There's actually an NPC in Hateno Village who can be pushed underwater by running in to her repeatedly, she instantly drops to the bottom of the small pond and kinda just walks around. She can stay underwater for as long as she wants, and you can even talk to her while she's glued to the bottom of the pond. This means that the damaging or despawning properties of lava are killing the NPCs and not the fact that they're falling into a liquid body, makes me curious on what happens when you try to drop them in to a bog/body of mud.

Funnily the NPCs dying in lava was something I was already familiar with from pointcrows "Modded Breath of the Wild so the floor is actually lava" where an NPC confidentally walked into Lava and you could hear them sizzle away

Someone actually managed to kill the Old Man by knocking him off of the Great Plateau with Stasis. You can see him vanish right before he reaches the fog layer, just like a ghost....

Isn't there a Gerudo NPC in Goron City whose pathfinding can lead her into lava? She respawns, if I recall correctly, so the summoned ones may just return to their original spot. I don't know whether that's intrinsic to the NPC itself or different with each instance, though.
The most powerful thing I can think of in BotW is the gold lynel. Although NPCs may be invincible, they still can't deal any damage to Link, while swimming for too long can. Gold lynels, on the other hand, are stronger than Calamity Ganon. Not a word of a lie. The explosion attack that they do, where they slam their weapon into the ground after raising it high in the air, deals 52 hearts of damage to Link while armorless. That's an insta-kill. Even when wearing the best possible combination of armor for defense in the game, it's still an instant death. Wearing a fully upgraded Champions Tunic and fully upgraded Trousers and Cap of the Wild (or any trousers and cap that each give 28 defense when fully upgraded) gives a total of 88 defense, which drops the amount of damage from 52 hearts down to 32. That's still enough to kill you instantly. The only way to not instantly get killed by it while still getting hit is by also having a defense up buff of at least level 2. With a level 2 buff, you survive with one heart. With level 3, you survive with four hearts. That's how powerful that attack is. Not to mention the fact that the attack will break most shields after one or two hits, and that's not even the worst of it: a gold lynel has a base attack damage of 60, and this amount is added to the amount of damage their weapon does. A five-shot burst savage lynel bow does 32 damage per arrow, not including any special effects from the arrow itself. Every lynel uses some type of arrow other than normal ones, and so, when combined with the 60 base damage, getting hit by all five arrows deals at LEAST 53 hearts of damage to Link without armor, not including any effects from shock arrows, ice arrows, fire arrows, bomb arrows, etc. And when they shoot arrows, the arrows almost always hit their target, and come straight from above, hitting you even if there's a roof over your head. Even Calamity Ganon can't do anywhere near that much damage, even in master mode. Plus a gold lynel has 7500 hp, and Calamity Ganon can have AT MOST 8000, and that's only if you haven't completed any of the divine beasts.
that's not the actual best armor combination it's champion tunic with full phantom armor
@@Vlyg11 you've lost your mind. Phantom armor has 8 defense apiece and can't be upgraded. You have to either be joking, or really stupid. You want to know what armor IS technically the best in the game? The Fierce Deity set. It can be upgraded to give the same amount of defense as the Clothing of the Wild at max level, and each piece gives an attack up buff (giving you a level 3 attack up buff while wearing the whole set), and when worn when upgraded to two levels or higher, it gives charge attack stamina up. Easily the best armor set in the game. Not even a question.
@@dominicbonogofski Pretty sure full guardian armor with guardian weapons is superior in terms of damage though, disregarding that the buff is superior to attack boost 3 you can just eat an attack boost 3 meal and do even more damage with close to max defense.
@@vishnuravi8910 that armor isn't the best if you're like me and have savage lynel swords that do 100 damage per swing, not including any attack buffs. With guardian weapons, the most damage you can do to regular enemies is like 108, compared to my savage lynel swords that can do up to 150 damage with an attack up level 3 buff.

I saw a "the floor is lava" challenge where someone modded the game to put lava all over Hyrule. An NPC walked into lava AND DISAPPEARED. There was even a sizzle!!
in my head, i heard the "Bomb Hitting Water" sound effect from OoT/MM (that little 'psst...!' as the fuse fizzles out) every time a character hit the lava...

to me, "Sploosh(/Spliiish)" is just 'too long' of a sound effect for most NPCs...like, yeah, a Hinox maybe, or perhaps Beedle and his big ol bag...but Link (and most Hylians around His Build) is like a lil Pebblitt, just a "pss" in my head lol

Fun fact: lava can actually be swum in, you just need to go out of bounds/under the floor. However, you'll constantly take damage.

Huh, I wonder if that means lava is just damaging water combined with an ordinary death barrier a small distance below the surface. I would've assumed the warp out was a hardcoded effect of the lava, but I guess not?
So that means we can kill some NPCs such as Beedle with a lot of work, without mods? Nice.

@@FFKonoko No but you can move them places by constantly sprinting into them so they get nudged ever so slightly. It would take hours but its possible.
@@StopLegoLord possibly even a few days, if you're trying to kill somebody from across the map. Granted, water could very well work similarly to lava in this case, seeing as how if you go underneath the lava layer itself it turns out that the lava is really just retextured water that makes you take damage, but that could also be untrue.

One time I found an npc with their horse and the npc was undergrund and the horse was above ground normally and I went to tame the horse and talked to the npc instead! I thought I was talking to the horse for a second but then I realized the npc was underground! I stopped talking to them and they despawned and the horse despawned with the npc because the horse beloged to the npc!
It's interesting to see how other people use the carts... It's much more efficient to turn them around and have the cage bit at the back, then you just put a bomb in the cage bit, detonate, and repeat.
I actually used to be friends with mety waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the early days of AIM, really odd seeing his name pop up after all these years. Hope he's doing well.
Before I start the video, I accidentally killed the Hateno Village Guide by because he got of track and fell into some water, or he clipped through the map. It was like 5 years ago on my Wii U so I can't remember.

Making NPCs/unkillable characters absurdly heavy is actually a pretty old technique! I actually discovered while modding Halo 2 that certain unkillable actors are given weight values in the millions so the player can never move them against their will and cause some kind of scripted sequence break

Out of trivia, density of lava is actually superior to the one of the human body, meaning that we can't actually "dive" into lava. That only exists in movies. In real life, if we jump on lava, we stay at the surface of it, fastly taking fire and eventually getting grilled like a toast.
As soon as your body touches the lava, it gets incinerated, so it wouldn't be possible to dive into lava anyway. The density of lava is actually greater than granite, so if you didn't get incinerated somehow when you jumped into a pit of lava, it would be just like landing on cement. Obviously the creators of the movie "The Terminator" either didn't know or didn't care.
I mean... Link disappears when he hits lava to, he just respawns afterward.

Wait if lava is like water, for certain enemy’s, would npc’s also disappear if dropped in water?
There are also some games where you will be able to hurt the npc's a bit but not defeat them and like they react but then forgive you, like in Super Mario Sunshine and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. And also in sometimes in Paper Mario and Zelda (or other games), there are situations where you have to hit an enemy to save an NPC, so your character could actually ACCIDENTALLY hit the npc instead and the npc obvs wouldn't die but would be like hey watch out you hit me your meant to hit the other guy, like for example in Paper Mario when Kolorado is being attacked by a Jungle Fuzzy. Anyways cool you actually covered this concept.

I made a short clip years ago when I accidentally killed an NPC with water. After 2 seconds they simply spawn back a few feet away to restart whatever animation or progress they're own.

If you think about it. Link most likely despawns when he falls in and NPC most likely despawns because they get dealt damage when they fall in so they respawn. I wonder if they would respawn if they were attacked by an enemy

Fun fact: if you touch something with magnesis and while it's in contact with magnesis you touch them with your body it causes an overflow error that makes link the thiccest boi in Hyrule capable of batting around even steel doors and the like as if they were butter. Don't know if it helps with nps tho

Once my sister was starting to play and she had just passed through Fort Hateno on her way to Hateno village to speak with Purah about her memory. She'd caught herself a horse, and was headed down the path at full speed. I warned her "there are travellers on these paths, you should slow down" but she did not listen. Before I could stop her, she charged directly into an NPC, right as she spurred her horse on. She hit him directly, and there was a blood curdling scream. And I know that when you startle NPCs they make this little "whoa!" sound and that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a _scream._
When she got off her horse, he was gone.

It's possible but it would take hours. You can slighty move NPCs by sprinting into them, and if you repeatedly do it you can take them anywhere including Death Mountain.

Honestly if death mountain erupted it could cause devastation across the map
You wanna know something really horrifying about this? Actual lava, molten rock, is very dense because it's, well, made out of rocks. So I've been told that, what would actually happen if a person fell into a pool of lava is, rather acting like water or the person just going poof in a ball of flame it would be more like dropping a piece of meat on a skillet. A skillet that is about 2000 degrees F.
In other words, it wouldn't be over instantly and it would basically be burning/cooking/vaporizing someone alive while they slid around mostly on the surface of the laval like water does when you drop it in a hot pan.
Not a pretty way to go.
Not only that, even a small pool of lava will radiate enough heat to fry you when you're just standing near it. So at least Link being set on fire when he is in that area has some realism.
