*I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*

Just discovered this channel through my recommendations. I don't have an Apple TV but this was very lovely to watch as an AV nerd. Great video!!

This is one of the very few videos which explains how to use HomePods as TV speakers. This video helped me setup my system last year and it’s been working great ever since.
I wish Apple brings back the OG HomePods again with updates.

So Apple decided to upgrade the reasons for choosing the original HomePod by promising lossless Audio in a future firmware upgrade and. The possibility to Use it as a tv speaker via the new App,e tv after having gone discontinued it go figure. But I am glad that I bought my pairs of HomePods before they were discontinued

I love my paired homepods. They compete with my atmos system on a lot of levels. 🍻

Let me see if I got this straight. My setup is really simple:
    -LG 4K TV with ARC.
-Apple TV 4K (with new fancy remote) - It's connected to the TV via HDMI into a non-ARC port atm.
-A stereo pair HomePods (2nd gen.).
    Question #1:
Do I still get Dolby Atmos on the HomePods even though the TV only has an ARC port? The sound should go directly from the Apple TV to the HomePods, right? Meaning it doesn't matter if the TV only has ARC.
    Question #2:
As long as this continues to be my setup with no console or anything added, does it matter if the Apple TV is connected into a non-ARC port?

I’m nervous to try this out considering several users in 14.6, specifically HomePods running 14.6 audioOS or HomePodOS connected in stereo pair, and/or connected to an Apple TV as default audio output are bricking. The devices are overheating and/or the firmware is bricking the chips which are not serviceable given there is no service port at all in the 2018 HomePods. This is also happening to people who installed the OS 15 beta, but not just to them to those with 14.6 as well. I’ve had a space Gray HomePod since release day. I just got the Apple TV 4K 2021 and learned about eARC/ARC support so decided to get a second used 2018 HomePod (white) for a stereo pair. I updated it from 14.4 to 14.6, but now I’m nervous to even use them because both are out of warranty and if they brick my understanding is I’m out on my own to find replacements for them. So now I’m leaving them unplugged during the day. I would be interested in a video form you on this topic. May not be your type of thing but I am on Reddit on r/HomePod and it seems many people have been scrambling to buy one or two 2018 HomePods after Apple added support for all of these home theater options, and especially with ARC/eARC support. I’ve been a fan of the 2018 HomePod since day one. Never quite lived up to all of hope for a smart assistant simply because of Siri’s limitations, but the audio quality has always been incredible. Below is a link to a MacRumors article that summarizes some of these issues. Anyways. Like your videos man. Keep them up!

Thank you for the feedback! I’ve also seen all the issues people have had, I’ve been lucky so far I guess. I’ll have to look into it a little more.

I have stereo HomePods and a Sonos arc and was contemplating getting rid of the arc for the HomePods in a minimal setup but this has me second guessing

Had the same issue. But now changed the default to my TV speakers instead of HomePods.

My tv is eARC but, still can’t get Dolby Atmos if I select it as a default only as a temporary. Sony XH90 anyone has the same problem?😮

Does this work with temporary audio outputs too?

When I watch tv using my cable box through HomePods via the Apple TV, the audio is out of sync with the video. Any suggestions?

    • @regularnerd
      @regularnerd  Рік тому

There is an audio sync utility you can run in settings. That’s really the only option

I’ve got an LGtv with Arc enabled, hdmi plugged into that, a new HomePod, AppleTv 4K second edition; and I still don’t have the option of Arc in the appletv audio out. What am I missing ?

Do you have the HomePod set as default output? If yes, maybe a restart of the Apple TV?

Does anyone know if there’s a receiver or hdmi switch that would allow you to use this with a tv that doesn’t support arc/earc?

I opted not to buy the sync box because it would have limited me this capability.
