Anybody want to have a listening party at the 7-Eleven parking lot?
Bourgeois ideology is what he's talking about. Subjective idealism. Anyone who stays as an academic without taking part in practice to change the world is stuck in that bubble.
Well said.
it is. hence its no longer left in any form and talkin AS IF it is still left is clearly damaging every left movement. in most cases its rightwing woke cancel talk strategy to still call this left in any form, when its just bourgeoise policy of the capitalisms leftovers, not the poor or else, but the ones with income to have a fairly good life, as a form of collection movement to get these leftovers united under a new economic fascist flag against all others
We live in a shared fantasy that by its nature fosters predatory behaviour & narcissism, without it one cannot survive capitalism
People can sense they’re having to compromise their own humanity hence the MH crisis
Theses on Feuerbach, No.11, by Karl Marx!
bourgeois ideology is bourgeois theology with which the masses are indoctrinated
My God, the humility of this man is just hard to comprehend. He learned all of those languages for somebody who is going to say absolutely nothing but in various languages oh how fantastic meanwhile everything is falling apart, but don't ask the French that they love it.
Fantastic edit. It’s taken years of wading through the mud of the New Left for me to finally find clarity.
Those philosophers were part of
1960s New Left, outside of ( partly) New Left Review?
For example, in US, all new left magazines ignored those thinkers.
One never saw them in Nrw Left Notes, Ramparts, The Nation,
Resistance, Monthly Review,
Science & Society,Z Magazine,
etc. wrote like they never heard of
those French philosophers (apparently fortunately).
Terrific compilation. Very much looking forward to the book in progress mentioned, "The Intellectual World War."
Excellent compilation. Very helpful to have all this set out and organized in one video.
Gabriel is so brilliant! 😮
This is the smallest of things and it’s unimportant to the conversation, but I adore how much his voice reminds me of Parenti’s.
All bourgeois theory has to deliver is a VIEW, a perspective, on the bourgeois society that makes you feel comfortable as it denies any form of taking action.
"What is to be done . . . ? Nothing at all (but buy my book)." Great ending.
I was a little disappointed when I saw that this is a compilation rather than a new presentation, but I hadn't actually heard them all. Thanks!
I have to mention that I've been reading r/Communism on Reddit from time to time, and the people there seem deeply committed to "Do nothing, stay home and read." I can't decide whether I think feds are involved or whether it's just the success of defeatist propaganda.
OK Liberal.
Both, but sadly more the latter.
I know this is a month late response, but, regarding Reddit, Reddit and many other "alternative" blogosphere/forum/social media sites are heavily patrolled, moderated by, and posted on by the U.S. state department. A study found that the most "Reddit addicted city" was Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. Many of the big-tent more broad subreddits are the digital version of anti-communist/pro-imperialist magazine and newspapers of the past. There are *some* subreddits that are better than others, the one I like is r/shitliberalssay, but it's not all that theoretical or dense.
The way he criticizes his own philosophy at the time of 9/11 is so interesting.
Compatible left seems a continuation of WW l rightwing
Social Democrats who fought for
rival Euro capitalists.
people spend too much time criticising others and not themselves.
Brilliant and crucial work!
Please inform viewers the charges/reasons why high-ranking military officials that current coup leaders are calling "political prisoners" are imprisoned.
U guys are awesome!
Great compilation. Thank you so much! And be careful out there Gabriel.❤ (6 ways from Sunday....)

@ayaz372 oh boy this channel is great
So excited to find this channel & discussion
Learned people with the scholarly & scientific abilities to express the interdisciplinary patterns my mind can discern/intuit but I lack the language & skills to communicate
Most importantly, the human integrity & courage to speak it
Evolutionary we’re storybased sentient beings with human trust & this is what is being exploited by default by a psychologically immature ideology that is being presented as if it was culture
The underpinning principles are in direct opposition to those of cooperation & putting the wellbeing of the collective before individual self interest from whence humanity was spawned
Vulnerable to the environment & prey to predatory animals we would never have survived the savanna & developed humanity without it
Not transitioning well into living in larger groups we’ve let ourselves be led not by wise elders who cares for our survival but by people with a damaged, unhealthy &/or never developed humanity
The vast majority are stuck in an ideological Plato’s cave in which they’re becoming increasingly predatory seeking survival & care only for what they think are themselves but actually it’s just a reflection of what they think they are (or could’ve been had they not entered the cave)
Life will go on with or without us but no doubt this path of ours, of putting “the economy” & “market” ahead of humanity is a regressive mutation
Of course this time we’ve developed technology that can wipe all humans out & those with their hands on the levers are not fit to be in that position
Massive psychological healing & growth is required if we’re to survive & a large dose of compassion & understanding too
GREAT CONTENT
Military is welded to the universities, ever since the so-called "handing off of the internet" from the USAF to the universities in the 1990s.
My dear old mom used to tell me, two heads are better than one. I'm very pleased to hear Gabriel agrees!
Utterly brilliant
Gabriel PLEASE debate C. Derek Varn
13:16 whats worse is the clowns aren't even doing it on purpose. They are udung lossy compression for career advancement in academia, which mandates lossless compression, switching them from redundancy to priority in encoding. Then, it just becomes a self-serving reproductive strategy when the source fidelity falls to low from an accelerated coding rate.
Huh?
@@victorialeif9266 100% gibberish
_"falls to low"_
When does your next book cone out Gabriel?
I read the title as the ‘cannibal left’ and somehow to me, maybe on some Freudian level, can explain the current western left. We need to bring back the party apparatus. No more anarchism that just tears up any kind of good organization.
Anarchism so bourgeois … so Western!
Bourgeois academic "performers" don't have a special nose for sniffing out advancement. The system itself seeks out individuals that do not threaten the status quo, individuals who have achieved an expected level of competency without challenging power in any significant way. The system promotes gatekeepers to select for such individuals. One thing all these participants possess is a deep sense of insecurity. Their selection into the bourgeois socialization process allows them to mask their insecurities and inferiority. For this, they are deeply indebted to the system that has inflated their sense of merit and will continue to "perform" accordingly and predictably.
All well said!
Tenure explains most of it.
Not wanting to rock the boat until gaining tenure, a habit or two inculcated along the way to tenure may discourage the newly-tenured prof from ever getting bothered enough to rock the boat. Academics are just as susceptible to laziness and coasting as any other set of people - if not more so, as the professor can avoid the big bad world beyond the academy and _really_ dig in.
The Compatible Left does have a “use value” so to speak, which is to perform an authoritarian function and make an authoritarian contribution to the authoritarian establishment.
a first weak point is that many vs one, and that we do things together.
the truth is when "we" make a product for sale, including an intellectual product for sale, we do not make it together, not in a large sense, but we do it alone, in the sense of very few in together. we do it together only in a limited number team, and we do not include many others in together. and while your idea may fool some, it is false noblesse, the real noblesse, so to speak, is in the limiting the numbers of the contributors. even you need income, and we cannot make income in this world, spreading it to all. it is not a gift that does not end giving. while some may still support the idea that the gift continues giving, awareness says it sounds like a pyramidal scheme.
awareness brings back to us the fact that limiting the number of the contributors, recognized, official contributors, is the very idea of efficiency.
personally, i was victim of "we do things together", when i was the author, and another got the pay, including the title of author. such experience is enough, to make a person reject the idea of collective property.
not that i would be anti-socialist. am in fact the truest socialist that is, but am for the socialism that pays.
not that capitalism pays. capitalism does not pay. yet capitalism uses socialist arguments, in order to not pay.
I like very much your attitude toward Zizek. well, he is an evident charlatan. you are not so.
Awesome the segment about Orwell! And completely true.
The replacing of the true socialism, superb!
Money is how we get each other to do stuff, before Money it was God and before that the father of the house.
We don't necessarily need more Money it is that "getting people to be good for each other and themselves".
For example if farmers over produce Tomatoes they destroy a portion of the Tomatoes so that the price will not go down, is that people being good to people?
I agree to draw lines around a product is ridiculous if one considers what leads to any given product, many more lives go into any product than we give credit to.
"Screw the 9,999 Tour de France cyclist who didn't come first"
This is an old speech, isn't it?
Yeah it's a compilation of bits on this topic. Gabe gets around quite a bit, though, so there were some I had never seen.
So the point of this guy is that those philosophers (so various and even sometimes contradictory) are spreading pessimism and are not giving alternatives?
Isn't Parenti contrarevolutionary?
random thoughts:
- Cult of Personality is the key feature why "people's revolution' tends towards dictatorship far more often than not. Marxism-Leninism is the swindler's favorite game, after all.
- Capitalism is not a system, it's how a specified relationship between a government and an individual's 'stuff' (and how to "keep" it) is defined legally. Nothing more, nothing less.
- CORPORATISM or 'Fascism Beyond Borders' is what we wrestle with on the daily, and is much more pertinent.
- Confucius's _"Signs and symbols rule men, not words and laws"_ ... and some through The Three Bs: bloodlines, bastardy and buggery.

I disagree about zizek ; I didn't get somehow misguided or lost or confused about activism from reading him! I'm very familiar with postmodernism, and I like it... and I love applying things like lacanian thought to film. Yes, there are I'm sure, people who , " watch a socially concious media bite " ...and then congratulate themselves and then figure that's enough for their life of being involved in any way in politics, but I see this as a weak argument because, most people who are both into political action and theory, and who are also into the arts and postmodernism... are not going to be in any way, "sidelined" by reading zizek. I mean, I'm sorry but this is almost laughable. Otherwise, I appreciate your critiques.. the cultural industry, etc. But this is silly. You think that a potential activist for the socialist cause got confused and co-opted by reading zizek... hehe. A lot of his books are expressly non academic... they're not supposed to be.
