  • We've heard promises from Government for years that the housing crisis will get better.
Simultaneously, we see investment funds bulk buying housing estates while homeless levels break new records.
Young people realise things are not changing - and they're leaving this country in droves.
Footage from Dáil debate during Leaders' Questions between Holly Cairns TD, leader of the Social Democrats, and Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien on 18 January 2024.

I don't know the ins and outs of all that has been done or could have been done by this and preceding governments. I'm not clued in at all on the details. But I'm also not a mechanic, yet if I put fuel in my car and it won't start, I know something is wrong. Housing has been unaffordable for years now, this is a fact laid bare by Holly's comments, and by my own experience. This has to be rectified. People have protested about this in previous generations, and not entirely peacefully. This government should expect the same.

Its far worse than here, let's blame the other side, how about fixing the problem and stop bickering about it. Stop bulk buys and build more new houses and remove any Tax incentives for Landlords until you have a decent standard of living accomodation.

Nationalise all entities with more than 5 rental properties in their portfolio. Compensate them at 1.5 times what they paid for them, and tell them they have 7 days to accept, or they lose all compensation.

It's worse in the UK, way worse. The doctors are running. You boomers that voted for Brexit and are gonna find out the hard way when they're no doctors left and pensions become worthless.
With the EU even if you children run from the country you can still receive benefits. If they run to Australia, you get nothing.
CANZUK is way worse than the EU. It makes it easy for skilled workers to leave the UK.
