- Propaganda was formed in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1982 by Ralf Dörper (a member of the German industrial band Die Krupps). As a trio,with artist Andreas Thein and vocalist Susanne Freytag, With the inclusion of classically trained musician and composer Michael Mertens and singer Claudia Brücken, music-journalist Paul Morley signed the band to Trevor Horn's newly-formed ZTT Records label.
The first week of July 1985 finally saw the release of the band's debut album, A Secret Wish. Receiving considerable critical acclaim and some commercial success, it reached number 16 on the UK Album Chart.
The group spent the rest of the year on their "Outside World" tour, taking in Europe and America. They were joined once again by Derek Forbes on bass, his fellow ex-Simple Minds cohort Brian McGee on drums, and Kevin Armstrong on guitar.

35 years later - I`m listening to the album again and always anticipate "Murder Of Love" such a beautiful song and my favorite on the album ( next to machinery) .
Progrock innovations into Neue Deutsche Welle was so ahead of its time. Propaganda grasped a synthesis of sound and aesthetics that bands today still have yet to recognize.
Claudia is an absolute goddess. Propaganda was decades ahead of their time.
I love Claudia's dancing at 03:07 in the background while the guitarist plays his solo. I love the young Claudia very much.

Not strictly true... Horn only produced 'Dr Mabuse' on their debut album. Steve Lipson produced the rest of it. Horn was generally 'executive producer' of the project.
Horn produced one song for them.
S.J. Lipson, Horn's protégé produced it, but in Horn's studio (SARM) on Horn's gear, (PPG with waveterm), and Trev's outboard kit, so I know what you mean, "it has that 80's ZTT zumb tumb thang" to it. LOL! Brilliant stuff.
