    In a chemistry standpoint you want to leave out the the citric acid, the name in itself is an acid all the other chemicals are a base or (alkaline). If you mix an acid with a base all you are doing is neutralizing the mixture to a more neutral PH level thus the mixture will not work as well.

      It will not do as well of a job that you intended it to do if you have alkaline mixed with an acid. If you want it to remove hard water stains then keep them separated, for instance you can put the citric acid inside the detergent door and the homemade detergent on outside to keep them separated, the alkaline detergent will be drained before the door opens meaning the citric acid will react at its full strength, you can also add vinegar to the rinse aid reservoir instead of using (Jet Dry) as well. I hope you are using citric acid made from citrus instead of the kind made from mold, that’s right I said mold, if you don’t believe me google it, (Is citric acid made from mold). Hope this helps you out.

      Well I have a family of seven so what is your point? my comment is to improve on her and other viewers experience in making dish detergent , I’m just trying help people not waste their money by using it the wrong way and to tweak the ingredients to maximize savings in their pockets. Don’t get your panties in a bunch while trying to be a keyboard warrior. The fact that you said she has a family of eight is anecdotal has nothing to do with science, please comment and tell me how I’m wrong with “facts” not feelings.

Thankyou for sharing, love from Australia xxx. P.s. touching on previous video conversations, our nightly news , on t.v. last night, spoke of severe fresh produce shortages and extremely high prices on produce to come soon. Due to supply and also massive flooding we've experienced here in Australia. Maybe this mama's not so crazy after all😉. Anyhow, thanks for being a kindred spirit in these crazy times we're in!💞💞

    • @rtimusprime1666
      @rtimusprime1666 Рік тому +1

      No it won’t, the vinegar will be diluted in the water, also the water maybe naturally alkaline so adding acid will only neutralize the PH of the water. It’s always best to test the PH of your water to know if you should be using chemicals with a higher or lower PH, knowing this will definitely prolong the life of your dishwasher and washing machine.

    I have all the ingredients, and just appreciate this. However, I find that the ingredients' cost does add up, almost feels like Im not saving anything. The borax has gone up by several dollars, and the citric acid is also expensive. So, I don't agree that making this is necessarily saving money. I do like this because it is safer and natural.

    • @desireeretiree

      Don’t use epsom salt, it would be a waste of money if you did and also depending on the size of the crystal grain if it is to large it can jam up the food grinder in the dishwasher causing it to go into an error mode or breaking the washer. Epsom salt is (Magnesium sulfate) and has a neutral PH level, it would be no different than using distilled water.

    Does anyone know if these ingredients are septic and dishwasher safe? I heard you are not supposed to use vinegar in a front load washing machine because it can ruin the seals....I don't know if the vinegar or citric acid can degrade any of the seals in a dishwasher. It's not very cost effective if you have to replace a dishwasher or if you have a septic problem.

    What is the purpose of the sea salt? I used a similar recipe and even though I had vinegar in the rinse compartment, I still got a white film all over my dishes. I was going to leave the salt out of the recipe altogether. Would that work?

    R there any disadvantage of these ingredients as far as machine is concerned. I am more worried about dishwasher machine as they r quite expensive in our country. Specially venigar. Secondly is salt still a neccissity if water is already soft enough. Plz advice.

      @anniemcelroy2812 2 роки тому +2

      Hi Debbie. I think any silica packets will do. We bought ours off of Amazon last year. I use them for storing flours and grains. Also, when we put our pasta in glass jars I use a silica packet in each one to absorb moisture so I don't lose any food. I can also throw them into baking soda or washing soda just to cut down on clumping.
