The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.
Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. Immortality isn't physically living forever... As long as the legacy of said names and then some, are remembered, they will live on... In our hearts and minds... So they are truly not dead... They are *VERY* much alive... In their legacy and the memories of such...

When one was a child, he saw the monsters of group B masterfully carried by the great Nordic masters and learned their names in that language to mispronounce them, while collecting their photos and posters with the great show of power, control and speed they provided. One is more from the era of Sainz, Biasion, Kankkunen, McRae, Auriol, these are the first "expeditions" to the road to vibrate with the passage of cars, but there is no doubt that Hannu Mikkola's Audi is the first impression powerful that I was passionate about this sport. Rest in peace, master.

I had the honour of rallying with Hannu in 1995 on the london to Mexico Rally. A re-run of the original world cup in 70. He won it then. He won it again in 95. The original 'Flying Fin' - Legend. xx
Never spectacular but always very, very fast. RIP Hannu.
He tamed the Escort and Quattro. Always sideways with Escort. Quattro might have understeered quite a lot but Hannu made it dance and fly. 1983 WRC champion. Also 7 times 1000 Lakes Rally winner…just how? During those days when the cars broke down and you had to drive flat out all the time with unstable cars. Incredible. Also 1979 title belonged to him. It was unacceptable from police what happened in that year’s Monte Carlo Rally. He won the rally but was later dropped to 5th due to ”dangerous driving” on road section. It was a shame. There’s no doubt, he was really spectacular.

I wonder if he was a Jim Clark fan. And I wonder if he was, at all, related to Heikki Mikkola. Although a "WRC fan" I confess I didn't realize how important Hannu Mikkola was.

I Believe There Was A Video Of Mikkola And Ari Vatanen Sitting On A Hay Bale Saying How Insane Group B Was, I Don’t Remember Where It Was But If Somebody Knows It’ll Be Much Appreciated,
The top rallydrivers are from an other planet. They take your car and then you want to never drive again. Of course you do. Again one of the Heroes gone.
Though I'm not really familiar with him... I have heard of him... The "Flying Finn"...
I really didn't take a liking to rallye untill toward the end of the Colon McRea era... Got to playing games like the first "WRC World Rallye Championship" game on PS2... That is what really got me into rallye...
However, this man is still seen as a legend by many, and it is sad he passed...
Guess now he is amung the likes of Colon McRea, Dale Earnhardt, Ayrton Senna, and others... Bet they racing the *HELL* out of each other there...
