  • A complete edition of the first movie review program featuring the Chicago Tribune's Gene Siskel and the Chicago Sun-Times' Roger Ebert.
NOTE: Downloaded from the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), and sound amplified via Audacity. Description contains a listing of the Tucson theaters in which all of the films on this show played.
    Contents:
    Opening credits
Introduction, featuring clip from FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
    Reviews:
    a. DRAGONSLAYER, made in conjunction with Walt Disney Productions, a Paramount release at the Park Mall. Gene and Roger find seeing the dragon well worth the long wait in this adventure by which they are thrilled (both YES's)
    b. THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER, produced by ITC Entertainment, a Universal release at the Showcase. Neither Gene nor Roger enjoy the main jewel theft plot of the second Muppet film, but Roger believes the plot and celebrity guests overshadow the Muppets, while Gene is consistently wowed from start to finish by Miss Piggy's screen presence, which ably wins him over. (Gene YES, Roger NO)
    c. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, a United Artists release at the Coronado. Both find it a surprisingly enjoyable entry in the James Bond series and Roger Moore's best entry in it. (both YES's)
    d. S.O.B., a Lorimar production, a Paramount release at the El Con 6, De Anza and Oracle View. Gene and Roger find this Blake Edwards comedy a hilarious and blistering satire on the corporate part of Hollywood filmmaking. (both very strong YES's)
    Dogs of the Week:
    a. Gene picks MANIAC, a 1980 slasher film that finally came to Chicago during the summer of 1981; as mentioned by the man himself, Mr. Siskel was so disgusted by the movie that it caused him to leave the theater after half an hour (the 1969 British film OTLEY and the 1996 political comedy BLACK SHEEP were two other movies that Gene quit viewing before they were finished).
    b. Roger picks another leftover from 1980, BEYOND EVIL, which, to borrow the title of a 1970 hit for the Temptations, is one big "Ball of Confusion" for him.

Ebert makes a goof at 25:32 - John Gavin (Sam Loomis in _Psycho_ ) was appointed ambassador to Mexico, not John Saxon.

The dragon in Dragonslayer has yet to be equaled on film.

Funny how both these critics saw the mother dragon's young yet still calls her "he." *shakes head*

Yeah, I find that amazing! Gene rarely, rarely ever gave four yes votes. If he ever did...

It would’ve been a clean sweep for Roger, too, if he hadn’t said “NO” to The Great Muppet Caper, though.
Frankly, I can’t say I blame him on his take, with it, but then again, it was a beautifully made movie, especially with Miss Piggy involved- now I sound like Gene, almost.
