BotW's outer space feels creepily realistic. Blisteringly bright sunlight, a blue haze in the atmosphere, a spherical skybox, and a black seemingly starless sky. It's like Link was supposed to travel there at some point in development.
There's even concept art of aliens in UFOs invading Hyrule. Makes you wonder what kind of crazy ideas ended up being scrapped.
There was even concept art showing aliens invading Hyrule in UFOs. Makes me wonder what kind of crazy ideas got scrapped.
This! The way how the brightness slowly enveloped Link as he fell, the curvature of the terrain…it feels so real
@@IfaithfullyRecreatedAMetyVideoYoooo it’s Mety!!!
@@thrawn6631 no it isn't
Imagine doing all that only to hear, "It is my pleasure." Mipha being the GOAT and saving you from falling from SPAAAAAAAACE.
yeah, then you end up with 65535 + 5 hearts
@@IntegralKing Well, the 30-heart maximum the game allows for permanent upgrades also applies to yellow bonus hearts, so if you have 26 hearts she would only give you +4 bonus, and with 27, +3 bonus. (This also applies to hearty food.) No idea how this would interact with modding the hp above max, but I'm guessing it would either go up to 30, or all the way back up to 65535, but not above.
Why did I read that last part in a murder drones intro voice
GRAB ME GRAB ME GRAB ME
Mipha deserved better than dying in a divine beast fr
funny to think that all that damage would be negated by pressing X a metre off the ground
At that speed his arms might not survive lol
@@whoknows4780 i think he would already be dead before reaching the ground
Or if you exhaust Link's stamina, he automatically pulls out the Paraglider right before hitting the ground if the fall damage would kill you.
@@jruler93 no?
@@Lassie23 I'm fairly certain he does, as long as you have the Paraglider, no stamina and no auto-revives (like Mipha's Grace or a Fairy).
The Y axis always being loaded in explains why I can hear Yigas spawning below me when I'm paragliding hundreds of feet in the air
lmao
I'm suprised that from up there it kinda looks like a model of earth, almost like you were meant to go up there but couldn't due to the accuracy glitch
*BOTW2 enters the chat*
Probably just the sky texture, it’s usually a sphere.
Fun fact: The master mode dlc lets you get one-shot by enemies to make it harder.
Which is what should've happened in the normal game!
@@RGC_animation No, one shot protection is important.
@@creeperizak8971 It's like if you always had the Focus Sash in Pokemon, that would remove a bit of the challenge.
@@RGC_animation one shot protection is totally different in turn based combat, having it gives you a pretty big advantage, and if everyone has it it's just flat out annoying.
@@creeperizak8971 I know, it still makes it more challenging to not have one-shot protection.
8:11 - For those curious like I was, Link fell at a speed of (202,317 meters per hour/ 202.317 kilometers per hour/ 125.714 miles per hour). At least according to a randomly googled speed calculator. Do with that knowledge as you will.
Thanks! This is around the average terminal velocity for a human falling haha
Judging by the thumbnail it seems that link likes getting hurt he really is feeling it now
if you are in mastermode the one shot protection is turned off.
also by using multiple glitches it is actually possible to reach space without using mods
great video!
According to the doctor, Link’s heartbeat sounds like “a damn chainsaw” with each beat
Dennis and Link have something in common
"I fell for hours!"
"Ooh, hours long time!"
"Well, at least it seemed like hours. Anyway, I was falling!"
This video reminded me of the Mythbusters making Buster do things that were going to kill him again, and again... And again.
Those were good times.
So no one is going to talk about how raw of a line, "With that much health, Link wouldn't have to worry about anything. He'd be a god. But even gods can be crushed." is at 6:26, considering the subject of the video?
Now I wanna see a full time-lapse of link falling from space
I feel like link would've hit the ground like an ASTEROID after falling at max speed for that long
Link shaped craters should be all over his save if it was realistic
Terminal velocity doesn't allow a given object to accelerate beyond a certain point.
Terminal velocity would prevent that, I think
@@inthefadeyeah, because the wind resistance would outweigh gravity
@@Cannon_The_Guy Except he was falling from the thermosphere, where there is no atmosphere to slow link's falling speed, therefore link would build up speed until hitting the atmosphere at god knows what speed, realistically speaking.
These videos are super entertaining!! Seeing link falling from like 120,000 meters high is so funny
It’s kinda funny how the game has a mechanic that allows you to not be one shot that ends up making link very strong
Yeah, one-hit protection combined with instant pause menu healing kind of removes the stakes if you're remotely prepared.
@@Nat_the_Chicken I still die pretty often lmao.
@@AdaTheWatcher Hey fair enough, I'm not counting
"Remember son, dying is gay,
" -Link's father
In the Master Mode DLC, Gold Lynels can kill Link with max defense (minus status effects) with their explosion slam attack. It deals enough damage to kill Link on the spot.
Breaking News: Hylian attempts 2012 skydive without parachute, turns his bones to dust
At 2:34 I legit thought there was dirt on my screen until Swanky mentioned it was actually in the game
Id love to see a sm64 challenge where you try to surf on a koopa shell as much as possible.
Been a while since we had sm64 content
As always, amazing vid! It’s amazing watching you break these games to their limit. Can’t wait for the next one!
Imagine he accidentally pressed x to paraglide at the end
if you move like 5 meters higher does damage overflow to a point where link just survives the fall, taking no damage?
I'm guessing the game just rounds down lol
It might underflow to a negative value and heal link instead
Now I want to know what would happen.
Well the damage dealt is stored as a float rather than a 16 bit integer considering fall damage increments by 0.6 damage a meter at first. So it wouldn't over or underflow.
@@Blazingflare2000 Are you sure it doesn't just increment by 1 damage every 1.666667 meters?
I like that you explained that 65535 is the max u16(unsigned 16 bit) number.
Wrong, he explained that 65535 is the max "unassigned" 16 bit number 😆
@@EVPointMasterNo, it's unsigned.
They just wrote the wrong thing.
Well, this settles it. Breath of the Wild has no air (otherwise, fall damage would stop incrementing at some point due to air resistance).
I was wondering about terminal velocity...
No that's wrong. Because he would also need to continue falling faster and faster. Not only would he get hurt more he would be falling stupidly fast
@@OurHereafter huh? You do know about terminal velocity, right?
@@simanolastname2399 do you? you're saying botw has no air. If it had no air link would continue falling faster without limit until he hits the floor. Terminal velocity exists because the object is moving through air. No air, no terminal velocity.
@@OurHereafter That's exactly what I'm saying. There is maximum damage value in BOTW for falling, implying that the speed just keeps increasing (therefore no terminal velocity), and as such there is no air.
Fall damage is capped on Earth in real life because of maximum velocity.
It's the same in a lot of other games as well and would be in botw if it used velocity for calculating fall damage rather than distance
The issue with using velocity for fall damage is when the physics engine has an issue, anyone who's randomly died in gmod while walking around many spawned props has experienced this, the game propels the player at the ground at incredible speed and kills them (also the amount of damage done in source engine games is different depending on which one it is, the portal games have no fall damage while half life 2 does enough to kill the player at around terminal velocity even at max health, tf2 has a lot less fall damage so falling at terminal velocity doesn't do too much damage)
I'm guessing they made the fall damage increase with distance fallen to both prevent physics issues (botw uses the same physics engine (havoc) as source and lots of other games, an updated version of course but it can still get weird) and to prevent people from just jumping from high places without using the paraglider
Also for fun another example of the player getting slammed into the ground and instantly dying is some cars in fallout 4 spawning in positions that make them snap to a different position when the player touches them, applying tons of velocity to the player and killing them
An even weirder example is from the development of half life 2. Valve actually tried making the player a physics object but because of the way it worked was they had to apply tons of momentum to the player to actually move them and walking into walls became deadly
“We actually placed a platform way up in the sky”
*SSBU Main Theme starts playing*
"I have been falling for 38 minutes and 56 seconds!!!"
FREE, FREEFALLIN'!
If real world physics were at play, and assuming Link had a spacesuit, he'd burn to vapors before he ever reached Hyrule! XD
link's skeleton is now dust, congratulations
The one hit obliterator can deal more damage than that
For the Urbosa DLC you had to sneak inside their base for an orb and I got one shot by a yiga blade master with 28 hearts
I believe when you sneak through the Yiga Clan hideout (both for the Thunder Helm and later the orb if you have the DLC), the game both turns off the one-shot protection and also maximizes enemy damage. I think enemies also have maximum defense when Link is spotted as well- once when I got caught I managed to hit a blade master a strong weapon and it barely did any damage (later said weapon could kill one in about 8 swings, and a blade master has 400HP IIRC).
@@TheManofBrisk Oh I also I had Mipha’s Grace active and I had 5 fairies
_Aerosmith's "Dream On" plays_
8:22 OOF i think even Link's descendents felt that one
Imagine falling at that hight into a hazard like lave or corruption while also getting hit by a gardien
So if I fall out of the space station, hurtle towards earth, and die when I hit the ground, I’m as strong as link??
Yes.
Although it would take months or years to eventually leave orbit and fall to Earth, and you'd probably die after a few months without sustain and then burn up in the atmosphere.
I was literally about to play breath of the wild when i got the notification for this 😂 lol.
Id love to see if velocity affects the damage he takes
Like if you artifically increase gravity (i.e. downward acceleration) - does the damage increase?
I imagine they may have an effective terminal velocity though? (i..e the max char speed?)
As your V-impact is sqrt(2*g*h) and Kinetic energy is 0.5*m*v^2 - the kinetic energy at impact should scale linearly with both height and gravity acceleration - much like the damage does
Like sure it's not gonna be identical to reality, but I do kinda love how much their physics engine emulates reality
when link can barely see the ground when falling from 131000 meters in the air it honestly makes you start to hold your breath because it feels so surreal and it also looks so much like a sphere from that high
The one damage type that isn't capped is one that technically is somewhat capped irl with variables like terminal velocity.
6:40 Floating point precision jiggles; it never gets old.
I frickin love these videos and they are just as good as back when I was younger
yoo btow map is round
i bet flat earthers are pissed now
Diavolo's 17062th death
*casually explains a harvard math course while falling*
"How much pain do you want, Link?"
"HIYYAAAAAA!!!"
At 6:27, "unassigned" should be "unsigned," meaning there's no "sign bit" allowing numbers to be negative. Signed integers often work weirdly, with different programming languages expecting different data types to be signed vs unsigned, so it's kind of a headache. But the main thing you need to know is that a _signed_ 16-bit integer can go up to 32,767 (2^15 - 1), half as high as unsigned, but it can also go _down_ to -32,767, whereas unsigned integers can't go below 0. It makes sense to use an unsigned integer for hit points or health because if it goes below 0 then that's probably a glitch.
nerd.
@@marioplumber3378 Correct. What masterful deductive skills.
Totally should have referenced this in relation to the height of the highest free jump a human has performed.
If the highest point is 1000 and the lowest point is 200, wouldn't the highest fall be 800, not 1000?
When I went into the yiga clan hideout for the urbosa's song DLC quest with max armour and hearts the yiga blade masters still one shot me not in master mode. I felt like it shouldn't be done without unholy damage numbers
Those dudes take a while to kill with max ancient armour and an ancient battle axe++ with attack up 15 too
Post the full version of the fall, please.
Man who bursts into flame upon stepping near a volcano doesn't catch fire when dropping out of the stratosphere. Makes sense.
Every single video is something I never knew I wanted until I clicked on it.
Link took so much damage that He and 2184 of his future reincarnated selves were just wiped from existence
Love the video!
"Even gods can be crushed."
Should have transformed into a goldfish.
Totk really puts these games' engines in perspective
Heh, yeah. though they had to do a bunch of work on it - things kilometers above and below you aren't loaded anymore. (in fact, there's a moment where your vision is totally obscured as you enter the depths... that's so that if loading takes longer than expected they can just hold Link there until it's done)
“Die 2184 deaths!”
-Akuma probably
Nice to see the video is now out! 😃
I’m a little bit disappointed the outcome wasn’t Link spawning in and dying again instantly the 2k+ times but this was super cool to watch regardless.
For a good example of what happens when you limit decimals on numbers for game calculations see the Playstation. Textures and models wobbling on that system was due to it not supporting arbitrary decimal precision for it's math calculations, only a somewhat low resolution fixed point.
Imagine a sword ground strike from that height. Ganon would even fear.
Its weird because the fall damage is not based on metres, but on link's height
3:57 bro your abacus is jigantanorsdisplishidisly gigantonorsdis
Using some crazy glitches, you can actually get a bokoblin to hold the one hit obliterator.
Shockingly this isn’t the first time we’ve sent a major Nintendo character into space on this channel, and I doubt it’ll be the last time, either.
The experiment has concluded that terminal velocity does not exist in breath of the wild.
In other words aerodynamics in Hyrule is not bound by the laws of physics.
I've been falling for 38 minutes!!
You have now obtained Ganondorf as a subscriber
I wondered if fall damage would be the source. Nice video.
I thought you were gonna talk about the yiga clan hideout blademasters
That was definitely a bizarre trip
That title sounds like Gold Experience Requiem in a nutshell
Now that's a lot of damage!
I feel like I greatly prefer these videos to your "is it possible to beat X while Y" series. The shorter video length and more robust explanations made it much easier to enjoy the content and made the video feel less stretched out. Thanks for making this video.
The Zelda universe's planet is round confirmed
Me in 2023: Elden Ring and BOTW is not that similar
Me after I realise Link takes damage after a 20m fall and 20m is also the limit before instant death in Elden Ring: Okay I yield
But in Elden Ring don't you start to take fall damage at 16m and die at 20m?
In BotW you need to be much higher before you die from a fall
"BUT WE MUST GO HIGHER FOR THE SAKE OF SCIENCE!"
"falling from space killed Link on the spot" idk I'm sure he can recover because he's built different
rip link’s kneecaps
So uh...I have been playing botw recently, at least on my switch, I can die in one hit, no surviving, albeit these are fights I have no business being in but I swear 😂 regardless I enjoyed the video good stuff 😁
He forgot about giving enemies the one hit obliterater
Swankybox, did you know the slide in the first Bowser level is climbable if you crawl? I didn't know who else to tell this to but I find it interesting.
#1 forgot about master mode
a) forgot about gold lynels
#2 the "drop to a quarter of a heart" system functions when the following requirements are met: you were at full health before getting hit, you are not getting hit with an attack that hurts in multiple parts ( like the guardian beam and its explosion that only does so sometimes), and finally you have to be not in master mode.
Yiga Clan Blademaster:
It’s crazy to think that we will be able to go to some of these hights in tears of the kingdom
It will probably just void you out when falling off the islands
Funny enough, with the polygons spazzing out, I've seen this similar situation happen quite a few games! Primarily Roblox too! I wonder just what causes this whether it be rendering or just physics in general.
If you still want to know, it's a computer quirk. "Floating-point numbers" are an important concept in computers and games. The key takeaway is that floating-point numbers are very versatile, and can store very precise OR very large numbers, but not both. The larger the value you try to store in floating-point, the less precise it becomes, and very large numbers have almost no precision at all.
Eventually if you get enough height, the number storing the height becomes so large that it loses all its precision, and Link can only fall several units at a time which causes that jagged movement.
Great! Now do this again with sky islands and the depths!
bro got hit by Golden Experience Requiem.
If you fell from slightly higher would the binary number overflow and you would actually take very little damage?
You forgot about Revali's Gale - you could've gained a couple additional meters above the 5km platform.
655355 Is actually widely used troughout the game. Its the max for durability up and attack up weapons as well as miscellaneous gamedata flags throughout the game. If your interested on how the games map data is structured I can tell you about it sometime
Makes sense, that's the max size of a 16-bit number (aka a halfword or unsigned short on the Switch hardware)
Now you gotta do it in tears of the kingdom from the highest point you can be to the lowest point in the depths while diving at max speed
I kinda want to see an inventory full of fairies with normal link health.
Please do a video on reclaims in SMM2 (a reclaim is when you jump off of and kick a shell at the same time so that you can get past certain kaizo sections)
3:37 totk lore
In swankyboxs mario 64 box carry run i found that granting immunity to every door in big boos haunt and hazy maze cave nets you 7 additional stars for the outlined ruleset due to the jump heights 5 for big boos haunt 1 for hazy maze cave and the metal cap red coins along with the metal cap switch being activated as it is impossible to get big boos balcony and eye to eye in the secret room the only star obtainable in hazy maze cave other than metal cap red coins is swimming beast in the cavern
what about when the poor bastard reaches terminal velocity, and won't fall any faster?
Nobody talkin abou how that Guardians leg glitched at 0:50
