      But, if you say it in less words and they are too complex for your audience then it really doesn't matter. If you are writing a children's book and you use communication that only a PhD could comprehend then it's ineffective. I heard more recently that newspapers often write to the level of a 6th grader so that they can maximize sales - kinda makes you wonder about what is going on in all of those minds that read comments. Your mentor was correct, and I agree with you that it's mad to try and adapt words and thoughts. It's a little like being on a merry-go-round; eventually one has to exit the ride before they throw-up.

    @derekboyt3383 4 роки тому

    Well, that's one way to do it. JP definitely has a strong thinking and compartmentalized personality and as such his method of writing reflects that. There is definitely a difference between writing from the head and the heart and the methods used to achieve each. Regardless, some editing and correction will always occur because a first draft is always flawed both internally and externally. I believe the big difference is that technical writing requires a stricter and more regimented approach whereas emotional writing needs to flow and requires less correction. If the document is analytical then a single word or phrase can miscommunicate a very important concept or idea. If the document is about emotion (poetry, short story, novel) then a high level of editing and correction can actually take away from the original feelings that were experienced when the ideas were conceived. It would be interesting to read something that came from Jordan the person rather than him as a psychologist / professor.

    It's a wonder he's finished any book! I write in a similar manner, but I write a library (digital templates) of about 7,000 comments that home inspectors use to create reports. I concentrate on getting the damn thing done in a form acceptable (to me) to sell. Then, I go back through about every three years, and refine the comments. If I wrote the first time through like this, I'd starve!
    I write courses too. I save reference material in folders on my hard drive, bookmarks (links) on my browser, books in my bookcase, on CDs and DVDs, a variety of printed material in plastic tubs, and in my head. Stopping in the middle of a major writing project (which can be months, sometimes years) is a disaster! It can take multiple weeks to come close to remembering where things are, what I've written, and the way I had the project organized in my head. Sometimes, its just gone and I have to redesign the entire project in my head, trying to make what I've already got written fit.
    And as Dr. Peterson says... if I make a mistake, write something incorrect, I eventually hear about it. If I really screw up, someone using my work can get sued. That hasn't happened because I'm very careful.

    Thank effing God I don't have anyone else here when I'm writing. Even though it's not psychological writing, and typically it's personal transformation stories written with a dramatic narrative, it would still be unacceptable to be interrupted by "honey, can you take out the trash?"

    if every writer had this attitude towards writing there would be no masterpieces.
    It would take Goethe 2 lifespans until he even starts writing Faust according to his catalogue of works.

    JP also has to write with this level of precision because both his fans and his detractors will pick apart every sentence in a book. He needs to make 100% sure his meaning is not misunderstood or maliciously used against him.

    • @christophersurnname9967

      I watched the whole video but did he really say each sentence 50 times? Pretty sure he meant that figuratively. I recall several times, like 3-5 times. That’s what it says in his writing guide he was referring to.

      Jonathan Crews hmm, still think he means it figuratively lol, I’m sure it is probably true for some of the stuff in maps of meaning though... that book is complicated as balls. High quality though. Still not through it though, nowhere near actually.

    • @jonathancrews2866

      Christopher Surnname I hope he meant it figuratively, or no wonder our kind Professor Peterson struggles with anxiety - and has provided consultancy to the United Nations on Depression, OCD, and Anxiety.
