the Bankai and Shikai linked? If so, wouldn't the Shikai be stolen as well? Don't get me wrong; the actual content about the captains lamenting their loss over their abilities(something Fake Karakura did an excellent job emphasizing just how powerful they were, Kyoraku and Starrk) and that struggle is great in concept. I love when stories strip away the heroes main abilities and in turn they need to use their natural skills in order to defeat the bad guys. But as you admitted, this isn't that well fleshed out. It's a shame because with enough time and not having to face pressure, I 100% had faith that this element could have been phenomenal. But as it stands the idea comes off as very hollow(pun intended). My hope is that the anime adaptation will in fact expand on this and many things. That Bleach's final arc will be like Yu Yu Hakusho's final arc being adapted and will vindicate Kubo in the eyes of more casual fans who hated this arc.
Also another miss opportunity about the Bankai Stealing plot, none of the Vizards didn’t try to use Bankai in the first invasion. I would’ve love to see a Quincy shock in disbelief when they can not steal a Vizard’s Bankai. So that way, the Gotei 13 would have a clue of how to counter the Stealing Bankai medallion.
@@Rodolphin that would have been perfect and I remember thinking the same thing and the hint was in ichigo’s bankai not being sealed. His hollow powers are mixed with his soul reaper powers which is why the medallion doesn’t work
Dam, if Visards really missed their opportunity during the first invasion to destroy Quincies with their bankai, since they're already immuned to the medallions. But, as much as there were many missed opportunities with that arc, I really liked that it was Urahara who came up with the idea how to regain the bankai. That just shows how smart he's and why he is one of the 5 secret war potentials.
Toshiro's hollowfied bankai is one of the coolest looking things ever. I wish we had more time with him in that form cuz holy cow, that shit was awesome!
I don't know why I am getting chills lately just thinking that I will get to see my favorite Kenpachi in his Bankai form also the final masterpiece of Komamura.
That’s what I want more than anything!!!! For Ywach to use the most powerful bankai in the series!! People were hoping he would use it against Ichibei but it never happened. Ywach would look so cool covered in flames
They could also go with the easy option of yhwach lost it since the medallion lost its powers temporarily and so it just vanished because has brought up by cang du the medallion also keeps the bankai around
19:00 - My theory is the device hones in on a 'signature' of the bankai, by changing it with some holo-reatsu it changed the frequency and couldn't hold it. Idk, something to that effect. I really like the idea that the Soul Reapers where only okay with this because they came to terms with Itchigo and his 'holo' form. Where once they saw it as absolutely forbidden and always evil, now they're fully aware that it can be controlled and used for good. In a sense, that idea means that if not for Itchigo and the Hacudo Mundo arc, the Soul Society would have ended in this attack. Totally continues the theme that if Itchigo didn't change the attitude of the Goti13 - they'd be dead.
I loved their Bankai returning, but I had hoped the captains would have been able to defeat their respective Quincies without the use of their Bankai. Basically showing that the captains were more than just what their Zanpakuto could offer them. Which is pretty much why Yoruichi is such a badass.
@@maciejwucow1563 To be a little fairer.... her opponent was broken asf, and she did better 1v1 than anyone else did against him aside from kisuke, who had to use his bankai, and a resurrection grimjaw.

I must say I hope the anime shows when byakuya does that I hope there's a physical change and maybe him having a flashback to when he saw ichigos hollow
I think what's understated in this video is the tie from "Bankai stealing" to "The blade is me". Effectively, by stealing the Bankai of a person, you're stealing a part of themselves. Which is why you see so many of these captains who ostensibly should be quite competent even without their Bankai become so distraught. It also establishes how hollowfying oneself can impact someone's stolen Bankai. You're hollowfied, so your Bankai (which is you) is also hollowfied.
There are so many moving parts during a war arc that a lot of authors don't spend enough time on areas many of us would like to have lingered on. Hollowfied Bankai being one. Ideas are simply left unexplored. Such as how not only does this process prevent Bankai from being stolen, but it should make it more lethal towards Quincy.
What do you think about Quilge absorbing Allon (/Ayon) tho? Even if it wasn't an actual hollow it was 100% hollow reiatsu. He didn't get any side effects whatsoever

And yet the vizards don't use their hollow powers when fighting the quincies for some unknown reason. It's like kubo WANTED them to take nonstop Ls.
Yeah kubo definitely did them a disservice. He could have at least given someone like Shinji a win against one of the sternritter
This bugged the fuck out of me back in the day and did put a sour taste in my mouth. Both explanations would have been acceptable, but no. We got nothing and watched the visards get bodied like they were nothing.

@@jeepamir508
The Quincy Schrift abilities aren't YHWACH's.

That's what I meant.
They cannot have the same abilities as Yhwach, since he's the Father of all Quincy. But he could've taught them how to use some of his abilities even a little bit, just like you've mentioned with Sankt Altar.
The more I keep thinking about this plot point the more I want to believe that Kubo originally had the Visored playing a bigger role in the TYBW arc.

Let them come in a fight against some of the weaker Sternritter with the Shinigami, give them some shine, and then after the Shin'eiyaku pills are developed, have them go after Gerard. So many questions about that guy lol...
Rose and kensei should not have been beaten. Who cares about bg9?
One thing that sticks out to me about Histugaya getting the partial hollow mask, are the developmental tropes that have had implications on his bankai’s maturity. Hitsugaya is still an adolescent, and has not reached his prime whether that be physically or with his reiatsu. I think Kubo making it apparent that the hollow reiatsu had unique physical manifestations is a nice duality to the later use of his bankai vs. Gerard Valkyrie in which he forcibly matures his body in order to bear the full berth of his Hyorinmaru’s abilities. It really hits home how juvenile Toshiro is in the grand scheme of things, regardless of his prowess as a captain.
that "ice hollow" bankai of hitsugaya looks just so "cool", it feels almost illegal for it to look so good
It should even be illegal to utter that pun.

They had no idea what the hell it was, the hollow reaitsu also causes issues, and not even ichigo knew wtf his bankai was at the time
@@LuciferArc1 yeah that's basically what I'm saying but they CAN steal hollowfied bankai and hollow reiatsu, it's just poison to them.
@@babaG819 I thought it could’ve been because Ichigo didn’t have a proper Zanpaktou since he didn’t have an Asauchi

Toshiro with a hollow mask was so dope. I loved all his forms in the arc

I personally think it's more fitting to think of it as the Guincy making use of the same technology that the Substitute Shinigami Badge worked on
I think this is the first sponsor ! Congratulations MrTommo! Your channel has really exponentially grown
I love that you do this because the way you go into detail about this series is something I enjoy
I loved the whole idea of bankai stealing medallion i felt it was very well thought out and a good flip for the series.. great video and excellent discussion as always man
Maybe that's the reason Ichigo dislikes being hollwofied at the beginning of the show

People also are missing the obvious contradiction that is shown in the Story already
If Quincy have this Violent toxic reaction to Hollow Reiatsu - how do you explain away Quilge absorbing Ayon and simply being mildly annoyed that it was ugly - Especially considering the fact he made it a point to say it Sklavarei, an ability of all quincy, not his "Letter"
After the anime coming back I’ve been obsessed with these videos ended up finding them because it was in my recommendations after watching some bleach brave souls videos keep up the amazing work 🫡
There is a detail you forgot
The very beginning of the arc with the quincy enslaved arrancar attempting to steal Ichigo's bankai. It is the only time an arrancar is shown to attempt to do so via the quincy medallion, and to the one true shinigami hollow hybrid. This should have been another clue just how much a quincy could not handle a hollow's riatsu
and yet...Quilge Opie does just that
Someone is club Kubo asked if the medallions the Quincies used was essentially taking Yhwach's ability Sankt Altar and weaponizing it somehow and Kubo said yes.

I love your videos! I watched the entire Bleach anime although I did not finish the Manga I am so hyped to see this last arc animated. The trailer was amazing especially the music and that last shot of Ichigo! I can't wait to watch your reviews. I bet you hit 200k subscribers by the emd of the year!
tbh this explains Ichigo's first Zonpaktuo not being an asauchi (or w/e their called) and why yawach nor any other quincy could steal his bankai
Don't want to make a whole paragraph but essentially it's based on the importance of the souls.
Its always so nice to see the two of you together on screen you two are truly an adorable couple!
Your absolutely right we should've been able too see more fights transformations and characters perform this tactic 😢😭.
💜
Great video as always! I love the concept of hollowfied bankai and Toshiro's coolest form.
Think it come back-in the Hell arc.
His hollow powers are mixed with his soul reaper powers which is why the medallion doesn’t work
@@gammafrost 💚
Dam, if Visards really missed their opportunity during the first invasion to destroy Quincies with their bankai, since they're already immuned to the medallions.
But, as much as there were many missed opportunities with that arc, I really liked that it was Urahara who came up with the idea how to regain the bankai. That just shows how smart he's and why he is one of the 5 secret war potentials.
I always loved how Hitsugaya's Hollowfied Bankai looks more like a Ressureción more than anything else
Not sure if you noticed it, but hollowfied Hyourinmaru also has his own mask, there's little ice teeth along the jaw, kind of like Grimmjow's mask.
The advert reminds me of Rengoku (Demon Slayer) eating in the train and shouting "Umai" 😍❤️❤️❤️😂😂

This is effectively a Bleach poetry channel now
Imagine if Yhwach actually gets to use Zanka No Tachi in the new anime.
Probably just to summon zombies but still.
@@gammafrost 💙
it would be drastically weaker if yhwach used it
One of the question to Kubo answered it. it works similar to Sankt Alter and Yhwach lend them this power.
Yes she's a very very awesome character ✌.
@@maciejwucow1563
To be a little fairer.... her opponent was broken asf, and she did better 1v1 than anyone else did against him aside from kisuke, who had to use his bankai, and a resurrection grimjaw.
Lol Mr. Hat and clogs the ultimate plot device 🤣
I hope we get to see soi fon and the others Holification even if it’s temporary.
Wouldn’t u say thought that the captains and soul reapers are fighting the Hollows throughout the series to protect the world of living and make sure that the Quincies never return as well?
I must say I hope the anime shows when byakuya does that I hope there's a physical change and maybe him having a flashback to when he saw ichigos hollow
💜
Another great video as usual! I would love to see you discuss/rank filler arcs and movies in a future video!
You could say the fullbringer arc was an introduction to reiustu being sealed away into a pendant
What do you think about Quilge absorbing Allon (/Ayon) tho? Even if it wasn't an actual hollow it was 100% hollow reiatsu. He didn't get any side effects whatsoever
Good point…
Maybe quilge is like, more immune due to his jail shrift? Therefore being all the more reason he was the one dispatched to hueco mundo? 🤔
It’s a plot hole, that’s a common thing in bleach tho.
Hollow reiatsu is poisonous to all Quincy but some have a better resistance than others Liloto and Quilge seem to be 2 of the best examples of this.
@@bqw2094 its actually explained in the novels quilges technique allows him to decompose the hollow reatsu
