For my pub/restaurant gigs - When the hot weather hits, I dress down to colourful Hawaiian shirts, as well as, wear a modified 'server apron' (which I use to hold decks of cards, maybe a packet trick wallet & a Sharpie). If there's a stretch of cooler weather, I'll switch back to my jacket briefly again.
For kid shows - I always keep a cool, damp face-cloth in my case, which I will constantly wipe away any sweat happening on my forehead or around the eyes.

Great advice! I used to do a lot of busking, which could easily be 6+ hours in the Australian sun.
I ended up doing a lot of the things you recommended, but I had the issue that I would sweat so I couldn't see when the sunscreen went into my eyes.
Over the years, I devised a special sunscreen routine:
    1. High quality face sunscreen that doesn't sting your eyes as much (La Roche-Posay Anthelios - I have no idea if it's available in other countries).
    2. Lipbalm with sunscreen protection (sunburnt lips are not fun).
    3. Alcohol based sunscreen for my hands, so they are protected without all the sticky residue.
    4. Basic sunscreen for the rest of my body.
Then I would bring all four with me in a bag and reapply usually once half way through the day.

That is awesome advice! Long exposure to the sun or heat can be deadly.

I live in Florida so heat issues are a very constant thing here. But it's not just the heat, it's the humidity. So leave the pasteboards at home and concentrate on performing something else.
I have an add-on surcharge for outside shows. If they're willing to pay it, I'll do the show, but I try to avoid outdoor shows as much as possible. I'm not as young as I used to be. I also have my own 10' x 10' tent that I bring to the show if they don't have one.
One tip that I was given by a Florida magician was always wear a cotton t-shirt. It will soak up most of the sweat and make you look more cool and dry.

Thanks so much for this. I hate heat more than anything and have been hesitant to perform outdoors during summer months. This advice is so helpful

@@rickreation0 super happy to hear that! I have seen performers pass out even from the heat so make sure to protect yourself!

That's some really good advice sir. At around 11:00 mark you talk about what is called a "shoulder holster" and they make one for magicians by Higher Caliber Leather. I'm a Florida native that used to have to do gigs outside in summer and it's brutal. I've even been forced to do strolling magic on a beach in the Bahamas in the summer a few times whilst gigging on the Big Red Boat in the mid 90s! it always blew my mind when people would think that a magician is a good idea outside in the summer, in the daytime.
Magic, to me, should be presented in the evening, in the right atmosphere but ya gotta pay the bills so I adapted. I wore cotton or linen pants and a hat with a brim and created a "character" for that environment, I was thinking, what would Panama Jack do? if he was a magician because I always liked that look as well as really cool Hawaiian shirts, I wore a fanny pack or would carry an interesting backpack or an old Drs bag, carpet bag or a crossbody sling bag, John Born makes one as well if you can find one.
Performing in the heat is not impossible but it's not ideal and I would always try and figure out a way to perform inside or under shelter and sometimes would even pass on gigs to someone else. I am a heavy sweater and add the stress of performing and it's like a water fall pouring down my face, that's not a good look so I've learned when to say when. A lot of the time you just have to tell the client how you work and stick to it so you can deliver the best performance you can, which they in turn deserve. Thanks again Michael for posting your videos, I like them and have subbed!
