My tank is over 20 years old and still working fine. I'll be installing a larger tank, just because I've outgrown the existing size. Best presentation I've seen yet about the tanks. Thanks!
Great video presentation, my system is about 10 years old, and thanks to your troubleshooting steps I now have to replace the tank due to a ruptured membrane.
Very interesting! The RO system in my house is 18 years old now and seems to be working just fine. That said, one of these days something could just go wrong and understanding how it all works is very helpful. Thanks!
Very clear explanation. This was the best method for keeping purified water but still rubber and petrolium-based material inside. We corrected this mistake then invented glass tank for reverse osmosis systems. From now on it is better use miato glass tank
Something to think about. The bladder inside the tank is invisible to you. I mean you cannot monitor it for deterioration. When the bladder fails it is because it is compromised in some way. It could failo with a clean split ...OR, it could rot away.. To cut to the quik. I replaced a tank for a friend and proceeded to drill a whole in the bottom of the tank I removed ( after releasing most of the pressure) to see what the water would look like. coming out .. (BTW..It was obvious the tank bladder was bad because in trying to pressurize the tank (add air ) water came out of the air valve.) So... the water came out nearly jet black through the whole I drilled in the bottom. (Backing up a little: When I turned the tap ( with the original tank still installed ) the water did run clear, at least it seemed clear. But the truth was there was this junk lying ( hiding) on the bottom.) . I could not believe my eyes. So to me I learned two things. 1. Get a TDS meter and check the water at least monthly. micro pieces of rubber could have been coming out of that tap. 2. Replace the tank every five years, They are not that expensive and you should have seen what came out of a ten year old failed tank. I no longer trust the bladder material's integrity; who made it, what it 's REALLY made of , and where it really came from etc.???..
Great video. LUV this review! The guy who installed mine said that it takes 5 gals of water to make 1 gal of RO water; however, after the initial startup, I never hear or see any waste water drain through the drain tube. Is something wrong?
I still have water in the tank after emptying out at the top. I'm guessing the bladder has a hole in it? Needs replaced? I needed to watch the whole video. Thanks for your info. Much appreciated. God bless you throughout 2022. 🙏
At this point, I'm probably just echoing what others have rightly assessed: Very good video, and thorough information. Definitely someone who loves the job, and is glad to teach. I don't like logging in. I rarely do. But when I do, it's definitely worth the commenting.
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anyone know of a way to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost my login password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me.
u r an excellent technical trainer. Thank you so much for explaining how the diaphragm shut off works for stopping the fill system. That gave me the clue that I could quick and dirty turn on the faucet, run out all the water by pumping air up to about 65 pounds which would also shut off the fill side, wait for all the water to be pumped out by adding a little extra air as needed, and then quickly back down the air pressure to about 9 pounds. Which is what I did. Why 9? Because I assumed that by the time I could get the air pressure regulated to 7 there was going to be water back in the tank that was increasing the air pressure to 9. System works like brand new. And with whatever caused the leak down, and maybe 2 pounds of extra pressure if I did indeed get ahead of the fill, the tank may go to an extra year past the 5 years it took to leak down the first time. Here is a thought for you. When I started checking the system I had a full tank of water and only about 20 pounds of air pressure, and I could only get about 16 ounces of water out of the faucet. If the gas theory is linear, constant, I dont know what to call it,,, I played sports,,, I am thinking that I could have pressurized the tank as I found it to about 70 to 72 pounds, and everything would have been just fine, and when the tank was empty of water the tank would have indicted about 7 to 9 pounds of air pressure. And then all that arduous extra work of turning off the water at a cheaply made valve that was/is probably galled up with 5 years of scale and corrosion along with compressed packing that has probably taken a set and will start leaking when the water is turned back on, breaking couplings, pumping out the water, pumping the tank to exactly 7 pounds, re-taping the threads, hoping for no leaks,,, all that stuff could have been avoided. What think you?
Great video and well done so we can fully understand. However did you mean keep pumping until you get all the water out of the tank? Because you said keep pumping until all the air is out.
9:08 As a diy enthusiast my gut reaction is don't tell me what I can't fix, then when my mind immediately pictured the RO tank and cut into it I had to check myself.
Is it a good idea to draw all the water off of the tank occasionally to make sure there's no standing water in the tank not being drawn off during normal use.
Thank you for the information. Oh boy did I learn a few things on my first whole-home filtration system (e.g. Aquasana). Pressure loss so bad that my family had to MANUALLY bypass our salt-less softener and filtration wherever we showered or washed clothes/dishes!! When we wanted drinking water we MANUALLY went off bypass. Shoot me! I want an Ecowater premium system, with water-softener that uses salt and a RO cartriidge that creates alkaline drinking water. I want to avoid the pressure issues you mentioned. Would you recommend (2) 2-gallon RO tanks in tandem or a single 5-gallon tank as the best solution?
How do you hook up and run tandem tanks? Can I install tandem tanks of different capacity, for instance a 5 gallon I currently have and the blue the gallon in your presentation.
This may be a dumb question but if the filtration of the water is what we're looking to achieve in a off grid situation. Why couldn't one add a booster pump from a water tank pump that through the filters and into storage tanks Then have a booster pump from storage tanks to plumbing?
My faucet keeps leaking out of pressure release on the faucet. I seen a video where I left out the restrictor in the line ?? What can I use ? Because it was thrown out with the box ! I think ?
I have a tank that doesn't appear to have a valve. I turned it around to see if I could see a valve. Is it possible that my tank's valve is located at the bottom of the tank or is there another possible reason that the tank doesn't have a valve on the side?
I have a 12 LT tank that is disconnected from the reverse osmosis tubes as I wanted to clean the system. When I pump air from the bottom is escaping from the top opening. Does it mean the tank must be replaced as the bladder could be broken or it is normal? Thanks.
@Jeremy Mettler Hi Jeremy. I brought the tank to be checked and needed to be replaced. Bought a new one and plugged it in. Problem solved but yeah... It was pretty expensive.
Ther is no parallel or series. It is one outlet in and out. Just put a tee between you faucet and existing tank then put your second tank off that tee.
Hi John, Great video, thanks. Have an RO system, and checked the incoming pressure into the membrane which is 48psi, since I have an automatic shut-off valve at the tank I have only 60% as it should, my question would be what you suggest to increase the water capacity and pressure. Should I add a booster pump or a demand pump? Thanks in advance
hi man just question why when I use 2 class water my drain line doesn't stop about 40 mint do you think it's low air in tank because my shutoff valve it's working because soon I close the tank the drain stop so I'm thinking it's the low air in tank so any tips for that thanks
John, thank you for the video. Very helpful. I do have a question for you. My dad gave us a used "Amtrol" filter system. The manual I found online is not exactly like ours. Our tank has two hoses connect to it but the manual we found only has one hose connected to it. Do you have a manual or installation instructions for our unit: Watts Premier RIL 10 by Amtrol. If you can help us to get this one installed, that will be wonderful. Thank you.
hi you explained about tank been full and heavy but what about if you are not filling up the tank and its light or it fills like a cup or 2 of water and the pressure is 8 to 10 psi?
when I fill a 1 gallon pitcher with my RO water, I thought the system was supposed to start making new water to replace the gallon I removed at the RO faucet. My new system from Costco is not doing that, instead, I have to take out about 2 gallons of water before it will start making water to replace what I removed from the tank. Is this normal for a RO system? My old Kenmore system always made fresh water after I took water out of the system but my new system from Costco is not until I take out about 2 gallons. So, I can take out 1 gallon today, it will not reproduce that gallon. Three days go by and I want more water, there's only a gallon left in the tank so once I take that gallon, it will make more and refill the tank. If I want two gallons on day three, I'll have to wait couple of hours for it to make more water. This doesn't seem like its working correctly.
I suspect that you have a slight leak in the internal bladder inside the tank. You should probably replace the tank. I've had an RO system for 10 years.
So mine is full of water but when I pump it, no more water comes out so I must have a bad bladder? I can’t seem to pressurize it now. It is probably 10 years old.
I understand how the water gets pushed out. But how do i get water into the tank, and then back out through a different tube? So in from a reservoir via a pump then out to mist nozzles. do i need a separate connector?
Hi I re pressurized my tank to 6psi but now after two hours the tank is no filling up. I was hoping you can help with trouble shooting my osmosis system. I can hear the water stops flowing through the system.
I test the exact way shows in some video I don't have drain issue I will try explain more my osmosis system one year old but I still replaced all five filters last week and I replaced the Tank itself again because I watched a video I thought Tank was bad Tank Air pressure without water is 7.5 psi with Full water 14 psi but in video mentioned full water tank should be 35 to 40 psi , my problem is when I open the drinking water Faucet the water flow not strong just slow even though tank is full water I wish I could download the video here so you can see how is the water flow my old Osmosis 4 stage filer water flow from faucet was very strong
Need a video as good as this one about sanitizing the tank. He spoke about it but didn't elaborate.

This was fantastic. I'm shopping for RO systems, and I feel more prepared now.
Thanks for the description of the tank in the RO system and tank pressure.
Appreciate the video. Realized I had my PSI too high and was only getting a small amount of storage. Your video explained why! Thanks again!
