@Cayson Fletcher glad I could help xD
I have an ‘08 Tundra V8 -4.7L . It drives backwards when I put it in drive.Does this mean the auto transmission is gone ? Will replacing the clutch resolve the issue ?
That’s the best Tundra transmission fluid change that I’ve seen. Simply demonstrated and spoken clearly. Than you!
Glad you like it, that video was a lot of work. Thank you for the nice comment
@@DIYJIM I have a 2012 Tundra and have been using a hand pump. Knucklehead, right. I’m on Amazon now buying that pump. Thanks again
It did work good did you use the link I put in my video if so thanks it helps support my channel
@@DIYJIM can you show us for a Tundra 2005 please?
@@ninalucas8703 sorry only have enough money for one truck
One of the most detailed diy video i've seen. Thank you for not leaving anything out. Will use this video on my 4.7 in the future. Thanks.
Glad you like it, I had to do a lot or research to make this video because most of the videos are not that good
Now I see why if this job is done correctly by either a Toyota service shop or your trusted local mechanic the cost will run upwards from a couple hundred dollars to over three hundred, the latter is what the dealer will charge in my town here in Arizona.
I was hoping to see what the dipstick reading was at until I realized your model year likely doesn't have a dipstick. My 2003 4.7L Tundra does have the stick.
Overall a very in depth well published DIY video.
Cheers Mate!
Thanks you are correct
Thank you so much, I was at Toyota today getting my oil changed and tires rotated on my 2008 Tundra ( Wife had a bunch of coupons, saved a lot of money), I asked them for the price Toyota wanted for changing the transmission fluid and to change the coolant, I am glad I had my cane with me, the prices floored me, I actually told them :”YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
I bought “Toyota Coolant” there, (should not have $31.00 a gallon) and will flush tonight AND thanks to your video, I will change my transmission fluid this weekend.
You have saved me a lot of money plus I can get more tools without the wife going nuts!!!!!!!! 😹
God bless y’all. 😀🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🌻🇺🇦
More tools is always good. Hope my video helps
Awesome video. Many thanks! Edit: I got as far as snapping three bolts on my trans fluid pan. Filled it back the 3.25 quarts I drained and called it a day for now. I want to caution anyone thinking of doing this and going hog wild trying to remove the pan - DO NOT DO IT!! You will find yourself in a world of pain. I talked to a few shops today and the consensus is there is absolutely no reason to ever pull the pan or change the screen inside.
Other than that, really appreciate the video.
Welcome Ben, thanks for leaving a comment and watching my video.
@@DIYJIM Another question: is there no risk idling the truck and cycling through the gears with either too little or too much ATF? I think I'm going to try the gravity feed method rather than buying a pump. BTW, the link to your pump is broken - perhaps that one is no longer available. Thanks again.
@@benschmolze1266 sorry I do not want to tell you something wrong. But I would guess there is always a risk of idling to long if you have to little or too much ATF. You can look for a different pump on Amazon. I’ll have to see if I can fix my link. Thanks for watching and letting me know my link is not working.
I would try and spray all the bolts with some Kroil penetrating oil and let those soak a bit especially if you have high mileage or live in a rust prone environment and not use a impact until you can loosen them with a socket and ratchet. Also he shows in the video that he put an extra quart in to probably help with the peace of mind of not running it low, but in reality with the truck just running in short intervals while draining a few quarts out a few at a time which like he showed by adding one in the beginning wouldn't hurt. Transmission gears aren't going to be going Ludacris speed at idle so no worries.
My new Go To Share for the News!
Thanks for the clean presentation.
Your one of the only others I saw that also warmed up the New WS. I did it on my 2006 A750Fthinking about expansion of hot fluids, it worked out perfectly. Owned since new, never touched until 2020 @ 97.5K so I knew levels were spec.
Doing one more Double D&F at 110-120K, two more D&Fs, then Filter Change/Full Exchange at 250K.
I only did the Gallon&1/2 double D&F originally, but you made doing the flush look easy!

Great job! Better than any shop ...giving you the shaft for 4 qts. Ashamed they do that. You done it the way it should be done!
Thanks 👍 and thanks for watching
What an incredibly helpful video, thank you sir. I have the same year and same engine. Thanks for taking the time to record this and lay it out so clearly.
Welcome
Very informative and easy to understand. Thank you for sharing this valuable information. I do own a 2007 tundra 4.7L, extended cab. They have been telling me at toyota for years the oil is there for the life of the transmission, but I did have my mechanic change it 4 years ago. Now thanks to you I can do my own. Greatly appreciated this video brother...GB!
Glad I could help thanks for watching
Outstanding video! Clear, concise, and well filmed.
Thanks for watching Jim
This is the best video I’ve seen on this. Clear and detailed. Excellent job!
Thanks
I Have 2007 Toyota tundra with 160K.. shifting out of low speed to higher speeds had some issues. Had dealer flush transmission fluid ( they did not recommend it) after i agreed not to hold them liable , they flushed out old and put in new. Problems solved. I have not found any shops in my area that would perform the change like this video shows.
That’s why I made a video and did it myself. The toyota dealer also would not do it like I did. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the video. I have a 2007 tundra 4.7 v8. Same as yours. The truck has alot of miles, 180,000. I have no idea of when if ever the transmission fluid has been changed. The transmission makes a clunk when shifting to overdrive. I checked all the other known causes, engine & transmission mounts and drive shaft. All that was good but when I checked fluid it was very low. I took off pan and put new filter and replaced just the 4 quarts like dealer will do. My question is it a bad idea to dump all the fluid out of transmission with alot of miles ? I keep hearing not to do it or could have slipping problems. I'm in the middle of just changing filter and the 4 quarts but now thinking maybe should do your flush. The fluid looks black as motor oil. Didn't see much metal or any signs of damage in pan. Sorry for the book I wrote you! 😅
Sorry I really can not give you a good answer. I was seeing the same thing you were seeing. I have not had any troubles since I have done it.
@@DIYJIM Thanks for taking time to answer! Hopefully I'll get this straight.
Best tundra transmission video I seen on UA-cam thanks.
Thank you I did a lot of research to make this video better than the others
What a great tutorial
Detailed, easy to understand...all I need for next weekend
Cheers from Costa Rica
Awesome thanks for watching, glad I could help
I would recommend using gold standard fluid that Toyota uses for these trucks. Great video btw
Thanks for watching
Just found this Jim!
Great job as always. Should do this complete job on my 06 DC 4X4 eventually. Did a double D&F at ~85K but didn't block open my bypass/drop pan.
At 102K now so will Double D&F once more by 125K as well as another Difs/Transfer Case refill.
Think will do complete job at 175K.
Thanks again for sharing super info.
Thanks for watching my friend
Good job!
Why on earth they did away with the dip stick I'll never understand.
Very good question, I think they want us to take our trucks to the Toyota garage. There are lots of cars and trucks like this now, stupid
Just make sure if they are just draining a few quarts and putting a few back in or are they changing all 11 quarts
because most people won't climb under the truck to fill it or have a extractor pump. SO... they will take it in to the shop and Toyota makes more money
I thank you very much for your perfect demonstration, l have learned this very well to do it on my Toyota Tundra , God bless you very much you and your family , one more time well demonstration l save this video for my Tundra , Tank you very much my brother
Glad I could help thanks for watching
Great video! Very easy to understand. Out of all the many forums and opinions none ever mentioned pulling the pan and changing the filter. I been doing my own maint for years and had vehicles go over 300,000 with regular maintenance including tranny services.this is essentially no different then a good old Chevy pu, aside of the method of the level ck. I would have been uneasy had I done just a drain and fill, like it was incomplete. Thanks again for cutting through the many BS methods and opinions!
Thanks for watching glad you like the video
Well done, sir. Simple and straightforward. I feel I can do my own flush after watching your video.
Thank you very much, glad I could help.
Thanks for taking the time to create an extremely helpful video. I love your style!
You are so welcome!
after i look at your video transmission oil change i save alot money, thankyou so much your video
Glad I could help thanks for watching
Hey man good video, I have a question. When draining the excess new oil with the check plug, how did you know when to put the plug back in? I have an 4.7 06 tundra, probably some differences but I'm hoping its similar.
man you are the bomb been hunting for a video like yours for along time I'm lookin forward to doin this on my truck later thx you so very much!
Glad I could help
Best video on how to do this job, thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Great vid....noticed your truck was on ramps guess your truck does not have to be perfectly level to perform this change out
I tried to keep my truck level I had all four tires up off the ground plus it was a little easier to make the video that way. Thanks for watching
Awesome! Going to be performing this on my 2011 4.6L. pretty identical to this one thanks
Glad I could help
Great video. I've got to change my transmission fluid now. You made it look so simple. Appreciate ya. Thanks.
Glad I could help thanks for watching

Looks like you did a great job, I'm going to try myself. Thanks.
thanks, hope it helps ya
Don Smith is a great asset, I buy my Amsoil through him and if I have any questions he emails me back same day.
He is a good guy, He helped me make sure I did everything correct in this video
Excellent instructional video. I'll use it to service my 07 Tundra's transmission. Thanks
Your welcome thanks for watching
I never changed the transmission fluids at the required intervals (well according to Toyota it never needs changing) and now have 104k miles on the Sequoia so I am afraid to remove and replace all the fluids because of potential problems so I am just doing the drain and fill method at this point. I removed and replaced 4-1/4 quarts which is a 1/3 of the total capacity. I will do this at regular intervals from now on.
How many miles was on the truck when you did this the fluid replacement and was this the 1st time the transmission was ever exchanged and/or changed?
I think I had around 100K on the truck when I change the transmission fluid for the first time.
@@DIYJIM Cool.
Excellent video, gonna attempt this next weekend. Very well informative and helpful. Thank you.
Glad you like, thanks for watching
Great DIY video on changing transmission fluid. Does this also apply to a 2006 tundra 4.7? My Toyota dealer is charging $360 to flush and change only the transmission fluid.
It should be close to the same
Very informative for D Y S tundra owners!
thanks for watching
Have you noticed any difference using amsoil instead pf ws? Im interested in doing so but never used amsoil before
I could not notice a difference. Thanks for watching
Thanks for vid. Question. You said that eventually the truck will start to suck air when you remove the return line and leave it on for too long. If it sucks air for a few seconds is that okay? It won't damage anything? Thanks again
Just stop when it starts sucking air it will be okay. Thanks for watching
Very good, best video out there on tundra trans fluid change!

Thanks for posting! I was just going to do a drain and fill, looks like I better grab a filter and more fluid.

Thanks. So helpful.May God bless you.
Thank you very much, I thank God many times a week. I am glad these videos help others out.
Great video. I have the exact same truck down to the color and the newer Toyota wheels even. How has the Amsoil been doing in the transmission compared to the WS? Can you feel any difference? Thanks.
I really can not tell a difference. Did you see the links to some of the stuff i used? The pump really helped. Glad you like the video
How many miles was on your truck when you did your truck? Thanks for sharing your videos
About 100000 miles hope it is good to go for another 100K
Great Job, Only Limited By ones Imagination! Thanks-

Great video my own car Toyota Tundra 4.7 4x4 I am looking for a new transmission and in good condition can you help me
Sorry not sure maybe ask some of the small garages around where you live.
Good job soldier, Salute 🫡
Hooah thank you and thanks for watching
I am curious about the timing of you filling in and you draining out. You drained first from drain pan amount of oil 4 quarts and then you filled 5quarts. I got this point, but you still drained it from the hose line to complete flash out the dirty oil ,but you did not specified how many quarts you drained out from there. You show that you have 11 quarts in the bucket. It means ,you just drained out in the hose linethe 5quarts that you put it in after the first drained out.
When I drained from the hose I measured it and put in about the same as I drained. Then at the end I checked the level. Hope this helps
Completely the best video on the net on changing the transmission fluid precise to the point every step done with just the right pace and talked in laymen terms so a nybody watching can do it thanks and again excellent video
Welcome thanks for watching
@DIY JIM thank you I bought my 2008 double cab last year love the truck but when it comes to maintenance not so good.everything seems like a big secret or cost to much to get it done I'm a diy kind of guy I will tackle just about any job but do my home work first with toyota you really have to navigate quite a few areas I found in the maintenence arena to be comfortable on doing just that maintenance. I think they really try and keep it in the house so to speak for highly trained toyota technicians. Was glad you put your video out that you did to save a little money on something that might be needed down. The line I'm retired military so try and save anything way I can thanks again for video it truly was a great class with which you didn't leave in my opinion nothing out including safety and tips to help make the job easier or better and recommended your video to a couple friends .one I helped and one wanted to do it by himself both said the same and said they will do the same as far as recommendation and a like
Awesome thanks for recommending my video to others. I’m also retired military half was Army national guard. Thanks again
@DIY JIM you bet I kind of figured buy didn't want to come right out with it the class was to good not to be .take care God bless

hey i have the same tundra and it has over 260,000 miles a lot of people i’ve ask tell me not to change the transmission oil because it’s gonna slip since it’s been a long time since they change the oil idk wht i should do
i’ve had it slip once or a couple of times only thts wht has me worried the oil it’s black when i change the drive shaft i saw some of the oil
I changed my transmission oil around 100000. Now I have 126000 and I have not had any problems.
Great job nice step by step video 👍🏻

Your welcome thanks for watching
Good video, super informative. AMSOIL is great fluid!
Thank you very much
Over the years of working on motorcycles and clutch covers its not a bad idea when dealing with a pan/cover that has a lot of bolts to just grab a piece of cardboard and draw a outline of in this case the transmission pan and filter and punch out holes with a screwdriver and place the bolts in those holes. That way if you do have a longer bolt you wont be searching the internet and panicking. Plus its never a bad idea to put bolts back in the same threaded hole they came out of.
Good idea thanks for tip. Thanks for watching
Very good information
Thanks a million

You were brave trying to remove the rusty bolts from the pan. I would have replaced them with new
Thanks for watching
Best diy ever!
Thanks I did a lot of research to make that video good
From what I've researched. Toyota runs its trany at 230 f. They use a special formulation oil that doesn't break down above 300. If I'm not mistaken, AMS oil isn't up to the Toyota spec....
You can look one there websight. Thanks for watching
Yes it is!
Wait so in total have many quarts did he take out to begin with.
I’m not sure I would have to watch my video again. Sorry I can’t remember
How many miles did you have on your truck when you change fluid
About 100000, thanks for watching
So, I didn't do a full flush. I just did a partial change at the pan. I had 4 quarts come out while the tranny was cold, so I put 4 quarts back in. I heated the pan to 120-125 and ended up having an entire quart drain back out at the level drain. Has me a little nervous, but I think that whoever did it previously put a little too much in.
Hope it will be okay thanks for watching
Awesome thank you 😊
