Yes, you can buy tickets in advance, and I recommend doing so if you have the time to go to the train station a few days ahead of time. Have a great trip!
Hey Gus, one question. Could we pay by Credit Card ? Currently, 30€ is almost 1600 EGP. At least, I have to pay in € and I don"t know how to change in Cairo.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel Hello, thank you, I bought my ticket today, and I paid by credit card. Thank you very much........Now I have to do the same from Alexadria to Cairo in few days. :)
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel Sorry, I missed the reply. I actually got back from Egypt last a few weeks ago. My Egyptian friend was able to buy us both tickets without any issues. I didn't need to purchase a foreigner ticket. We had a good time in Alexandria.
Thank you for this video. What is the current foreigner ticket price for Luxor - Cairo, and Aswan - Cairo with the overnight Talgo train? I did a Google search and did not find a conclusive answer. Thanks.
You can find the prices and book tickets online for the normal train-there is no Talgo sleeper train. abelatrains.com/Home is the website, or just google “Abela Egypt Sleeper Train”
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel Thanks. But I do see Talgo (non-sleeper?) train schedules with Egyptian local ticket prices on the official website (Cairo - Luxor/Aswan). To Aswan, AC1 = 700 EGP, AC2 = 550 EGP; to Luxor, AC1 = 600 EGP, AC2 = 400 EGP. I understand they don't publish foreigner price at the moment. enr.gov.eg/o-city/obs/enr/railway/en/booktickets I was wondering if the overnight Talgo trains listed in official website are legit? I would imagine they are but I have yet to find an English UA-cam review of Talgo trains to Upper Egypt.
It's between 2.5-5 hours, depending on the speed of the train and if there are any delays. The nonstop Talgo trains are about 2.5 hours if no delays happen along the way.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel thank you for the information it’s much appreciated. We’re leaving early for the train so hopefully goes smoothly. Great videos
I don’t know if it applies if you’re an Egyptian resident, but it does apply to non-Egyptian Arabs. However, if you look Egyptian and speak Egyptian Arabic, no one will probably notice.
Thanks for all the info. I would like to ask if at this moment is available to book online tickets as a foreigner? Also in the station when you book tickets can you choose a specific seat (like window) and do you think one day before my train journey I will be able to find tickets or go even earlier like 2 or 3 days before. Thanks.
Foreigners cannot book tickets online, yet. You can choose a window or aisle seat when you buy the tickets, just ask :) You should be able to find a ticket one day in advance, but if you can go earlier, that's a great idea. Have a great trip!
@@firstneverfollows9988 I’m not sure-anyone know the answer to this? My guess is that they’re open the normal train reservation hours, but I’m not sure if this is 24 hours or not.
Last October, I tried to pay the foreigner ticket in EGP equivalent, but they didn't accept EGP instead insisted I pay in USD (which I didn't have with me at the time).
I’m sorry you had that experience. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to make this updated video. When I paid the USD equivalent, they let me pay via credit card instead of cash, so I recommend all foreigners have a visa or Mastercard with them so they can use it to buy tickets for the train and also tourist sites as needed 👍🏼. Hi Gus, I'll be doing the Cairo to Alexandria trip for work later this month and am hoping to travel by train, so this is very helpful, thank you! Could you advise with three questions I have on this? 1) So the rough cost of a return ticket travelling via the Talgo train bought at the station would be 70 USD? 2) Paying with credit card at the station was ok? 3) I'm planning to arrive at Cairo train station for about 8am in time for a 9am train, do you think there should still be available train tickets for that time on the day? My flight only lands at 5:15 to Cairo that morning, bit tight tbh
1. Yep! 2. Yep, for me it was. 3. That I’m not sure. There might be tickets, or might be sold out. If they are sold out, just exit the train and follow my video for taking a microbus!
@@nasalnasuha I paid with a Visa/Mastercard when I was in Egypt (debit or credit card, as long as it's a Visa/Mastercard, will be accepted), but I always recommend having cash as a backup, because sometimes credit card machines in Egypt do not work or are "down".
@@nasalnasuha I also paid with credit card during my February 2024 visit. They take you up the escalators to a quiet back office to buy the ticket. Just be ready for the extortionate price for non-Egyptians :/

thnaks for an update. so even if u buy the ticket from online egyptian railways website ut wouldnt be honored . please update this . read on trip advisor that they honor th ticket . i suppose you know better. alos kids 3 years do they need to buy ticket
So far, ENR does not offer an option for foreigners to buy a ticket, just Egyptians. So yes, if you buy an Egyptian ticket from the ENR website, you may pay a fine. I’m not sure about tickets for 3 year old children-anyone have experience with this?
u don’t have to pay $25 for tickets from Cairo to Alex ask someone for help to get u tickets it’s only cost u as $4 it’s shame on us to charge u extra money welcome to Egypt bro
I wouldn’t recommend this, because you may get asked to show your ticket on the train, and if they see you have an Egyptian ticket but if you look like a foreigner and don’t speak Arabic, they will ask to see your ID, and if they learn you aren’t Egyptian, they will fine you.
@@Fatma-dt1jf yeah, but I don’t really mind that though-many Egyptians don’t have the money to afford the higher ticket costs, but foreigners do. Plus it’s a similar cost as taking a train almost anywhere else in the world. If you want to pay a really cheap rate (same as locals) to go to/from Alexandria, just take Go Bus or a microbus. I have videos showing how to do the microbuses (super easy). Best of luck and have a great trip!
People from different nations can tell me if foreigners pay more in the public transport in your country? Cause in Brazil it's the same price to everyone . I can understand avout the museums and monuments, but the transport should be the same price. It's completely unfair with the foreigners.
I was frustrated when I first learned about the difference in cost, but then I just decided to take a bus-the buses cost the same for foreigners and Egyptians, and are just as fast as the trains.
Yeah, it's frustrating. Sometimes the bus is not as good as a train, for example from Luxor to Aswan. So we need to pay almost 10x more than others. The cost to live here in Egypt is good, but I feel angry sometimes for how they look to foreigners as a money sack.
@@patrickoalves I just keep in mind the average salary of an Egyptian person (around $100 -$150 USD TOTAL per month), and that helps me put things into perspective, and then to realize my economic privilege. I’m happy to spend $25 for a train ticket, on a Talgo train just like they’d have in Europe, where I’m sure a ticket would cost 25 Euros for a similar trip. I’m very, very happy to help subsidize transportation so that everyday, local Egyptian people can more easily afford the local fares.
You're right! I'm using the modern context here, as in, "the numbers we use in the English language". But yes, you can always add that context to share where the numerals themselves originated from. Linguistic history is fascinating!
Not going to lie I would’ve caught this train from Alexandra to Cairo but for $25 it’s a bit ridiculous considering Egyptians are paying around $5 max for the same trip, you could just catch an Uber and it would be way cheaper than the $25 they’re trying to make you pay and would get you there in around 2/3 hours so what is the point really lol
Thanks for the video, the price of 25 - 35$ one way is exorbitant. I will never use it and I propose to all foreigners to avoid the train travel in Egypt.
It’s more expensive than the cost of the Egyptian ticket, yes. For those who want a cheaper option, get a $2-$3 microbus - video link is in the description.
I’m typing this from the Railway Station of Cairo and I 100% agree with you. Was totally desmotivating to know that I had to pay US$ 60 on a round trip just to know Alexandria. No way!

As an Egyptian I can tell you that the government bear some of the cost to help their people especially who can't afford the price , for foreigner who has the capablity to pay it will be unfair that the country bear part of the cost for them , speacially if you have accepted service with such this train , a bit annoying but it's the truth 😅
@@waelzedan7172I don't get the complaints, I don't mind helping the local economy
They ask you the passport when you buy the ticket
I honestly can’t remember-I recommend having it with you, just in case.
I'll be there next week... NGL, kinda scared 😂
Scared why?
How much would a normal special class train cost for foreigners
Depends on the train and which class. Usually it’s between $35-45 USD one way per person.
Thanks. I am planning to go Egypt in September 2024 and need to know how to get tickets from Luxor to Alexandria & Alexandria to Cairo.
Is the process same for above or can i get these tickets in advance?
Yes, you would go to the same foreigner ticket office at any train station to buy the tickets, up to two weeks in advance, but you cannot buy them online unless it’s the Luxor - Cairo or reverse sleeper train (which I don’t recommend).
This train is available for going to alexandria to luxor ???
The Talgo? No, just the older trains at the moment go to Luxor.
Great description...planning to go next week...do you know if I can book/pay for tickets a few days in advance..John K
Yes, you can buy tickets in advance, and I recommend doing so if you have the time to go to the train station a few days ahead of time. Have a great trip!
Can buy online now or need to go purchasing at counter?
@@nasalnasuha Foreigners need to buy in person (or have your travel agency buy the ticket for you), but Egyptian can buy tickets in advance online.
Hi Gus
The station you are talking about, is that Misr Station?
The one in Alexandria, yes! Mahattet Masr (or Misr, however you want to spell it). It’s pronounced “MUH-hah-tet M-ah-sr”.
Hey Gus, one question. Could we pay by Credit Card ? Currently, 30€ is almost 1600 EGP. At least, I have to pay in € and I don"t know how to change in Cairo.
Yes, I paid with credit card. Sometimes the machines don’t work, but you should be able to pay with a visa or Mastercard.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel Hello, thank you, I bought my ticket today, and I paid by credit card. Thank you very much........Now I have to do the same from Alexadria to Cairo in few days. :)
Is it possible to purchase tickets where the seats are together if you have an Egyptian ticket and a foreigner ticket?
I’m not sure-has anyone had experience with this?
Yes, I have done this the VIP foreigner office will book both the tickets at the same time for you.
Thank you!
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel is this website tickets are foreigner tickets?
Yes, the Ablea website is for foreigner tickets. I much prefer the flight, because it’s the same price, and way more comfortable, and only one hour!
can u visit Coptic locations in egypt ?
I’ve visited a lot of them! They’re on the list for places to make videos about.
Where is travellers luggage stored?
Up above on the racks or in between train cars.
Is there any train that goes to Siwa from Alexandria ?
No
How long is the train ride from Alexandria
It's between 2.5-5 hours, depending on the speed of the train and if there are any delays. The nonstop Talgo trains are about 2.5 hours if no delays happen along the way.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel thank you for the information it’s much appreciated. We’re leaving early for the train so hopefully goes smoothly. Great videos
Is the train from Cairo to Luxor still running? The one that's about 200EGP one way?
Yes, but like this train, it now has a different price for foreigners, set in a USD amount.
Does the policy for foreigners apply to non Egyptians arabs too? And if you are an egyptian resident does it still apply?
I don’t know if it applies if you’re an Egyptian resident, but it does apply to non-Egyptian Arabs. However, if you look Egyptian and speak Egyptian Arabic, no one will probably notice.
Thanks for all the info. I would like to ask if at this moment is available to book online tickets as a foreigner?
Also in the station when you book tickets can you choose a specific seat (like window) and do you think one day before my train journey I will be able to find tickets or go even earlier like 2 or 3 days before. Thanks.
Foreigners cannot book tickets online, yet.
You can choose a window or aisle seat when you buy the tickets, just ask :)
You should be able to find a ticket one day in advance, but if you can go earlier, that's a great idea.
Have a great trip!
Is the foreigner reservation office 24hours open?@EgyptAdventuresTravel
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I am certain they take CC
@@affandina100 me too 👍🏼
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel I asked to pay by card at the station, but they refused to accept it.. USD cash only (or other foreign currency) they said.

I had a question
I'm American
My wifey is Egyptian
Do the Egyptians get to pick their seat? Like if I take the same train as you did, my wife can sit next to me??
I’m not sure-you’d need to ask at the ticket office. I think it should be possible.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel Massive thanks Gus 👍. Oh and can do you know if the Microbus can be paid for with credit card, or just EGP cash?
Hello, can I pay with debit card?
@@nasalnasuha I paid with a Visa/Mastercard when I was in Egypt (debit or credit card, as long as it's a Visa/Mastercard, will be accepted), but I always recommend having cash as a backup, because sometimes credit card machines in Egypt do not work or are "down".
@@nasalnasuha I also paid with credit card during my February 2024 visit. They take you up the escalators to a quiet back office to buy the ticket. Just be ready for the extortionate price for non-Egyptians :/
What time does the Talgo leave Cairo in the morning
There are several different times-check with the office to find the time that works best for you.
Hi
Do they ask for a passport or iqama when entering (in Cairo) or exiting (in Alexandria) when by train? Thnx 🌱
Sometimes they check this on the train itself, sometimes at the station, it just depends. Whenever anyone is traveling between cities in Egypt, I recommend having a passport with.
thnaks for an update. so even if u buy the ticket from online egyptian railways website ut wouldnt be honored . please update this . read on trip advisor that they honor th ticket . i suppose you know better. alos kids 3 years do they need to buy ticket
So far, ENR does not offer an option for foreigners to buy a ticket, just Egyptians. So yes, if you buy an Egyptian ticket from the ENR website, you may pay a fine. I’m not sure about tickets for 3 year old children-anyone have experience with this?
How long is the train ride?
2.5-3 hours.

u don’t have to pay $25 for tickets from Cairo to Alex ask someone for help to get u tickets it’s only cost u as $4 it’s shame on us to charge u extra money welcome to Egypt bro
I wouldn’t recommend this, because you may get asked to show your ticket on the train, and if they see you have an Egyptian ticket but if you look like a foreigner and don’t speak Arabic, they will ask to see your ID, and if they learn you aren’t Egyptian, they will fine you.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel dude we are sorry to hear that it’s being sisi ruler and governor is big corruption you couldn’t find any where around world

It’s definitely more expensive than it used to be, although with how much the currency has been devalued, it’s close to what it used to be.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel and it’s more expensive compared to what Egyptians pay!
@@Fatma-dt1jf yeah, but I don’t really mind that though-many Egyptians don’t have the money to afford the higher ticket costs, but foreigners do. Plus it’s a similar cost as taking a train almost anywhere else in the world.

By the way. It is an amazing video, keep doing it! It's really good!
@@patrickoalves thanks!

Yes--the price is really steep compared to what is used to cost, so for most trips to Alexandria, I opt to pay the $3/4 for the microbus.
