Love these redesigns this just goes to show how important character design is as it can tell you about the character they should feel like alive characters not cooperate statues and i just love these redesigns for how unique and different each of them are.

I also wanna see Mighty and Ray, as well as Fang, Bean, and Bark, since SEGA themselves haven't given any of them Modern designs yet (Sonic Superstars is teasing 3D Fang at the very least, but based on the context, it'll more likely still be a classic version of him, as opposed to a proper modern design).
The Metal Sonic redesign could be a cool upgrade concept. Like, one day, someone breaks his jet and he’s left slow, so they start exploiting that, and Eggman responds by adding wheels for emergency use.
Never realized how much was missing until I saw your redesigns! All those extra lines and robotic features did wonders, he looks perfect! And those wheels, what an amazing idea! I genuinely want to see that implemented in the games!!!

Your redesigns are really fun because you look to improve on what is already there rather than create something completely different. I love different redesigns of the characters, but this has it's own charm that I really enjoy, plus they are genuinely good redesigns and I agree with pretty much all the changes you've made so far! Maybe you could do Silver and the Chaotix next? Since I've always found Charmy's model in particular a little weird but I can't quiet put my finger on it. Or you could do Silver and Blaze and another two characters if you want to do pairs that go together. Either way, these are really great!!

I've been waiting for this follow-up! Eggman and metal were my favorites. Idk why Eggman's mouth and mustache are so small now when his grin is like his most defining feature. Can't wait to see your takes on the Chaotix or the Freedom Fighters. Also, I can't wait to see more non-sonic projects too. Keep it up
I think your knuckles and Metal sonic designs are pretty perfect, bc i too hate how skinny they make knuckles look. I actually have always loved the proportions of the sonic boom designs, and i love love the movie design for him, so its great to see that brought into the modern sonic style. I also personally like the lankier limbs on sonic and shadow, it gives them this..idk..very sleek, fast feeling. Like a runner should look. But i thi k your designs for them are still nice! The one thing i do have beef with is rouge. Saying she looks like a "hooker" originally is....pretty bad? She doesnt need to be sexualized to be taken seriously, and the way people push for her to be modest feels really bizzare to me. With the variety of female characters we have, her sexy look feels like a calculated personal choice, and i dont thonk taking that away does anything for her character at all. I just think folks need to think on why they struggle with recognizing her character as legitimate just because she uses her appeal and sexualiy as a tool. That out of the way, i'd be interested in seeing a mighty redesign. In fact i am desperate for it, his og design is just. Awful. Only his ears even remotely resemble an armadillo, and for years i had no idea what he even was supposed to Be. Even just giving him some overlapping plating on his shell and a longer muzzle (and not just a weird super long nose???) Would go a LONG way to making him look like what he actually is. Also a tail. Jesus christ.

The only critism I have to make aside from there weird torso to head portion, is there hands being so small. Take a look at the Classic Toei Sonic and look at his hands. Sonic and all the characters were meant to have big hands, hints to why Sonic’s design was inspired by Felix & Mickey Mouse. You kinda took away one of the core elements of what makes the Sonic Characters design Iconic and what the creators were going for. Sonic’s cartoony and non realistic looks is what makes him the most appealing

I think most of these fall into the category of reinterpretations rather than redesigns (which just shows how good the original designs are), I think the interpretation of the current models is where the main problem lies (just a vocabulary nitpik that I may be wrong about). I love the pads you added to Shadow's gloves. Rouge is the only one here who I would categorize as a true redesign, and one she desperately needs. Just giving her a full bodysuit is a massive improvement. You also fixed some issues that I didn't realize existed, like Eggman's mustache is just plain BROWN!? or how weird shadows quills are, or that fact that Metal doesn't have a tail? Overall, good stuff.
You know how sega is, when a few ideas work in an otherwise flawed product, rather than salvage what they could, just start from scratch, latter rinse and repeat!🤦
I personally would have egg and mustache look well groomed near the base of his lip, but it frays out like how it does now, to symbolize how half baked his plans get
Nah Knuckles isn't the same to me, he's a bit bulkier and buffer than his previous designs (except for movie and boom) he's very similar to movie Knuckles but still has the game Knuckles look, Sonic looks like all designs together in which I love I love the Knuckles design the most tho
The truth with metal sonic is i think tires in the middle of shoes is more of a weird and unique idea and the flying is supposed to dedicate and show how he can go faster if he doesnt have to use his legs as we see he runs fast but flying helps with more speed for metal.
Metal doesn't need wheels because he has a jet engine. He's created to be faster than Sonic through any means necessary, not be a better runner. It is also way more useful as seen in IDW. In the fight between Sonic, Silver, Metal and Starline, the Platypus points out that it's "difficult to get traction in deep snow, isn't it? If only you had a turbine instead of legs."
Hot take but I don't think there's anything wrong with the models or designs currently used by the models. I think it's purely with how the models and designs are being used in pretty boring and lacklustre ways, like they don't do anything with the lighting to make the renders and models pop out in any significant way but if you look at any good fan renders; you'll only see lighting that really emphasizes the form of the characters, like you'll see rim lighting across one side of the character which emphasizes the shadows on the other side while the current renders just don't have that same pop and just look dull in comparison. The models aren't also used in any dynamic or interesting poses, there's no use of forced perspective unless you're talking Sonic Prime in putting the characters in interesting and unique poses, really stretching the proportions to bring out the expressiveness in the characters. I've seen people take what are basically the current design of the cast and animate and pose them in a way more interesting ways than the current renders do. So I don't think that the designs need changing(Though I would love Knuckles to be a bit more buff). Just how they use the designs.
Exactly, the models aren’t inherently bad they just continue to misuse them over and over again. It’s just sad that we’ve been given these lackluster renders for over a decade and they’ve just progressively gotten worse. But hey I figured just making these designs it at least shows them that we just want to see that quality these characters deserve.
@@danspex It's weird, for the comics. They've hired Nibroc-Roc to make renders for them and they've made some amazing renders, so it's not like they haven't got the talent to hire or haven't hired outside talent before. My only real excuse to how SEGA can still have such unsatisfying renders is that all the renders aren't made by a case by case basis but are instead taken from a library of already existing older renders from the early 2010's or something. I'm looking forward to your next video, personally; I'd be eager to see how you'd redesign Classic Sonic. Would he lean more towards his American design or his Japanese design, or be like Generations where they combined the two? I've definitely seen recently a large influx of love towards Classic Sonic's Japanese design with the darker fur and slimmer body. Also massive love towards the Junio design.
One thing I noticed (and maybe I'm just imagining it) about metal Sonic is that you separated his ears a bit more. Looks much better when they're a bit further apart
These look really cool, I love how eggmans goggles pop more since they’re a lighter shade of blue, gouges design in cool but the heart kinda sticks out since it doesn’t really blend with the rest of the suit so maybe put it a bit higher or make it darker, and metals design just looks awesome, I would love to see you do the chaotix, cream and big next, maybe super sonic
Fantastic video, and I've also seen Part 1 and it was great too. I love how you did the redesigns and it fits so perfectly. And as for Part 3, my opinions for the next set of characters are Mighty, Ray & The Chaotix. Since Mighty and Ray have returned since Sonic Mania (Plus), I think it's fair if they have modern redesigns and they can be based on the Archie comics with a little "classic" twist within.
I really like the design of the bar on shadows shoes but it being a fuel bar doesn’t make sense since his shoes are most likely powered by his own chaos energy. I like the design aspect though
The people saying their just the same designs think their getting a full redesign, these are more improvements than anything tbh. Idk why but seeing these kinda things fans do to the characters just makes me really happy for some reason
Love this video, and if it were me, l wouldn't had these insane ideas like you did, unless l had to focus on those issues. Hey, love your videos! I have a video idea for you. Since you commented and critiqued the MCU designs. I was wondering how would you redesign many of the main characters in the MCU, maybe make them more comic accurate?
Rouge's design isn't quite "usual as the others". I feel like your design really fixes that. I also wouldn't give shadow red slits on his shoes or give metal sonic wheels. They seem insignificant. Also, if metal sonic has wheels, what is the point of his back thruster. The back thruster is one of the most iconic things about metal sonic and having wheels be the way that metal sonic keep up with sonic just doesn't sit well with me.
if you are gonna keep going with this, i suggest part 3 would have 5 characters rather then 4, just to push out all of the knuckles Chaotix crew (plus ray who will have nowhere else to go if it was 4 characters) and besides they were the next main line sonic characters (unless you count advance and battle in where cream vanilla and gemeral made debus)
How about Silver? I like his Naive personality but thanks to other teenagers I can't ignore his "Quil-style" anymore :( I actually tried doing my own redesigns a while back, pretty much changing them entirely. Made Sonic sleeker for his speed, Shadow more Alien for his Black arms-Heritage, and Had no idea for Tails so just gave him overalls XD Didn't do anymore cause I hated the final product, except for Shadow, he looked cool at the time.
Let's not forget to keep his future motif. Not including that is one of the disappointing things I have with IDW. I hate how IDW just over exaggerated the cinnamon roll thing and make that his whole character and made him more cartoony and did his powers dirty.
I think i'd love to see Blaze, Scrouge from the archie comics (because hes just a green sonic), possibly Neo-metal sonic and maybe Tikal. Incredible content as always btw.
4:54 I actually prefer how the 2d art has Shadows spines bent, it makes him look cooler to me and I wish the current 3d model reflected that better instead of that slight curve they have. How you did it still looks good though.👍
If you do a third part I’d love to see Silver since he’s only had one or two designs since he first appeared (if you count 06 and modern as two different designs).
Metal was actually made to be Sonic’s superior which is why he can’t fly and stuff they didn’t add the other stuff because it probably wouldn’t fit in the style and it makes it feel probably over designed and they didn’t give him a tail to make him look more robotic even though every thing I stated I like the concept
Seems weird rouges arms are bigger than both Sonic and Shadow, considering she's not known for having insane strength feats, but Sonic and Shadow are pretty strong and have been shown to be that i feel like Sonic and Shadow should have the thickest arms next to knuckles of course
If i have to be honest i despise how their limbs are shorter, there's a reason as too why the 06 models are my favourites, a shame really cause I like everything about the redesigns

I like to think that the person that made Rouge's original look was known in Sonic Team as the "Horny Worker," and they only noticed how stripper-like she was when they had to animate Prime so they thought "Okay, maybe we tone it down by a lot." I hope they stick with the Prime design since it looks both better and cooler than her other one.
There needs to be added length to Shadow's arms. Other than that, Shadow's redesign is pretty decent. I really like the choices you made with your Rouge redesign, however I think her wings show be attached to her arms like an actual bat. Just an Idea. Take it or leave, ya know? 🤷♂️ 😁
Honestly, I wouldn't really redesign Shadow too much (besides making his chest fluff bigger like you did) But I'd definitely fix his personality to the one he's got in sa2, heroes, and 06 (maybe other games too ?) instead of the edgy personality they gave him in his *own* game. We barely see him interact with team dark anymore :( OH AND I'D MAKE IT SO THEY STOP ASSOCIATING ROUGE WITH TEAM SONIC, SHE'S IN TEAM DARK, NOT SONICS TEAM
The sonic riders model for eggman has a lot of the changes you wish the modern model would have, does that mean you prefer that games model? Cause I kinda do to be honest, I find him looking both cartoonish and mad scientist, especially with the wild and huge mustache
3:35 his hands are way worse in Sonic Prime because in Sonic Prime his arms are even skinnier and also his body is so much smaller and shorter and his head is huge this is a problem that Sonic and Shadow have where they can't cross their arms properly and their hands almost touch the ground and their proportions look incredibly weird because their hands are too big.
I’ll have to admit, your designs are really, really epic! Though I have some criticisms… #1: Do people seriously make a ruckus over the shade of blue Sonic is supposed to be, despite the fact that back then Sonic didn’t even have a consistent shade of blue. #2: Wasted potential to redesign Metal Overlord (you know, the phase Metal Sonic gets in Sonic Heroes). (That is quite literally the only criticisms I have)! XD Oh wait, #3: the things between Metal Sonic’s feet are joints… you removed the only way he could move his feet! And, due to him no longer be able to fly, and the fact he’s canonically top-heavy, he can’t even move! XD
One thing that bothers me about modern Metal Sonic’s design is his head shape (specifically from the front). You might not have noticed this but back during Sonic Adventure through Heroes, he had a different head shape where his “quills” were larger and the bottom ones were angled lower but still curved the same way which made his head look better when seen from the front cause you could actually see them. On the model we have now, they’re shorter and were angled higher, making his head shaped like the Taco Bell logo from the front. It might not be a big deal, but it’s an opinion and pet peeve of mine that I wanted to share and to see if anyone else agrees with me.
I really like these redesigns I would love to see them in 3-D but I think my only problem is sonic and shadow. They look great personally, I just like the longer quills I think you should make the exact same redesigns and try to make it look a bit more edgy, not edgy as an emo edgy as in cool like the art in sa1 and sa2 with the longer quills just my opinion
These redesigns look amazing! After some thought, I'm thinking Silver, Blaze, Cream, and Omega would be some interesting next choices. There's nothing particular that I dislike about them (besides the same critiques for Sonic and Shadow for Silver), but I'd be interested to see your takes on them. Also, a little question if you don't mind. Did you get the idea of Metal having roller skates from the older Iron Man comics? I remember that on some occasions, mainly when he was low on power, Iron Man would sometimes use roller skates to get around. It just reminded me of those comics. I do really like the idea though, even if I prefer him flying. Maybe Metal could still mainly fly, but if his jet turbine was ever damaged, he could use some skates (preferably rocket powered ones) to retreat if he ever needs to.
Huh I never knew that about the old iron man comics, but I got the idea for his feet to be tires because they kinda already looked like that to begin with, and I thought it would look cool with him skating around doing tricks lol
@DanSpex. Oh, I guess that makes sense. Metal using roller skates would be pretty funny, but the tricks he could pull off could be pretty insane. Also, the Iron Man roller skates are a little more obscure, so that makes perfect sense as well. I think it made a reappearance in a couple other issues and I remember a short joke about them in one of his shows, but they have just been sitting in the box of random stuff Iron Man has lol.

Shadow's speed doesn't come from his shoes. The offiical word is that Sonic and Shadow are on par in every regard.

The models aren't also used in any dynamic or interesting poses, there's no use of forced perspective unless you're talking Sonic Prime in putting the characters in interesting and unique poses, really stretching the proportions to bring out the expressiveness in the characters. I've seen people take what are basically the current design of the cast and animate and pose them in a way more interesting ways than the current renders do.
So I don't think that the designs need changing(Though I would love Knuckles to be a bit more buff). Just how they use the designs.
Exactly, the models aren’t inherently bad they just continue to misuse them over and over again. It’s just sad that we’ve been given these lackluster renders for over a decade and they’ve just progressively gotten worse. But hey I figured just making these designs it at least shows them that we just want to see that quality these characters deserve.
@@danspex It's weird, for the comics. They've hired Nibroc-Roc to make renders for them and they've made some amazing renders, so it's not like they haven't got the talent to hire or haven't hired outside talent before.
My only real excuse to how SEGA can still have such unsatisfying renders is that all the renders aren't made by a case by case basis but are instead taken from a library of already existing older renders from the early 2010's or something.
I'm looking forward to your next video, personally; I'd be eager to see how you'd redesign Classic Sonic. Would he lean more towards his American design or his Japanese design, or be like Generations where they combined the two? I've definitely seen recently a large influx of love towards Classic Sonic's Japanese design with the darker fur and slimmer body. Also massive love towards the Junio design.
One thing I noticed (and maybe I'm just imagining it) about metal Sonic is that you separated his ears a bit more. Looks much better when they're a bit further apart
These look really cool, I love how eggmans goggles pop more since they’re a lighter shade of blue, gouges design in cool but the heart kinda sticks out since it doesn’t really blend with the rest of the suit so maybe put it a bit higher or make it darker, and metals design just looks awesome, I would love to see you do the chaotix, cream and big next, maybe super sonic

Fantastic video, and I've also seen Part 1 and it was great too. I love how you did the redesigns and it fits so perfectly. And as for Part 3, my opinions for the next set of characters are Mighty, Ray & The Chaotix. Since Mighty and Ray have returned since Sonic Mania (Plus), I think it's fair if they have modern redesigns and they can be based on the Archie comics with a little "classic" twist within.
I really like the design of the bar on shadows shoes but it being a fuel bar doesn’t make sense since his shoes are most likely powered by his own chaos energy. I like the design aspect though

Technically Shadow's shoe runs off Chaos energy and seeing as shadow is filled to the brim with it, I don't think a

Rouge's design isn't quite "usual as the others". I feel like your design really fixes that. I also wouldn't give shadow red slits on his shoes or give metal sonic wheels. They seem insignificant. Also, if metal sonic has wheels, what is the point of his back thruster. The back thruster is one of the most iconic things about metal sonic and having wheels be the way that metal sonic keep up with sonic just doesn't sit well with me.
You should redesign Sally, Cosmo, Manic and Sonia! How they can look if they get introduced in canon!

if you are gonna keep going with this, i suggest part 3 would have 5 characters rather then 4, just to push out all of the knuckles Chaotix crew (plus ray who will have nowhere else to go if it was 4 characters) and besides they were the next main line sonic characters (unless you count advance and battle in where cream vanilla and gemeral made debus)

I actually tried doing my own redesigns a while back, pretty much changing them entirely. Made Sonic sleeker for his speed, Shadow more Alien for his Black arms-Heritage, and Had no idea for Tails so just gave him overalls XD Didn't do anymore cause I hated the final product, except for Shadow, he looked cool at the time.
Definitely have a few ideas for silver and those are cool ideas for the characters! Would love to see what they look like!
Let's not forget to keep his future motif. Not including that is one of the disappointing things I have with IDW. I hate how IDW just over exaggerated the cinnamon roll thing and make that his whole character and made him more cartoony and did his powers dirty.

Metal was actually made to be Sonic’s superior which is why he can’t fly and stuff they didn’t add the other stuff because it probably wouldn’t fit in the style and it makes it feel probably over designed and they didn’t give him a tail to make him look more robotic even though every thing I stated I like the concept
Seems weird rouges arms are bigger than both Sonic and Shadow, considering she's not known for having insane strength feats, but Sonic and Shadow are pretty strong and have been shown to be that i feel like Sonic and Shadow should have the thickest arms next to knuckles of course
If i have to be honest i despise how their limbs are shorter, there's a reason as too why the 06 models are my favourites, a shame really cause I like everything about the redesigns

I like to think that the person that made Rouge's original look was known in Sonic Team as the "Horny Worker," and they only noticed how stripper-like she was when they had to animate Prime so they thought "Okay, maybe we tone it down by a lot." I hope they stick with the Prime design since it looks both better and cooler than her other one.

There needs to be added length to Shadow's arms. Other than that, Shadow's redesign is pretty decent. I really like the choices you made with your Rouge redesign, however I think her wings show be attached to her arms like an actual bat. Just an Idea. Take it or leave, ya know? 🤷♂️ 😁

Honestly, I wouldn't really redesign Shadow too much (besides making his chest fluff bigger like you did) But I'd definitely fix his personality to the one he's got in sa2, heroes, and 06 (maybe other games too ?) instead of the edgy personality they gave him in his *own* game. We barely see him interact with team dark anymore :(

The sonic riders model for eggman has a lot of the changes you wish the modern model would have, does that mean you prefer that games model? Cause I kinda do to be honest, I find him looking both cartoonish and mad scientist, especially with the wild and huge mustache

3:35 his hands are way worse in Sonic Prime because in Sonic Prime his arms are even skinnier and also his body is so much smaller and shorter and his head is huge this is a problem that Sonic and Shadow have where they can't cross their arms properly and their hands almost touch the ground and their proportions look incredibly weird because their hands are too big.

I’ll have to admit, your designs are really, really epic! Though I have some criticisms…
#1: Do people seriously make a ruckus over the shade of blue Sonic is supposed to be, despite the fact that back then Sonic didn’t even have a consistent shade of blue.
#2: Wasted potential to redesign Metal Overlord (you know, the phase Metal Sonic gets in Sonic Heroes).
(That is quite literally the only criticisms I have)! XD
Oh wait, #3: the things between Metal Sonic’s feet are joints… you removed the only way he could move his feet! And, due to him no longer be able to fly, and the fact he’s canonically top-heavy, he can’t even move! XD
One thing that bothers me about modern Metal Sonic’s design is his head shape (specifically from the front). You might not have noticed this but back during Sonic Adventure through Heroes, he had a different head shape where his “quills” were larger and the bottom ones were angled lower but still curved the same way which made his head look better when seen from the front cause you could actually see them. On the model we have now, they’re shorter and were angled higher, making his head shaped like the Taco Bell logo from the front. It might not be a big deal, but it’s an opinion and pet peeve of mine that I wanted to share and to see if anyone else agrees with me.
I really like these redesigns I would love to see them in 3-D but I think my only problem is sonic and shadow. They look great personally, I just like the longer quills I think you should make the exact same redesigns and try to make it look a bit more edgy, not edgy as an emo edgy as in cool like the art in sa1 and sa2 with the longer quills just my opinion
These redesigns look amazing! After some thought, I'm thinking Silver, Blaze, Cream, and Omega would be some interesting next choices. There's nothing particular that I dislike about them (besides the same critiques for Sonic and Shadow for Silver), but I'd be interested to see your takes on them. Also, a little question if you don't mind. Did you get the idea of Metal having roller skates from the older Iron Man comics? I remember that on some occasions, mainly when he was low on power, Iron Man would sometimes use roller skates to get around. It just reminded me of those comics. I do really like the idea though, even if I prefer him flying. Maybe Metal could still mainly fly, but if his jet turbine was ever damaged, he could use some skates (preferably rocket powered ones) to retreat if he ever needs to.
Huh I never knew that about the old iron man comics, but I got the idea for his feet to be tires because they kinda already looked like that to begin with, and I thought it would look cool with him skating around doing tricks lol
@DanSpex. Oh, I guess that makes sense. Metal using roller skates would be pretty funny, but the tricks he could pull off could be pretty insane. Also, the Iron Man roller skates are a little more obscure, so that makes perfect sense as well. I think it made a reappearance in a couple other issues and I remember a short joke about them in one of his shows, but they have just been sitting in the box of random stuff Iron Man has lol.
