Yo people! Just a few things to note:
1. Something I didn't mention in regards to insulation is damp. Particularly if you plan on actually heating your garage/home gym - it's something you need to think about/consider (or ask somebody with expertise). Didn't want to make the video too long by going down every possible rabbit hole...
2. I've since decided to ditch that treadmill. I think in favour of an assault bike (because I like my cardio short and intense nomsayin), but would be interested to hear any suggestions for that space.
3. There's a sale currently at www.primalstrength.com
4. If you're new here, subscribe.
5. There are chapters if you want to skip around.
Hi when will you app be available to download on android
I also have a properly old ragged treadmill that I wouldn’t mind replacing or upgrading. My other piece of cardio equipment is the Rogue Echo Bike. As far as short intense cardio it is unrivaled
skipping rope. It would also go well with the punching bag.
As for things that keep your cardio short and intense, Im suprised that you haven't gone for a rowing machine
can't go wrong with a concept2 rower or rogue echo bike. Concept2 probably better because of the small footprint when up right and the ability to do short/long cardio bouts.
'lets start from the start" brilliant opening line
**cuts to a shot of me being born**
And the end line: ‘it’s always the start’
A variation on ‘first things first’😂
Honestly 😂😂😂😂😂
Great work with the gym upgrade Joe, looks sick!
Can you link me the garage door insulation stuff including the black sheets you used and what you used to stick it onto the door? TIA!
Editing is really ridiculously good. Great scripts, to the point with no BS.
Joe is kinda the unicorn of natural fitness youtubers.
Never seen Joe so excited for anything before. I thought he was actually going to crack a smile with the cable smoothness. Great vid as always
The fabric on the ceiling is actually a great solution. Audio and aesthetic bonus
love the way you make your videos mate, thanks for the quality of work you put in every time
Glad you enjoy them mate
Have Primal DAP in my studio, 4 years old and still going strong. Keep up the good work, your humour is so mine.
For your lack-of-heat problem -- a simple manifold off your existing boiler into a radiator (or two)?
Electric radiant panels near your primary workout stations would work too.
Radiant heat works by heating objects (like you) rather than the entire volume of air, so they're ideal for turning on when you're working out and then off when you're not.
I'd been subscribed to ur channel and following all ur videos for the past 2 years and my own home gym is inspired by ur's totally! Ur home gym has always been the next level man! Pure madness.
I would like to give a small suggestion by adding a reverse back extension bench, where u can do back extension in strengthening ur lower back and u can use it for preacher curl as well!
My home gym is the great value version of yours. I've got old horse mats that are taped together, a 5-30 dumbell tree, a 25 lb kettlebell, a used smith machine cage from golds gym with pullies on the corners and a floor pulley for rows, an adjustable bench with the leg extention attachment and a pull up/dip station from a kids playground. Honestly I mostly just use the free weights and the cage for benching. Been switching back and forth from PPL and upper/lower routines every 6 month or so.
Sick home gym mate. The installation of the black fabric over spray-foam was satisfying af for some reason haha.
such a great home gym, keep smashing it Joe
Urgh, can't wait to have my own home gym. Great video for inspiration (and aspiration!) - thanks x
Super awesome set up! Would be nice to see some vids of exercises you recccomend to implement into your workouts, like the cable lying lat raises, if you have access to any of these machines at the gym : )
Respect... just respect for having done all of this.
Just got a garage that’s 20cm narrower, but 2m longer. Absolutely buzzing to see an example of what I can build. Cheers la
This is amazing mate, and loved the vid. Big ups Joey D
Favorite channel for bodybuilding content 🙏
Gone from the yearly Ibiza trip to the yearly Gym update 😉... it's looking good!
That was a genuinely enjoyable video. Totally incredible layout and very impressive pieces of kit. It has inspired me somewhat tp think about something like this when I do eventually get the deposit to have my own place.
That’s sick bruv
Tidy smart proper decked out !
I need to do the same thing to my gayrage in Alaska. Thanks for the walk through!
Sick. I'm building my home gym at the moment, great inspiration, cheers. I think I'd add just three things: 1. some kind of chest press machine (probably incline, ideally one in which the angle and the grip can be adjusted, unless one runs into the same engineering issues as the leg extension/curl combo), 2. a multigrip cambered bar, which doubles as a multigrip pullup bar too 3. a couple of sturdy, large plyo boxes, not only for jumps-cardio but also for unilateral leg exercises, seal rows (putting the bench on top of them to increase the distance from the floor) and several other things.
I agree with your point and justifications for the pieces of equipment. I'd like to add Its also about preference and what ever improves adherence if you dont have the equipment you need, you'll generally train less or make excuses more often.
Heat rises so that area above the black sheeting on the ceiling will collect the heat. You could probably just lay some cheap thin wood up there and then some insulation over it, maybe even some old duvets or blankets or something. Might keep the gym a few degrees higher on chilly days. If you have any plumber mates, you could also just put a radiator in there.
Thanks for this I’ve been looking at upgrading my basic home gym (barbell and 195kg of plates, dumbbell rack, bench, kettle bell set (8-32kg) pull/dip station, weight belt and bands, also jump rope and exercise bike) but I keep overthinking full rack/half rack/smith machine (got a basic squat/bench rack combo) luckily I live in Thailand so no insulation on the large roofed terrace (just a few industrial cafe fans above) I do usually do one upper and lower day at the gym for the extra machines, might make the cash plunge and get a pulley machine and leg extension.
Nice upgrades! I think you’ll want to do the ceiling in the future/add heating/cooling but anyone would die for this set up.
Wow you have great idea! I learn from you so nice room
Another video done to perfection, one I will no doubt be revisiting again when I'm looking at what to improve in my home gym. I only have a single garage, and have kitted out with as much as I (affordably) can. Be interested in getting your thoughts Joe
Get some garage door brush seals (look on screwfix) - they will help insulate the gaps around the edges
Thanks for using the superior weight measurement no freedom units.
That is a dope looking gym…thank you for the walk through…building mine in my basement…hope to get to this level someday🤘
Awesome completion!!! 🎉
Deffo looking at those Adjustable benches, Looks awesome.
Maybe a Brush type of attatchment to the bottom of the garage door perhaps ? A mult layer bristle that would be thick enough to retain a chunk of your interior heat .... and would sweep the floor perhaps aswell ?
this is so cool one of my wishlist
Awesome idea on the ramp for calf raises. I had just been laying down a 2x4 until I could get around to building some sort of platform. But checked amazon and saw a rubber curb ramp for $39. Hopefully that will work out and save me the trouble.
Phenomenal gym!
Well done!
Hammer Strength's plate loaded seated calf machine is small and versatile. As well as calf raises you can do hyperextensions and glute ham raises.
Hi Joe, you seem to have more spring in your step nowadays, not as monotone as you used to be 😂 Awesome stuff, the gym is absolutely amazeballs ❤
Looks awesome man enjoy
Looks great.
Maybe add a leg press/ hack squat combo?
I know Primal have just released one.
Your home Gym setup is legit, Primal Strength is great quality brand. As for the space I would suggest a 45° Leg Press, and I would recomend the Powertec, value for money, takes smaller footprint than others and I am very happy with it.
Good run through I enjoyed the journey
This home gym is 🔥🔥
For the draft under the garage door you could probably use a door brush strip (I think that's what they're called). It would do f all for the cold, but it would stop the draft.
Quality video as ever Joe. I recently bought a Redrow home in the last year, unfortunately it is only a single size single skin garage (obviously we do not operate on the same budget 😂). However, I took major inspiration/design stealing from your first video to create my home gym and it’s been working out great for me. I have a bike, DB rack, fully adjustable bench & a half rack with bumper plates, with some niche weighted vests/belts etc.. as well. I have very limited room left and also a shorter ceiling height of only 2.10m. Would be great to get your thoughts on one major item I could stick in (i.e small enough cable pulley, Leg ext/hamstring curl, calf machine etc…). Also might just have to copy you with insulating the door, garage is getting freezing this time of year
This is the sort of gym set up I'd like. Nice double garage space, black and white on the walls, decent lighting, but nothing crazy.
Looks good Joey
Home gym looking sick mate
Looks unreal!
Just built a home gym myself. Started off by sealing all the gaps with expanding foam and painting everything black. Damp proofed the floor with a damp proof membrane, picked up some flooring mats and then was onto the equipment. My garage is only a 1 car garage so not as much room to get different machines for each exercise so picked up a MARCY ECLIPSE RS7000 DELUXE SMITH MACHINE HOME GYM WITH BENCH, literally has so much in one machine. Also, got a treadmill but I'm now in need of some dumbbells but obviously they're very pricey so was thinking of buying some adjustable ones, been looking at the Bowflex 1090i but not set on them if anyone could recommend any. Also i picked up an oil filled radiator but it's causing a lot of condensations so I think I need to get a dehumidifier
This is an awesome build! Nice 💪
I was about to dm u and ask u about ur gym 🥰 finally u read my mind tnxs man
awesome set up joe -- if you dont really get that much out of the deadlift matt and space -- highly recommend a simple leg press -- would pretty much complete a leg workout session -- i find with a ahome gym -- i have myself a smaller set up -- its very difficult to cover the whole leg routine -- everything else can get covered easily in your own set up but i find myself still going to my local gym at least once a week just to make sure i get my legs fully covered
Really nice setup, all you really need imo
Great video
this is sick nice work
Love the primal gear, Steve was really active on the Facebook groups too during lockdown.
I have a similar space to you however my garage door is an up and over electric which scuppers a lot of the height across half of it and we still need to use some for ‘garage’ shit.
Next year hopefully going to build some custom storage to expand the space and copy some of your moves!
Yep, even the track that mine runs on still limits where I can put things to an extent. A roller door would be best but looks pretty ugly on the outside.
I also bought a shed for storage, but can imagine that's not convenient if you have bikes or something you need to grab and go.
Insulated roller door and some light tunnels in the roof for natural light.
Looks sick mate 🤘🏼
Great video Joe. I'm looking at kitting out a similar size garage and was just wondering where you got those panel lights from and how bright they are?
dope gym. Definitely an inspo for my own
Thanks
Your video is appreciated. FYI: Instead of adding both racks, you could also have splurged for the REP ARES 6 posts 5000 series functional trainer setup. 😉
My hero 🎉
Sick gym. I've said it before but it would be great to see how big you could get naturally. Since you said you're probably done with the bulk and cut life
You could have gotten the Prime Hybrid leg extension/leg curl combo. That machine' you can do seated leg extensions and then the bench folds down so you can do laying down leg curl and get that full movement. They have it in weight stack or plate loaded so you can never out grow it.
Joe......that's insane mate
Joe - You need an electric roller door mate! Keeps it nice a toasty. Stick a few nice thin horizontal high level windows in for the natty light!
Interesting! Also thinking about swapping my rack for a smith machine combo.
Awesome gym well done great achievement
16:00 Genius 💯🙌
Joe is Goated man
Quality content as usual man! I took a few ideas from your first video when I built my gym (namely the black wall) and it looks DOPE. I have a stand alone lat pull down / low row machine that I’m considering swapping for a functional trainer. Think it’s worth switching if I only have room for one?
Yeah mate, I would say so. You will still be able to do some single arm lat pulldowns (like the ones I showed in the video) and could even do some cable rows sat with your chest against an upright/incline bench (holding both cables), so you're not really losing any movements, but gaining a lot. If you have somewhere to do pull-ups especially, no real need for a lat pulldown (although I do see why people have them in home gyms because they are typically pretty small footprint).
One of the sickest home-gym's ever, 100kg cables are lit, as are that bench and smith/rack. I'd say assault bike or rowing machine instead of a treadmill, unless you and your body like running.
Every fibre of my being detests running to be honest (unless it's after a ball - as in football, not fetch). I think I will go assault bike 👍
This was definetly INSANE
I can personally vouch for primal strength. I have olympics weights and bar from them. Very high quality and the value for the quality is good
This video is gonna push you over 600k
Good job men! 👍👍💪
I'm sure you've thought about it. An idea could be bricking up where the garage door is, putting a door in there and a long horizontal window across the top.
Man like one thing I’m so excited about is buying a home and building a garage/basement gym and videos like this make me giddy about it lmao
Great video Joe, lots of ideas. I’ve only got a single garage, but over the last few years I’ve managed to squeeze in an extendable squat stand / rack for use with a 6ft bar, a cable cross machine, adjustable dumbbells, and a spin bike. Bought a really cheap bench, but I miss the leg extension like you mentioned but no space for it. Looking at upgrading to a bench with leg extension attachments to hang plates on - any views on them?
did u ever get one
Brilliant joe 💪🏻 iv just finished building a shed to have as my home gym. Managed to set up the new bench but started to get dark before I could set up the squat rack. Got everything from Hy Gym
Damn, shed gonna be even colder than a garage this winter ha! Better get some layers on man!
@@JoeDelaneyy haha I know I usually heat it up 15 min before I go in with one of those energy saving heaters then switch it off once I’m warmed up
Hi Joe great, useful vid as per, wanted to ask approx how much did this extra addition of equipment cost you? cheers
Well done hitting 600k Mr. Bundy!!
Thanks mate
Hey Joe - thanks for this video.
I’ve got space for one ‘machine’. Thinking of getting the dual cable rather than the rack. What do you think? Cheers
Sick gym! Recommend the John Lewis oil filed radiator to take the edge off this winter.
I have a cheap argos style bench i picked up second hand on market place with a light olympic bar it has a leg press attachment and a preacher bench
I have hit the max weight on it with bench press , dead lift and squats
thinking of getting a squat rack to replace it... maybe one with a lat pull down on it
just been doing a 5x5
dont want to break the bank as i have only been lifting about 3 months and not consistant some weeks but loving it
would you recommend the squat rack?
Hey Joe, love the video, suggestion; you could take out the treadmill to either an assault bike, assault runner or a Ski-Erg. Much love.
Yep, think I'll go for the assault bike.
Joe da goat
Nice work, Joe 🎉 Primal Strength stuff is great, and that FB page is a good source of inspiration for home gym owners too (if not necessarily the best for bank balance) 😂 For people that don’t have space for the leg extension or Smith machines, but do have a rack and some kind of jammer arm that can be attached to the rack, what would you recommendation be for the best way to hit leg accessory movements like leg extension, hamstring curl, calf raise etc.
I think leg extension is the most difficult as there isn't really a quad isolation replacement you can do with free-weights. I do some stuff in this video from around the 5 mins 30 mark: ua-cam.com/video/OXn-fhrQQrw/v-deo.html&
But none of it is particularly comfortable or easy, so I don't know if I would just concentrate on doing a couple of different squat/lunge variations for quads. Calves, you should be able to do raises holding the jammer arms, as they will be more stable than holding a free bar. Single leg DB raises are fine too if you stand on a plate/ramp and hold onto your rack with your free hand. For hams, again an isolation is difficult without a machine. You can do some lying leg curls, lying forwards on an incline bench with a DB between your feet, but again, that's a bit awkward. Although it's not a curl, I rely mainly on RDLs for the hamstring work I do at home.
Great home gym and Primal do have some good equipment which I can vouch for too... Well done. I wouldn't of went with the spray foam for your roof though! ATB
This is absolutely what I want for my pt business 😢
Hi Joe. Spot on transformation here....I've seen this clip a few times this upload that is, but I've come back to it as I'm doing my next home gym....but just noticed something that isn't actually in your gym. At 17.06 you can see what looks like wall control pegboards. What are these (make an model if you know) and where did you get them.....wall control in the UK is hard to get hold of....and I need metal as they are for cable attachment (I'm going down the Rep Athena rack system so wall mounted attachments are needed as it's a totally open rack with integrated cables. Sounds like you're a local lad too I'm based in Audenshaw...I'm guessing you're not far away from looking at some of your other clips.
Spot on channel and great content as always sir....keep up the great work
J
Gym looks sick Joe! Where do you put all your proper garage shit tho (tools, sports equipment, etc.)? My makeshift covid gym resembled the storeroom at a hardware store
Footy boots, tennis rackets etc in the boot of the car. Everything else in the garden shed. Miscellaneous stuff that I never use in the loft. Would definitely be useful to store stuff in there but I don't know how good UA-cam videos would look with a lawnmower in the background.
Super cool
Thoughts on leg-press + hack squat combo machines? Leg extension machine is enough?
Also, do you think completely vertical smith machine is better than a slightly angled one? Opinion on smith machine squats as leg press / hack squat alternative?
I used your initial home gym video to do my garage out, was much appreciated! Have you got somewhere I can send a picture to?
DM it to me on IG mate
Joe, great looking gym, though you'll definitely want to consider removing the spray foam. It'll be a pain in the arse to do but given you've cloth-lined the space and won't see it the kingspan would have been the way to go. Spray foam is pretty awful for damaging roof timbers, and I've seen it lead to a whole new roof being required from rotten timbers. It's perhaps slightly less of an issue as it's just your garage, but it's a big no-no on most mortgage lenders guidelines, and they simply won't touch properties with it. If you come to sell, I'd not be shocked if you'd need to get it removed at that point in order to get the sale to go through - if it was inside the house you'd definitely need to do that. Any surveyor worth their salt will recommend it being removed.
