    Very interesting that VW & Audi despite sharing the MEB platform uses very different charging curve profiles. In North America a lot of people just get the ID.4 for the lower price but I went for the Q4 e-tron mostly due to its nicer interior and design. Very happy with my decision.

    About Battery charging speed affecting battery degradation, according to Kyle's last info on the refreshed 2025 Porsche Tycan with its rocket like charging speed of over 330KW for considerably longer than Lucid's, the engineers removed the old preserve battery charge rate option (reduces max charge rate) as they found no difference in battery degradation with or with use of that battery preservation feature! Maybe Audi is also from the same school of thought resulting in this improved charging performance!

      Well I wonder why Tesla doesn't update the C ratings on higher charge state? I mean we dont 100% know how the impact is on age + high C ratings. There are Tesla with 200.000km and 8 years with only 15% degredation. Wonder how the taycan degredation will be with the same stats.

    2:16 I don’t understand: after 17 minutes of charging, Q4 charged 41,4 kWh and Polestar 2 charged 43,3 kWh. However, Q4 has 60% SOC and P2 only 59%. How is this possible? The only reason I find is because Q4 has a 77 kWh of useable battery and P2 has 79 kWh… right?

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  8 місяців тому +2

      No, these are not "charged" kWh. It's how many kWh was delivered from the charger. How many kWh that goes into the battery is a different story after charging losses, battery heating and cooling.

This is valid for the first gen MEB 77 kwh batteries, I didnt look up if the "4.0+ MEBS" gets the same sells from LG or that SKI is also involved in different batteries in europe. cooling requirements. so that ionity screen is not always what the car takes. what you see on the 2 below screen is what the car takes, the charger screens are what the car is requesting in TOTAL. so it can be 75kw for the battery and 5kw for battery cooling. with obdscanner apps you would see 75 what the battery takes but chargerscreen will say 80 kw.

    Hey @bjornnyland, have you heard anything about future software updates to the MEB cars from 2021-2023? There have been no updates since early last year, and there have been some unclear messages on whether there will be more support. Would appreciate it if someone that has some connections in the industry tried asking VW Group some difficult questions.

    • @erazer2602
      @erazer2602 8 місяців тому +3

      Hey, for VW I can say: if you're on ID software < 3.1, go to the workshop to get 3.2.
      If you already have 3.1 or 3.2 you'll get OTA 3.2.1 in the next few weeks, if everything goes to plan. This update is meant to prepare for the coming 3.7 update, that's being finalized right now according to VW.
      Those updates don't come with major new features, but mainly bring bug fixes and performance improvements.
      Whether there'll be more updates or even new features for MEB cars with the old hardware (factory software < 4.0) is unknown at this point.
      Those cars will definitely not get ID software >= 4.0 since it requires the new hardware.

    • @jacobsmedegaard5426
      @jacobsmedegaard5426 8 місяців тому

      I don't understand why people expect to get software updates, because if the car is working and it doesn't have the hardware for new features, why should they update your car, I mean there's no reason for that, I have the Cupra born, and all the features that it had, when I bought it works, and I have no problems with the car, so I can not see why they should update it, because there's no reason, only if they can make it more efficient or what ever, then it will make sense, but as I understand it, they can't, so why do you want the updates, I guess you bought the car that you wanted and with the equipment that you wanted right? 🙂

    • @erazer2602
      @erazer2602 8 місяців тому

      @@jacobsmedegaard5426 yeah, I kinda agree with you on that. I'm on software 3.2 and for the most part I'm happy with it. But I still think there's room for improvement and I also get why people want updates, since VW advertised their ID cars with OTA capabilities.

    • @sebastiansandvik825
      @sebastiansandvik825 8 місяців тому

      @@jacobsmedegaard5426 To start with because it has hardware that supports new features but are locked in software. Using ODB you can get preheating working, although it isn't practical without official updates. Second, because I expect better support for my car than my phone, which was 0,5% of the price. Third, because anything connected to the internet should get data security updates for at least 5 years.

    • @jacobsmedegaard5426
      @jacobsmedegaard5426 8 місяців тому

      @@erazer2602 yes, the interface could be better, for example like in the new ID cars, did like there's a dedicated "button" for seat hearing and steering wheel hearing, but what I want the most from the new cars, is the preheating, the more powerful motor and the better ecu, but that's hardware, so there's not much to do about that, but what I mentioned with the software part, that is something they could do something about, but it's fine as it is, and I bought it like that, but sure, if they made it more user friendly, then I would be happy about it, but I don't count on it 🙂👍🏻

Hyundai uses 80/10/10 ~10% cobalt while Tesla uses on long range < 3% and standard range (LFP) 0%.
