That's just super impressive. I picked up a couple of these because the design is so modern. The Y straps plus the adjuatable leather skirt on the back use the same fitment design principle as a modern bicycle helmet. These M73's are the best of the steel helmets. That sloped shape prevents the rounds from hitting a flat surface, very good design. I have one for myself and one for my wife, stashed away in the BOB.
Someone who didn’t watch to the end-“WeLL HeLmEtS aReN’t MaDe tO StOp BuLLeTs!” Great video as always Mike👍🏻 I got my Austrian and German field caps a couple weeks ago and like them a lot! Even wore the Austrian one to work!
I actually recieved one of these this morning and I had a feeling you had a ballistic test up. Makes me feel a little better if I had to use mine in a real situation.
by the way, in your balistic test playlist, i do not see test about hungarian M70, so, i was wondering: did you made a balistic test with a hungarian M70? if yes is it not there because patreon only? (wich i can understand, as ammo and helmets don't grows on the ground like grass) or because it has disapeared?
Jesus, Devin K and I both had Hungarian M70 tests on our channels, and now they're both mysteriously gone with no notification. Guess I'll have to do another one and back it up on a harddrive and keep re-uploading it..
@@MikeB128 ouch seeing how YT seems to enjoy remooving/erasing valuable informations and testing, it seems that uploading as well on another platform (not for the vews, but to have it somewhere as a backup, just in case there's not enough HDD storage for all of them) might be a good idea
Mike can you do a video on how to put on a m1 helmet cover, every time I put mine on the cover fits super loose and I wish I could make it fit on the helmet better
get it wet. then pull it as tight over the helmet as you can. Put the liner in it, then put the camo band over it. pull out the liner and grab the fringe parts of the cover inside the helmet and push them down. Put the liner back in and then push the camo band down toward the rim. Let it it dry.
@@MikeB128 I was hoping you were using some form of surplus, definitely an armor killer. I wonder how differently commercial ppu or s&b would perform in this test.
@@MikeB128 I would think that the steel projectile in the surplus ammo would account for some of it's penetrating capability. Have you ever tried using the Czech surplus ammo? It's supposed to be some of the hottest stuff you can get. I've tried testing it myself in witch I'm not sure I got a good reading because it showed upwards of 1700 fps.
I am from Romania and that helmet was way too small to fit my head. An yes, it was designed desing to look like penis so we can scare the Russian ! Russians are scared of penis helmet :))
You should draw straws and see which one of you has to wear the helmet next time for the lower caliber rounds. Now that would be entertaining and a interesting study.

Самые лучшие это м56 ГДР, они прочнее и держат пулю ТТ.

Interesting how it opened up both times rather than just a round hole.
Not too bad for an old steel helmet! Might not stop a rifle; but holds up well so long as your opponent's not a cowboy or a tokarev lover! Lol
This video is awesome, I just bought one of these M73s and just wanted to see what kind of protection it would offer. Thanks for the info!
Bought one from you, beautiful condition, thanks!
Cool video, keep up the great work.
Nicely done mike
Finally!!!! Its back!!!
The penis comment got me and my brother rolling! Thanks for another informative and entertaining video, Mike!
What a great video

Would you ever do a modern helmet like a high cut or an op core style
I've done a bunch of modern helmets....Check out the rest of the playlist..

Are you serious?
Mike B now that I think of it that was a dumb thing to ask srry

Would this also stop a 9mm out of a submachine gun? That would add about 100 FPS
No idea, you should do a test.
Relatively impressive for an old steel helmet. What 7.62x25 ammo do you use in these tests?
50s Polish 85 grain surplus.

@@Destroyer4790 Probably a little less velocity but probably not too much less effective.

i wish chinese helmets were easier to get i wanna see how they preform
Oh nice. Morning
Do you reckon the original Dutch design would have fared similarly?
Your guess is as good as mine.
Шлем м56 ГДР более прочный. Качество стали никто не отменял, и румыны не могут соревноваться с немцами.

Same here, barely fits on my head
3:45 I wonder what idiot would actually buy a shot up helmet

Yeah, because that's worth it............................
