This man has such a brilliant mind... I just get something different from compared with a lot of players.... the ideas breath and paint pictures. What a class act
Hey there Mr. Alexander, my name is Justin and I am a punk rock guitar player. I happened upon this video and just wanted to say how I like how you played this video out! I’ve been trying to find help with a better picking technique, cuz mine SUX, big time! Anyways, I found it helpful that you slowed the video so I could see what you were doing. I haven’t been progressing in all the years I’ve been playing, mostly because I wasn’t taking it as seriously as I should have. Now that I am, it’s helped to see how other players techniques work for them. I hold my pick to tight I think and often drop it.. frustrating as hell! Anyway thank you for the lesson🙏
Cecil, finally someone else who picks like George Benson! Great playing by the way!
Great technique and great mastery of it, Cecil. I explored it a lot a few years ago....along with Benson, rock players like Schon and John Sykes do this, but I never could get accustomed to my fingers catching on the strings and making noise, especially at high gain. How Schon and Sykes do it is beyond me. I ended up going with something more "standard" like Gary Moore and DiMeola.
Man, that's a beautiful ax--- nice lesson too, thanks!
Fantastic.
Great video and verbal explanation is clear and concise. I've tired a little picking like George and it never worked but with you explanation and video, I have a much better idea of what I should be doing for that so it will be worth trying. Thank you! BTW, love your playing.
Bloody hell - awesome picking!
This is very helpful to hear! Thank you for sharing!
Hi
I really like your playing and sound
Too many people over intellectualize GB and loose the feel
I met George once and he plays by feel not brain
Is that a tele thin line you use I dig the sound
Thanks
Van
Awesome video!!
Clear & concise👍🎩👍
A good sound. What is the make and model of your guitar?
💪😎👍 Awesome lesson! Super technique
& amazing fluidity...liked & subbed. ☮️+💜
I also use reverse grip. I didn’t copy anyone. I just started that way. George Benson is one of my heroes, and I have to say I was thrilled to find out that he used reverse grip also.
Crossing the chasm to this approach - one thing I notice is that, since the palm is not on the bridge, much more fret-hand muting is required. Any thoughts on that, Cecil (or anyone else using this approach)?
Those were my thoughts as well. I like my palm resting on the bridge since it acts like a dampener when I’m playing across the higher strings. When I play on the lower three my fretting hand mostly takes care of the higher strings not vibrating
He also has a good lesson on picking for sale that I recommend
Very informative, what’s the weight of your pick?
great video - what's the scale that your using at 1:15?
Why does that pick angle produce such a fat, round, popping sound? I have tried the angle and absolutely love the sound, but I got a bit of pain in my forearm. I'm not suggesting that would happen with anyone else. I mostly play finger style.
Clean
What kind (brand, shape, thickness) of pick does Cecil use?
I do this but its my natural way due to being double jointed in the thumb. Its actually really frustrating. Great for certain techniques but a massive road block for others. Im trying to unlearn it but its hard after 20+ years
I noticed Sebastien Giniaux uses the reverse angle pick technique when I saw him at DIJ for the first time live up close- interesting…..
Giniaux is a cello player and approaches guitar with a lot of that influence.
How would you damp the strings if there was distortion with that picking angle?
Are talent ,îmi place ce ascult și ii doresc Succes 👍♥️🎶🎶🎸🎧🎤🎶🎶😘👋
Interesting
Anyone know what guitar that is?
Electric .....shows you guitar knowledge
