UPDATE: I’m getting a lot of comments about WiFi - Amtrak’s cross country routes do not have it! So even if you’ve taken other routes these do not have it :) I only have a few overnight trains left on my US bucket list, so I was really excited to take this one to Los Angeles! As a Midwesterner I loveeeee the views of the Southwest so much. How y'all feeling about this ride? Which activity would you do?
@@IzzyOnTheMove I just returned from that trip, and the day trip via VIA Rail's new Venture train was cool!😀 With regard to Amtrak's Adirondack, please note that that train soon (if not already) will be combined at NYC Penn Station with the Maple Leaf train (which leaves 90 min. before the Adirondack's time), and then Adirondack passengers will disembark at Albany-Rensselaer Station (NY) for a 2 hr layover! While there's a restaurant upstairs with tasty food, it has very limited seating. Besides that small resto and the bathroom facilities, there isn't anything to do at the station. There wouldn't be enough time to taxi to Albany proper and, say, tour the Capitol building, or to dine somewhere, and then taxi back to the station. Forget it; many passengers would miss the Adirondack when it pulls out of Albany-Rensselaer. Because of all of that chaos, I'm glad I traveled to Québec province last week. After a summer hiatus due to heat concerns and trackwork, the Adirondack returned in September. I almost had booked my trip for late November for the Christmastime ambience and activities in Montréal and Québec City. Fingers crossed I'll make that trip in November or December 2025. But first I hope to return to the province next spring and finally get to experiencing a sugaring-off in Québec's countryside followed by a meal in a sugar shack.🤞🏼
I’m a solo traveler now. Taken a couple of solo cruises on Virgin Voyage recently-highly recommend. VV is adults only, so no worries about getting stuck dining with a family…😊. Decades ago, me and my mom took Amtrak from Northern Cali, to Texas-3 day trip. I was 19 yrs old at the time so didn’t really appreciate the journey then. Mom is now 91 w/dementia, so she doesn’t remember that trip, but I do😊. She enjoys me sharing our journey with her❤❤. I still take short trips on Amtrak. The train cars are so outdated. They would get more riders if they did simple upgrades: food, wifi, phone charging outlets…
I love this so much. As a writer, I've always wanted to do a train ride and just work on my novel (20 years in the making) lol. Will definitely have to book one for next year.

I took this train with my mom from Milwaukee to Los Angeles to visit family. This was the mid-1980s, and it was one of the most memorable trips I’ve ever had.
Interesting. What Amtrak calls a roomette on the VIA Canadian is a sleeperberth. They have the curtains but don't lock and have no outlets, you have to charge your stuff in the bathroom lol (2 plugs for 6 people) so that multi plug is a great idea! Meals are also included on sleeper. Then they do have roomettes with a door and a private shower and some walking space inside, beds and chairs separate. Berths are 6 to a shower. I usually get a lower berth (window).

Aww I love this so much! My daughter and I love taking the Brightline train from Central FL to South FL to visit family. It's a very short ride compared to this. I know we would love a cross country trip like this one. You made it look so fun! A trip like this is definitely on my travel bucket list!!! ❤
Loved this! Thank you! I love train travel (always in the sleeper car) - I usually do the Coast of California. I just booked my first cross country trip, and I'm really looking forward to it. Not really staying at my destination, just wanting to travel across (to and from wherever).
I did this train trip in two parts back in 2015. Part one was KC (where I was living at the time and where I'm at in my picture on here) to LA, then to Emeryville(SF) via the Coast Starlight for a wedding. Then I was on the 2015 NerdTrain where we did the Seattle to Chicago Empire Builder and then I went home via the Chief. I am overdue a long-distance trip, namely doing the Coast Starlight again!
girl I took Amtrak for my 2 week vacation because of you! The one I was on did have WI-FI , however they make you limit how much you stream because it's so many people on the train. The one and only thing I hated was the lights stay on all night and I can't sleep with lights on, so the next time Im getting a sleeper. By the way coach was still pleasurable because I got to meet and converse with so many people
I've been watching so many Amtrak videos from you and a few others, and I cannot wait to start my own solo cross country train adventure after my kiddo graduates high school and is off to college. I do want to do at least one train trip with my daughter, and I also have one that I want to do with my mom. Sitting alone in my own cabin reading a good book from my TBR while the world zooms by outside the widow sounds so wonderful, especially as an ambivert who can only do small doses of socializing at a time before feeling overwhelmed.

You'll always have access to the Amtrak Cafe if you need something along the way. That's the beauty of Amtrak; take as much food/drinks as you want.
So funny this popped up as a suggested video! I took this ride in 2001 with my family from Ohio to LA. Went went from Ohio to Chicago and from there to LA. My grandma recently mentioned we should do it again. We were in regular seats and I would never do it like that again 😫😂🤣 but the sleeper car is nice!! Wow.. I thought having to sit and wait for the freight train to pass was bad. I didn’t know you might have to get off in some cases 😳
This was so cool to see! How long did you live in St. Louis? That’s where I live. I’ve taken the train from here to Chicago a couple of times. I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing your other vlogs 😊
I have gotten more into US travel. Knowing they have a vegan burger, I am legit looking more into this. I work remotely and need to branch out more with travel.
OMG you are from St. Louis! So I am and I live in Los Angeles and I’m a Social Worker wow! Thanks for recording your journey, I’ve always wanted to take the train long distance. I’m going to look into it. ❤
The longest Amtrak ride I’ve taken was three years ago NYC to NOLA. It was coach, so that overnight ride hurt my ass bad. I can’t imagine paying that much for a private room. I do ride the Amtrak from upstate to the city on a monthly basis.
@@CookingwithSyreetta I had to read this twice cause I think your autocorrect changed “lock” to “lick” 😂 but no! It only locks from the inside so I carry my valuables with me most of the time. I’ve left stuff in the room and nothing’s ever been stolen either. And thank you!
You are you and there's your soul. So I beg to differ with saying "we". To me it is def we. Just my opinion. Ty for sharing. I moved from Minnesota to California. I wish I would've thought about the train.

Thank you! You can contact Amtrak for some of those questions or check their website because I'm unsure. But there is no smoking, you walk between cars, and lol I think it's implied I use the bathroom! I don't need to show everythinggg 😂
Thank you! They don't lock from the outside but normally carry my valuable things in my fanny pack or backpack when I'm in the observation car. Nothing has ever been stolen. And I use the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 - it's linked in the description box on my cameras and tech page too!

It looks like a really pleasant way to travel.
You’re Inspiring and seem so fun-subscribed !
Thank you, welcome!!
This was so cool to see! How long did you live in St. Louis? That’s where I live. I’ve taken the train from here to Chicago a couple of times. I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing your other vlogs 😊
@@LisaLeach-o1q yay, welcome! And I was in St. Louis for two years for grad school ✨
I have gotten more into US travel. Knowing they have a vegan burger, I am legit looking more into this. I work remotely and need to branch out more with travel.
@@KristieCarterGeorge yes definitely check the menus! I know west coast trains have had a few vegan options but I’m unsure about others
This was awesome! Good job!
Thank you!
Wonderful video ❤❤❤❤
Thanks!
New Subbie! Love your train rides!
Thank you!!
OMG you are from St. Louis! So I am and I live in Los Angeles and I’m a Social Worker wow! Thanks for recording your journey, I’ve always wanted to take the train long distance. I’m going to look into it. ❤
@@Luckie76 you’re welcome & I hope you enjoy! And I’m from Milwaukee but I have lived in St. Louis ✨
The longest Amtrak ride I’ve taken was three years ago NYC to NOLA. It was coach, so that overnight ride hurt my ass bad. I can’t imagine paying that much for a private room. I do ride the Amtrak from upstate to the city on a monthly basis.
Nice, always wanted to do this!👍🏽❤️🖤💚
@@terriarheghan3676 thanks - and it’s def worth the experience!
I’m curious. Can you lick your sleeper when you leave out? This was a great video btw!❤
You're welcome!
lol edited
Before I let go had me crying
Nice!😊
thank you!
Hi sis, luv the vlog and vibe. Can you take your own refillable cup? What about booze, suppose you are celebrating? Is there a smoking section/car? How easy is it to transfer cars? You didn't go to the caboose? 🤣 Have a blessed day...subscribing.
Thank you! You can contact Amtrak for some of those questions or check their website because I'm unsure. But there is no smoking, you walk between cars, and lol I think it's implied I use the bathroom! I don't need to show everythinggg 😂
Love the trip from Chicago to Los Angeles. What was that you used to take pictures off your telephone .I think want one
@@claragaston4731 thank you! It’s a Kodak mini shot 3 retro
@@Sojournies thank you
I said the same thing when I heard the driver and the lady. Like oh they black. 😂❤
Hahaha it's so rare sometimes on Amtrak
I feel cheated I have taken the Southwest Chief and I do not remember a Rooster Crowing and told Good Morning by the car attendant.
@@priscillabrowning3494 hahaha 😂 honestly this was the first time it’s happened
Such a great vid. I think imma do one of these 🙏🏿❤️
Looks like a great train ride. Do your doors lock from outside? Just wondering how you secure your items. What camera are you using to vlog?
Thank you! They don't lock from the outside but normally carry my valuable things in my fanny pack or backpack when I'm in the observation car. Nothing has ever been stolen. And I use the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 - it's linked in the description box on my cameras and tech page too!
It looks like you got one of the newly remodeled roomettes--congrats!
@@deeann7777U thanks!
I’m interested to learn more about the sapphire plans. What do you think about it vs an actual data device?
@@janellmd it is a data device so I’m not sure what you mean? You add data via an app and connect to it via your WiFi on your phone. I’ve been using this one for over a year!
not me seeing this before go on a 12 hour ride next week
I so owe myself this🌹

Hello from TX! I absolutely love your travel videos. I love nature and would love to take train travels in the near future. I have only taken one train travel when I went to Spain and absolutely loved my fave part (the scenery). Thank you for reminding me and inspiring me to get out and see world more. I care for my 80+ mom at home and ot’s hard to get away because only I can care for her the way she likes to be cared for. Maybe I should be bring her on a trip with me. 😉. Thanks lovely young lady. Keep them coming. I have subscribed so I don’t miss your travels. It would be a great idea if you did a pack with me before your travels and show us the outfits and tips, tricks and hacks. Thanks again!
@@hildachacon001 thank you so much and you’re so welcome! And I’ll add a packing video before my trips to a future video list. I did one a few years ago but it def could use a refresh!
I would like to take a solo train trip but am nervous because Im not very social. But i just came across your channel and am loving it! Where do you get your rings and earrings, theyre pretty
