I want to thank you so much for allowing me an entryway back in to my love of high fashion. I was obsessed from the ages of 12-19, and then life got in the way. I started thinking of fashion in general as something I didn't have the time or money for and also, just as a vaguely silly art form. It still is largely irrelevant to my life, but when I watch your videos I'm taken back to place where my obsession and love for beauty, fit, function, tailoring is once again an escape. Your knowledge of fashion history lights up my own recessed research, and I'm able to recall things that never in a million years I thought I would retain from the books I poured over as a teen. Anyway, your videos bring me a ton of joy. Hope you're having a good day, Luke.

I was a big fan of Fendi this season, maybe it's the pastels and softness for me. Miss Sohee is really doing so well, the outfits are glamorous but almost fantastical. The Botega frog, finale and mushroom dresses are so cute to me and when you told me the shirt and pants were leather I couldn't believe it!

    • @theoriginalallison
      @theoriginalallison 2 роки тому

I agree! I'm also biased because I have loved the color palette of the recent seasons of Fendi visually and because those colors would look good on me so I could envision them in my dream wardrobe. Bottega had lovely accessories but I do feel like they might be trying to force the youthful/relaxed vibe when there is nothing relaxed about the textiles. Maybe it's because I think jeans and a t shirt is more of a timeless look by now than a sign of youth.

I adore Miss Sohee. That golden tiger dress and the blue leopard mini dress stole my breath. They are GORGEOUS!! The whole collection is beautiful. But I hate, and I do mean HATE, that D&G is the fashion house helping them flourish. I am personally done with D&G.

Yeah, I'm glad that Miss Sohee is getting the finances they need to make such beautiful creations, small houses do need support, but man I hope that Miss Sohee can gain enough traction to make it without D&G or maybe get a different financier with time. We'll see.

I really appreciate how you refrain from identifying or discussing models in these videos. Where other people at 1:26 would have said 'over Bella's shoulder' you just say 'the model's shoulder'. It's small but I just enjoy that the focus is purely the clothes and the design, when celebrity seems to dominate everything these days.

I'm so happy as a Korean to see Miss Sohee become a recognized fashion brand, but I actually gasped when you said D&G is somewhat involved.
I hope D&G is purely just providing them resources and does not become involved in any other way or else I would be absolutely devastated! I hope I won't need to he turned away from the brand because I love the incorporation of Korean history and art being presented beautifully in those pieces by Miss Sohee.

I just discovered your channel the other day, and I must say: it is so refreshing to find! Mainstream fashion coverage has become so “dumbed down” with the accessibility of social media, that most of it is just meaningless. You- on the other hand- are so well spoken and knowledgeable! I really love how you tie in the historical references within your discussions of particular looks.
I know mainstream culture has satirized the intellectualization of the fashion industry throughout the past 40 years (at LEAST,) but to those who truly appreciate fashion as an artistic medium, we should be discussing it with the insight and perspective that art deserves. I feel this depth of consideration has really been absent from culture for too long- thank you for bringing such a lovely and thoughtful voice to all of us!

Diesel Nightmare. Worked for diesel full time for a year in one of the Scandinavian flagships. The only thing that was well produced in the store was honestly the jeans.
During my time in diesel, i was sexually harassed by customers, stalked by customer yet repeatedly told to serve those same customers. The work environment and management was borderline evil. The regional manager dan was using scare tactics to torment the workers. Having to wear the collections for work daily i had several sweaters lose their sleeves, collection pieces do not survive getting washed.
RENZO visited the store, and groped my colleague’s ass. And generally he was very touchy.
We were encouraged to target asian customers, so racist .
I can keep going, diesel is so gross, and i am still traumatised from working for them.

I really appreciated several of those Diesel looks. Sure I'm not going to pay for that, but I can appreciate that the concepts of adjustments like that will probably work their way down to more commercial manufacturers... And, I can use them myself if I decide to make skirt or top. ... And, I honestly truly appreciate Cavalli's way of incorporating BDSM into his looks. You are completely right. It doesn't look like demeaning trash. It looks like something a person with a taste for that would actually want to wear. There is an element of quality and beauty to his use of buckles and straps that I haven't seen before. It doesn't seem like a cheap attempt at shock value. Instead, it looks like he was seriously considering what someone with such preferences might enjoy wearing. >>>> BUT.... BUT ..... I was just super pleased to see the 'Spirited Away' purse you have on display in your background. I just was smiling while I watched your video. It is hard to be disappointed when you have Spirited Away to counteract any sadness. So, thank you!

Like with so much effort placed on artistic references and shock factor and quick turnaround trends one forgets that the ateliers have so much skill at their disposal so to just see amazingly crafted pieces that showcase the high point of what can be constructed is a real treat. Like the collection seems like the opulence and quality that the average person maxing out their credit card could never attain. It’s almost aspirational. There were definitely a few pieces in each collection that were haute. I miss the days when you could find these designers for great prices at Century 21 in Manhattan, then wear them around NYC without getting attacked by a violent rampaging lunatic. Appreciate all the history and context you also provide.

Growing up in country where we had term “Dizelashi” (correctly Dizelaši) coming from brand Diesel I hated it. It was a synonym for poor taste and over exaggeration in everything. I still cringe on air max , logos all over the clothes and of course Diesel 😬 I was so surprised when I saw them coming back and it has evoked childhood 😂. Diesel show was really good though.

Huge fan of Glenn! Such a smart designer, he fits perfect with DIESEL , whyle keeping it in the DIESEL family whyle doing his own thing with a perfect outcome that is in harmony (same when he did JPG)
The new BV designer Matthieu Bazy also has a 🇧🇪 background,
Nicolas di Felice for Couregges ,.. Demna gvasalia, Haider Ackermann,.. to name a few that studiet at Antwerp
Very happy to see Belgians designers or did go to Antwerp fashion college doing so good
Proud Belgian here (its a very small country) 🌻

My favorites as defined by what I would wear IF I had money (not what I found solely artistic) were: (1) Diesel shibori top (2) Cavalli leather multicolor roses (if placed on a black dress or jacket or accessory) and (3) Prada's black skirt suits. Maybe I will see that shibori top on a vintage/recycle site sometime around 2025?

Suffering through the first two or three collections paid off; the clothing got more attractive after that. As usual, your commentary is invaluable.

Diesel killed it, one of the most surprising shows. Diesel hasn’t really been on anyones map in a while, it’s pretty crazy how that changed in an instant lol
