I want to apologize for a not very flattering comment because of using Dawn in the recipe, however I substituted it with a sal suds and the result swept me out of my feet - dishes turned out to be incredibly shiny!!! This is the formula I was looking for!!! Thanks a lot!!!
Looking forward to trying this. To keep it really mostly natural, Castile soap could be used in place of the dawn dish soap. Dawn is one of the most toxic dish soaps on the shelf 😬
Yes, thank you for mentioning this. I was curious why Dawn was considered "all natural" in this video when it is said to be one of the most toxic dish soaps. Any recommendations on Castile soaps out there?
🙏🏾 I’ve been praying for dishwashing liquid recipes and dishwasher soap recipes. You’re my answer to my prayers today. I humbly thank you. As a child I spent summers on my grandparents farm without indoor plumbing or electricity. Those were the best days of my life! 10:01 🙏🏾
In a chemistry standpoint you want to leave out the the citric acid, the name in itself is an acid all the other chemicals are a base or (alkaline). If you mix an acid with a base all you are doing is neutralizing the mixture to a more neutral PH level thus the mixture will not work as well.
It will not do as well of a job that you intended it to do if you have alkaline mixed with an acid. If you want it to remove hard water stains then keep them separated, for instance you can put the citric acid inside the detergent door and the homemade detergent on outside to keep them separated, the alkaline detergent will be drained before the door opens meaning the citric acid will react at its full strength, you can also add vinegar to the rinse aid reservoir instead of using (Jet Dry) as well. I hope you are using citric acid made from citrus instead of the kind made from mold, that’s right I said mold, if you don’t believe me google it, (Is citric acid made from mold). Hope this helps you out.

Does anyone know if these ingredients are septic and dishwasher safe? I heard you are not supposed to use vinegar in a front load washing machine because it can ruin the seals....I don't know if the vinegar or citric acid can degrade any of the seals in a dishwasher. It's not very cost effective if you have to replace a dishwasher or if you have a septic problem.

What is the purpose of the sea salt? I used a similar recipe and even though I had vinegar in the rinse compartment, I still got a white film all over my dishes. I was going to leave the salt out of the recipe altogether. Would that work?

People may call us crazy, Lisa, but I'd rather be crazy than unprepared, right!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I really like making many of our homemade cleaners and bath & body products. Not only is it more affordable but it's way cleaner/more all-natural than store-bought stuff. Better for our bodies 🙂

Thanks for sharing. My friend and I were just talking about finding a recipe like this. Ok to use if on a septic tank. Seems like ok, know ingredients better than commercial stuff.

Excited to try this! Ordered the ingredients. Even the Cascade pods don’t work well in our dishwasher so I’m hoping this will go better and be better for us!
It's for extra cleaning power but you can substitute this for any dish soap that you prefer. I know Dawn is not all-natural but I don't feel bad using it because it's only three drops☺️
If you're using citric acid why can't you make pods? It would seem to me you could just put some water in it a little bit of water in it until it's holds together and then put it in a silicone Trey and it should harden I don't know I'm new at this stuff so I'm not sure. What's your guess about that
Hi Debbie. I think any silica packets will do. We bought ours off of Amazon last year. I use them for storing flours and grains. Also, when we put our pasta in glass jars I use a silica packet in each one to absorb moisture so I don't lose any food. I can also throw them into baking soda or washing soda just to cut down on clumping.
Dawn dish soap natural? Lol This sounded fine to me and I'm right with you on your goals you stated, but I haven't used Dawn due to its ingredients for a very long time! I wonder if a liquid castille soap would work or at least a more natural or earth conscious brand like Ecover of liquid dishsoap would work just as well?
It worked but not great. Dishes were slippery and more than usual still dirty. Added 1/4th cup of amount left with Borex. Much better but think I only need 1 tablespoon instead of 2. Will try and no dawn needed. The water may make a difference? Thanks
No it won’t, the vinegar will be diluted in the water, also the water maybe naturally alkaline so adding acid will only neutralize the PH of the water. It’s always best to test the PH of your water to know if you should be using chemicals with a higher or lower PH, knowing this will definitely prolong the life of your dishwasher and washing machine.
R there any disadvantage of these ingredients as far as machine is concerned. I am more worried about dishwasher machine as they r quite expensive in our country. Specially venigar. Secondly is salt still a neccissity if water is already soft enough. Plz advice.
Thanks for recipe citric acid is key. I ran out. However, I used Castile natural no due no chemical soap as dawn is blue dye and chemicals.! The lye in Castile gets saponified. Dawn cuts grease but so does vinegar or citric acid. Everythime I make a video of products youtube makes me put a disclaimer on it during I don't work for the companies nor do I get paid to endorse. Just a heads up their clamping down. I'm same way no chemicals. Essential oils are good in soy candles their not inflammatory to our health
Why do you add the dawn soap to an all natural soap? Also when I used this why are all of my dishes coming out with a white residue all over them? It won’t even come off with another wash. I also added vinegar to the machine. How do I make natural cleaner without having the white residue
I have all the ingredients, and just appreciate this. However, I find that the ingredients' cost does add up, almost feels like Im not saving anything. The borax has gone up by several dollars, and the citric acid is also expensive. So, I don't agree that making this is necessarily saving money. I do like this because it is safer and natural.
I omitted the citric acid because of what someone commented, (that the acid neutralizes the base products) and also because it's horrendously expensive in N.Z... I just paused the machine to add a coffee mug and the dishes look super sparkly!! No borax in this recipe by the way.....
Could I use borax to replace the washing soda? Right. now I have everything but the washing soda and would like to give it a try before I purchase the washing soda.
