I used to love this game. My first ever driving game. I'd spend hours going round an empty track as a young child. Frankly that's what I spend most of my time doing today on modern games too. Didn't have the prequel so it was probably an ideal choice. This really takes me back, fantastic.
LOL, I did this in a Nascar racing game for DOS. You could turn off damage for your own car, but other cars would still get damaged. I took advantage of this by turning around and smashing every other car, then completing the track and winning by technicality (nobody else was left). :D
+N64 Glenn Plant one time i was fed up i missed a curve and landed in the pitt - so i took out the other 21 drivers by damaging them and went on to win the race.
I remember that game like it was yesterday. Amazing graphics, a great roster of competitors, and the most legendary racer in the history Michael Schumacher!! is not a bad game. I think that this is one of the best F1 games of the history.

I just picked up the first F1 World grand Prix and like it a lot ! you can tell it was modeled after a arcade style racing game compared to newer racing games that do not have that style. I will have to look for this game to add to my N64 games soon.
I never played these types of racing games, but i want to! It looks like i would have some trouble getting a camera viewpoint that agreed with me- which is an important factor in racing games. Nice review
This game is a great upgrade from the 97 season as you have full race replay and much more options and details than the first game and the gallery is good too, fixed some of the issues with the 97 season so I hold this one as the best f1 game on N64. Although I have one big problem with it which keep its from being perfect: As soon as one chose to play on a harder difficulty than easiest the handling of the car is horrible, no matter if I change the controller options or change set up on the car, slow corners will be impossible to take, fast and long corners works somewhat, and I use a imrpoved N64 controller :S In the 97 season there is no such issue so the controlls in it is then in my opinion better.
First F1WGP you could only watch replay for last lap, but on F1WGP2 you get replay for entire competition, all the laps, no matter how many laps you play.

I find odd that you don't mention much more improved qualifying in this game unlike the original game in the original game you knew before hand what time you need to get to be on pole-position but in the this game you newer know exactly where you will end up on the grid. Which is more realistic. Another thing that's improved is depending on how many laps you select for race 4, 8, 16, half or full race. Is that if you select full race then at best you might be able to lap every other car maybe 1 or 2 in the original you could lap each car 14-20 times depending on the track which is very unrealistic. With this al said I still think this 2 best looking f1 games of the 90's and even early 2000s kind shame that the company that made these games newer made multiple follow ups.

This game is in my pile of shame (i.e. unplayed games) - along with the original and the Dreamcast version! I like the idea of an F1 game but I find them very hard - takes some adjustment when coming from F-Zero or Mario Kart.
Arcade controls? That explains why in the previous videos of watched of it the physics looked so terrible, they probably didn't turn those off. Dang, now I wish it came to the US, it was Europe only and the N64 has region lock.
@@STREET24000 Yup, regon lock is super annoying! Might be able to bypass it with a flashcart though, like download it from the internet, then put the game on an SD card in the flashcart. IDK, depends how the region lock is implemented, only system I've used a flashcart with is the GameBoy Advance amd it doesn't have regon lock to begin with.
not for this particular game but there are other games which are revolutionised by the expansion pack. if you have an n64 console in my opinion you need to own an expansion pack :)
+N64 Glenn Plant I think you confused the Game Boy Color version with the Nintendo 64 version (The GBC version is based on the 1999 season while the N64 version of the same title is based on the previous season)
I still think this is the last good F1 game to be released. I hardly ever return games, but I had to return the PS3 version of F1 2013 (or was it 14?) other wise it would of ended up as a Freezby.

I would say this is definitely better than the first game if you ignore the useless tutorials. Although I prefer playing the first F1 GP. I guess because thats the one i played back in the day. Also i actually never liked playing F1 GP with a steering wheel because i somehow really suck when i use it. You would think that it would make it easier but nope not when i use it.

I had F1WGP - can’t really remember the FPS, but sounds like it was a similar deal to Goldeneye with a highly variable frame rate.
I'll be honest, the game is a pile of horse shit and jerky unplayable mess (leave it alone if you wanna play it with the expansion pack in). If the 1st game was bad, the 2nd game can't be anymore less. And that questionable HUD placement covering 25% of the screen... I do have the cart and keep it with personal value though because it was gifted to me by my old brother. But can't say the game is good. F1 Racing Championship is another story and it's a much more bearable improvement over these games. The sounds are more acceptable and totally mimics those of a real F1 engine (not saying they are perfect but gotta love how high these engine revs compared to F1WGP). Cameras are far better and better handling. And a small but informative enough HUD that doesn't require 1/4 of screen space. Developed by Ubisoft and powered by VideoSystem, a huge learning curve since their awful and buggy /yet fun to play/ F1 Pole Position 64 (which is a much more arcade-oriented F1 game rather than a F1 simulator, which is why I forgive it). If you want an F1 game for the N64, this is the one to go.

Something that really doesn't happen to me on any other F1 game. Maybe if they did set the camera a bit far as well as FOV... I wouldn't complain that much. But it is the least of my favorites being F1 Challenge 99'-01'my most favorite.
The challenge mode now would suck. "The two Mercedes pull out a 2-minute lead. In the final 3 laps, don't bother trying to catch them."

Toe Jam dreamcast you could watch the entire race.
The cars actually got revamped for the 1998 season with narrower wheelbases and grooved tires. This style of car would be used from 1998 to 2005.

its weird because some racing games are really easy to play with a wheel like vrally i always found easy
