- FLORIDA TOWN HAS A HISTORY OF SMUGGLING MASSIVE AMOUNTS!
This small fishing village has a criminal record. However, today I strongly recommend a visit for fishing trips into the best regions of Florida for this sport. Awesome Island Vibes, hard working people! Incredible history!!!
Just thought- in EC back in early 1900's there was a guy named ed watson. He killed belle star in oklahoma and fled to Fort Myers in 1900, then EC where he proceeded to lose his mind, built a whiskey still, then killed everyone who pissed him off. There is a book named "Killing Mr Watson" about this, written by Peter Mathiessen, who won a pulitzer for another book, at the time it was a big deal down here. His camp and still are a historic site and marked if you know anyone that has a boat and can blow a day in the ten thousand islands. The book has the storter and brown families in it as well the old timers that first came down here. Not a lot of old time history in SW Fla, but EC does more than its part.
Watson's camp is still a place you can visit, very remote.

you should google "totch brown" and go to the next mullet festival at goodland and interview the old timers. I was a teen early 20's in the 80's. They used to sell t-shirts that said "I survived operation Everglades"(the DEA name for the sting) with a stick figure cop with a baton chasing a barefoot stick figure with torn jeans. Everglades city used to be nearly all trailers with new lincoln continentals in the driveway and satellite dishes inn the yard lol. DEA estimated 60% of EC was smuggling in 1982. Totch Brown was the fisherman that said fuck it lets go to columbia.

Lot of people got rich around the Everglades during the70.. late 80s drug trafficking ...beautiful scenery loved it the nature is just beautiful thanks for the history 📽️🎣🌴🚐👍📽️🌴🐊🎣

The drug trafficking history of the area is a sad example of what happens when the US government gets involved and destroys people's livelihood.
So much space, the houses are perfect Florida. I once lived on Sanibel Island, check it out.

Danielle Dewitt if you fish and are a tuff person you will never starve there. If you need a publix half a mile away you will fare badly. This is a tuff place with tuff people. A recent list named it worst place to live in florida. (Briggs)
FLORIDA HOOD VLOGS I just find that unreal because in the video when you were driving around it seems like a nice small town, with some nice houses, and a nice church. That’s crazy that it’s unsafe but I have no idea because I’ve never lived there.
