High Desert prisoner swap details released, and why some have concerns on how it happened

  • The Nevada Department of Corrections moved prisoners between the Ely and High Desert State Prisons during a massive prisoner swap.

    As someone who worked as a state corrections officer up to Lt. Position and detentions officer, exchanges take place all the time for safety or security reasons.
    This is done without public knowledge due to the high likelihood of someone attempting a prison break, especially anyone that is a 'high priority' which usually means an offender who was recently highly publicized due to trial and nature of crime or is a higher up in an affiliated gang. Sometimes 90% of the doc employees won't even know where a high priority is housed unless it is where they work or they transported them, so expecting the public to be notified of any changes, swaps, or transports in the works is certainly not going to happen.

    The good thing for Indian Springs is across the road, there is a lot more surveillance in that area than going south.

    You would be surprised what some prisons are like. Some of them let prisoners out so they can move around. People can pick them up and leave with them in their cars. Nevada prisons let too many convicts escape.
